The cons of deleting your Facebook account
Deleting your Facebook account can certainly feel liberating. You don’t have to worry about managing your privacy or consuming seemingly endless social media content. But rather than a permanent deletion, some people prefer to take a break from Facebook by deactivating their account for the following reasons:
- You won't be able to access Facebook again unless you create a new account.
- It’s impossible to use Messenger without a Facebook account.
- Some accounts that you entered through Facebook Login may malfunction. You may need to contact those apps and websites or create new accounts.
- You’ll permanently lose your data unless you download a copy.
- You’ll lose your app purchases, achievements, and more related to your Facebook login on Oculus.
Can you undelete Facebook if you change your mind?
Facebook says that it needs up to 90 days from the start of the deletion request to remove everything you've posted permanently. It may even keep some data in backup storage for legal issues as part of its data policy. It also offers a 30-day grace period after you erase your account. Here is how to cancel your account deletion within 30 days:
- Log in to your Facebook account.
- Hit Cancel Deletion.
Deactivating your Facebook account
Deactivating your Facebook is a temporary measure. After you deactivate your account, your Facebook page, including your intro, photos, friends, and posts, is hidden. No one can send you friend requests either. However, your messages are still visible to their recipients. Here are some advantages of deactivating your Facebook instead of deleting it:
- Your photos, videos, and posts are hidden but not permanently deleted.
- Facebook Messenger is still fully accessible.
- You can still access accounts through Facebook Login.
- You can reactivate Facebook whenever you please by logging in.

How to Delete Your Facebook Account on Android
By Alvin Wanjala
If you no longer want to use Facebook, you can deactivate or delete your account on your phone. Here's how to do it on Android.
Facebook can be a major time-waster. One way to get control of your time is by using the digital wellbeing tools available on Android to set timers for the Facebook app. But if that's not working, another option is deleting your Facebook account for good.
Here's how to delete your Facebook account on your Android phone.
What's the Difference Between Deactivating and Deleting Your Facebook Account?
Facebook gives you two options if you want to take time off the platform. You can either deactivate your account or delete it. These are not the same. Deactivating your Facebook account means you can still log in whenever you wish.
If you deactivate your account, people won't be able to find you on Facebook since your profile will be disabled. Also, Facebook will deactivate any of your Pages if you are the only administrator.
Additionally, although your name and photo will be removed, not all information will be hidden. For instance, messages you've sent and your name in a person's Friends list will still be visible. Furthermore, your personal data like posts, photos, and videos will remain intact.
On the other hand, account deletion is when you wish to leave Facebook for good. Instead of undergoing the painful process of deleting your Facebook posts and other data, account deletion does that in a single step. But, if you change your mind later and wish to come back, you'll have to create a new account. Plus, if you run a page as the sole administrator, it will also be deleted.
What to Do Before Deleting Your Facebook Account
Deleting your Facebook account will purge your profile from the company's servers for good. With that in mind, you need to do several things first before tapping that Delete button. The first thing you should do is download your data.
If you've frequently been using Facebook for an extended period, you probably have lots of personal data on the platform like messages, Stories, photos, videos, and more. The good news is that you can download your entire Facebook history using the platform's data download tool.
Once you have a copy of your Facebook data, the next step is to check which third-party apps are linked to your account. Since these apps use your Facebook credentials to log you in, it's essential to add a different way to access your accounts. You can check which apps are linked to your Facebook account on Android with the following steps:
- Tap the hamburger menu (the three horizontal lines) in the top right.
- Scroll down and select Settings & privacy.
- Next, tap Settings and scroll down to the Permissions section.
- Here, tap Apps and websites to see all the services connected to your account.

Next, you should add an email and a password as a login option to each of these connected services to avoid losing access to your accounts.
How to Delete Your Facebook Account on Mobile
Once you've gone through the two key steps above, you can safely delete your Facebook account. Deleting a Facebook account on Android is straightforward. Here's how:
- Tap the hamburger menu in the top right.
- Scroll down and go to Settings & privacy > Settings.
- Under the Account section, select Personal and account information.
- Next, tap Account ownership and control > Deactivation and deletion.

- Select Delete account, then tap the Continue to account deletion button.
- Select a reason for your deletion first, or tap Continue to account deletion to skip.
- The account deletion page will show you what you stand to lose if you delete your account. Read through to ensure you're okay with that, then tap Delete Account.
- Enter your Facebook password and select Continue > Delete Account to finish.

Facebook will schedule your account for deletion and email you about the same. The platform gives you a grace period of 30 days within which you can log in, thus canceling the scheduled deletion.
Don't log in for the next 30 days if you're done with Facebook. Despite that, Facebook says it can take up to 90 days from the start of the deletion process to delete all the information you've shared permanently. However, don't fret; your information will not be accessible to other users during the entire process.
Once you've deleted your Facebook account, the next step is to uninstall the app. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to remove unwanted Android apps.
How to Deactivate Your Facebook Account on Android
If the risk that comes with deleting your Facebook account isn't worth it, here's how to deactivate it instead:
- Tap the hamburger menu in the top right.
- Scroll down and go to Settings & privacy > Settings.
- Select Personal and account information > Account ownership and control.
- Tap Deactivation and deletion, then select Deactivate account > Continue to Account Deactivation.
- Enter your Facebook password, then tap Continue. Next, select a reason for deactivating and tap Continue. Facebook will show you different information on the next page, depending on your reason.
- Select Continue > Deactivate My Account to finish.

You will instantly be logged out. You can reactivate your account by simply signing in once more.
Ditch Facebook Forever
Facebook is one of the most popular social media platforms. However, you can ditch the platform forever by deleting your account instead of being embroiled in the company's endless privacy and security issues. Deleting your Facebook account on Android is straightforward if you follow the above-mentioned steps.
But before doing so, you should download your history and add different login methods for apps and websites that use your Facebook credentials. You can also deactivate your account temporarily if you wish to return later.

Facebook has launched a new feature for Ukrainians: hiding a profile from strangers
Ukrinform
The social network Facebook has given Ukrainian users the opportunity to hide their profiles from people who are not their friends.
According to Ukrinform, Nathaniel Gleicher, Head of the Facebook Security Policy Department, announced this on Twitter. nine0005
“This is a tool for people in Ukraine that allows you to close an account with one click, quickly applying existing and new privacy settings. When a profile is closed, people who are not friends will not be able to upload or share profile photos or see feed posts,” Gleicher said.
According to him, this feature was first launched in Afghanistan in the summer of 2021.
To close your profile, click the three-dot symbol below the profile owner's name, then click Close Profile. When a window opens asking you to confirm the action, click the "Close profile" button again. nine0005
Gleicher added that Facebook has also set up a special center to respond to the war in Ukraine. In response to the unfolding military conflict in Ukraine, we have created a Special Operations Center for real-time response. It employs experts - including native speakers - which allows us to monitor the situation and respond as quickly as possible,” said Facebook's head of policy.
As Ukrinform reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine on February 24 and launched an invasion of the country. nine0005
