How to appear invisible on whatsapp

How to Hide Your Online Status on WhatsApp

  • You can hide online status on WhatsApp — known as Last Seen — in your Privacy settings.
  • Choose whether only your contacts or nobody should see your Last Seen status.
  • You can also choose to exclude certain people from seeing your Last Seen status.

If you use WhatsApp regularly, chances are you've spotted the login status next to the name of some of your contacts.

Though WhatsApp makes your online status visible to everyone by default, you can easily change it.

WhatsApp online status

WhatsApp online status allows users to see the last time their contacts were active on the platform and whether they are currently using the app.

When someone is online, it doesn't necessarily mean they've seen your message — it simply means they're currently using the app.

Last Seen refers to the last time the person used WhatsApp and also doesn't mean that they have seen your most recent message. The only way to tell if someone has seen your message is the blue check marks beside the message.

If you don't want your WhatsApp contacts to know your Last Seen or online status, you can easily hide your status from everyone, make it available to only your contacts, or exclude certain contacts from seeing it through the app's settings.

Note: When you hide your own WhatsApp online status, you also can't view other people's statuses.

The steps to hide your Last Seen or online status on Whatsapp are simple:

1. Open WhatsApp on your phone and head to the settings.

2. Open the account settings, and then head to the privacy settings.

3. Go to the Last Seen settings.

4. Tap either My Contacts, My Contacts Except, or Nobody to choose how you want to hide your Last Seen status.

Here's the full guide on how to hide your online status on WhatsApp.

7. Once you've made a selection, your online or Last Seen status will be visible to just your contacts, no one at all, or the contacts you didn't exclude, depending on your selection.

How to appear offline on WhatsApp without disconnecting!

Almost every messaging or social media app has tools to let your contacts and followers know all the moments where you’re online. Of course, this can be extremely useful very frequently, but it is very understandable that many users want to be more discreet and appear offline on WhatsApp, for instance.

Luckily, there are many different options, especially for those who want to hide online status on WhatsApp, even with the internet on and while they’re using the app.

You can check out exactly all the steps you need to take to be able to use WhatsApp with a bit more privacy in our tips down below!

Index of this article

How to appear offline on WhatsApp

As we mentioned previously, there are a few things you can do to make WhatsApp offline. This is true both for general usage of the app, so as to avoid other people from knowing you’re currently online or when was the last time you used the app, and for some other activities.

For instance, you can choose to not show when you’ve read a message and no longer show status updates. Of course, all of these are individual and optional choices, which you can alter at any moment.

This is of great help for those who only want to appear offline on WhatsApp at some moments in their daily lives.

Change the “Last seen” option

To start off our tips we wilçl talk about how you can change the “Last Seen” option. This is the one that tells all your contacts when was the last time you use WhatsApp or even if you’re currently online.

If you want to appear offline on WhatsApp, this is the most important option to play with. To do so, click on the three vertical dots on the top right side of the screen and go to “Settings”.

Next, click on the “Account” option.

To proceed, you must then go to the “Privacy” option in the next menu.

There, you’ll see many of the options we’ll be using throughout this tutorial. For now, you just need to press on “Last seen”.

From the options, you have to, then, choose the “Nobody” option, which is what will make you appear to be offline on WhatsApp.

As we’ve mentioned, you can change this at will, whenever you want your contacts to be able to see that you’re online (or not). It is worth mentioning that by turning this option off, you won’t be able to see when was the last time your contacts were online, either.

Turn off Read receipts

Next up, well’ show you just how easy it is to make it so that your contacts can’t know when you read one of their messages. Currently, if the read receipts are turned on, two blue checkmarks are shown under the message to show that you’ve read it.

To change this, go to the “Privacy” menu again and look for the “Read receipts” option.

All you have to do is to click on the button by the side of this option to turn it off anytime you need. It can also be changed up at will, just like any of the other options.

As is expected, when you turn this option off, you won’t be able to know when anyone has read your messages either. All you’ll be able to see is whether the messages reached their recipients.

Hide your Status

Finally, another thing you can do to try to appear offline on WhatsApp to the best of your abilities is hiding your Status updates. This is a good thing for those who like to update it frequently, but don’t want it to be seen by everyone at any moment.

To prevent someone from seeing your current Status, go back to the “Privacy” tab, and look for the “Status” option.

Next, you’ll see a window where you can select how you want your status to be shared. “My contacts” will show it to everyone, “My contacts except…” will show it to all your contacts except for the ones you select, and “Only share with” will let you select the people you want to see it.

Pretty simple, isn’t it? And remember, this is yet another option you can share whenever you want.

Follow our instructions and no one will know where you are and when you last accessed WhatsApp.

Do you want to hide from annoying contacts and pretend that you are offline? Then turn off the visibility of the time of the last visit to WhatsApp. Even better, if you hide your geolocation, then you and your data will definitely remain private.

Turn off WhatsApp time

If you don't want people in your contact list to see when you were last online, simply turn off Time to visit on your smartphone. Here's how to do it.

  • Launch the WhatsApp app and open Settings.
  • Tap "Account" and select "Privacy".
  • Enter the "Time of visit" subsection and select the "No one" option. If this setting is enabled, none of your WhatsApp contacts will be able to see when you were last online.

Hide WhatsApp location

An even more effective way to protect your privacy is to send incorrect location data via WhatsApp.

  • To provide a digital alibi, first turn off the Google location service in your smartphone's location tracking settings.
  • Go to Settings, go to Developer Options, and turn on Allow Mock Locations.
  • Install an application that allows you to manipulate location settings, such as My Fake Location.
  • Find in the application the place with the coordinates of which you want to replace your location, set the icon to it and in My Fake Location tap the "Set GPS Location" button.
  • Open WhatsApp and tap the paperclip to send an attachment. Now, when you select the "Location" item, the messenger will send fake coordinates set by the application.

Life hack: put WhatsApp contacts on the main screen

Even if you have a lot of people in your WhatsApp contact list, most of the time you communicate with only a few of them. You can avoid constantly looking for people in your contact list by moving the icons of important people to the home screen of your Android smartphone.

To do this, open the menu in a chat with the corresponding person and select "More | Add icon to screen. Shortly thereafter, Android will notify you that the corresponding chat icon has been added to the home screen. In the future, you can start chatting with your favorite interlocutors with a touch of your finger.
