Fix the last update. It is broken!

UPDATE: I’ve been contacted by support, it seemed like they really care to fix the problem. With new update my Viber is working without any problems. I really hope that they will not have any problems like this in the future. So… because support contacted me within 24hours, because they tried and care to resolve problem I changed my review to 5 stars.

I’ve been using this app over 6 years. I was even recommending it to all my family and friends. It is awesome, fast, never any problems with audio or video calls until the latest update. Since I updated it to the newest version it went down the hill. App start kicking me out, then it finally stopped doing that but then it start freezing. It froze for few minutes and then crash. I can’t do anything. I can’t back it up, I can’t report a problem, I can’t contact support… Nothing! I even tried removing the app and downloading it again. Even that didn’t help. It is so frustrating! I saw in the comments that I am not the only one with this problem. I really hope you will fix this problem soon.

Not possible to restore chat on secondary device (iPad)

I have been a loyal and frequent user of Viber for at least a decade now. Viber has been my app of choice over all other chat services, including phone text. Viber has been serving me great until recently. The most recent update has deleted my account from my secondary device (iPad). After several unsuccessful attempts to log back in and restore my chat history, I found an article on the Viber support pages which clearly states that it is no longer possible to restore 1-on-1 chats and group chat history on a secondary tablet device. Which is very strange, because chat history actually syncs perfectly on a secondary computer device. Why was this important functionality suddenly removed? What is the point of backing up chat history if I can’t sync with my secondary tablet devices? When I start a chat on the primary device, I am no longer able to pick it up on my secondary device. This makes the app on the secondary device useless, so unfortunately I had to change my previously solid 5-star rating to 3 stars. App developers - please fix this problem, and re-enable seamless chat history sync across all devices, as it works on the competitor apps. Otherwise the Viber app becomes completely pointless on the secondary devices. Thank you.

App crashes when doing chat history restore

I have been an avid user of the app for 7 years and it’s been great with the stickers and gifs that make messaging interesting. But I’ve had problems receiving and sending messages in the past month. I made sure I am using the latest version of the app and iOS software. So when that did the fix my problem, I opted to delete and reinstall the app since that seemed to fix the issue for some people.

However, when I tried to restore my chat history, the app would crash after 1% and revert to my phone’s home screen. When I try opening the app, the restore screen would pop up and again crash after 1%. Granted I have about 28gb of chat history, but I have enough phone and iCloud storage that it shouldn’t be an issue. I reached out to the Viber support team, but after the quick initial response with their “solutions” and me answering “No, tried it, still crashing on me,” I haven’t heard back from them which has now been 5 days.

I really hope that they are working on the issue and not just keeping me on a shelf of “to-work-on-later” issues. But until I receive a viable solution to the problem, the app will remain deleted for me since when (and if) the restore eventually chooses to work for me, I don’t want new messages to be erased.

1. Viber keeps crashing

Initial steps

First, you need to restart your phone and check if you are running the latest version of Viber. Then check if your phone has a good internet connection. 

Now follow the below steps:

Clear cache

  • Tap on the Settings icon.
  • Click on the apps & notifications icon.
  • Find the Viber app.
  • Hit on storage & cache.
  • Now, clear cache and storage to free up some space.

2. Viber not updating

Updating Viber shouldn't be a problem if you have enough memory or are connected to the internet. However, many users experience this issue even if the conditions mentioned above are fulfilled.

The easiest way to fix this issue is to clear the cache and data.

  • Go to your phone Settings, find App Manager (or however it's called on your phone), and find Viber.
  • Now only click on Clear Cache.

3. Viber error "registration can't be completed"

  • Check the phone number and SIM card - you need to check if the SIM card is valid. You entered the correct country code and phone number.
  • Check the internet's connection - Viber says no internet connection if neither mobile data nor Wi-Fi is enabled. It will also stop the registration process. 

  • Check activation code - check if you have entered the correct six-digit authentication code received via phone call or SMS.
  • Check account blocked - if you accidentally sent an access code request up to 3 times, Viber may deactivate your account and show a registration error message. For this, you need to reinstall the Viber app and create a new account.

4. Viber activation failed

Activating Viber seems like an easy thing to do. However, many users report problems with this first initial step. To activate Viber, you need to enter your phone number, and you should get an SMS with the activation code.

