5 Apps for Adding Audio to Your Instagram Posts

Have you ever wondered how to add audio to your Instagram posts?

Unfortunately, Instagram doesn’t offer an “audio” format, which makes it difficult to share and promote audio snippets from your podcast. Enter: Instagram audiograms.

Thanks to the help of some creative apps, you can now turn audio recordings like podcasts into stylish video clips on Instagram, complete with transcriptions! We’re looking at 5 great apps for adding audio to your Instagram posts:

Why Add Audio to Your Instagram Posts?

Podcasting in 2020 is bigger than ever! But as the space gets more crowded, the need to effectively market your podcast is also bigger than ever.

Unfortunately, podcasters are at somewhat of a disadvantage when it comes to visual-first channels like Instagram.

As Mitzi Payne, co-host of Waves Social Podcast, wrote in our guide to promoting podcasts, “It’s hard to market a podcast as a tangible brand — there’s nothing to look at or experience in the same way you normally would, there’s not much to buy into other than ideas, thoughts, and inspiration.

Yet a lot of podcasters are doing really well on Instagram! They’re building large and engaged audiences, reaching new subscribers… and they’re finding really creative ways to do it!

One great example is the use of audiograms on Instagram — a growing trend among podcasters!

Audiograms allow you to share interesting audio snippets from your podcast, so they’re great for reaching new audiences and subscribers.

In case you’re unaware, an audiogram is a graph that charts sound frequencies in real-time — like the one we shared above.

These kinds of posts do really well because they’re visually engaging, dynamic, and they allow users to check out the podcast without having to leave the Instagram app.

Wondering how you can create your own audiograms Instagram? Here are 5 apps for adding audio to your Instagram posts:

#1: Wavve

Wavve is a desktop app that lets you turn your podcast audio into engaging animated videos for social media. You can create audiograms, add subtitles that play along with your video (which lets your audience enjoy your content with or without sound), and make a ton of customizations.

As far as audiogram-makers go, the ability to customize the look of your post is really key. As great as audiograms are for promoting your podcasts, they shouldn’t stand out in your feed or feel out of place. This goes back to the importance of building a cohesive Instagram feed and aesthetic.

Check out this example Later’s Instagram account:

How to get started with Wavve:

Once you create your Wavve account, find and select the green “Create your own” button. You can select your video dimensions, whether it’s horizontal, square, or vertical, upload a background image, and choose a waveform (the style of your audiogram).

The next step is to upload your audio and add captions. Wavve actually integrates with Zubtitle to let you add captions to your audio, so all you have to do is click “Create Transcript” and it will automatically generate the transcript for you.

Once you’re done, click “Finish” to download the video!

How to get it: Wavve has a free plan, which lets you create 1 minute of audiograms for free each month. If you need more than that, you can purchase one of their paid plans, starting at $10/month.

#2: Headliner

While Headliner markets itself as the best way to promote your podcast, it feels more like a general video editing tool. You can use it to create audiograms, transcribe audio and video, add text animations, and a lot more — and not just for social! The app also lets you export full-length videos (2 hours max) to YouTube.

But we love it for Instagram! Headliner’s audiograms look great and they’re really easy to make.

Finally, download your audiogram and get ready to share!

How to get it: Headliner’s free plan lets you create up to 10 videos per month, but you can also splurge for a Pro or Enterprise account, starting at $12.95/mo.

How to get started with Audiogram:

Once you create your account, the first step is to upload your audio — you can do this by either manually uploading the audio or you can use Audiogram’s Apple Podcasts integration to select audio from an already-published podcast.

Next, trim your audio clip and click “Create Audiogram” to select the kind of audiogram you’d like to create, whether it’s captioned (an animated caption that plays with your audio) or traditional (this lets you feature a title instead of playable captions).

If you select the captioned option, Audiogram will automatically transcribe your clip for you. You can then edit the transcription and timing.

Finally, select a template and add design elements using Audiogram’s visual editor. Once you’re finished, click “Export.”

How to get it: Audiogram’s free plan lets you publish up to 2 videos per month without charge, but they come watermarked. To publish more videos (without a watermark), you’ll need to upgrade to their Pro or Elite plans, starting at $19/mo.

#5: Podcast.co

Podcast.co is more of a podcasting platform, with tools for launching, distributing, and growing your podcast. But you can also use Podcast.co to create gorgeous audiograms that look great!

