Instagram Stories were a big hit with users worldwide. They’re interesting, customizable, and make for great entertainment. It’s for this reason; they’re just as fun to view as they are to make. If you’ve taken advantage of Instagram’s Stories feature, you’d probably love some feedback about who is watching your artwork.
In this edition of the Tips and Tricks series, we look at how to see who viewed your Instagram story.
Almost everyone likes to share stuff, but the best bit about the whole process is discovering who has seen it. We all want to know who’s checking us out. Fortunately, you can see every person who viewed your Stories after you posted them. Here’s how:
Now that you know how to see who viewed your Story, there’s still plenty to learn.
More people see your first Story than your last for two reasons: When someone swipes right, they’ll always see your first Story, and you can skip the rest of someone’s Story by swiping right instead of touching or clicking right. If you want to see who has seen all of your stories, including the first one on your screen, click the Seen by… in the bottom, left-hand corner.
Analytics are slightly different from the views we’ve talked about above. While Analytics won’t tell you who saw your content, they will give you a lot of insight into how your Stories are doing.
From how many other users they’re reaching to how many views you’ve had, Analytics is the perfect tool for marketers and influencers alike.
The next step is to check your analytics.
If you have a business account, this list will appear so that you can do the following:
The above features are helpful if you want to grow a decent following on your Instagram account.
When it comes to privacy, only you can see who has visited your Story and how many visits it had. If it’s a total failure, you’ll be thankful for this little detail.
As you can see, viewing who saw your Instagram Stories is not that complicated. Just follow the above guide, and you’re good to go!
With respect to the internet and social media, in particular, a lot of users are left wondering, “When should you be concerned about your privacy?” There isn’t exactly a cookie-cutter answer here. There are several reasons you may want to see who’s checking out your content.
Are you trying to impress one person, and you’re hoping that they’re noticing? Are you trying to track your path to Instagram fame? Or are you worried that someone is viewing your content for nefarious purposes?
If you’re wondering whether or not a crush or an influencer is noticing your Stories, it would probably be easier to ask them if they saw it, had any tips, or liked it since you can’t see how many times they viewed it.
Assuming you’d like to track your path to fame, switch your Instagram account to a Professional Account where you can get real-time updates and analytics.
Lastly, if someone is stalking or harassing you, block them. It’s that simple, honestly. You can also report abusive users and those who use your Instagram story for reasons that go against the Community Guidelines.
If you’re concerned about your security or an Instagram stalker, you may be curious to know if someone can view your Story without detection. While some third-party apps and websites claim to do this, most don’t actually let anyone view your content if it’s private and they aren’t your friend.
There is one workaround that many Instagram users swear by, but it can be a little tricky and only shows a preview of the Story. If you aren’t familiar with every function of Instagram’s Stories, it is possible to pause and preview the next one undetected.
By choosing a Story to the right of yours, the user could long-press the current Story and slowly drag the screen to the right where they could preview your Story.
Since the user never actually opened your Story all the way, you’d never know they were interested.
However, if they happened to scroll all the way to the right, Instagram would recognize that they did open your Story, and you’d get a notification. So, like we said, it can be tricky.
In case our article didn’t answer all of your questions, we’ve included more information here.
No, but there are some theories that those who view the stories the most will appear at the top of the list. If you suspect that someone is viewing your Story multiple times and you don’t want them to, it may be a good idea to hide your Story from them altogether. You can do this when posting, select the option for who to share your Story with, and exclude that person if there’s a concern.
Instagram tends to go back and forth on this, but currently, no.
Only Direct Messages with photos on Instagram send screenshot alerts. It’s best to avoid putting anything online you wouldn’t want someone to save for later.
No, the only indicator that someone is snooping around is if they interact with your profile. For example, click on your Story, comment, like, share, etc.
Only if you’ve set your Instagram account settings to archive your stories, visit the horizontal three-dot icon from your Profile page to access your Archives. According to Instagram, the Stories in your archive folder will only show your viewers for 48 hours, so if you want to investigate who viewed your Stories, you’ll need to act quickly.
Plus how to hide it from specific people
Do you think someone’s secretly spying on your Instagram stories? Is that even possible? Well, it is. Luckily, Instagram lets you see people who viewed your Instagram story.
But you may not be able to see everyone who viewed your stories, especially if they’re using third-party/unofficial apps.
This tutorial covers different ways to see who viewed your Instagram story. You’ll also learn how to hide your stories from specific people.
