It's probably time to purge your Facebook friends list. This guide will help you cut out negativity, oversharing, and random work "friends" from 2008.

If you finding yourself wondering: When did I friend that guy? Do I even know that woman? Do I really need to see everything from my niece’s best friend’s boyfriend’s mother’s brother? We’re here for you.

Social media can be a great way to learn, share, and interact with people you know and extended networks of people you don’t. On the other hand, social media can provide a perfect platform for arguments, oversharing, and noise. Facebook is an especially poignant example right now, though many of the things you may have heard about Facebook aren’t accurate.

Sometimes the friends you have on Facebook can have opinions that you’d rather not see. While they have every right to voice their opinion, you also have every right to decide to remove them from your News Feed for your own peace of mind. You have two options: either unfriend them or unfollow them. We’ll show you how to do both, in bulk, in only a few seconds.

Facebook on desktop

Method 1: Unfriend entirely
  1. Enter your username and password to log on to Facebook.
  2. Click on your profile (the icon with your name next to it) to get to your page
  3. On the bar in the middle of the page, click on the tab that says “Friends.”

  4. Locate a friend (or more!) you’d like to remove and click on the “Friends” button.
  5. In the dropdown menu, select “Unfriend.”
  6. Repeat step 5. You can use the filters to find your oldest friends, newest friends, or friends from different eras, workplaces, and school environments.

Method 2: Adjust who you “see first” and “follow” to clear up your News Feed.
  1. Enter your username and password to log on to Facebook.
  2. Scroll to the left-hand side and click on the small downward-facing arrow to open the drop-down menu

  3.  Select “News Feed Preferences” on the drop-down
  4.  If you’re not looking to delete friends, but instead show your closest friends and family first, select “Prioritize who to see first” and select groups or people to have shown at the very top of your News Feed each day.
  5. Or, if you’d like to unfollow groups, pages, or individuals in bulk, select “Unfollow people and groups to hide their posts.” This does not require unfriending but allows you to not have their new posts clog up your News Feed.

These tips are great, but make sure all this free news feed space isn’t turning you into a dreaded Facebook oversharer.

Facebook on mobile devices

Method 1: Unfriend entirely
  1. Enter your username and password to log on to Facebook.
  2.  Select the set of three lines on the bottom right navigation bar.
  3. Select “Friends.”
  4.  Once viewing all your friends, select the three dots on the right-hand side of any friend you’d like to unfriend/delete.
  5.  Select “Unfriend,” or “Unfollow” if you would like to still be friends but not see their posts on your News Feed.
  6.  Repeat steps 4 and 5 for any unwanted friends.

Method 2: Adjust who you “see first” and “follow” to clear up your News Feed.
  1. Enter your username and password to log on to Facebook.
  2.  Select the set of three lines on the bottom right navigation bar.
  3.  Scroll down to a drop-down menu of “Settings and Privacy” and click on “Your Time On Facebook”
  4.  Select “News Feed Preferences”
  5.  If you want to make sure you see your closest friends and family first, select “Prioritize who to see first” and select those users.
  6. If you want to unfollow groups, people, or pages so you no longer see their content on your News Feed, select “Unfollow people to hide their posts.

We hope this guide helped give you some peace during your social media binges. Make sure to take a peek at these other Facebook tips and secrets to get even more out of the site.

How to Delete All Facebook Data

It’s no secret that your Facebook account gathers a lot of information about you. Even when you deactivate your account temporarily, it’s still there. Sadly, there’s no way to keep an account and delete all the data, but you can bulk-delete posts, activities, and more.

In this article, you’ll learn how to delete your Facebook account and learn how to bulk-delete posts, activities, tags, interactions, post archives, search history, watched video history, and voice interactions. What you can’t bulk-delete is profile information, Groups, Communities, Events, Reels, and friend request activities. Both lists are non-exhaustive, meaning there may be more to each one.

