Instagram Music Not Working? 7 Ways to Troubleshoot

  • If Instagram's music library is not working with your Story, It's not out of the ordinary, and it can be a quick fix.
  • If the music sticker doesn't work for you, make sure your app is up to date, or try logging out and back in.
  • Some users also have success switching from their Professional to Personal account to reactivate music in Instagram.

In recent months, an increasing number of users have found that they've been occasionally unable to add music to Instagram. Specifically, the music sticker in Instagram Stories has not worked as expected. If you try to use the music library in Instagram and find it doesn't work, here are a few simple troubleshooting tips that can often fix the problem and get you up and running again.

Check to see if you have the music sticker

If you add the music sticker to a story, you should see a rich library of music. Dave Johnson

Start by checking to see if the music sticker is available and working for you. Tap the Plus at the top of the screen and then, in the dropdown menu, tap Story. Choose a photo or video to add to your story.

Now you can tap the Music icon or tap Stickers and then select the Music sticker. Either way, you should see an extensive list of music options in Instagram's music library. If you don't, try some of the following troubleshooting steps.

Make sure the Instagram app is up to date

If you haven't updated your Instagram app in a while, it's possible that the version you have installed doesn't yet support music, or it has a bug preventing Instagram Music from working properly.

It's a good idea to leave automatic updates turned on so your apps update automatically, but it's also possible to force an app like Instagram to update manually. Here's how to update the Instagram app manually on Android, and if you have an iPhone, the process is similar:

1. Start the App Store app.

2. Tap the Search icon at the bottom right and search for "Instagram."

3. If the app has an update available, the button will say Update — tap it. Otherwise, it'll say Open, and that indicates you are already up to date.

Switch back to your personal account

Some users have reported that they lost access to music when upgrading to an Instagram Business account. If you're logged into a Professional account, it's easy to switch back to your Personal account to see if that resolves your problem. Don't worry about losing access to your professional account — you can switch back and forth as often as you like.

1. Go to your profile page in the bottom-right corner.

2. Tap the three-line menu at the top right and then, in the pop-up menu, tap Settings

3. Tap Account

4. Scroll to the bottom and choose Switch to Personal Account

It might take some time for the music feature to work again in your personal account.

Log out of Instagram

Another way to troubleshoot your Instagram glitch is to sign out and then sign back in again. It's possible that when you log back in, the music feature will be restored.

1. Go to your profile page in the bottom-right corner.

2. Tap the three-line menu at the top right of the page and then, in the pop-up menu, tap Settings

3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Log Out.

4. Log back into Instagram using your usual Instagram account credentials.

Reinstall the app

If logging out and back in again didn't resolve the problem, there might be a problem with your installation of the Instagram app, or the app's data cache could be corrupted and prevent the app from working properly. Either way, an easy fix is to simply uninstall the app and then reinstall it. You'll need to log back in with your usual account credentials, but nothing in your Instagram account will be lost.

If you're using an iPhone, here is how to uninstall an app from your iPhone. Similarly, you can uninstall Instagram from your Android device. Afterward, simply install a fresh version from Google Play or the App Store and log back in.

Check to see if Instagram is having service outages

It's possible that parts of the Instagram service are offline, and that may be affecting your ability to use parts of the app, such as the music library. You might want to look at Instagram's status page at DownDetector to see if the service is offline or having a serious outage.

Check DownDetector to see if a service outage could be affecting the music library. Dave Johnson

Reach out to Instagram customer support

If none of these troubleshooting tips were able to restore Instagram Music on your device, it might be time to reach out to Instagram customer support. Instagram has a customer support phone number as well as a robust help center with support articles, FAQs and a system for reporting problems. For more information, here are all the details on how to contact Instagram customer support.

Instagram Showing Weird Music only? 6 SOLUTIONS that work

Alexandra | Aug 4, 2021

Are you seeing new weird music on Instagram on one of your accounts? Foreign music you’ve never heard of before? And all the popular songs are gone?

And maybe your other account has normal music?

It seems like it is an Instagram bug. Instagram usually fixes these issues within a couple of days.

So you could wait.

But good news:

Some people managed to get their normal music back!

So if you don’t want to wait, I’m going to share the 6 main tricks that worked for them.

Try one solution. If one solution doesn’t work, move on to the next.

Let’s start.

Tip:

Schedule your Instagram Posts, Reels, Stories with Preview App and 10 Million Intagrammers!

Solution #1.

Change your page category

Let’s start with the easiest solution first.

This seems to work for some people.

Change your page category to something that doesn’t sound like a “business“.

