How to read whatsapp messages on notification bar

How to Read WhatsApp Messages Secretly

You may often find it difficult to respond immediately to a WhatsApp message due to your busy schedule. Yet, at the same time, you may want to know what the message is to prepare yourself for the upcoming conversation. Now, if you open the message out of curiosity or anticipation but forget to reply, good luck having a tough time explaining why the message was ignored or not important enough to be answered.

Nevertheless, there are a couple of workarounds using which you can see WhatsApp messages without letting the sender know that you’ve read them. In this article, let’s talk about some of these hacks on how to read WhatsApp messages secretly.

Read WhatsApp Messages Secretly

1] See Messages through Notification Panel

If you’re using an Android phone, you can read WhatsApp messages directly through the notification panel by pulling down on the notification. Doing this will expand it, revealing all the stacked messages from a particular conversation. Besides this, you can also use options to reply to the message and open links directly from within the notification based on your Android version.

2] Use Airplane Mode

Whenever a message arrives, the first thing to do is to turn on Airplane mode through the quick setting tiles in the notification panel. After that, you can open the app and read the message. Once done, remove WhatsApp from the recent app list and close it forcibly by going to the App Info page and clicking on “Force Stop.”

This will prevent it from syncing in the background once you disable the Airplane mode. As a result, the messages you just opened will not be marked as read until you open the app again. Note that this isn’t the most feasible method as WhatsApp will pop those blue ticks the very next time it refreshes in the backdrop.

3] Disable WhatsApp Read Receipts & Last Seen

For users having a very tight schedule throughout the day, we’d recommend turning off read receipts for WhatsApp messages. This will prevent the sender from knowing that you’ve read his/her message by showing two grey ticks instead of blue ticks. However, the same will be applicable to you, and you won’t be able to see when they’ve read yours, so keep a note of that.

To disable WhatsApp read receipts:

  1. Open WhatsApp on your phone.
  2. Tap the three dots on the top right corner and click on Settings.
  3. Navigate to Account > Privacy.
  4. Find the Read Receipts option and flick the toggle beside it to disable the feature. As mentioned, messages from now will be shown as delivered for the sender, even if you’ve opened and read them thoroughly.

Now that you’ve turned off read receipts, the next important step will be to hide your last seen activity. Or else, the sender would check your last active time on the app and figure it out if you haven’t even bothered to check their message.

To hide last seen on WhatsApp:

  1. Open WhatsApp and head to Settings via the three-dot menu.
  2. Click on Account and navigate to the Privacy section.
  3. Here, click on Last Seen and change it from ‘My Contacts’ to ‘Nobody.’

That’s it. You can now go on and entertain important messages while leaving the rest of them to be answered later. For ease of access, you can use the Mark as Unread option for chats that you want to skip at the moment (it only marks them as unread for you, not for the sender).

4] Read WhatsApp messages through Pop-ups

Swiping down the notification panel and then pulling down the notification to read the message could be tiresome for many. And hence, you can use pop-ups or notification heads to serve the same purpose. When turned on, you’ll get a small preview of the message you just received on the top of your screen, irrespective of what app you’re in.

To turn on WhatsApp pop-up notifications:

  1. Open WhatsApp and head to Settings.
  2. Head to the Notifications section.
  3. Click Pop-up notification and enable it with the customization of your choice.
  4. Furthermore, based on your Android version, you can head to the WhatsApp’s App Info page in the settings and enable “Banners” or “Notification Heads” for each notification category.

5] Read WhatsApp messages through Widget

A lot of you might have forgotten that WhatsApp even offers a widget where you can take a preview of your unread conversations. So head to the widgets section, scroll down and drag the WhatsApp 4 x 2 widget on your home screen, as shown in the screenshots above.

Now, you may not see the whole text in case if it’s huge, but then again, it’s super easy and convenient to have a quick view of WhatsApp messages right on your home screen.

Read WhatsApp Messages In Secret Without Read Receipt

As you may know already, you can turn off the read receipts in WhatsApp. With this trick the sender of a message cannot see that the receiver has read the message yet. This also works vice versa though. So if you turned this feature off, you cannot see the WhatsApp read receipts of others either. There is another trick that allows you to read a message without sending a read receipt and not turning off the read receipts. Hence, you can read WhatsApp messages in secret and still see if your messages have been read.

