Here is a step-by-step guide which you can follow to set your Instagram account to private from the Instagram app. You can set your Instagram account to private from your Android as well as an iOS device.
Step 1: First you need to open the Instagram app on your Android or iOS device.
Step 2: Then go to your profile, then tap Settings.
Step 3: From the given option tap Privacy and then Account Privacy.
Step 4: Next you need to tap next to Private Account to make your account private.

How to make your Instagram account private on Android or iOS devicesIt's a simple task to make your Instagram account private, you just need to find out where to do so. Start by opening the app and heading to your profile page by tapping the person-shaped icon at the bottom right-hand corner of your phone's screen.

Next, tap the cog-shaped icon at the top of the pop-up list that appears to take you to your settings menu.

Then, look halfway down the next page to see your "Account Privacy" options. Tap this.

Tap toggle the button to blue to "Private account" to change your Instagram account privacy settings. The first time you do this, Instagram will give you the useful option to review your current followers in case you want to revoke access for anyone on that list.

To make your account public again, simply toggle the Private account button back to white to deactivate the extra privacy.

When you first do this, Instagram will show you a warning window to ensure you understand the changes you are making.

What happens now your account is set to privateNow, only people who follow you will now be able to see your posts, your followers list or your following list.
If anyone visits your profile page, they will see your basic information, your profile photo, and a message stating "This Account is Private" giving further instructions on how to send a follow request.

When you make your profile private, you can still use hashtags. Such posts will be selectively displayed on hashtag pages. Your subscribers will be able to see them, and they will be hidden from everyone else.
Setting up a private profile won't prevent people from seeing your likes in public posts. If you like someone's post, anyone who can see it will also be able to see that you liked it and click on their username, but they still need to get approved to see the content on your profile.
Mentions, comments, notifications, and your privacy settings
If your profile is set to private and you mention someone who doesn't follow you, they won't be notified.
If you leave a comment on a photo or video uploaded by someone whose profile is public, everyone will be able to see the comment and click on your username, even if your profile is set to private.
If you use Instagram Direct to send content to a group and your profile is set to private, your posts and any related comments and mentions will only be visible to your approved followers.
Other Instagram privacy settings
You can prevent your followers from receiving offers to follow "similar accounts" and mutual friends by following these simple steps:
- Open the Instagram app or go to Instagram.com in a browser.
- Go to Profile > Edit Profile.
- Find similar account offers, click next to them to turn them off, and click Submit.
Once you turn off account suggestions, Instagram will no longer suggest that your followers follow other people.
However, this will also prevent your profile from appearing as an offer on other people's profiles.
Your images may appear in Google searches. This happens if you have allowed the web viewer to access your profile and images. In addition to setting up a personal profile, you can remove your images from Google search by revoking access to a third-party website.
To prevent your contacts from finding you on Instagram, you can disable your phone number in a few steps. On your mobile device:
