What does Instagram verification mean?
Instagram verification is the process of getting a blue checkmark badge that tells other users on the platform that an account really belongs to the user, artist, brand, or organization it represents.
You’ve probably seen plenty of verification badges around. As with Twitter, Facebook and, yes, Tinder, the little blue checkmarks are meant to indicate that the platform has confirmed the account in question is trustworthy, or at least they are who they say they are.
These badges are designed to make the real accounts stand out, so that Instagram users can be sure they’re following the right person or brand. They’re easy to spot in search results and on profiles, and they convey authority.

It’s easy to see why verification badges are also a coveted status symbol. They’re rare, and exclusivity lends a certain amount of prestige—which may or may not translate to better engagement.
That said, Instagram is clear that verified accounts (just like business accounts) don’t get special treatment from the Instagram algorithm. In other words: if it is true that verified accounts earn higher engagement on average, it’s because they’re posting great content that resonates with their audience.
Who can get verified on Instagram?
Anyone can request a verified badge on Instagram. However, Instagram is notoriously picky (and in many ways mysterious) about who actually gets verified. So, if you’re running an account that’s right on the cusp of “notable,” how do you know if you meet the criteria?
Just because you have a blue checkmark on Twitter or Facebook, for instance, doesn’t guarantee you’ll get one on Instagram.
Instagram is blunt, saying that “Only some public figures, celebrities, and brands have verified badges on Instagram.” In other words: “only accounts with a high likelihood of being impersonated.”
Here is what we do know about eligibility.
First, you must adhere to the network’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. On top of that, your account must meet each of these criteria:
- Authentic: does your account represent a real person, registered business, or brand? You cannot be a meme page or a fan account.
- Unique: only one account per person or business can get Instagram verified, with exceptions for language-specific accounts.
- Public: private Instagram accounts do not qualify for verification.
- Complete: do you have a complete bio, profile picture, and at least one post?
- Notable: this is where things get subjective, but Instagram defines a notable name as one that is “well-known” and “highly searched for. ”
If you’re relatively confident you meet these criteria, or you just feel like rolling the dice, it’s time to go ahead and verify your Instagram account.

The verification process on Instagram is actually quite simple:
- Go to your Instagram profile and tap the hamburger icon in the top right corner
- Tap Settings
- Tap Account
- Tap Request Verification
- Fill in the application form.
- Your legal name
- Your “known as” or working name (if applicable)
- Select your category or industry (for example: blogger/influencer, sports, news/media, business/brand/organization, etc.)
- You also need to submit a photo of your official government ID. For individuals, that could be a driver’s license or passport. For businesses, a utility bill, an official business document, or tax filings will do.
- Tap Send.
According to Instagram, after their team reviews your application, you’ll receive a response in your notifications tab. Because of historical and ongoing issues with scammers, Instagram is very clear that they will never email you, ask for money, or otherwise reach out.
Within a few days or a week (some say it can take up to 30 days), you’ll receive a direct yes or no. No feedback or explanation.
This is what a no looks like:
And here’s a yes, break out the bubbly:
10 tips to get verified on Instagram
So, yes, anyone can apply for verification on Instagram. But actually getting approved is a lot tougher.
We’ve gone ahead and compiled all the best practices that will maximize your chances of getting verified as you move forward with your quest to prove your brand’s noteworthiness.
1. Don’t try to buy an Instagram verification badge
We’ll get this one out of the way first: that guy in your comments who says his friend works for Instagram? Please do not give him money.
The same goes for any third-party app or random account that offers “full refunds.” And for any random account that DMs you because they want to sell you their badge because they “don’t need it anymore.”
Instagram scammers know that people and businesses feel outsized emotions about the blue check, and some are pretty effective at appearing legit, so stay on your guard. And remember that Instagram will never request payment, and will never contact you.
Tl;dr: The only way to get verified is through the official form, unless you are Jennifer Aniston (in which case, scroll down to Tip #7: Work with an agency or publicist, or maybe stop reading this article entirely because you’re doing great!).

2. Monitor for impostor accounts
If you’re struggling with persistent unauthorized, fake, or fan accounts impersonating your brand, then we have good news for you. You’re a prime candidate for verification on Instagram. After all, distinguishing real accounts from fake ones is verification’s stated purpose.