How to Completely Delete Your Facebook Account

Deleting your Facebook account is the only true way to completely delete everything from your profile. However, Facebook still holds onto some log data from your account. Regardless, you and every other Facebook user cannot see anything related to your profile anymore. Another thing to consider is if you had other accounts associated with Facebook, such as Pinterest, Spotify, Instagram, etc. You’d have to contact those third-party apps to regain access. In that case, you may want to delete data manually as much as you can—more on that process later.

Here’s how to permanently delete your Facebook account.

  1. On Facebook, click on your profile picture in the top-right section, then choose Settings & Privacy.
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Select Your Facebook Information on the left.
  4. Choose Deactivation and Deletion.
  5. Click on Delete Account, then select Continue to Account Deletion.
  6. Click on Delete Account once more, then type your password and select Continue.

You have up to 30 days from the deletion request to log back in and reactivate your Facebook account. After that, it is gone forever. It can take Facebook up to 90 days to delete everything from your account, but nobody can see it.

Facebook Data Deletion FAQs

How can I save my Facebook data first?

To save your Facebook data, you need to go to the settings and then find the option to download your information. The process can take a long time, but eventually, you’ll be able to access it all from your PC. The steps can be found above.

What data does Facebook collect?

Here’s a list of some of the information Facebook collects about you.

· IP addresses

Yes, Facebook collects your IP addresses, from your home address to the free Wi-Fi you used during your vacation in Japan. All of it is as clear as day to anyone who can find it, though normal users can’t. However, the staff and malicious hackers can always access your IP addresses.

· The advertisements that caught your eye

If you click on an advertisement that stood out, Facebook will take note of it and recommend similar ones. This is done to “improve” the app experience but can also be used to build a profile of you if someone had the information.

· Political preferences

If you click on political advertisements often enough, the app will also recommend content based on your political views. In addition, placing that on your “About Me” section is another way Facebook tracks you.

· Your actions

Facebook tracks every move you make, including your likes, search history, and changes to your profile. All of that is part of the history you can find on your profile too.

· Financial data

If you use Facebook to buy and sell, the company will obviously have your credit card information in the records. Even donations aren’t immune, and you might talk about your finances on Facebook too. All that goes into the digital docket about you.

· Your device data

This includes the browser, phone type, operating system, and so much more. While this information can help Facebook improve the platform, people with malicious intentions can always steal the data and harm you with it.

How can I just stop Facebook from collecting data?

One easy way is to turn off tracking your Off-Facebook activity. Here’s how:

1. Log into Facebook.

2. Go to the Settings menu.

3. Select Your Facebook Information.

4. Choose Off-Facebook Activity.

5. Select Manage Off-Facebook Activity.

6. Clear your history.

7. Select Manage Future Activity and toggle the option off.

This isn’t a complete fix, but it can prevent targeted advertisements better. You won’t be searching for shoes on Chrome and then suddenly see corresponding advertisements on your timeline.

What Does Facebook Do With Your Data?

Facebook has been known to use your data to:

• Recommend events around you by tracking

• Target advertisements according to your interests

• Recommend friends

• Share it with other companies.

• Build a digital profile based on your provided information

And there are many other ways Facebook uses the data it collected. These are just the most obvious ways that you should be aware of.

How to delete friends from Facebook - quickly and permanently

Owning a personal account on Facebook, it is important to know that the list of friends is not limitless. The network administration limited it to 5,000 people. Upon reaching this number, you will not be able to replenish the list. There are several ways to get around the restriction:

  • open a subscription to your profile;
  • start a profile-based page;
  • Remove some users from the list.

This article will focus on deleting friends from Facebook on a computer and in a mobile application.

Content:

  • Why delete friends
  • Friends Removing through the site
    • Removing through the user profile
    • Removing through your personal profile
  • Removing friends through mobile application
  • Removing several friends

Why remove friends

Registering on a social network and gradually promoting their account, at first users happily add everyone to their friends list. They strive to be friends with as many people as possible, because profile ratings and the frequency of display of publications depend on this parameter. But quantity does not always mean quality. When the list of friends approaches its limit, account owners realize that they no longer need random people. Their logic is clear: these users are simply on the friend list, hindering the further development of the profile.

