Home How To How to send AWESOME quality photos on WhatsApp from iPhone and Android phones

Sending top quality photos on WhatsApp is difficult, but if you want to do so, it is very much possible both on your iPhone and Android devices; here is how to do so.

WhatsApp tips and tricks: WhatsApp is known to reduce the quality of the photos that you send and receive from both iPhone and Android phones. By default, WhatsApp reduces the photo quality by 70% for faster data sharing purposes. But sometimes, this can be very frustrating, especially if you need to share a high-resolution image for an official reason or just to keep it as a memory. But there is a way to bypass this auto image compression and send high resolution images on WhatsApp whether you use an iPhone or an Android device. To send WhatsApp high-resolution images, you just need to follow a few simple steps. Read on to find what they are.

While WhatsApp is great for instant communication and sending memes, it gets a little annoying when you are trying to send a really nice high-resolution photo as it keeps reducing its quality. With WhatsApp's auto image compression, these images often lose their soul and become hard to use. Well, do not worry. WhatsApp does have an option which lets you send high quality images very easily. There are two ways you can do it, to varying degrees of higher resolution.

How to send high-resolution images on WhatsApp - the simpler way

This is the comparatively easier method that you can use. While it will still not allow you to send a full quality image, it will improve the quality of the picture by a significant margin. You can do it on either iPhone or Android but this is not available on WhatsApp web version. Send WhatsApp high resolution images this way:

1. Open WhatsApp and go to Settings.

2. Tap on Storage and Data option.

3. Scroll down to ‘Media upload quality'.

4.Choose Best Quality.

And done. One advantage of this method is that you only have to do it once, and all your images from that point onwards will be sent in a higher resolution. However, it can be data intensive, so ideally unless you are on WiFi or have a large amount of mobile internet data, this will eat up your data balance quickly.

There is one other way, which, while a little longer, will allow you to share full quality images. This too, can be used on both iPhone and Android, as well as WhatsApp web. The only downside to this method is that you will have to repeat the steps over and over every time you want to send a high-resolution image on WhatsApp.

How to send high-resolution images on WhatsApp - the better way

Step 1:

Go to the chat or group where you want to send the image.

Step 2:

Tap on the clip icon next to the camera and WhatsApp payment icon in your text box.

Step 3:

Select ‘Document’.

Step 4:

Now browse through your files to find the image you want to send.

Step 5:

If you have any difficulties, the image should be in your camera folder.

Step 6:

Select the image and press ‘Send’.

Step 7:

And that’s it. You have successfully sent a high resolution image on WhatsApp

How to send full-size images and videos on WhatsApp

By Karandeep Singh

The alternative ways, however, don't come without a few downsides

WhatsApp is used every day by billions of people around the world to send millions of supremely paramount memes and cat videos. Those little media files may work well to lighten up your mood on a boring workday, but they are immensely stressful for WhatsApp servers. That’s why the messaging app heavily compresses those files to save some bandwidth and reduce loading times for its users.

Sure, doing that does help WhatsApp go easy on your phone storage and mobile data, but it often renders those media files unusable outside the app. WhatsApp’s compression algorithms are nowhere close to Google Photos’ Storage Saver mode, and the loss in image quality is pretty evident, especially for pics with small details or tiny text fonts. Plus, the size caps in place reduce the image and video resolution quite significantly, making the received photos a no-go for printing.

The easy solution

The solution to this issue is surprisingly easy, as you won’t need to deviate much from your regular flow for sending photos and videos. Usually, you’d pick Gallery after clicking on the attach icon inside the chat window. But to bypass WhatsApp’s compression for sending full-res images, you need to pick Document instead of Gallery. The option usually comes in handy for sending all non-media file formats, but you can use it as easily for your media files stored on your device as well.

Click on the attach button > Document > Browse other docs…

Following this path should bring up your phone’s file manager, where you can pick the images (should be listed as *.jpg files) that you need to share on WhatsApp. This way, the app will treat them as non-media files and won’t run its compression algorithms on them. In my experience, a 12MP (4096 x 3072 pixels) photo of 4MB had all its attributes preserved on the other end with Document, while taking the Gallery route squashed the same pic to 127KB with a 1280 x 960 resolution.