Table of Contents
Instagram stories have an “Activity” card where you can see who viewed content you upload. You can even check how people interacted with your stories if you’re running a business account.
You check who viewed your Instagram story when it’s on your profile and even 24 hours after it disappears.
Different stories can (and may) have different viewers and view counts. So, if you uploaded multiple stories, select each story to check their viewers. Instagram records replays of your story. Hence, a story view count may be more than the number of viewers.
Say your story has 25 views, but there are only 16 people on the list of viewers. That’s because some accounts viewed your story multiple times.
If someone liked your story, you’d see a red heart emoji in the bottom corner of the person’s profile picture.
A “No one has seen this yet” message will appear on the screen if nobody has viewed your story.
The story activity dashboard for Instagram Professional and Business accounts is slightly different and more advanced. An “Insight” tab shows you more information about your story activities.
Tap the histogram or chart icon in the top-right corner of the story activity dashboard.
You’ll find a summary of several key insights about your story—accounts reached, impressions, content interaction, etc. Data from these story insights can help improve engagement and grow your business.
Yes, people can view your story anonymously, but not through the official Instagram app. Some third-party apps and websites allow people to view Instagram stories without the account owner’s knowledge. InstaStories is a popular website for secretly viewing and downloading stories of Instagram users with a public profile.
All you need to view someone’s Instagram stories on these services is the person’s username. The platforms are often free, and you don’t even need to have an Instagram account.
Note: Third-party services that prompt you to link your Instagram account to their apps may be unsafe. Sometimes, they are unreliable and fail to work. Avoid providing your Instagram login credentials to third parties unless you have to.
You should know that you cannot view expired or deleted stories on Instagram or third-party tools. Instagram stories expire 24 hours after the time of upload.
There’s currently no way to anonymously view the stories of Instagram users with a private profile—not even with third-party tools. They can always check who viewed their stories—there’s nowhere for viewers to hide. Likewise, you must be following a private account before viewing the person’s status.
Instagram deletes content on your story after 24 hours. You can no longer access deleted or expired stories from your profile or homepage. The content also becomes unavailable to your followers and public viewers.
However, Instagram provides a further 24-hour period to see who viewed your story after it disappears from your profile. So in total, you can see who viewed your Instagram stories 48 hours after they’re uploaded.
You’ll find a collection of old (and expired) stories you’ve posted on your profile on the “Stories Archive” page.
Instagram may display only the number of views without showing the usernames of the people who viewed your story. That usually happens when the story has recently expired after 24 hours. Closing and reopening the Instagram app might resolve the issue.
If you still can’t see the usernames of people who view your story, wait for some minutes and check again.
There are different ways to dictate who can view your Instagram Stories.
You can either make your profile private, create a “Close Friends” list, or hide stories from specific people.
Only people following you can view and share your Instagram posts and stories when you make your page private. Here’s how to make your account private on iPhones and Android devices:
You may get a prompt to review your followers. We recommend that you go through the list and remove people you don’t want to view your stories.
Creating a Close Friends list lets you share stories with a select number of people. Only people on the list can view your story. The best part is that you can add as many people as you want to your Close Friends list.
People on the list will know they’re on it, but they can’t see other people on the list. Only you have access to that information. Here’s how to create a Close Friends list and share stories with people on the list.
You’ll see a green badge next to the profile picture of people you add to the list. There’s a search bar to find people you want to add quickly. Type the person’s username in the search bar, and tap Add to include them in your Close Friend list.
You can add anyone to your Close Friends list—people who aren’t following you and people you don’t follow.
Instagram doesn’t notify people you added or removed from your Close Friends list. When you share stories with your Close Friends, people on the list will see a green ring around your profile picture. That tells them they’re on your Close Friends list.
Hide Instagram Stories from Specific PeopleInstagram lets you hide your stories from specific Instagram users—similar to WhatsApp, Facebook, and other popular social media platforms. Here’s how to get it done:
Note that hiding your stories also hides your live videos from restricted users. These are currently the three effective methods to gatekeep your Instagram stories. We’ll update this article when Instagram introduces more story-related privacy features in the future.

With the advent of the stories function, accounts began to have questions about the privacy of information - “Who sees my publications?”. In the article we will tell you how to see who watched the story on Instagram on a mobile phone or personal computer.
Stories on Instagram is a new and convenient way to tell about yourself, draw attention to your page and promote your account, which is especially important for users who conduct commercial and advertising activities on the platform. The duration of one publication does not exceed 15 seconds, it can be a video or a photo. The material is broadcast for a certain period of time. After 24 hours, your post will be automatically removed from the news feed and moved to the archive list, from which it can be republished if desired.