Examples of page categories that work:

  • “Community”
  • “Just for Fun”
  • “Entrepreneur”
  • “Blogger”

How to change your page category:

  1. Under your Instagram bio, press on “Edit Profile”
  2. Under “Profile information” > Category
  3. Change the category to one of the above
  4. Check if you have the Music

Note: It might take a few hours to show the normal music again.

What if the weird music is still here?

Try the next solution.

Solution #2. Switch from Business to Creator Instagram account

Warning: if you have a Business profile right now. Do not switch back to a Personal account.

Try this first:

  1. Switch to a Creator Instagram account.
  2. Then switch back to a Business account.
  3. Wait for 5 minutes.
  4. Check if the Music is back.
  5. Switch to a Business account again.

Note:

For some people, it takes about 2 days for normal music to come back. After that, you can switch back to a Business account.

If you don’t want to wait, go to Solution #3.

Solution #3. Switch to a Personal Account and reinstall the Instagram app

For some people, switching to a Personal Instagram account worked instantly.

So if the previous solutions didn’t work, try this:

  1. Switch your account to Personal
  2. Delete the Instagram app
  3. Re-download it
  4. Check if the Music is back to normal
  5. If it is, you can switch back to a Business Profile

Solution #4.

Repost a Story that has music

Some people found a weird loophole to get normal music back.

You need to have a second account that has Music.

Then do this:

  1. Go on your second account
  2. Create a Story with Music from your second account
  3. Tag your main account that doesn’t have Music
  4. Post the Story
  5. Go on your main account
  6. Go to your messages and repost the Story you’re tagged in
  7. Unmute your phone / increase the volume to activate the Music
  8. Check if your normal Music is back

If it doesn’t work, then try the next trick.

Solution #5. Save your own music

If none of the tricks above helped, then you can use this trick as a temporary solution.

At least, you will have some sort of music.

Try this:

  1. Open one of your Reels video that has an audio / song you want to use
  2. Press on the song title at the bottom of the Reels video
  3. Press on “Save Audio”
  4. Go in your Instagram Stories
  5. Check if you can use this song

And if you want more music to add to your own library, use the last solution.

Solution #6. Save other people’s good music

Save the music from other people’s Reels.

  1. Find someone else’s Reels video that has an audio / song you like
  2. Press on the song title at the bottom of their Reels video
  3. Press on “Save Audio”
  4. Go in your Instagram Stories
  5. Check if you can use this music

That’s it!

Did any of the tricks work for you?

Instagram Music not available in your region? Here's how to get it

From time to time, you may come across Instagram Stories that have "music", and whenever you turn them on, the app says: "Instagram music is not available in your region. " Well, Instagram Music is the latest addition to Instagram Stories that allows you to add a small music clip to your stories. Clicking on it plays the song and users can reply with a message or share the song with their story.

I wanted to try this feature, but for some reason I couldn't find it anywhere. It turns out that Instagram only launched the feature in a few countries such as Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Sweden, the UK, and the US. If you live outside of these countries, you can't watch other people's music on Instagram or create your own. Luckily, with this guide, there is a way to not only add music to your stories, but also access music in other people's stories. Let's start. nine0003

This is not Spotify Music

The music on Instagram is different from the Spotify stories you've watched on your Instagram feed. Unlike Instagram Music, Spotify only allows you to post the album art of the song you are listening to on Spotify, and there is no sound in these stories. If you want to add Spotify history, please go to Spotify, play the song and click the "Options" button on the top right corner. Click the Share button and select Instagram Stories. The app will open Instagram and put the album art as a story preview and you can post it as your story or DM to your friends. nine0003

Like Spotify, Instagram Music is licensed by record companies and they can only release this feature in those regions. To get around this geo-restriction, you can use a good VPN to access your Instagram music. Well, there are more steps to take here than just running a VPN. This works on both Andriod and iOS devices.

Instagram Music is not available in your region - here's how to fix it

First remove the Instagram app from your device. This is very important because the app is registered in your country the first time you launch the app. nine0003

After uninstalling the app, enable VPN on your phone. use Smart DNS Proxy But you can use any VPN and it should work fine. SurfEasy is a free alternative if you don't need a paid VPN. Make sure you've connected a server from one of those countries, otherwise you won't see the Music button.

List of countries - Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Sweden, UK, USA.

Once your VPN is enabled, go to the Play Store and install Instagram again. After installation is complete, sign in to your account. nine0003

Now tap the add story button or swipe up on the home screen in the Instagram app. Now look in the lower left corner, you will see the Music tab. You can record a video by pressing a button and then selecting the music of your choice.

You can simply add a short 15 second video to your stories and adjust the slider to select your favorite part of the song. Pretty neat, isn't it?

What's more, you can also add music to photos. Go to your story and take a picture as usual. Press the sticker button and select music. Find your favorite track, scroll down to your favorite snippet and add it.
