How to post a picture in comments on instagram

[SOLVED] Uploading Photos To Instagram AND Responding To Comments From Your Laptop Or Desktop - SocMedSean

As you probably, Instagram is really a mobile-based application, which means it’s difficult to upload photos to Instagram from your computer. There is a web version of Instagram, but it is VERY limited as to feature-functionality, really just letting you view photos and read comments.

There isn’t a quick, easy way to use the Web to post on Instagram from a computer which kind of sucks for those time when you want to upload vacation photos that are stored on an SD card from your digital camera. Additionally, Instagram has made it so that you cannot respond to comments using their browser-based version of the site.

This means that in order to interact with your followers, you HAVE to type all your responses on your phone or tablet. If you have a lot of engagement, this really sucks.

Please note: Some of the links in my posts are affiliate links. I get commissions for purchases made through those links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases when you buy something from those links.

After an hour of thumb typing replies to comments, you basically want to stick your thumbs in your eyes to end the misery.

Trying to reply to a lot of Instagram comments using just the mobile app will make you want to stick your thumbs in your eyes to end the madness. Click To Tweet

As a result, I have been on the hunt for the perfect browser-based Instagram client for quite a while now. I’m been wondering whether you can actually post on Instagram from a computer rather than only from a mobile device.

Over the years, I have tested a bunch of methods and I thought I would detail them here for those who might be interested.

NOTE: As a result of some questions from readers, I also added in some bonus content that helps you add a comment to Instagram from a computer as well as edit your Instagram comments from a laptop or desktop. I hope these help!

So, if you are hunting for the answer to the question of “Can I post on Instagram from my computer”, then read on and hopefully one of the solutions below will fit.

Solution #1 – Use Dropbox To Post To Instagram

My first article on this topic reviewed a few options and then landed on a Dropbox to Instagram solution that has worked really well for me over the years. I wrote this article after spending a couple of hours trying to figure out how to post to Instagram from a computer. The answer came in a two-step process that allows me to add the photos to Dropbox and then share to Instagram from there.

Basically, I take the photos on my DSLR camera and upload them from the SD card to my Dropbox account. Then, I open the Dropbox mobile app on my phone and upload the photo to Instagram from there.

Dropbox has been my go-to-method for uploading photos from my PC or Mac to Instagram

This worked for a few years, allowing me to upload to Instagram from a computer, but the downside is it doesn’t  allow you to reply to comments in any way. Boo.

Solution #2 – HootSuite to Instagram

After using Dropbox for a few years, Hootsuite came out with their Instagram integration. I gave it a try and laid out the process of using Hootsuite to upload photos to Instagram from your desktop in this follow-up article.

I used Hootsuite to post photos to Instagram for a while, but it was kind of awkward to get to work.

Again, kind of cludgy and not the best user experience and still no way to manage responses to comments.

Solution #3 – The Web For Instagram Chrome Extension

One of my readers mentioned this Chrome Extension to me as an option to BOTH upload photos to Instagram from your desktop AND reply to comments.

Naturally, since this is the goal that I was seeking I HAD to give it a try.

And I wasn’t let down.

The folks at OinkAndStuff (I know…funny name) have put together an OUTSTANDING Chrome Extension that gives you a true Instagram experience through a mini Chrome browser.

  • Upload photos directly from your desktop to Instagram – CHECK
  • Reply to a comment using your desktop PC or Mac keyboard – CHECK
  • Browse Instagram and comment on photos from my desktop – CHECK
  • Watch Instagram stories on my desktop – CHECK

Basically, you can do almost everything via their Instagram Chrome extension that you can do in the Instagram mobile app.

About the only thing I have found that I wish I could do is apply a filter when uploading and edit my photo caption to a photo I have already posted. Overall, though, I give it a 9 out of 10.

So, here’s what you need to know to download, install, and use the Web for Instagram Chrome extension.

Looking for a way to post photos to Instagram directly from your PC or Mac? Here's the solution! Click To Tweet

Downloading and Installing Web for Instagram

First, you need Chrome.

Don’t try to to this with Firefox or Safari. It won’t work. OinkandStuff says they are working on a Firefox extension and I’ll update the post once it is released and I can test it.

To install the extension:

  1. Open Chrome
  2. Navigate to this link to install the extension
  3. On the extension page, click the Add to Chrome button.
  4. In the popup that comes up, click the “Add extension” button to allow Chrome to install the extension.

