WhatsApp's latest features show up in the beta app a month before they're rolled out to the general public. If you want to be the first to try out the latest WhatsApp features, here's how to download the WhatsApp beta app.

  • Level up: Google Pixel 3a XL ($420 at Amazon)

Usually, it takes about a month for a new feature to make its way from the beta client over to the public build. That was the case with the dark mode, and any new feature or UI change that WhatsApp is planning on rolling out will make its way to the beta channel first. If you're unwilling to wait for a particular feature to go live in the public channel, you can always download the beta app.

WhatsApp runs an official beta program on the Play Store , but that has been full for over a year and isn't taking new beta testers. Your best option instead is to sideload the latest beta APK and install the app. I'll show you how to do that below, but before you start you will have to back up your WhatsApp messages and media so that if something untoward occurs, you don't lose your chats.

Backed up your messages to Google Drive? Here's how you can sideload the latest WhatsApp for Android beta:

  1. Open Google Chrome or any web browser on your phone.
  2. Type apkmirror.com.
  3. Hit the Search box on the top right corner.

  1. You'll need to allow Chrome to install apps. Tap Settings to get started.
  2. Toggle Allow from this source to On to continue the installation.
  3. Tap Install to install the latest version of WhatsApp beta.

Once you're done installing WhatsApp, make sure you disable the setting that allows Chrome to install unknown apps. Go to Settings -> Apps & notifications -> Special app access -> Install unknown apps -> Chrome -> Toggle the setting to off.

If you ever feel like you don't want to be on the beta channel, all you need to do is uninstall the app and just download the official WhatsApp client from the Play Store .

The Pixel 3a XL has a lot going for it, but its defining feature is the camera at the back. Google has somehow managed to offer a flagship-class camera on a phone that costs half as much as high-end phones, making the 3a XL a fantastic bargain.

How to install the beta version of WhatsApp on a computer

WhatsApp has long been one of the top messaging apps on the web. Since the application is very often used in the workplace, I often had to see its web version in the offices of different companies. Many users use it only as a mobile messenger and do not suspect at all that it has a version for Mac computers and not only. The other day there was information that the team of the popular WhatsApp messenger opened a beta testing program for computer versions. Zuckerberg's team has long been beta testing apps for iOS and Android, allowing new features to be tested before they are released to the general public. And now, for the first time, a beta version of the desktop application has been presented, which is available to all users.

WhatsApp launches Mac beta testing.

The green messenger has a number of shortcomings, due to which it is not possible for me to use it as my main messaging application. And earlier, to the main of them, I attributed cross-platform. Each time it was necessary to go to the Whatsapp Web site, scan the QR code, and only then enter the application. There is a well-known alternative that solves these problems. But with every update, Whatsapp is trying to make the app better, and the latest news about the launch of the desktop app only confirms this.

Colleagues write: Apple has firmly decided to release an iPhone with Touch ID under the screen. But not this year.

What's changed in the new beta version of WhatsApp

There are not many changes in the beta version of the desktop application. The new version 2.2133.1 of WhatsApp only includes the function for recording voice messages so far. Now, before sending any voice message, it is possible to listen to it in advance. Finally! Voice messages have long been firmly entrenched in our lives, and this feature seems to me extremely important in 2021.

In order to evaluate this feature, you need to click on the voice message recording icon, and then click on the new Stop icon, which is located next to the send email button. Yes, it's that simple. The new feature works stably, no lags were noticed in it during the day of active correspondence.

A new WhatsApp feature allows you to listen to messages before sending them.

By the way, I heard from many users that sending voice messages is bad manners, and it is highly discouraged to do this at work. What do you think? Be sure to share your opinion in our Telegram chat. I hope that together we will be able to give a final answer.

In the future, the developers also plan to launch the ability to use the desktop version without using a smartphone, as well as bring support for the application for the iPad. Earlier, my colleague Ivan Kuznetsov already talked about the version for the iPad and expressed his bewilderment about the lack of an application for the iPad now. It is clear that initially new versions and chips will be available only to developers. But the prospects for Whatsapp now seem more real to me than it was before, when the application did not stand up to scrutiny. Let's see what awaits us in the new updates.

Why you can't use WhatsApp on a computer without a phone

Every time you access Whatsapp on your computer, the program asks you for a QR code. But why can't you do without it? It's all about end-to-end encryption. The fact is that this type of encryption involves storing the decryption key on the sender's device and the recipient's device, which means that third-party access to correspondence is simply impossible. The so-called end to end technology allows you to protect your correspondence from intruders and has found wide application not only in Watsapp, but also in secret Telegram chats. And the Signal app generally uses it by default and bears the unofficial title of "The most secure messenger."