The next step is to trim your audio (again, as we mentioned above, it’s best to keep your audiogram relatively short if you’re sharing to Instagram) and then enable the “Audio Transcription” option to have Podcast.co automatically transcribe your audio.

Finally, edit your transcription for clarity, add fade-ins and fade-outs, text, and voilá, you’re all set to export your audiogram!

How to add music to Instagram video posts, Stories, and Reels

It’s not enough these days to just post a photo on Instagram and call it a day. But with so many creative editing features — both within the app and through third-party tools — the only way to stand out from the masses is to give your content a little pizzazz. And one of the best ways to do that is by adding music. Read on to find out how to add music to an Instagram video, with and without apps.

Where to get music for Instagram videos

Before we dive into where to find cool music and background beats for your Instagram posts and Stories, it’s important to note that Instagram will ban any videos that are posted with non-licensed music.

If you’re posting a video to your Instagram Stories, you can use Instagram’s in-app music library, which we’ll dive into later, but if you’re posting a video to your feed, you’ll have to double-check where its music comes from. You should also always credit the artist when using their work.

Below, we’ve listed a few options for getting music that’s legal to use and won’t land you in Instagram jail.

How to delete duplicate photos on your iPhone

Your iTunes Library

It might surprise you to learn that the best place to find music to add to your Instagram videos is your iTunes library. After all, you can purchase and download any song you like and easily add it to your video using an app like VideoSound. Once you’ve downloaded the song of your choice, you can use an Instagram video editor app to overlay it on top of the video you’re posting.

Purchasing an audio track on iTunes, however, doesn’t guarantee that your music video won’t be banned by Instagram; just because you’ve bought an audio track through iTunes doesn’t mean you have the license to use it in a video. According to Instagram’s guidelines, “the greater the number of full-length recorded tracks in a video, the more likely it may be limited. ” Therefore, shorter music clips are recommended versus longer tracks.

Audio Jungle

If you don’t want to go through your iTunes Library — and would prefer a cheaper way to find some good tunes — check out AudioJungle. It has a wide selection of royalty-free music that you can easily download starting at just $1 a track.

Incompetech

Another good website for finding royalty-free music is Incompetech, which allows you to browse genres like mystery, electronic, and modern cinematic, to find the perfect background song for your Instagram video. And while there are tracks available for purchase, many songs on the site are available for free.

How to add music to an Instagram post

Unlike Stories, there is no in-app music feature currently available for Instagram posts. So if you want to add a cool track to your new video, you’ll need to use a third-party app prior to publishing.

How to add music to a video post with Tempo

Tempo is a free video editing app with cool filters and transitions effects, plus a music library full of free, licensed music you can add to your videos. Here’s how to use Tempo to add a track to your Instagram video post:

  1. Open the Tempo app.
  2. Press the video button on the top-right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap the video button at the top-left of the screen.
  4. Select the clips you wish to use.
  5. Tap the orange check mark.
  6. Press the music button at the bottom of the screen.
  7. Open the music library.
  8. Navigate to the song you wish to use.
  9. Tap Use.
  10. Select the audio underneath to trim or edit it. (You’ll need to make sure your video is less than 60 seconds long to post to your Instagram feed.)
  11. Press Save and select your export size.
  12. Press the Instagram button to share to Instagram.
  13. Select Open.
  14. Select Post.
  15. Publish your Instagram post.

Tempo is free to download and use for a three-day trial, but after that, you have to sign up for a paid subscription to access its features.

How to add music to an Instagram post using Add Background Music To Video

Another app that allows you to add background music to your Instagram videos is a highly useful tool with a self-explanatory name: Add Background Music To Video. While this app doesn’t have a massive library of songs for you to choose from, it is free to use and is compatible with iTunes or any other library of MP3 files you have downloaded.

Here’s how to use it:

  1. Open Add Background Music To Video.
  2. Press Start.
  3. Select the video or videos you want to use.
  4. Press Next at the top-right corner.
  5. Give your video a project name and select the Square aspect ratio.
  6. Tap Create at the top-right of the screen.
  7. Press Music at the bottom of the screen.
  8. Choose one of the free tracks or import your music.
  9. Add any other edits to your video, including trimming it down to under 60 seconds.
  10. Press the share button at the top-right of the screen.
  11. Select your resolution and press Save.
  12. Open Instagram.
  13. Tap the + icon at the bottom-center of the screen.
  14. Select Post.
  15. Choose your video and publish it as you normally would.