Your annual social media audit should make it clear whether impostor accounts are a problem for you. You’ll want to monitor and document these accounts using a social media monitoring tool like Zerofox’s Hootsuite integration.
3. Get more (real) followers
Look, we don’t have the numbers but it honestly feels sometimes like you need a ridiculous number of followers in order to get verified. There is absolutely no evidence that this is a real rule, but—it can’t hurt? Or maybe correlation does not imply causation after all?
Actually, what is more likely is that as people or brands get more noteworthy on and off Instagram, follower counts rise alongside.
If you want to hedge your bets and play it both ways—chicken and egg—here’s some inspiration for how to get more Instagram followers.
Pro Tip: Just don’t try to take a shortcut and buy your Instagram followers. (Plus, breaking the Community Guidelines and then asking Instagram to examine your account is a very effective way to get your account shut down.)
4. Delete any cross-platform links in your bio
In what some might call a slightly petty move (we would never dare), Instagram insists that verified accounts can’t have so-called “add me” links to other social media services in their Instagram profiles. You can include links to your website, landing pages, or other online properties, just definitely don’t link to your YouTube or Twitter account.
On the other hand, if you have a blue checkmark on your Facebook profile but not on your Instagram account, Instagram does explicitly encourage you to link to your Instagram account from your Facebook page to help prove your authenticity.
5. Be highly-searched for
Social media is all about serendipitous, organic discovery (this is what the Instagram Explore page is for, anyway—and making it big there can have a real impact on your engagement and follower count).
But when it comes to verification, Instagram wants to know if people care about you enough to tear themselves away from the seductions of the feed and spontaneously type your name into the search bar.
While Instagram doesn’t provide analytics on this data, we’d put money on the fact that Instagram’s verification team does have access, and will check up on how often users are searching for you. Which leads us to our next point…
6. Apply when your name is in the news
Google yourself. Has your brand been featured in multiple news sources? Did a recent press release or white paper get picked up? Do you have a sound bite or a profile in a major international publication? Paid or promotional content definitely does not count.
If PR hasn’t been a priority for your brand thus far, you might have a more difficult time proving how “notable” you are. Especially because there’s no place to submit your proof: Instagram does its own research, so it’s up to you to make sure your news is above the fold and impossible to ignore.
If you’ve recently experienced a windfall of attention, or you’re planning a big announcement, think about capitalizing on it and applying for that checkmark while your name is hot.
7. Work with an agency or publicist
If you have the budget and the ambition, hire a reputable digital agency that has access to Facebook’s Media Partner Support tools. Your publicist or agent will be able to submit requests to claim usernames, merge accounts, and get accounts verified through their industry-only portal.
Is verification guaranteed? Of course not. But a request from an industry professional through the Media Partner Support panel carries more weight and distinguishes you from the crowd.
8. Be honest
This tip should be a no-brainer, but because the consequences are dire we feel compelled to highlight it. In your application to be verified, you have to be truthful above all else.
Use your real name. Choose an appropriate category. Definitely don’t falsify any government documents.
If you stretch the truth anywhere in your application, Instagram says that it will not only deny your request, but it may delete your account as well.
9. Make sure your profile and bio are complete and effective
Instagram’s listed requirements for verification (a bio, a profile pic and one post? really?) are a low bar. You don’t just want to meet it. You want to hurtle over it.
Optimizing your Instagram bio will not just impress the verification team when they come to check you out, but can pay ongoing dividends in the form of new followers and conversions.
10. If you’re turned down the first time, try again
If, after all your hard work, Instagram comes back with a rejection, embrace the opportunity to zero in on your goals and redouble your efforts.
Hone your Instagram strategy, build a dedicated following, and earn buzz off the platform as well.
And then, whether you wait the 30 required days or spend a few fiscal quarters hitting your KPIs, you can apply again.

How to get verified on Instagram in 2022
We bet you have seen a blue tick next to the name on the accounts of celebrities, popular bloggers and brands more than once? We understand why it is needed, what benefits it gives and how to get it.
