Facebook is one of the most commonly used social networking websites where thousands of millions of people interact with one another. You can have Friends, friends of friends and more, sometimes people who don’t know each other find a way of contacting each other through the search tab for Facebook.
While finding friends on Facebook has been made easier by this search tab, however, there are many Facebook users who don’t like getting friend requests from anyone and everyone and would prefer their profiles never being found by strangers or even friends of friends.
As a result of the numerous requests, you often get fed up and wonder if you could stop people looking for you using your name, email address or number. Well yes, you can. Facebook allows its users to keep their profile hidden if anyone searches for their name on the Facebook search bar. This is a setting which can be accessed from your Facebook account. You can control the people who can look for you on Facebook through this amazing feature. Follow the steps as mentioned to change the current settings of your profile.
Here, you will find the tab for settings. That is what you need to click on from the dropdown list of options.
Click on that.Privacy settings can be accessed through these settings along with some more general settings for your accountThis is where you will find the next option for controlling who can find you on Facebook.
To change ‘who can look you up…’ fields for your Facebook account, simply click on the Edit tab in front of these options. This will lead you to a tab, where you can choose either of the three options that appear after you click on the downward facing arrow.
The first option which is ‘Everyone’, if selected, then anyone who is on Facebook, whether you know them or not, will be able to search your name in Facebooks search bar. The other two options limit the search for everyone to friends of friends, or just friends, which is slightly better than being found by random people. So choose the option that suits you the best. The suggested setting, if you don’t want anyone except your current friend list to find you in the search bar, would be the third option, i.e. ‘Friends’. No one, other than your friends can look for you in the search bar using your name or your email address.
This confirms that the setting for this specific option has been changed.
This will keep your privacy settings intact.
Not being found on Facebook is something many people prefer. The reasons for this are various. For instance, you don’t want your friends to know you are on Facebook, or you don’t want to add anyone from your family on Facebook and it would be best if they could not find you on Facebook.
Facebook keeps upgrading the privacy settings for the security of our accounts. And to make sure that our settings are just as we wanted, we need to keep a regular check on the changes that are being made on daily, weekly or monthly basis.

According to a Fusion reporter, a man who recently attended an anonymous meeting of his parents found himself on his "You May Know Them" list on Facebook on the next day of one of the participants in the meeting.
At the same time, the two parents did not exchange any information, including phone numbers: the only thing that united them was that their smartphones were in a certain place at a certain time. Later, going into the settings of his account on the social network, the man found that he had the location tracking function turned on (there was an "Always" icon). nine0003
A spokesperson for the service told the publication that the "You May Know Them" selection is based on various factors. Facebook stressed that the service could not operate solely by relying on general location, but noted that "geolocation is one of the factors" on which a list of possible friends is compiled.
In 2014, a journalist from The Huffington Post described another curious case. All of a sudden, his "You May Know Them" column began showing him exes he could only spend one night with. According to the journalist himself, the reason could be that he does not clean his phone book on his smartphone and the Facebook application simply got access to it.
At the same time, there was talk that the social network could exchange information with the dating applications Tinder or Grindr (both are famous for being used for fleeting meetings), but the company subsequently denied the information that it transmits user data to these programs. nine0003
In any case, a selection of people you met once can also evoke negative emotions. A similar situation with unwanted memories is also associated with another resonant feature of Facebook - "On This Day", which has been repeatedly accused of the company's algorithms showing not what users expect to see (for example, tragic events of the past).
Facebook does not disclose how its algorithms work to display "You may know them". The support page only states the obvious:
Users, based on their experience, describe other situations:
Facebook analyzes all the information that the user specifies: these are the data, for example, that are filled in the profile. Further, the social network monitors the behavior of the user - what kind of people he is looking for, what pages he clicks on - and looks for the relationship between them. Once Facebook recognizes the social component, it can predict not only the people that the user may know, but also the people that he will know in the future, writes The Washington Post.
Facebook itself emphasizes that they periodically update the selection algorithms in order to "make it better." nine0003
First of all, you need to adjust your account settings. Great attention should be paid to the headings "Privacy" and "Advertising" (the collected metadata is used to display targeted advertising). In "Who can find me?" it is better to select the "Friends" option everywhere. You should also prevent search engines outside of Facebook from finding your profile (put "No").
The same should be done in the "Advertising" section. nine0003
In the application itself, you need to go to the geolocation settings, where you should specify "Never". If you disable this feature, in particular, it will not be possible to search for "Friends Nearby" - one of the services offered by the social network.
Facebook recently expanded its Audience Network service for advertisers: now data is collected not only about users registered on the social network, but also about those who do not have an account in it.