Read WhatsApp messages in secret with 3D Touch or Haptic Touch

Required: You need an iPhone 6s or later for this trick, because it requires the 3D Touch or Haptic Touch feature, which earlier iPhone models do not have.

This is how you do it: It is important that you do not open the notification, once you receive a WhatsApp message, especially if you want to read it in secret. Once you open the notification WhatsApp will mark it as read and the sender will get a read receipt.

Instead you should wait until the notification disappears on its own. The next step is to close WhatsApp completely by pressing the Home Button twice (up to iPhone 8) or swiping from the bottom to the middle of the screen (iPhone X or later) and swiping WhatsApp upwards. If you do not take this step, WhatsApp will automatically open the last received message. Now open “WhatsApp” and tap “Chats” in the bottom bar, if necessary. Now you should see a blue dot next to the received message, which shows that you have not read it yet.

Instead of tapping the message to open, you just tap it slightly to display the preview of the message. If you tap it too hard, it will open the message and the sender will see the read receipt.

Read WhatsApp messages in secret without 3D Touch

You can read WhatsApp messages in secret by using the interactive notifications. Your iPhone then displays the whole message through the WhatsApp message preview. It works in the Notifications Center, on the Lock Screen, and with incoming messages as well.

Swipe downwards on an incoming notification, that notifies you about a new WhatsApp message. You can then read the whole message (not the preview) without sending a read receipt.

In the Notifications Center and on the Lock Screen you can swipe the notification to the left and choose “View” to read WhatsApp messages in secret without sending a read receipt.

Now we will tell you how to bypass this limitation and read your WhatsApp messages in secret from everyone.

It is worth noting that in fact, in order to read messages in incognito mode, there are several ways at once. nine0003

  • Launch WhatsApp and tap the three dots at the top right corner of the screen
  • Enter the Settings menu
  • Select Notifications

  • Launch WhatsApp and tap the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen
  • Enter Settings
  • Select Notifications
  • Turn on the switch next to Use high priority notifications.

Read WhatsApp messages in the notification bar

Using an Android smartphone, you will be notified of new WhatsApp messages located in the notification bar at the top of the screen. Instead of tapping on them to open the app, swipe down to read the message. Your message will not be marked as read. nine0003

Read WhatsApp messages in an Android widget

Almost all Android phones support widgets. If WhatsApp messenger is installed on your smartphone, then you will also find the WhatsApp screen widget in a special repository.
Touch and hold a WhatsApp widget to drag it to the home screen. Any incoming WhatsApp messages will be visible in this widget without having to launch the app and open them. And that means without options that your presence will be noticed. nine0003

How to read messages discreetly on WhatsApp

Imagine this situation: a wife is washing dishes in the kitchen, her husband is telling her from the living room to buy cigarettes. The wife finished the kitchen chores, got dressed and went shopping, and when she returned, it turned out that her husband was left without tobacco products. The situation is unpleasant, while no one seems to be to blame: after all, the spouse did not know that the sound of water from the tap drowned out his words. nine0003

In many modern messengers, including WhatsApp, the occurrence of such cases is prevented by sending a notification to the interlocutor that your message has been read. The function is certainly very useful, but there are times when the recipient of the SMS does not want the sender to know about reading it.

You may not always be eager to reply to messages, especially if the other person is talkative and you are not. Or if the information sent does not interest you at all, but you consider it indecent not to respond to the message if your counterpart knows that you have read it. Finally, if you do not want to communicate with a certain contact at all, but you do not consider it possible to delete it. nine0003

In all these cases, you can make sure that your interlocutor does not receive notifications about reading his messages, which you still want to read out of elementary curiosity. And you can do this in many ways, which we will talk about today. You will only have to choose the most suitable of them.

Read messages through the notification panel

The first and easiest way to read an incoming message in WhatsApp discreetly does not require you to perform any actions at all. If you have been using the messenger for a long time, then most likely you already know about it. The fact is that when WhatsApp receives a new message, it notifies the owner of the mobile gadget about the new event by placing part of the text in the notification bar. nine0003

You can read it without opening the application itself, and for obvious reasons, the interlocutor will not know whether you have read his message or not.

Of course, if the message is short, you will be able to read it in full, otherwise it is not guaranteed that you will guess what it is about from the passage of text, and then you will have to launch the messenger.

