WhatsApp has finally launched a new feature called Mute Video which was under beta testing earlier. WABetaInfo blog had said that certain users using the app’s beta version received the feature via beta v2.21.3.13 update.

WhatsApp took to Twitter to announce that the new Mute Video feature will be available for Android users.

The feature basically allows users to mute a video before sending it to their contact.

“For your eyes, not your ears. You can now mute the audio on your videos before adding them to your Status or sending in chat. Now available on Android,” WhatsApp tweet reads.

The new Mute Video feature is available on the video-editing screen and a new volume icon pops up under the seek bar, by clicking on which will mute the outgoing video. The feature will be of great help to those users who want to share their videos without any audio disturbance in the background.

Currently, it is only available on Android and there is no information on when it will be available on iOS.

Here are the simple steps you can follow to remove the unwanted screeching audio file from your video.

STEP 1: First up, open the WhatsApp app on Google Play Store and click the update option (in case the automatic download option is turned on then the app should already receive the update)

STEP 3: The Mute Video feature is available both for individual chat and Status mode.

STEP 4: To make use of the new mute video feature, record a video (either on chat tile or Status)

STEP 5: Once you are done recording, you will see a volume icon at the top left corner, tap on it to mute video and you are all set to send the soundless outgoing video to the respective recipient.

It was last month when WABetaInfo, a popular website that pushes regular updates around new WhatsApp features, reported that WhatsApp started rolling out a new feature for its beta testers on Android. For those unaware of what exactly this feature does, it basically allows you to turn down the audio on videos before forwarding it to another person.

This is great for times when you only want to share the video with others and don’t want them listening to the audio. Before this feature, people had to rely on other third-party video editing apps to mute the audio in the videos before sending it off.

🤫For your eyes, not your ears. You can now mute the audio on your videos before adding them to your Status or sending in chat. Now available on Android.

Now, in case you’re wondering how to use this new feature, it’s super simple, just follow these steps:

-- On Google Play Store, search WhatsApp, and then select the update option. This will download the newly released feature on your app.

-- After the WhatsApp update is done, open the app on your device. Now, on the app, you’ll be able to find this feature on chat and status mode.

-- Now, record a new video or choose a video from your photo library to test out the WhatsApp mute video feature. You can do this either on chat or on status.

-- After selecting/recording the video, you’ll notice a volume icon at the top left corner. Once you click on the icon, it’ll mute the video.

-- And Voila! The video is now on mute!

WhatsApp is constantly pushing out new features to ramp up the overall user experience on its app. It has been reported that WhatsApp is also working on a feature called “mention badge” for group chats and can be used to tag people within a group.

What happens when you disable someone on WhatsApp

Everyone uses WhatsApp. Perhaps this explains why the instant messaging platform is sometimes not enough. Unsolicited texts, spam messages, and excessive group messages are a common threat that many WhatsApp users have to deal with. Luckily, WhatsApp's mute feature allows you to take a break when conversations get frustrating.

When WhatsApp notifications are distracting, turning off conversations will help you focus. In this article, we will guide you on how to disable WhatsApp notifications, what happens when you disable someone on WhatsApp, and other related prompts.

Table of Contents

What is WhatsApp Mute

WhatsApp comes with two types of Mute features:

Mute notifications for individual or group chats and Mute status for . We will introduce you to both and their differences.

What happens when you turn off WhatsApp chat notifications

By default, WhatsApp sends a push notification with an audio alert every time you receive a text from an individual or group chat. However, when you mute someone, WhatsApp will mute notifications for subsequent texts received in the conversation.

Let's say you have muted your cousin Simon who constantly sends you offensive texts and memes on WhatsApp. Simon will still be able to send you messages, contact you via voice or video calls, and view your status updates. The only thing that has changed is that WhatsApp will not notify you in real time; you will only see Simon's messages when you open the app.

During mute, you will see a crossed-out speaker icon next to the contact or group name.

What happens when you mute WhatsApp status

When you press the mute button on a status update, WhatsApp does not send subsequent updates from that particular contact to the Recent updates queue. You can still view the status without sound, but you will need to scroll all the way down to the Disabled Updates section in the status tab.

Silent conversations are not 100% effective

Disabling private chat will only disable messages, not calls. If someone calls you on WhatsApp with the sound muted, your phone will ring and you will receive a notification. In muted group chats, you will receive a notification when a member mentions you or sends a reply to your message(s).

Mute chat vs. Disable status

"Disable notifications for chats" and "Disable for status updates" are two completely different features and should not be confused with others. It's also worth noting that they are mutually exclusive; Muting a contact's conversation will not disable their status updates. Also, muting the sound when updating a contact's status will not disable text notifications.

Don't want to receive text and status notifications from a contact at the same time? You will need to individually mute them to talk to them in the Chats section and turn off their status updates in the Status tab.