The main reasons for removing from the list of friends:

  • unnecessary people interfere with adding friends who will definitely become part of the target audience;
  • people, although they are your friends, do not interact with you and do not view new publications in their news feed;
  • If there is no activity from friends (no reactions, comments and reposts), Facebook automatically lowers the ratings of new posts.

You should try to add as friends people who are interested in the direction of your public.

Such users will help the development and promotion of the account on the network. "Dead souls" do not bring any benefit. If you have finally decided on a global cleaning of the friend list, then consider removing a person from your Facebook contact list in different ways and on different devices.

Advice : If you're wondering how to hide your friends list from being seen by strangers, you don't need to delete anyone. It is enough to change the privacy settings by making the appropriate mark. Then only you will be able to view the list of friends.

Removing friends via the site

In the web version, it is possible to remove a person from friends in two ways.

Deletion via user profile

  1. Open the profile of the person you need (click on his name in the news feed or find the profile through the search bar).

  1. Click on the "Friends" button under the cover photo.
  2. Select the line "Delete".

Deletion via your personal profile

  1. Enter your profile by clicking on the avatar.
  2. Go to the "Friends" tab.

  1. Click on the button of the same name, which is located in front of each person.

  1. Select the line "Remove from friends".

If you remove someone from your friend list, then you don't need to worry that the person will find out about your actions. The system does not send any notifications about this, and the person will not even guess that he has been excluded from the list of friends.

Loading a friend list on a computer usually takes longer than in the mobile version. If your contact list is approaching the limit, then scrolling through it completely will not be easy. For this reason, you need to switch to the mobile version of Facebook. To do this, open the address bar and replace the letters "www" with "m" or go to the site through a smartphone.

Deleting friends through the mobile application

The interface and the list of functions in the mobile application have been brought as close as possible to the computer version, but there are still some differences. Let's take a closer look at how the deletion of friends on Facebook from a smartphone or tablet goes:

  1. Log in to the application using your credentials.
  2. Go to your profile by touching your avatar.

  1. Open the "Friends" section.

  1. Click on the “…” icon next to the person's name.
  2. Select the line "Remove from friends".

In the same menu, you can block a person - he will not be able to write to you, send a friend request or leave comments under your posts. There is also another option here - cancel the subscription. Clicking on it will save the person to your friends list, but their posts will not appear in your news feed.

Advice : If you have any doubts about permanently removing a person from your friend list, look at the history of interaction with him on Facebook. To do this, open the user profile, click on the "More .. ." button and select the "View friendship" line.

The Facebook Help Center describes the most time-consuming way to delete friends.

The process of removing friends is mutual. After you remove someone, you yourself will disappear from his list.

To prevent people you don't want to chat with from trying to become friends again, you need to block them.

If you are going to remove hundreds or even thousands of friends from the list, then the proposed method is unlikely to work. Special extensions can help, but there are nuances.

How to delete friends in bulk using the extension?

Developers offer dozens of programs for mass removal of friends from Facebook. In Russia, the most popular utilities for Google Chrome. Extensions can be downloaded from the browser's online store.

The next step is to enter the "Friends" section, where you can find three dots in front of each in the list. When you click on them, the proposal "Remove from friends" will appear. The friend will be removed from the list immediately, without confirmation.

With this method, it can take no more than two hours to delete about 1000 friends.

How to sort friends correctly so that you don't have to delete them again?

Adding everyone as a friend on Facebook is not the best way to become popular. To clean up your feed, experienced network users are advised to adhere to the following regular rules:

  • delete all friends without photos
  • delete friends who do not have their own friends or there are very few of them
  • delete people you don't know
  • analyze daily "bells" about birthdays