That’s it. It’s installed.

Using Web for Instagram

Now comes the fun part.

You probably noticed that a new mini-browser popped up on your screen that is title “Instagram”. This is the interface you’ll use to interact with Instagram from your desktop.

Web for Insta will walk you through a short tutorial, showing you what all the buttons do. It’s worth the one minute it takes to fully understand all the buttons.

The intro tutorial helps you understand how to post on Instagram from your laptop.

Once you have walked through the tutorial, you will see the Login screen. Click the button to login and enter your credentials.

NOTE: This app is not storing your Instagram credentials, it’s just giving you a view into Instagram to enter them, using Chrome as the browser.

Click the Log In button and enter your credentials and you’ll be logged in to Instagram, just as if you had visited Instagram.com in your browser.

Once you are logged in, you can see your feed and the stories along the top. You can also use the buttons below to interact with Instagram just like you were using the mobile app.

Can I Post Pictures On Instagram From My Computer?

Definitely! If you click the center button that looks like a plus symbol it will open a window to explore your files and upload a photo directly from your desktop.

I navigated to a photo gallery with images of a photo I was trying to sell.

Click on the photo you want to upload and click the “Open” button and Web for Instagram will walk you through the process of posting the photo to Instagram, just like in the mobile app, complete with cropping and adding a description.

About the only thing that is missing is the ability to add a filter, so if you want to do that you’ll need to stick with the Instagram mobile app.

What About Replying To An Instagram Comment From The Web?

Want to add a comment to an Instagram photo from the browser? This is your extension!!

Just click on any photo in your feed or your profile and click the comment button that looks like a conversation bubble. Instagram will open a field for you to add your comment.

You can even add a comment to an Instagram photo from your desktop using this Chrome extension.

Cool, right?!?

What About Using The Windows Instagram App To Upload Photos From Your Computer?

Well it used to work, although pretty clunky. It appears, however, that Instagram removed the ability to actually add photos using the Windows 10 app from the Microsoft store. You can still login, view photo, like, comment, etc…but they removed the ability to upload photos.

For that reason, I still don’t use the Windows app for Instagram.

So, there you have it. Mystery solved.

We can all finally upload photos from our desktops or laptops to Instagram. I’m looking forward to using this Chrome extension and testing it further.

If you use the extension and like it or hate it, be sure to leave a comment and let me know what works and doesn’t. Be sure to let the developers know on their Chrome extension page so they can get the kudos for the great work or know what could be improved.

Cheers!

How to Manage Instagram Comments (Delete, Pin, and More!)

Since Instagram first stomped on to the social media runway in 2010, the app has gone through a lot of change: from square-only photos to the introduction of Stories and Reels to the hiding and unhiding likes crisis of 2019.

But through it all, comments have remained mostly the same—for over a decade, they’ve stood faithfully (and publicly) below every post. So we’ve had plenty of time to master the art of managing Instagram comments.

Here’s how to do it.

What is an Instagram comment?

An Instagram comment is a response that users can leave on a posted photo, video or Reel. Unlike direct messages (which go to a user’s inbox and can only be viewed by them), Instagram comments are public—so keep that in mind when you’re leaving one.

To leave a comment, tap the speech bubble icon you’ll find on the bottom left of a photo or video, and the lower right side of a Reel.

Why are Instagram comments so important?

We’d like to comment on that. Comments are more than a simple reply: they are an important part of your brand’s perceived authenticity and can affect how often users see your posts.

Comments build community

Comments are the only way that your followers can communicate with you in a public way on Instagram, which can encourage more engagement overall. It’s like the difference between mailing a letter or posting on a bulletin board: the community will see the bulletin board, and that makes them more likely to post something, too. In this post from @house_of_lu, parents connect over the things they sacrificed—and gained—for their children:

Comments are a ranking signal for Instagram’s algorithm

The Instagram algorithm is a complex and somewhat mysterious beast (but we’ve put together a rundown of everything there is to know). In short, the algorithm determines which posts make it to the top of a user’s newsfeed, which posts are featured on the Explore tab and the order that posts, Stories, live videos, and Reels show up across this social media platform.

Comments are one of the many factors that contribute to how often your posts are seen. More comments mean more eyes on your brand, more eyes lead to more followers, and so on.

