Why you can trust Pocket-lint
(Pocket-lint) - Instagram has a feature called Recently Deleted that allows you to recover recently deleted posts, including photos, videos, reels, and stories.
Since last year, deleted items on Instagram stay in your "Recently Deleted" folder for 30 days. After that, they are auto-deleted forever. The only exception is deleted stories, which will stay in the Recently Deleted folder for 24 hours before they too are gone for good. Here is how to find Instagram's Recently Deleted folder and restore any deleted posts.
Follow the steps below to access Instagram's Recently Deleted folder:
Instagram will ask via email or text to verify you're the account owner when permanently deleting or restoring content from Recently Deleted.
You can recover the following content from your Instagram account if you've deleted it within the last 30 days:
Note: Deleted stories will stay in the Recently Deleted folder for up to 24 hours. Everything else will be automatically deleted 30 days later.

Instagram users can now review and restore deleted content on app with the help of Recently Deleted feature.
Are you an Instagram user and love sharing pictures on the application? Here is something you need to know. Instagram has a feature that allows you to manage your content on the application. You can even review and restore Instagram deleted posts, stories, photos, etc., by using the Recently Deleted feature. Instagram rolled out the "Recently Deleted" feature in February 2021. The application has also added protections to help prevent hackers from compromising your account and deleting posts you have shared.
Hackers sometimes delete content when they gain access to an account and people had no way of easily getting their photos and videos back. But now Instagram will ask people to first verify that they are the rightful account holders when permanently deleting or restoring content from Recently Deleted.
Photos, videos, reels, IGTV videos and stories you choose to delete are removed from your account immediately and moved to the Recently Deleted folder. Users can note that deleted stories that are not in your archive will stay in the folder for up to 24 hours. Everything else will be automatically deleted 30 days later.
During those 30 days, you can access your deleted content by going to Settings and then Account and Recently Deleted on the latest version of the Instagram app. From there you can either restore or permanently delete it.

Instagram Stories are a great way to share moments of your life with your followers.
You can take a photo or a 15 second video and add it to your story for your followers to see.
Instagram stories will be automatically deleted after 24 hours. If you don't want to wait 24 hours, you can manually remove it from your profile.
Sometimes you may regret posting a story and delete it later.
However, if you forgot to save it, you may not know how to restore it.
In this guide, you will learn how to recover deleted Instagram stories in 3 easy steps.
To recover deleted Instagram stories, you need to go to your stories archive.
Once in the history archive, find the story you want to restore and save it.
Saving an archived story will save it to your photo gallery.
You can also re-share an archived story on your profile.
Re-sharing a story will automatically add a "Memories" caption with the date.
You can also remove the signature if you don't need it by dragging it onto the trash icon.
However, please note that you can only recover Instagram stories that were automatically deleted after 24 hours.
If you manually deleted an Instagram story, you may not be able to find it in your stories archive.
That being said, below is the step by step guide to recover deleted stories from Instagram.
Open Instagram > go to your profile > menu > Archive.
The first step is to go to your Instagram archives.
First, open the Instagram app on your mobile device.
Don't use Instagram on desktop as you won't be able to access your archives there.
Once you're logged into Instagram, click on your profile icon in the bottom navigation bar.
Once you click on your profile icon, you will be taken to your Instagram profile.
You will see a menu icon at the top of your profile.
Click on the menu icon to open the menu.
In the menu you will see several options including settings, archive, your actions and more. On the settings page, you can adjust settings such as notifications, privacy, and security.
On the other hand, the Archive page allows you to see your archived posts, past stories, and live streams.
Click "Archive" to go to your Instagram archive.
Continue to the next step to learn how to find your past Instagram stories.
History archive> navigate to the past history you want to restore.
After you click "Archive", you will be taken to the archive page.
There are three archive pages, including stories archive, message archive and live archive.
Stories Archive lets you see your past Instagram stories.
The message archive displays all messages that you have archived.
Finally, the live archive shows your past Instagram live streams.
If you are not on the Stories Archive page, click the drop-down arrow on the top navigation bar.
Then select "History Archive" from the three options.
Once you have selected "Stories Archive", you will see a grid list of all your past Instagram stories.
These stories are categorized by newest first, so if you want to find an older story, you need to scroll up.
You can determine the exact time you posted a story by looking at the date stamp in the left corner of each story.
Find the history you want to restore and click on it to view it.
If you cannot find the history, it means that you deleted it manually.
In this case, you will not be able to recover the deleted story unless you save it to your photo gallery.
Continue to the next step to learn how to save the deleted story to your photo gallery.
Click "More" > Save photo/video to save photo or video to gallery.

After you click on the deleted story you want to recover, the photo/video will expand.
The photo/video will be displayed as a normal story. At the bottom of the story, you'll see three different icons, including Promote, Highlight, and More.
The Promote feature allows you to promote your story to people who don't follow you.
"Highlight" will add a story to the favorites of your choice.
Finally, "More" will open up more options.
Click "More" to open more options.
After you click More, you can delete the story, save it, share it as a post, reshare it, or tag a business partner.
If the story is a photo, click Save Photo to save the photo to your gallery.
On the other hand, if the story is a video, click Save Video instead.
Alternatively, if you want to share the story again, click Share Archived Story Home.
Re-sharing a story will include a "Memories" caption with the date the story was published.
You can remove the signature if you don't need it by dragging it to the trash icon.

Instagram stories that are automatically deleted can always be restored. You can find them in your stories archive. However, if you manually deleted an Instagram story, you won't be able to find it in your stories archive.
This is because the story will be permanently removed from the Instagram database.
If this happens, your best bet is to request a download of your data from Instagram.
You can find the download request by going to your profile > menu > settings > security > download data > request download.
After you request the download of your data, it will be sent to your email address.
Please note that it may take up to 48 hours or more for Instagram to collect the data and send it to you.
Even so, it is not guaranteed that you can find your deleted Instagram story there.