How to post a music video on Instagram using TikTok

Another way you can add some music to your Instagram feed is by sharing a music video you’ve created on TikTok.

If you’re not already familiar with this app, TikTok is a video sharing platform originally designed for sharing lip-sync videos. It’s free to download and use, and it has a massive library of licensed sounds and songs you can add to your videos. The app allows you to record a full video in a single take or in bite-sized snippets. Plus, you have the option to upload an existing video from your Camera Roll.

Here’s how to create a TikTok video and share it on Instagram:

  1. Open the TikTok app.
  2. Tap the + icon at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Press the Sounds button at the top-center of the screen.
  4. Navigate and search for the song you want to use.
  5. Select the song and press the red check mark that appears to add it to your video.
  6. Press the record button to record your video.
  7. Tap the check mark when you’ve finished recording.
  8. Add any effects, texts, or filters and press Next at the bottom-right of the screen.
  9. Fill out your caption and press Post at the bottom-right of the screen.
  10. Go to your newly published TikTok video and press Share.
  11. Select the Instagram icon.
  12. Press Feed.
  13. Publish your Instagram post as you normally would.

How to post a music video on Instagram Stories

Adding music to your Stories is a lot simpler than it is to add music to a post, thanks to Instagram’s in-app music feature. With the Stories music feature, you can browse thousands of popular commercially licensed songs to accompany your video.

How to add music to a video Story on Instagram

Here’s how to add music to your video on Stories with the Instagram music sticker:

  1. Open the Instagram app.
  2. Tap the + icon at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Select Story.
  4. Either shoot a new video with the Stories Camera or swipe up to upload a video from your Camera Roll.
  5. Press the sticker button at the top of the screen.
  6. Select the music sticker.
  7. Navigate to the song you wish to use and select it to add it to your video.
  8. Press the different text options at the bottom of the screen to choose how you want your music to be displayed.
  9. Tap Done at the top-right of the screen.
  10. Choose Your Story at the bottom-left of the screen to publish your video to your Stories.

Why can’t I find the music sticker on Instagram Story?

If you can’t find the music sticker, that means the option is not available in your country as of yet. You won’t be able to add a music sticker to your own Story or to play music on somebody else’s Story. What you can do to access that feature is to use a VPN app like ClearVPN. ClearVPN has a shortcut specifically for unlocking the Instagram music feature, so you just hit that and go back to posting your Story.

How to put music on an Instagram video using Add Background Music To Video

The app Add Background Music To Video can also be used to add music to Stories. If you don’t want to use the music sticker, just follow these instructions to create a video with music for your Stories:

  1. Open Add Background Music To Video.
  2. Press Start.
  3. Select the video or videos you want to use.
  4. Press Next at the top-right corner.
  5. Give your video a project name and select the Square aspect ratio.
  6. Press Create at the top-right of the screen.
  7. Press Music at the bottom of the screen.
  8. Choose from one of the free tracks or import your music.
  9. Add any other edits to your video, including trimming it down to under 60 seconds.
  10. Press the share button at the top-right of the screen.
  11. Select your resolution and press Save.
  12. Open Instagram.
  13. Tap the + icon at the bottom-center of the screen.
  14. Select Story.
  15. Publish your Stories as you normally would.

How to post a music video to Stories using TikTok

You can also post your TikTok videos to your Instagram Stories. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Open the TikTok app.
  2. Tap the + icon at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Press the Sounds button at the top-center of the screen.
  4. Navigate and search for the song you want to use.
  5. Select it and press the red check mark that appears to add it to your video.
  6. Press the record button to record your video.
  7. Press the check mark when you’ve finished recording.
  8. Add any effects, texts, or filters and press Next at the bottom-right of the screen.
  9. Fill out your caption and press Post at the bottom-right of the screen.
  10. Go to your newly published TikTok video and press Share.
  11. Select the Instagram Stories icon.
  12. Press Your Story at the bottom-left of the screen to publish your video to your Stories.