Comments are a great customer service tool

Here comes that bulletin board analogy again. Comments that ask questions are an excellent tool for customer support: replying to a comment, and other users can see your reply. That way, you won’t get multiple inquiries asking the same thing (but you might get a few, because you know, people).

Comments show potential followers that you’re legit

Buying Instagram followers may seem like a way to make your brand look more reputable (but trust us, it doesn’t work in the long run). And bot followers can’t comment on your posts the same way real people can.

A user that has 17 thousand followers but only 2 or 3 comments on each of their posts doesn’t seem as authentic as a user who has one thousand followers and 20-25 comments on each post.

In other words, don’t buy comments. Consistently receiving high-quality comments from real Instagram users will do more for your account than any number of comments from bots.

How to delete a comment on Instagram

To delete a comment you have made on someone else’s Instagram post, tap on the comment you want to delete and (without taking your finger off the screen) swipe left across the screen. Two options will appear: a grey arrow and a red trash can. Tap the garbage can to delete the comment.

To delete a comment someone else has made on one of your Instagram posts, do the same as above—swipe left on the comment. A grey pushpin, speech bubble and a red trash can will appear. Tap the trash can.

How to pin a comment on Instagram

On your own Instagram account, you can pin up to three of your comments to the top of the comment feed. That way, they’re the first comment people will see when they view your post.

To pin an Instagram comment, swipe left on it, then tap the gray pushpin icon. When you pin your first comment, this screen will appear.

When you pin comments, the person whose comment you pinned will receive a notification.

How to edit a comment on Instagram

Technically, you can’t edit an Instagram comment once you’ve posted it. The easiest way to “edit” a comment you’ve made in error is to delete it and type a new one (start fresh!).

You also can reply to your own comment to edit the phrasing, which is a bit like having a public conversation with yourself. To do this, tap the word Reply under the comment.

How to turn off comments on Instagram

If you don’t want anyone to be able to comment on one of your posts—or one of your posts is getting a lot of comments that you don’t like, and you want to erase them and prevent any more—you can turn off commenting completely.

First, hit the three horizontal dots in the top right corner of the post. From there, a menu rolls up. Select Turn off commenting to stop comments (and make the original comments invisible).

How to limit comments on Instagram

Instead of turning off commenting altogether, you can “limit comments” for a certain amount of time. This is a useful short-term tool if you feel like you or your business is being harassed by multiple people on the app.

To limit comments on Instagram, first go to your profile and tap the three horizontal lines in the top right corner. From there, hit Settings. Then, tap Privacy. From there, go to Limits.

From the limits page, Instagram allows you to temporarily control unwanted comments and messages. You can limit accounts that aren’t following you (“These accounts may be spam, fake or created to harass you” according to Instagram) as well as ones that only began following you in the last week.

You have the option to set the limit for as little as one day, or for as long as four weeks.

How to block comments on Instagram

If you’re being harassed—or even just generally annoyed—you can block specific users from commenting on your posts. To block comments from certain people, go to your Settings, then Privacy, and tap Comments.

You can type in usernames here, and this will block them from being able to comment on any of your photos, videos or Reels.

How to hide Instagram comments that contain specific words

This is another useful tool for anti-harassment: if you’re getting a lot of comments that contain offensive or hurtful words, you can give Instagram a list of words to not allow on your page. To do this, go into your Settings, then Privacy. From there, tap Hidden Words.

Using the hidden words feature, you can manage a list of words (and even emojis!) that will be automatically be hidden. For example, if Kermit was tiring of public inquiries about his complicated relationship with Miss Piggy, he might want to hide the words “miss piggy” and the pig emoji.

Once you make this list, tap the “back” arrow and turn on Hide Comments. Now, any comments that contain your list of words (or misspellings of those words) will be hidden.

How to hide offensive comments on Instagram

Instagram has its own list of offensive comments (which I’m sure is a delightful read) that you can set to automatically filter out.

To do this, go to Settings > Privacy > Hidden Words, same as the above. Under Offensive Words and Phrases, turn on the Hide Comments toggle and the Advanced Comment Filtering.

Now, comments that Instagram thinks might be offensive will be hidden (which you can go through and unhide, individually).

