All correspondence that took place after this time, unfortunately, cannot be restored, unless, of course, you made a backup copy of the messages yourself.

Where are WhatsApp messages copied to? To your phone's memory or to an SD card, if it is selected by default as the main storage of information on your device. You can find out where WhatsApp backups are stored if you go into your smartphone's File Manager (sometimes called File Explorer) and find a folder called WhatsApp and a Databases subfolder in it.

How to backup WhatsApp on Android?

For Android smartphones, there are two ways to copy Watsap data - local and virtual. Below we will analyze both methods in detail and explain why each of them is needed.

Local

Local refers to storing files in the device's memory. This is what is done every day at two o'clock in the morning by the installation of the developers and stores all your chats in case they need to be restored.

• You need to enter the application and call the settings panel in the upper right corner.

Virtual

Virtual refers to saving files in the cloud storage on Google Drive. It is necessary, for example, to transfer information when changing the phone, as well as in case the device is accidentally damaged to such an extent that extracting information from its memory is impossible.

It, like the local one, can be configured to automatically save a fresh copy of WhatsApp to Google Drive. It is also possible to set different time intervals, from once a day to once a month. You can do it like this:

• Open WhatsApp and go to Settings

• Select "Chats" from the menu and then "Backup Chats".
• "Google Drive Settings" will appear in front of you.

• First of all, you should choose the account where the information will be stored now. Just touch the "Account" line and click on the one you need.
• After that, decide how often copying will suit you and replace the item "Never" with any other of the proposed ones, at your discretion.
• Please note that all video files are not saved on the virtual disk due to space saving. If this does not suit you, check the box next to "Add video"

Your data is now stored in Google Drive! WhatsApp backups will be searched from it.

How to backup WhatsApp on iPhone?

For iOS phones, the way to create storage for files is slightly different from the one described above. But, in the same way, you can make both a one-time copy and set up the system so that it creates backups at a certain time. All information will be stored on your iCloud account.

You can do it like this:

• Find the control panel in the application and touch the inscription “Settings”
• Select “Chats”, then “Copy”
• Now you can create a one-time copy (a) or make the copy automatic at certain intervals (b).

A - Touch the "Create a copy" button and wait until the information is saved.

B - Find the item "Automatically" and select the period of time after which you want the data to be saved. Decide if you want all downloaded videos to be saved with other information as well (this will take up much more space) and confirm your choice on the screen.

How do I copy all WhatsApp messages to my computer?

If you want to save all correspondence with your loved ones on your computer, then it is not difficult to do so. Chats and their contents (excluding media files) can be sent to yourself via email.

You can do it like this:

• In the WhatsApp application, open “Settings”, then “Chats”

• Click on “Chat History”

• From the four items that appear, select “Send by e-mail” and then follow the prompts of the system. So you can save all messages in WhatsApp and send them to your computer.

Attention! If the chat history is too large, it may not be sent in full due to email size limitations. The only way to send the missing information is to delete the older entries in the application after they are on the computer, then the missing part of the information can be sent a second time. How to delete a WhatsApp backup?

For Android

• • Delete the application from the device;
  • Download it again from Play Market;

• When confirming the number, the program will ask if you will restore backups;
• Agree with "Restore".

If the application did not find the necessary copies, the reasons for this may be the following:

• Your files on the internal memory of the device or on the card have been corrupted;
• The phone number used is not the one that was registered in the account;
• You are connected to a different Google Drive than the copy was made to.

For iPhone

• You need to delete this application from your phone, and then download it again through the App Store;
• Verify your phone number;
• Following the prompts of the system, when asked whether to restore the data, click on "Restore";
• Files will be restored using iCloud account.

Possible problems during backup and how to solve them

If there are obstacles when copying data, pay attention to the following facts:

• Internet connection quality

If the signal is weak, then you need to change the network to another one with a stronger and more stable signal. For example, change mobile Internet to Wi-Fi.

• Traffic amount

If the traffic package on your tariff is not enough, the connection may be interrupted and copying will not be completed.

• Free space on device or virtual disk

When there is not enough space, the system may refuse to transfer data. Free up enough space.

• Google or iCloud account not linked to device
• If the corresponding account is not created on the phone, create it and check its connection with WhatsApp in the application settings menu.

How do I transfer my chat history to the new Android?

You have the option to transfer your chat history to a new Android phone if you transfer your local backup or restore a backup from Google Drive. Local backup refers to the automatic backup of the chat history in the WhatsApp folder on your phone. This process takes place every day at 2 am. The WhatsApp folder is located on your device's internal storage or on an external SD card. Quick steps

1. Backup chats on your old phone.
   • Go to WhatsApp > Menu > Settings > Chats and calls > Chat backup .
2. Move the external SD card to your new phone if the folder WhatsApp/Database is located on the external SD card.

3. Install WhatsApp on your new phone.
4. Verify the same WhatsApp phone number that you used to back up your chats.
5. Click on Restore when prompted to restore your message history.

Detailed steps

To transfer chats from one Android to another, follow these steps:

1. First, back up your recent chats manually.
   • Go to WhatsApp > Menu > Settings > Chats & calls > Chat backup or Chat backup .
2. Second, transfer this backup to your new Android.
   • If your phone has an external SD card, remove it from your old phone and install it on your new phone.
   • For phones that have an internal memory card or an internal SD card (like most Samsung devices): you need to transfer the /sdcard/WhatsApp/ folder from your old phone to the same folder on your new phone. There are two ways to do this: use the file explorer or transfer the backup files to your computer.
   • Please note that some files may be missing during migration. Make sure all the files you want to transfer to your new phone are backed up.

Migrate with Google Drive Backup

1. Back up Google Drive chats manually on your old phone.
   • Open WhatsApp > go to Menu > Settings > Chats and calls > Chat backup > Backup .
2. Add the same Google account that you used to back up on your old phone to your new phone. Also make sure you use the same phone number on the new device.
3. Install WhatsApp on a new phone.
4. After confirming the same number that was used for backup on the old phone, you will be prompted to restore your messages and media from Google Drive.
5. After the restore process is completed, click on Next. , your chats will appear as soon as initialization completes.
6. After restoring chats, WhatsApp will start restoring your media files.