What is verification
Blue check marks on Instagram are official verified accounts. It confirms that this page is not fake, but really belongs to the individual or brand. It looks like this:
Why verification is needed
1. Identity or project verification
Accounts of actors, bands, athletes, brands, media, websites, government agencies, and even official pages of cities can receive verification.
2. Increasing the credibility of the page
And preventing fake twin accounts that scammers can use.
3. Monetization
Verified accounts that host ads can charge higher prices for ads. But this is more about a personal brand than business accounts of companies.
Remember that the blue checkmark does not mean increased priority for displaying posts in the user's feed, access to technical support, additional account protection from hacking, or other privileges. |
How to get verification: instructions
First of all, the page should not violate the rules of using Instagram and comply with the user agreement. The chances of getting verified increase if your account is:
- Authentic
Represents a real person, company or organization.
- Unique
The only exception applies to accounts of the same brand in different languages.
- Full
With all the necessary information in the profile, as well as previously posted publications.
- Noticeable
Users should be interested in your profile, and your company should also be mentioned in several different news sources besides Instagram itself.
Algorithm for getting a tick on Instagram for a company:
- Open "Settings", then "Account" and select "Request confirmation".
- Confirm the existence of the company and ownership of the account. To do this, indicate the real name and surname of the owner, attach an identity card, upload documents on registration of a legal entity or other materials that can confirm the authenticity of the company.
- Send an application for consideration and wait for a response from Facebook.
Not all accounts can become "Favorites". Instagram considers each application separately and decides whether to reward the profile with a blue tick or not.
Tips for getting a verification checkmark
A few important points in the end or how to manage Instagram so as not to be denied verification:
1. Link pages to Instagram in other social networks.
This will help confirm the authenticity of the account and the active presence of the brand on the Internet.
2. Do not use cheat services.
During verification, the account is carefully checked. If he was previously convicted of unfair promotion, then the blue checkmark does not shine for you.
3. Post a variety of content regularly.
The more and more actively your account develops, the more favorable Instagram will be. A profile with multiple photos will definitely be denied verification.
4. Clean up spam.
Even if you promoted your account according to all the rules, sometimes you need to clean it from spam comments and dubious followers. When considering an application for verification, Instagram looks not only at the quality of the content, but also at the subscribers.
5. Grow an active audience.
The more your account will be mentioned in posts, stories, write adequate comments or drive in the search, the more likely that Instagram will approve verification.
Submitting a request for verification of your Instagram account is easy. Especially for large companies. All the main work is for the brand before the application is submitted.

10 best ways to protect your Instagram account from being hacked
Today I will share with you simple, but not entirely obvious ways to protect your Instagram account from hacking and penetration. As you and I know, an Instagram account, promoted, with good live followers, with feedback, with many hundreds or even thousands of hours of invested work and the same hundreds and thousands of invested money, is worth exorbitant amounts. Or rather, it is not for sale at all. And what a shame it is when, because of some nonsense, such an account is stolen. Of course, it is possible to win it back later, but by no means always, and again, this is associated with a waste of money, nerves and time. So, it's better not to lose. But how not to lose, how to make sure that your Instagram account is not stolen - read below.
- RECORD EVERYTHING AT ONCE!!! This is the most important and most ignored advice. Do you know what people most often tell me when there is any problem with Instagram? “I forgot my email e-mail”, “I forgot my email password”, “I don’t remember my Instagram password”, “I don’t remember which Instagram username to enter”, “I forgot my head”, well so on, you understand me. The easiest thing to do before pressing ENTER when entering data is to copy it to a safe place. Get yourself, for example, such a cool service for remembering WORKFLOWY and write everything into it. The service has applications for computers, for iPhone and for Android. Let your passwords be securely protected in the cloud service. Just don't forget the password.
- Complex passwords. Use strong passwords for others, but easy ones for you. For example, the year of your birth + your street name + apartment number (in uppercase) and all this in the English layout, but in Russian letters. For example, you were born in 2001, on Lenin Street, in apartment 16. Put the Latin layout, but type it all in Russian: 2001Ktybyf!: - the last two characters (!:) are 16. Do you understand the essence?
- Real data. When registering, use a real e-mail, phone number, Facebook account. In general, if you are serious, use everything real at once. Never use someone else's, fake or generated credentials, also do not use numbers, emails and details of friends and acquaintances. In the future, this can play a very evil thing with you.