And one more limitation: this function must be activated, otherwise no text messages will appear in the notification panel of the smartphone. You can do it like this:

    • start the messenger;
    • enter the application settings by tapping on the three dots at the top of the WhatsApp window;
    • select the "Notifications" tab;
    • tap on the sub-item "Pop-up notifications";
    • turn on the "Only when the screen is off" parameter.

    Activating Airplane Mode

Another well-known and popular way to quietly read a message without opening WhatsApp is to use Airplane Mode. nine0003

The method is very easy to use: when you receive a notification about a new message, put your phone in flight mode, the easiest way to do this is through the notification panel.

Then you can safely open WhatsApp and read the message in normal mode, in this case the blue checkmark should not appear, that is, your interlocutor will not know that you have already read his message.

Then you need to close the messenger and only after that turn off the flight mode, not vice versa! Otherwise, immediately after switching to normal talk mode, blue checkmarks will appear, even if the phone is offline. nine0003

Note that this method is really easy to use and easy to remember, but in flight mode you will not be able to use WhatsApp fully - only to read the correspondence.

    Through the WhatsApp settings

In principle, nothing prevents you from making a message unread using the WhatsApp settings. The idea is simple - you turn off read receipts and only then view the message.

To do this, start the messenger, go to the settings (three dots in the upper right corner of the application), select the "Account" item and then the "Privacy" sub-item. nine0003

It remains to uncheck the "Read reports" option, after which the sender will no longer show that you have read his messages. But this is a double-edged sword, because now you will not be able to know if your SMS messages are being read from the other side.

In other words, this method can only be called acceptable if you want to disable the display of read receipts forever and for everyone, including yourself. As a temporary measure, it can also be used, but the first two methods are much more convenient in this regard. nine0003

    Using the WhatsApp Widget

Another good way to make viewed WhatsApp messages unread for the interlocutor. True, it is only suitable for users of Android phones, but since those are the majority, this can hardly be called a disadvantage.

The essence of the method is to place the messenger widget on the main screen. In this case, when a new message arrives in WhatsApp, it will be shown through the widget, without launching the messenger itself. True, this only applies to the text itself and messenger emoticons, which can be easily interpreted. The widget will not show photos, video and audio content, it has not been trained in this. nine0003

The principle of adding a widget to the main screen is standard: you need to press your finger on an empty area of \u200b\u200bthe screen and hold it until a menu appears at the bottom in which we are interested in the “Widgets” tab. After pressing it, a screen with a list of available widgets will appear, scroll through it, looking for the WhatsApp icon. Press it and hold until the widget appears in the bottom status bar. You can delete it at any time if you wish.

    Unseen 9 application0023

Almost all functions of Android and system applications are duplicated by third-party software. Messengers are no exception. In particular, for WhatsApp there is a specialized application that allows you to hide the fact that you have read his messages for the sender.

All you need to do is go to Google Play and type Unseen in the search box, download the app and install it on your phone. After starting, follow the prompt of the wizard.

Before you can use Unseen to read messages without going to WhatsApp, you will need to agree to the request to allow notifications to be displayed. nine0003

It may seem that using a third-party application is not very attractive in terms of time costs, but it is not. Firstly, Unseen understands not only text, but also all media formats, and secondly, it works equally well with other popular instant messengers, including Telegram, Viber, Messenger, Instagram. And no blue ticks.

    Browser extension

If you have a desktop PC or laptop, you can use them to hide that you have read the message. nine0003

To do this, install the WAIncognito extension in your browser. Today there are versions for Google Chrome, Firefox and the browser from Yandex.

So, go to the Chrome Web Store, type in WAIncognito in the search bar, click on the extension icon that appears and click the "Install" button.

The list of installed extensions will be replenished with the web version of the messenger, with which you can read incognito messages without logging into WhatsApp. nine0003

The extension works with all types of content, and its functionality is not much inferior to the mobile application.

    Method for iPhone

Users of "apple" gadgets can use another way to read messages hidden from the sender, but for this their operating system must be at least iOS 13.

The method of reading messages is very simple and easy to remember: as soon as a notification arrives on the lock screen of a smartphone or tablet that a WhatsApp message has been received, you need to tap on it and hold your finger a little longer than you usually do. As a result, the full text of the message will be displayed on the screen, and if it is very large, it can be scrolled up and down. The main thing is not to brush off the notification from the screen, in this case, to read the message, you will have to launch the messenger.