How to respond to Instagram comments

To respond to an individual Instagram account, just tap Reply under the comment. If you don’t want to reply publicly, you can also respond to a comment by sending the user a private message.

Replying to every message individually can be tricky, though—it’s easy to miss comments if you’re getting a lot of notifications, or to forget about them unless you address them right away.

Using Hootsuite’s Inbox to respond to Instagram comments

Hootsuite’s social media management platform includes a social media inbox that can be used to manage all your comments and DMs on Instagram and beyond. (It works with Instagram comments and replies, direct messages, and story mentions, for Facebook messages and comments, for Twitter direct messages, mentions, and replies and for comments and replies on LinkedIn and Showcase. )

That sounds like a lot. And it is. Which is why the Inbox is so handy: all of your communication with your friends and followers is in one place, so nothing (and no one) gets left behind.

There’s more deets on the Hootsuite Inbox in the Hootsuite Academy.

How to find your comment on Instagram

Because we take in (and react to) so much content every day, it can be easy to forget a comment you made: what you said, who you said it to or what post you said it about. Instead of wracking your brain (or scrolling through the entirety of the app), you can use this trick to locate comments you’ve made recently.

First, go to your profile and tap on those three horizontal lines in the top right corner. From there, hit Your Activity.

Then, go into Interactions. Next, tap Comments.

From there, you’ll be able to see all of the comments you’ve made recently. To filter to a more specific date or time, tap Sort & Filter in the top right corner.

You can also bulk delete comments from this page—just tap Select in the top right corner and you can pick the ones you’d like to delete.

How to get more comments on Instagram

Getting more engagement on any social media app usually comes down to creating authentic, unique content that your audience loves (and some awesome photo editing doesn’t hurt). On the more technical side, you can use Instagram analytics to track your progress and try doing a competitive analysis using a successful account that’s similar to yours.

On the less technical side, here are a few super quick tips for getting comments for your Instagram posts:

Ask a question

It’s simple, and it works. Asking a question in the caption of your photo, video or reel will prompt other users to comment on it. If you’re using your Instagram for business, this could be a question related to your product or just a general ask—for example, “Who else could use a beach day with Barbie?”

Hold a contest or giveaway

Contests or giveaways that take entries by users tagging their friends in the comments work in two ways: you’ll get a lot more comments (people love free stuff!) and each of those comments will actually send a notification to another user who may or may not follow you. In other words, asking followers to tag friends exposes the friends to your brand, as well.

If you collaborate with other brands in your giveaway (like the above post from Lahtt Sauce) you can extend your reach even further: you’ll likely gain new followers from the brands you are partnering with.

Get your followers to tag a friend

Another way to encourage tagging in the comments is to post something that’s relatable and encourage your followers to tag a friend. This post from the TV show Arthur does this simply and beautifully, and generated over 500 comments.

Post helpful advice

Anything that adds value to your followers’ feeds is likely to get some good engagement, so tips, tricks and advice often do well. And even if you’re a business, it’s nice to offer some industry knowledge or insight free of charge every once in a while. How to add a photo to an Instagram comment: 3 ways

Adding a photo to an Instagram comment is not possible through the standard function, because it is not available when writing a response. But there are other ways to add a snapshot.

Table of Contents

  • How to add an image to an Instagram comment
    • Method 1: link
    • Method 2: character generator
    • Method 3: reply to a post
  • 0010

How to add a picture in an Instagram comment

There are at least three atypical ways to add a photo or at least its likeness.

Other users will be able to view the snapshot if:

  • done using the character generator . This option is suitable for funny pictures or jokes;
  • attach link . But in the comments, it will not be clickable, so the recipient will have to rewrite the address.
  • attach a post to your Story . Using the section: "Text editor" add a description and your review;

Only the owner of the page can see the last option. Therefore, if a user adds a comment in a group or wants to send it to a specific person, he will not be able to see it.

Character generators create simple pictures that can be used on a social network. But it should be noted that not all images will be inserted in the same form in which the user created them in the service.

Method 1: using the link

The user will be able to insert a picture into a comment on Instagram using the link. That is, you need to go to the image and copy the address that is located in the address bar. The downside is that Instagram links are not clickable. This means that the recipient will have to retype or copy the review in order to proceed.

How to add a link to a comment:

  1. Go to Instagram - go to comments.
  2. Open the desired image in a tab.
  3. Copy the link from the address bar.
  4. Paste in comment and send.