- Speaking of email. Use the mail service gmail.com whenever possible. Previously, there were cases when letters from Instagram simply did not come to other services, especially in the RU zone. That is, Instagram sends you to confirm your mailbox, but you do not receive this letter. Then you seem to start working in your Instagram account, but it either doesn’t let you like it, or it doesn’t let you follow. Often this is due to the fact that you simply did not verify the account. After registration, you will definitely receive a letter from Instagram and you definitely need to click the button in this letter to go to Instagram and start using it. If earlier they wrote “confirm your email”, now they don’t write and many don’t know that it is necessary to follow the received letter to Instagram itself when registering. And here's something else. Do not use mailboxes containing words with numbers. For example, don't use [email protected] Why? Just advice.
- Turn on two-factor authentication immediately after registration. This is such a thing that requires confirmation for each action with a code that is sent by SMS to your phone number. If an attacker does not have access to your SMS, then he will not be able to do anything with your account. This is powerful protection. Here's how to do it:
- Connect your Facebook account to your Instagram account. Linking is carried out in the Instagram application — ->> Settings — ->> Linked accounts —>> Facebook. Not only does this affect posting limits, but account protection also increases dramatically. Now, to recover an Instagram account, it is not necessary to remember the password or username, you can recover it through Facebook. Before linking Instagram to Facebook, the latter must be registered (if not yet). To register with Facebook, go to http://facebook.com and follow the instructions. For registration, all the same rules that I described above apply. By the way, you can first register Facebook and then Instagram on it, so it will be even more correct. Passwords, real emails and all that. And write everything down!
- If you use any third party apps, sites or services to promote Instagram, especially if that app asks for your details, password, username, sooner or later your account will be blocked. Prepare for this in advance and then do not suffer. By the way, Instagram is such an unpredictable thing that always have a double account. You don't have to lead it, just register it and let it "defend". The rules seem to be the same for everyone, however, as practice shows, for new accounts everything is much stricter, and at the slightest offense - a ban. And if the account is a year or two, then everything is easier and easier, and it is more difficult to block or ban.
- App access to Instagram account. Your Instagram profile at https://www.instagram.com/accounts/manage_access/ contains a list of apps that have access to your Instagram account. These are the applications that you yourself have allowed to do something in your account without your knowledge. Review this list carefully and revoke access to suspicious applications. If you accidentally revoke access to the desired application, it's okay, it will request access again when it needs it. In this case, as they say, it is better to over . .. than under ...
- How Instagram accounts are stolen. In most cases, the human factor of inattention is used. Namely, fake, or so-called, phishing links. What it is? This is when you go to some address you know, enter your username and password, and the site turns out to be fake. Thus, you yourself send your credentials to attackers. For example, until recently, direct links to Instagram were banned and not displayed on Vkontakte. And many administrators of large groups have figured out how to get around this ban. They made a redirect. For example, a photo, above it is a link that looks like Instagram, but not Instagram:
You are following such a link because you know that this community is normal and they will not plant a pig here. But you can’t check all the links, somewhere you accidentally click and don’t notice that you are asked to enter your Instagram username and password. Well, it happens, right? You enter everything. Account lost. Hence the moral! Pay close attention to the links you follow. Don't enter your details without making sure you see this in your browser's address bar: Only instagram.com - no extra letters or numbers! Remember, Instagram has only one address and it does not change and will not change!
- How to get back a stolen Instagram account. If it so happened that your Instagram account was stolen from you, your photos were posted there or everything was erased, and you forgot all the passwords and logins from it, still do not despair. The account can be returned, although it will take time and nerves to do this. Well, no one guarantees a 100% chance of a return, so it’s better not to lose. Read on our forum where and what to write if your Instagram account was stolen from you.
- And the last. Remember well and by heart. Instagram is a free social network. Instagram has not taken and does not take any money for considering your appeals and returning accounts. If someone tells you that the Instagram admin is asking or demanding money for some action, be 1000% sure that this is a scammer. Don't give in!
Good luck and great shots!

2017 Training, Tips and life hacks
Dear users, in mid-December, our service and all other services for promoting accounts on Instagram faced yet another protection algorithms.