How to add music to an Instagram Reel video

Reels are similar to TikTok videos in that many accounts use them for lip-syncing content. The same songs available to Stories are available to Reel videos. No matter how you choose to format your Reel video, adding music to it is very simple. Here’s how:

  1. Open your Instagram app.
  2. Tap the + icon at the bottom-center of the screen.
  3. Select Reels.
  4. Either record a new Reel video or swipe up to upload a video from your Camera Roll.
  5. Press Add at the top-right of the screen. Repeat this process to add as many clips as you want (up to 15 seconds).
  6. Press the music icon at the left-center of the screen.
  7. Navigate to the song you wish to use and tap it to add it to your video.
  8. Choose the part of the song you want to use for your video.
  9. Tap the white arrow at the bottom of the screen.
  10. Press Share To.
  11. Either select to post the Reel to your Feed or your Stories.
  12. Press Share.

For most Instagram content, you can add whatever kind of song you want to your video within the app. But if you’re looking to get creative with your audio, a third-party app works just as well. Either way, your video will get the extra dose of creativity it needs to stand out for your followers.

Music in Stories, short videos and replies with songs: Instagram will launch new features in Russia

  • Technology

Instagram has announced the launch of new features in Russia. Users will have access to a TikTok-like Reels video service and a music sticker in Stories. With it, you can add music to your stories and answer questions with songs. Russian Facebook users will be able to pin it in the profile header so that it plays when the page is opened

Starting June 23, Russian Instagram users will begin accessing Reels, a platform for short videos, the company said.

With Reels, you can shoot and edit videos up to 30 seconds long, apply AR effects to them, and use the green screen effect to change the background. In Reels, you can add music from the app's library or choose from trends or recommendations. Users will also be able to create their own original audio, and if their account is public, other users will be able to use this audio in their videos.

Video created using the new feature can be published in the Stories or Post format, optionally limiting the audience. Facebook and Instagram are also launching a new music sticker in Stories. To add music to your Stories, you will need to follow these steps:

  • open the camera in the application, select a photo or video from the gallery, click on the sticker icon and select the Music sticker;
  • find any song from the library, select a fragment, add the name of the artist and the name of the song. If the composition has lyrics, it will automatically appear on the screen;
  • Click on a sticker to change the text style and animation. The sticker can be moved, rotated and resized.

With the release of the music sticker, Instagram and Facebook users will be able to answer questions in Stories with songs. In addition, Facebook users will be able to add their favorite track to the Hobbies / Interests section and pin it to the profile header - it will be played every time someone decides to visit this user's profile.

“Reinventing TikTok is unlikely to succeed”: what’s wrong with YouTube and Facebook’s short video services

Instagram began to roll out the Reels feature around the world in an attempt to attract the TikTok audience. In Russia, the short video format is gaining popularity - VKontakte is already developing its own clone of TikTok - the service is called Clips. In addition, in the fall of 2020, the head of the Ministry of Education, Sergey Kravtsov, announced joint plans with Mail.ru Group to develop an educational network for Russian schoolchildren, similar to TikTok.

There are several options for a computer on how to make an interesting video and post it.

Ways to create an interesting video:

  • done with computer programs;
  • use online services.

Among the PC programs, you can choose standard ones, like Windows Editor, or turn to more extensive software. In the second case, there are functions for choosing a design, adding elements and your own music. But before adding an audio track, the user must edit it.

The option with online services is no less useful - the PC owner does not need to install third-party applications, fill up the computer's memory. But there is a drawback with the number of options and the capabilities of the selected site.

Method 1: VSDC

VSDC with a free license is suitable for working with audio files. With its help, the user can add a new audio track and correct the old one.

How to add music to video on Instagram:

  1. Download and install VSDC.
  2. Press: " New project ".
  3. At the bottom, next to the add window, three icons will appear: Video, Music and Photo.

After creation, the user just needs to transfer the file to a mobile device in order to post it on Instagram.

Method 2: Online services with sounds

To make a video sequence with audio without using paid programs, you need to go to the Clideo service and select: "Upload video". The advantage of the site is in the number of formats it works with: MP4, AVI, GIF.

  1. Go to Clideo - click: "Download video".
  2. Wait for the clip to be loaded.
  3. Select from the side: "Add Audio" - select a track on the computer.
  4. Specify a track on the computer - mark the desired volume, cut if necessary.
  5. A button will appear below: "Format" - MP4.

