There are 13 relationship status types available to select on Facebook. Some of them; like married, single, in a relationship, engaged, divorced, separated, and widowed; are well-known terms around the world. Meanwhile, others require a bit of an explanation depending on where you live
Here are a few of the other relationship terms Facebook includes and what they mean:
- In a civil union: This term was created originally for same-sex couples and is defined as a union with legal rights similar to marriage. The term is used in certain states in the U.S.
- In a domestic partnership: When two people live together but are not married.
- It's complicated: This is not a legal relationship term and it is typically used when a couple is not in a relationship but they are together. Some people use this when their relationship is fraught with tension.
- In an open relationship: This is a relationship that is non-exclusive. People in an open relationship court other people while dating each other.
The family statuses are fairly simple and require no explanation: mother, father, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, grandmother, grandfather, step-mother, step-father, step-daughter, step-son, nephew, niece, cousin, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, and father-in-law.

90,000 how to put or change the status on FacebookThe concept of status in social networks. Facebook can have different interpretations. How to view and where to change this information, read more….
About terms
It has happened since the very beginning of the existence of social networks that two basic concepts are understood as status:
- A short saying that expresses your views on life, or just seemed interesting to you.
- Your current status.
- Your marital or personal status: married, in a relationship, single, etc.
All this can be indicated on Facebook, but these information fields have a completely different name. nine0003
The main way to change
First, let's figure out how to put a status on Facebook, or write an interesting thought under your profile:
- Log in to your social network account.
- On the main page, click on your avatar with the name (in the upper right corner or the top line in the column on the left).
- You are in your profile, click the "Edit profile" button.
- Here you can set a photo for the avatar and for the cover of your personal page, and write a little "About yourself" below. nine0096
- Click "Add" or edit
- You can briefly describe your lifestyle, eg traveller, writer, collector. Or write your favorite phrase.
- Please note that you cannot change the audience for this information. Here, the default value is always “Available to everyone”, which means that what you write about yourself can be read by any Facebook user.
- Click Save.
Another option is relationships
In social networks, it is worth writing honestly about your personal life. People who already have a couple will be able to avoid ambiguous hints and unnecessary contacts. And those who are not yet in a relationship may find a partner much faster. After all, Facebook is millions of free people around the world, open for communication.
So, let's figure out how to make or change the status on Facebook:
- Enter your profile (click on the profile picture).
- Click the Edit Profile button. nine0096
- Scroll down the window, in the "Tell me more about yourself" section, click "Edit".
- In the column "Marital status" click on the pencil and select one of the twelve options. Facebook has provided statuses for all occasions: married, divorced, single, in an open relationship and much more.
- For the statuses "Married", "In partnership", "In a relationship", "Engaged", you can specify the name of the partner, as well as the date the relationship began.
- Below you can add the profiles of your family members if they are also registered on Facebook: click on the line "Family member", a list of all your friends will open. Choose a person, then indicate who he is to you (father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife, etc.)
- You can set the degree of privacy for both marital status and relatives. This information can be seen by all users, only friends or no one at all (just me).
Important: in order to add a relative to Facebook, you must first become friends in the social network.
About the moment
If you are itching to tell your followers about what is happening to you right now, you can create a post with feelings or actions:
- On the main page of the social network, click on the line "What's new with you?"
- Select the “feelings/actions” emoji at the bottom of the post window ⇑
- This will open a window with two tabs, where you can find dozens of feelings and actions suitable for almost any situation, for example: “happy, heading to Paris”.
- Click "publish", after which the audience will know that this page has updated its status on facebook, which means that something interesting is happening on it. nine0096
About Status account:
This Facebook section will not tell anything new about you to subscribers.
It is available only to you, and you cannot change anything in it:
- Go to your personal profile (click on the avatar).
- Click on the three dots on the right under the cover photo.
- Select the "Account Status" line.
- Here you can see: the name of the profile and its ID, restrictions that can be imposed by the social network for violating the rules, as well as the pages and groups that you manage. nine0096
On an android phone and iPhone
On a phone, in the Facebook mobile application, you can set the status as "About yourself" and about your personal life (the instructions for iPhone and Android are similar):
- Open the application , log in.
- Tap the ≡ icon and then "View your profile".
- Select Edit Public Information.
- In the Information section, click Change.
- In the "Biography" field, you can write about yourself briefly or simply state your views in the form of a well-aimed statement.
- In the "Marital status" field, tap the pencil and select your status from the options provided. By the way, if you do not want to indicate anything, you can select dashes.
- If you have a couple, you can write the name of the partner and the date of the beginning of the relationship
- Choose who can see this information: tap the globe icon and set the privacy level. nine0096
- Click Save.
By the way, Instagram, as a subsidiary of Facebook, has many similar features. In particular, you can almost similarly indicate a brief info "About yourself". But do not even try to find how to put a status on your personal life, this possibility simply does not exist.