Their essence is that when you log into your account from a device other than the one you usually use, Instagram asks you to confirm its security using a code.
ZenApp update - Instagram promotion has become even more convenient!
Here is a list of problems that absolutely any user can face when adding an account to Zengram or any other service for promoting Instagram accounts:
A verification window has appeared These are the requirements of Instagram, which want to protect users as much as possible from the “hijacking” of accounts. This innovation is made for the security of your account and now you need to get used to it. Instagram just asks you to confirm that you are the owner, launch your account on the service. Feel free to complete all steps to pass verification. Your account is not in danger!
To correctly start working on the service, you just need to pass verification in the window, which first offers a channel where the code will come, and then a window will appear for entering it. I would also like to note that in 50% of cases you will not see this window at all and the account will be added without any confirmation.
If confirmation with a code is required, just indicate where to Instagram to send the code: to the phone number or email associated with your account, enter the received code in a special field and click the "Send code" button.
The service will send this code to Instagram as confirmation of your account.
ZenApp now also for MAC OS. Even more likes on Instagram
Confirmation code
does not come This problem is widespread, and the most unpleasant thing is that it is caused by the unsatisfactory work of Instagram itself, as well as periodic blocking of messages and letters from providers and mail servers.
If you encounter this problem, try requesting the code again.
Or change the method of receiving the code: request, for example, not by phone, but by mail. If the code does not come again - try to do it in a few hours.
If the code still does not come - try deleting your account from Zengram in "Settings" and adding it again.
It has also been found that confirmation codes are best received by email, so confirmation by this method is preferable.
If your account is not linked to any email - do it in the profile settings cabinet in the web version of Instagram or in the application.
Verification loops
Update on Zengram channel on YouTube
There is no universal solution for this problem at the moment. This can happen with any account, no pattern has been identified.
What we recommend if you encounter this problem:
login to Zengram and, after successful synchronization, try adding an account again. Statistics show that in more than half of the cases, when adding an account after synchronization with ZenApp, the verification window does not appear at all, and the risk of getting “cyclic verification” is also significantly reduced. You can learn more about ZenApp in this article, and here you can read the answers to the most popular questions about the application. You can download the application from this link.
2. Try to delete your account from Zengram in “Settings” and add it again and verify again
3. Try to verify later. In fact, this is often how the problem is solved. It is necessary to give the account a “rest” and try again in a few hours or the next day.
We also inform you that you can get prompt help and advice from technical support operators using the Jivosite chat, which is currently available to all users.

Two-factor authentication Instagram: how to enable and disable?
Yesterday, March 23, 2017, the Instagram developers announced in their blog the addition of the long-awaited two-factor authentication feature for many.
In this article I will tell you what is two-factor authentication Instagram or as it is also called "Two-step authentication". Why and in what cases it should be used and when it is not necessary. Well, of course, I will show you how to enable it, how to use it correctly and how to disable it, in the case when this function is not needed.
In practice, it usually looks like this:
- The first level of protection is a login and password
- The second level of protection is a secret code that comes via SMS, email or using push notifications on the phone.
In general, the essence of this authorization method is quite simple: in order to get somewhere, you need to confirm the fact that you are you twice, and with the help of two different “keys”, one of which you own and the other you keep in mind.
Why do I need this?
If you are a regular user whose account is of little value, then you don't need it. But if you are an account owner with at least a couple of hundred followers or some public person, then in such a situation you should definitely enable two-step verification.
How to enable two-factor authentication for Instagram
1. Go to the Instagram application and click on the person icon in the lower right corner. Then in the profile window in the upper right corner, click on the three dots.
2. In the profile settings, select "Two-factor authentication". In the 2-Step Verification settings, set the "Require Code" slider to active.
3. If you did not provide a phone number when registering your account, you will have to do so now. Click on the "Enter number" button and enter your mobile phone number in the window that appears.
4. Enter your mobile phone number. If the number is correct, you will receive a security code that you must enter.
6. At the end you will be asked to take a screenshot of your backup codes. Backup codes can come in handy if you lose access to your phone number and cannot receive a security code via SMS.
I strongly advise against taking a screenshot and storing it in an unsecured way in the gallery, instead I can advise using a password manager for Android and iOS to store backup passcodes.