Can you see who viewed stories on Instagram? Access to the content is open to each user in the service, provided that the profile has not limited the circle of trusted persons in the privacy settings. If your account is private, only subscribers to your account can view content.
After a successful placement, you can see at any time who has read the stories. This information is only available to the account owner who posted the content to the feed. All others do not have rights to view statistics. Below we will analyze in detail how to find out who watched the story on a mobile phone or on a personal computer.
Consider the procedure for checking statistics on history views:
Please note that this information is only available for 24 hours. Once the material has gone to the archive list, you will not be able to see the profiles that have seen the entry. Only the total number of views for the entire time after the content was posted will be displayed here.
As for current stories in the Highlights section, the principle of action is similar. It is enough to click on the desired content and see all the viewers, the opportunity is available only for 24 hours from the moment the material was posted in the feed.
If you use a social network through a personal computer, then you will also have no problem getting acquainted with the statistics of views.
For information, follow the instructions:
Once 24 hours have passed, you will not be able to view the statistics on the web version, because the interface does not have an archive function. To fix this problem, you need to download an additional Android emulator or install additional browser extensions that allow you to use the mobile version of Instagram on a PC.
Statistics may not be available for the following reasons:
If you don't want other visitors to see your posts, you can configure the application. To do this:
If you want your story to be seen only by subscribers and friends, you need to activate a private profile:
After these steps, access to the page, publications and stories will be open only to subscribers and friends.
From the article, we learned how to see who watched stories and the latest on Instagram. This information is open only to the user who posted the material and is available only for 24 hours from the moment of publication.
In the archive you can see only the number of visits.
Who Viewed Your Instagram Stories?
To see who has seen your story, open it and swipe up on the screen. You'll see the number of views as well as the Instagram usernames of the people who viewed the photo or video in your story.
Open the publication. Swipe up on the screen. Result - you will see the number and names of people who viewed each photo / video of your story. This information is available only to the owner of the story.
Now after 24 hours the history will be automatically saved to the archive. Thanks to this, you can relive memorable moments from the life of your company at any time or even share them in the “Actual from Stories” section. To view archived stories, tap the archive icon on your profile.
What can I do if I need to see the video I watched again? If you liked the video while watching it, you can find it on your profile page in the menu by selecting Account - Posts you liked; if you clicked the checkbox below the video, look for the "Saved" section in the menu.
Stories are stored in the active feed for 24 hours, during this time all users who viewed it before it disappeared are saved and can be viewed. After the story disappears from the feed and you keep it up to date, you will no longer see new viewers.
If ‘someone’ views your Instagram stories anonymously through a special service, you will not be able to find out who is doing it, since this ‘someone’ does not use their Instagram account and therefore cannot leave their traces on your Instagram.
1) Tap the Menu icon at the top right corner of the screen and select Archive.2) At the top, select Story Archive.3) Select the desired story.4) Swipe up to open the list of people who have viewed your story.
The author of the publication will receive a notification about the screenshot of his publication, without specifying who exactly took it. To find out the "culprit", you will need to go to the list of people who have viewed the photo, and the stalkers will be marked with a special icon.
How algorithms work in Instagram Stories The stories that appear first in the feed are the stories of those accounts that Instagram considers interesting to you. Those accounts whose posts you react to: comment, like, reshare and save.
Specify the period - now on Instagram * a random selection of dates is available, but within 90 days. And go to Stories – Instagram* will show you how many Stories have been posted. And again, the selection of the period and filtering of all Stories by the specified metric are available. Stories can also be sorted from newest to oldest and vice versa.
Stories are kept in the feed for 24 hours and then automatically deleted. Only the person who posted them can see them - for this there is a special section "Archive", where all stories are displayed by date.
If his name doesn't appear, it's likely that he removed you from his Instagram account, which means you can't "follow" him or view his stories.
If you still have doubts, take one more step: create a new user account on Instagram and find this person again.
Let's get straight to the point: Instagram doesn't have a built-in way to find out who's been on your profile. Because it is, in fact, the most serious privacy issue.
All content in Stories is kept for exactly 24 hours, then disappears forever. You can find Friends Stories in the top ribbon with circles.
It will not be possible to recognize guests on Instagram - there are not even third-party applications and services that would allow them to be seen. The exception is stories: you can always see who viewed them. But you can't unload users who have viewed your stories.
Let's get straight to the point: Instagram doesn't have a built-in way to find out who's been on your profile.