The address will appear in text format that can be retyped. To make it easier to share a link, personal correspondence is available on Instagram. Or, a section with a profile description.

You can send an active address to another user using Direct. You need to go to the page and select: "Send a message."

Method 2: character generator

Attaching a photo to a comment on Instagram in its original quality will not work, but using a character generator to make a picture or a joke is always possible.

How to create:

  1. Go to the site text-image.ru - select: "Draw with symbols".
  2. In the left field create an image - copy from the second one.
  3. Go to Instagram and insert a picture in the comments.

Also, the site already has pre-created pictures that can be copied. The only drawback that occurs in the social network is the distribution of gaps. For example, one line can be wrapped, which will ruin the entire image.

The second service where you can copy pictures with symbols: fsymbols.

Get images for Instagram:

  1. Follow the link: https://fsymbols.com/en/ascii-kartinki/
  2. Select a picture - right-click and select.
  3. Copy - go to a social network and paste into a comment.

Such images can be viewed by other users, but copying without mods or a computer version will not work.

Method 3: Reply to a post

The last option to post a photo in an Instagram comment is to reply to a post. Under each entry there is an icon in the form of an "airplane", with which you can send in private messages to friends or share in Stories.

Make the answer a photo through History:

  1. Go to the post - click on the "airplane" below.
  2. Select: "My Story" - in the stickers, select: "two images".
  3. Add your picture and text comment.

But only the author of the publication will see such a response. That is, if you need to leave a review for a specific user, copy the nickname and paste it using the “Text” button. In front of the nickname, in order for the mark to be displayed for the desired user, you need to put the “@” sign.

Why Instagram doesn't have the option to add a picture

The social network is designed for different devices, including outdated ones. To make information from publications load faster, only the text message function has been added.

Why there are no pictures in the comments:

  • volume increase per post. It will take longer to load, and some users will not be able to watch at all;
  • minimal moderation. Keeping track of which pictures were sent in comments will be more difficult than just in the entry;
  • no editor for feedback. This is another reason why there are no photos.

But there is a chance that this feature will appear in one of the updates. So, in 2017, the developers reported that the option is at the testing stage. But it was never launched, although it was discussed in the blog and was expected.

Taru Metsämaa, Lumbricus Lupus

Friends. This post is for those who are new to LiveJournal
and who are having difficulty posting a picture in a comment.
There are several ways to put a picture in a comment.
This super helpful post is about it! ;)

I don't write in detail about photo storages that allow you to copy html code right away.
If you use them, you know about it. If you do not use it, then pay attention to
, for example, FLICKR (convenient, lots of space) and Yandex-Fotki (vain).

---------------------------------------- ----

1) Naked-HTML-method

I give the code for the simplest insertion of a picture. Simple HTML is our friend :)

Copy this text from the window, paste
instead of "http://SITE.COM/NAZVANIE_FAILA.jpg"
is the address of the file
lying somewhere on your file storage and you get the picture inserted into the comment.

--------------------------------------

2) Semajik-method

Download program Semagic ( here - http://semagic.sourceforge.net/index_en.html ),
log in and always use its functionality in addition to writing posts in Livejournal
also in order to take codes for inserting links or pictures in comments,
where there is no such built-in capability.

I do :)

-------------------------------- -- ----

3) Instagram ways

0144 take links to the photo. It's just completely. Go to http://iconosquare.com/viewer.php#/myPhotos/list ,
right-click on the photo, select "Copy image address",
well, paste the image address into the html code that I gave above in window.

--------------------------------------

Same there is a secret how to add a picture directly from the instagram, taking it from the site :)

Let's go to create a new LJ post: http://www.livejournal. com/update.bml .
At the same time, go to instagram http://instagram.com to your account - there we poke
into your chosen photo and copy the link from above in the browser.
Then, in creating a LJ post, select a sort of square with a triangle - "INSERT MEDIA"
and paste the code from instagram there. We copy it entirely from the text editor
and paste it into any comment in Livejournal.

--------------------------------------

Happy sepu ! :)

But I will give the fuck to dig into the code :) It’s easier for me to make less than the body and take a link from the statigram)

Oh, one to one, like in chrome. By the way, right there in the highlighted gray fragment - link to the picture))