Next, the edited entry must be downloaded to a computer and published on Instagram. After uploading the main file, the user can add pictures in different formats. It is also possible to create a slideshow by adding up to ten images.

Method 3: Movavi

Movavi is suitable for standard editing of video clips and creating them on a computer. The functions include:

  • change the playback speed;
  • making short videos;
  • working with individual effects and transitions.

You can download and install from the link through the official website. There is a free subscription for the first 30 days.

How to edit:

  1. Download and install the program.
  2. Open - go to the creation of a new project.
  3. Add images to the view bar - click on the icon below: "Audio".
  4. Record audio using a microphone or add from a computer.
  5. Save the project in the desired format.

The author can choose the size and type of the file. For example, if you want to place a publication in Stories, it must specify an aspect ratio of 16:9.

Smartphone apps

There are several mobile apps available for mobile devices where you can add an audio track. For example, InShot and Filmore Go. In the settings, you can add a ringtone from your device or use the standard ones.

Standard iMovie is also available on iOS mobile devices. It also opens the option to add an audio track selected from the device's storage.

Other apps to help you add songs:

  • Magistro. You can add an effect, select music and additional frames;
  • Adobe Premiere Clip. Working with layers, separate settings for audio effects;
  • UniVideo. Adds filters and animations, internal music library.

The first two are considered standard when editing. With their help, the user will be able to decorate and make more interesting, even a presentation with photos.

For Android

Filmora Go is suitable for Android smartphones.

Instructions on how to add a song and video:

  1. Download and install Filmora Go.
  2. Press: "Create a new video" - select the desired one from the Gallery.
  3. Bottom: " Add " - Next .
  4. In the sidebar: "Music" - select from internal storage.
  5. Press: " Save " as soon as the project is ready.

On the temporary track, you can specify the duration of the audio: adjust to the length of the video or select a specific segment. Through the editing tools, add filters or other processing elements.

For iPhone

InShot is available for iOS devices (also available for Android). In the application, it is possible to add audio that is already built into the application. Several albums of songs without copyright can be found in the catalog. Also, getting music from the storage works.

  1. Download and install InShot.
  2. Select: " Create a new project " - select the required one from the list of available videos.
  3. Scroll through the list of instruments - Music.
  4. Select from available audios - specify the duration.
  5. Click on the top: " Save " - select the quality.

When finished, the created clip can be shared on a social network by clicking on the Instagram icon.

Add via screen recording

One way to add music to an Instagram video is to take a screenshot. You need to enable the application that has this feature and indicate that audio recording should also be enabled.

Make a screen recording via Mobizen:

  1. Go to the Play Market - enter the name in the search.
  2. Select: "Mobizen" - install.
  3. Open - go to settings.
  4. Item: "Sound" - External.
  5. Enable - start recording.

After installation, the automatic sound recording function is enabled. Therefore, the user can only allow access to the microphone and internal storage. At the end of the recording, the clip will appear in the smartphone's Gallery, and after that it can be posted on Instagram.

But the music tracks that will be recorded in this way are also checked by the social network. Therefore, it is not recommended to use popular or recent compositions.

Upload music to Instagram via Tik Tok

A non-standard way to make a clip with music is to upload it using Tik Tok. The second social network has a button: "Share" and the ability to send a post to Instagram Stories or Feed.

How to make a video using Tik Tok:

  1. Download the social network and log in.
  2. Go to video recording - select an effect.
  3. Top: "Music" - specify the track to be attached.
  4. Specify duration: "15 seconds".
  5. Share - save to smartphone or share via appropriate function.

If the user selects "Download", then the video file will be on the smartphone with a watermark: nickname and icon of the social network where it was created.

Publication and copyright

Instagram has a copyright to use someone else's intellectual property. When posting a video, the user must remember: the musical composition should not be popular or well-known.

Copyright requirements:

  • the audio composition must not be owned by any label or record company;
  • the author can edit the entry or use remixes;
  • Main parts of the song, such as the chorus, cannot be used in videos without first editing them;
  • it is not recommended to use popular tracks.

To solve this problem, tracks without AP that are in VK or available on SoundCloud will do.

For a quick solution - the InShot application, with embedding of unlicensed tracks.

Adding music to Instagram videos is possible through third-party applications. Also, the user can turn it on in the background, but the quality of this will be significantly lower.
