If you’re looking to cut all possible ties with Facebook and have already deleted your Facebook account, follow along for how to delete your Instagram account. We’ll also cover how to temporarily disable your account if you’re on the fence.
Whether it’s the latest news about Facebook’s controversial practices or you’ve been considering breaking up the with social media monopoly for a while, it’s straight forward and easy to delete your Instagram account (keep in mind Facebook owns WhatsApp in addition to Instagram).
Note that you can’t delete Instagram from the iPhone app. We’ve also included how to temporarily disable your account below.
How to delete your Instagram account
- Head to Instagram’s delete account page on a Mac or PC and log in
- Enter a reason for why you’re leaving Instagram
- Enter your password and click Permanently delete my account

How to Delete Your Instagram Account
Instagram now allows you to delete your account from directly within the Instagram app. This article shows you how it's done.
To comply with Apple's updated App Store guidelines, Instagram in June 2022 added an option in its app for users to delete their account on the service.
Previously it was only possible to delete your Instagram account by logging into a web browser on a desktop browser or mobile device. However, Apple told developers that apps offering account creation must also support account deletion from June 30, 2022, so Instagram had to add the feature.
If you want to delete your account, be aware that account deletion is permanent and it removes your profile, photos, videos, comments, likes, and followers.
That said, there is a 30-day period in which you can change your mind about deleting your account, so you can log back into Instagram after requesting deletion if you want to stop the deletion.
Note that instead of deleting your account, you could always deactivate your Instagram account temporarily, and all of your content will be hidden until your enable it again by logging back in.
Here are the steps to deleting (or deactivating) your Instagram account on iPhone.
- Launch the Instagram app.
- Tap the profile icon in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap the three lines in the top-right corner.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Account.
- Tap Delete account near the bottom of the menu.
- Confirm by tapping Delete Account (or Deactivate Account).

On this page, you will need to select the reason why you are deleting your Instagram account. Once you have chosen a reason, you will have to re-enter your password. After that you can click on the red tab below that says Delete my account permanently .
Method #2. Temporarily deleting your Instagram account
It is important for you to know that if you temporarily disable your Instagram account, your profile, photos and comments will be hidden until you reactivate your account.
If for some reason you just want to temporarily delete your Instagram account, the steps below will show you how.
Step 1. Go to the Instagram website.
You will not be able to temporarily delete your Instagram account from the app. You will need to go to their website. You will need to log in from there. So, type in Instagram.com in any browser and wait for the website to launch. Once you see it, log in with your credentials.
Step 2. Go to your profile page.
Go to your profile page. From there, you can edit your profile. Just look for Edit Profile tab and click on it.
Step 3. Temporarily disable your account
After you click on the "Edit Profile" tab, you will be taken to another page where you can edit your profile. Scroll down this page until you see Temporarily disable my account . You will see it at the bottom of the page.
Then click on it.
Step 4: Choose a reason for deleting
You will be taken to another page where you will need to select the reason why you are temporarily deleting your account. Once you've chosen a reason, enter your password and click on the tab that says "Temporarily disable account." You will see this tab at the bottom of the page. Your account will be disabled, but you can still get your data back if you log in.
Method #3. Disabling an Instagram account due to inactivity and violating 9 terms0117
This next method may not work for you, but it is also a way to disable your Instagram account. Take a look at the steps below to learn how to disable your Instagram account by being inactive or violating the terms of service.
Step 1: Stop Posting
You can simply stop posting on Instagram. Over time, Instagram will disable your account.