But, many users fail this step, and there are a couple of reasons for that.

  • First, you should confirm that your SIM card is valid. For example, if you are abroad, turn on data roaming to receive SMS. If it's not, you won't get the activation code.
  • Second, Viber always requires an internet connection – cellular data or Wi-Fi.
  • If that doesn't work, try other options to receive an activation code like "activate via call."

If you don’t have access to the internet, you’ll get the message saying that it's required. However, when you have access to the internet and your SIM card is valid, you should be able to receive your six-digit code via SMS. You can even get it via phone call, which is great.

It's an automatic callback feature that will activate Viber when you answer the call. If you’ve requested your code 3+ times, your account will be blocked. You’ll then need to reinstall Viber and make a new account.

5. Viber blocked the number

Viber may block your account if it considers you spam, suspects your behavior, or suspects you violate Viber's t&c ( Viber Terms of Service and the Viber Out Fair Usage Principles). 8. Viber is always online

The Viber app shows you online even if you exit the app because it runs in the background. However, if you want Viber to show you offline for some reason, here is how you can do it.

  • Open Viber and tap on Navicon.
  • Click on the Settings.
  • Click on Privacy.
  • Finally, untick Share 'Online' Status.

9. Viber disconnected abruptly

One of the many Viber app problems is that the app may disconnect unexpectedly. It is due to various reasons. So, here's what to do: 

  • In case of a low networking signal like 3g, the Viber may disconnect abruptly. Then you need to connect it over Wi-Fi or find a spot with good cellular data networking signals like 4g, lte, or 5g.

There’s a strange Viber Sleep Policy that the app sets by default. This doesn’t allow the app to connect to Wi-Fi unless you wake up your phone. We mentioned a setting similar to this just a minute ago, but this one applies only to Viber, making these two completely independent.

To fix this issue, open Viber on your phone, tap on three horizontal lines at the bottom right side, and you’ll see the menu. There, tap Settings and then General. Next, you should see the “Wi-Fi Sleep Policy” option.

Choose Always Connected, which is the first one. The second one is the device's Wi-Fi Sleep Policy, which you don't want to use. So now, your app should work correctly.

11. Viber can't find contacts

Viber users often complain that Viber can't save a contact or are unable to find their contacts. Follow the below steps:

  • Open the Viber app.
  • Tap More on the right bottom of your screen.
  • Hit the Settings tab.
  • Click the General options.
  • Hit "Sync contacts" plus "Show contacts. "
  • Now click on the mobile phone's Settings icon and click Application Manager.
  • Select the Viber app and go to the Permissions option

12. Viber Won't Send or Receive Messages & Image

  • Launch Viber and go to Settings.
  • Click on Calls and Messages.
  • Tick mark Viber-in-calls.

14. Viber video call is not working

  • First, open Viber and click on the Menu option.

15. The camera won't work only on Viber

  • First, check camera permission for Viber.

16. Viber Not Ringing

Usually, Viber doesn’t ring when your phone is locked. Instead, your display shows you the notification, but you don’t hear that ‘clicking sound. To solve this, go to your Wi-Fi Settings, choose Advanced, and check Keep Wi-Fi on When Screen Times Out.

When it's locked, your phone may not be using the internet, meaning that you don't receive notifications unless you unlock it. Alternatively, you can choose a notification type in your iPhone Settings app if you use an iPhone.

17. Viber Desktop Not Working

For Viber Desktop to work, you need the following ports for TCP and UDP:

  • • 5245
  • • 4244
  • • 5243
  • • 7985
  • • 80
  • • 443

These ports can be opened if you go to Control Panel and find Windows Firewall. There, click on Advanced Settings, and on the left, there's the Inbound Rules table. Inside, click on New Rule, and the wizard will open.

In the New Inbound Rule Wizard, click Port and Next. Next, select TCP and enter the ports we’ve mentioned above. Click on Next, and then Allow the Connection. Proceed until the end of the New Inbound Rule Wizard and name it Viber. Click "Finish", and your ports will be opened. The same procedure is for UDP, so you’ll only need to choose it in the NIRL (New Inbound Rule Wizard).