2 Images

If you’ve got a whole collection of photos that you want to send across, zipping them all together would make more sense if you don’t want a long list of files to show up in your WhatsApp chat window. You can follow the same path mentioned above to share these zipped folders on WhatsApp.

There is a good chance that your phone’s built-in file manager lets you compress folders for online sharing, though certain apps like Files by Google (formerly Files Go) don’t have the option. In that case, you can always go for any third-party file browser if you often find yourself sending a bunch of media files to your WhatsApp contacts.

Some downsides

The most obvious downside to using the Document tool is that neither your recipient nor you will get a preview of the image or video inside the chat; all they’ll see is a muddled file name and extension in the chat. And clicking on those files will open the contents in a supported app installed on your phone, instead of using WhatsApp’s built-in and slightly more convenient media interaction tools. Plus, they won't show up in the media grid when browsing the gallery of images and videos shared in a specific chat, so you can't easily find them with that method. You'll have to dig for them in your local storage or remember the date they were shared on or the file's name — both of which aren't realistic solutions.

Left: WhatsApp's built-in media tool, Center & Right: Google Photos' media controls for jpegs sent as documents.

Another thing of note here is that you cannot use Document to send the images that are already backed up to Google Photos and are no longer there on the device storage. This option only works for the files that are still on your phone. WhatsApp also caps the document file size at 100MB (versus 16MB for media), which is reasonable for personal use, but it’s definitely something to bear in mind when trying to send larger video files.

Given all these drawbacks that somewhat degrade your experience on WhatsApp, the document tool may not be the best option for everyday use. You’d be better off going the Gallery way for your casual, forwarded media while keeping Document for occasionally sharing the memories and important snaps that your recipients would want to retain in high quality.

How to send photos from one WhatsApp to another

One of the key advantages of the WhatsApp messenger is the ability to share media files. Previously, to send videos, photos and documents, you had to use file sharing services, or e-mail. Now all this functionality is available in free communication applications. However, there are some nuances, we will tell you how to send photos from WhatsApp to WhatsApp, what to do to reduce image quality loss, and what ways to send media are provided inside the program.

How to send a photo from WhatsApp to WhatsApp without losing quality

There are many ways to send an image in the messenger. However, in most cases, sending in the standard way can significantly reduce the quality of the image. The thing is that if the file is too large, it will be automatically compressed. In principle, this approach of developers is understandable. There is a huge amount of media being sent here every day, and there is a need to conserve server space. And this can only be done by compressing the content. Another reason to reduce the picture is the data transfer rate, because the lower it is, the faster the sending occurs.

However, there is a way for you to keep the original quality of the photo. For this, files are sent, although there is no button for such a transfer, everything is arranged differently here. Instructions for sending a photo inside WhatsApp, which will help you keep the original size:

  1. Open a chat with your interlocutor.
  2. At the bottom of the screen you will see the symbol Paperclip , tap on it.
  3. An additional window will display options for attaching data, select "Document" .
  4. A menu will open, click "View Other Documents" if the required PDF file is not in the list.
  5. Click on block "Pictures" , select a photo to send.
  6. A window will pop up on the screen, in which touch the button "Send" .

However, there are some limitations. You will not be able to upload a file if its total size is more than 100 MB. Therefore, if the file weighs more, then it will not be possible to send it, and you still have to compress it.

Please note! When sending a photo to WhatsApp, there is a media size limit of up to 5 MB, but if you send through the "Documents" option, you can transfer a file weighing up to 100 MB.

What are the disadvantages when sending photos as a file

There are some disadvantages in this option of sending photos. Despite the ability to transfer them almost in their original quality, there are disadvantages of this method:

  1. An increase in mobile traffic consumption, so it's better to use a Wi-Fi connection.
  2. Such a file will not have a thumbnail.
  3. Viewing them is only available in section "Documents" and there is no preview.
  4. The messenger will gradually take up more and more memory in the device. cache data gets full and will need to be cleared frequently.

The standard way to send a photo from WhatsApp to Whatsapp

If the quality characteristics of the pictures received by your interlocutor are not so relevant to you, then use the usual method. This saves a thumbnail image that allows you to preview the content. The algorithm will be the following:

  1. To get started, you must have a photo ready in your smartphone gallery.