Silently mute

When you mute a contact's conversation or status update, it's your secret to keep. WhatsApp will not notify the other party that you have muted the sound. Similarly, you can't tell if someone has muted you. The same goes for group chats. No one in the group, not even the administrator, will know that you have muted the group.

The difference between muting and blocking on WhatsApp

Muting WhatsApp is like muting your TV. All components of the TV will remain operational, except for the speakers. You can still watch content, change channels, and do other things, but the noise doesn't distract you. On the other hand, blocking a contact on WhatsApp is like turning off the TV. This turns off all components of the TV.

Mute vs. Block: for private or individual chats

When you block a contact (or unknown number) on WhatsApp, their texts and voice messages are not delivered to you. They also cannot contact you via voice or video calls. This is because, just like when you turned off the TV, you have turned off all points of direct communication with the person.

In addition, they cannot view your status updates, profile picture, and online information (online status and last seen time). Blocking someone on WhatsApp also means you can't contact that person via text or call, and you won't be able to see their status updates unless you unblock them.

Mute WhatsApp is a personal matter. This feature ONLY turns off message notifications on your device, and that's it. WhatsApp will notify the muted contact of your messages, unless they have muted you.

Mute vs. Block: for group chats

While WhatsApp allows you to mute both private and group chats, you can only block private chats. Leaving a group is the closest alternative to blocking a group.

Turn off distractions

In general, muting a WhatsApp conversation only affects the delivery of text notifications. You can think of it as Do Not Disturb for whatsapp. It disables all alerts for private or group chats for a specified period. That's all.

There is no limit on the number of chats or groups you can turn off in WhatsApp. However, if you feel the need to mute a few conversations, or everyone in your chat list (which is very difficult), turning off WhatsApp notifications in your device's settings is an easier alternative.

For iOS go to Settings > Notifications > WhatsApp and turn off Allow notifications .

For Android go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > WhatsApp > Notifications and set the option to Off .

If you don't want to block someone on WhatsApp, muting them is the best thing you can do. Please note that muting or blocking someone on WhatsApp is limited to the app only. Disabled or blocked contacts can still reach you through cellular calls, SMS, or other messaging platforms.

No sound on whatsapp (whatsapp)

Problem: “Whatsapp notification sound is not working on my iPhone. It's strange, but I no longer receive notification sounds from WhatsApp. And the problem only occurs with WhatsApp. Other apps like SMS messages still have notification tones. Try restarting your phone. but still no luck. Any suggestion? ”

Solution: Whatsapp notification sound not working issue occurs not only on iPhone, but also on Android devices such as Samsung, OnePlus, LG. Some lost notification tones after whatsapp or software update; others have a problem because the custom notification tone doesn't work on their phones. Here we have 7 solutions to resolve WhatsApp notification sound not working on iPhone, Samsung and other devices.

1. Make sure the device is not turned off

You can press the volume up button to increase the volume to see if it makes sense. For the iPhone, check if the Ring / Silent switch is turned on (usually next to the volume key). If the switch is glowing orange, your iPhone is in silent mode and you should put it into ring mode.

2. Make sure WhatsApp Sound is turned on

Of course, you won't get a notification sound from WhatsApp if the sound is muted. To check if the notification sound is enabled, follow these steps:

STEP 1: Go to the WhatsApp homepage;

STEP 2. Go to Settings > Notifications;

STEP 3: Check the tones if they are not already checked;

You can also click "Reset Notification Settings" to reset your WhatsApp notification settings to the default state.

3. Check your iPhone / Android notification settings

If you have allowed WhatsApp notification but you still can't hear the sound, you can check your phone's notification settings.

  • As for iPhone users, you need to go to Settings > Notifications first. Find whatsapp in notification style and tap it. Finally, click the Allow Notification button until it turns green. Also enable the Sound button.
  • As for Android phone users, you can go to Settings > Notifications > Manage App Notifications > WhatsApp and enable "Allow Notifications".

4. Log out and log in to your WhatsApp account.

Since WhatsApp does not have a sign out button, we need to sign out by deleting data from your device. To avoid losing your chats, you must first back them up before logging out of your account.

Re-login WhatsApp account on Android

For Android phone, you can follow the instructions step by step.

STEP 1: Go to the home page. Tap Settings > Apps > App Management > WhatsApp.

STEP 2. Click "Clear data" to clear settings and application data.

STEP 3. Go back to the home screen and touch the WhatsApp icon to sign in. Make sure you have entered the correct username and password.

To restore your WhatsApp backup, you need to uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp.

Sign out and WhatsApp on iPhone

For an iOS device, the process will be slightly different because there is no Clear Data icon on an iOS device, so you need to uninstall the app to sign out.

STEP 1: Go to the WhatsApp homepage. Go to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup > Backup Now. Thus, the data will be saved in iCloud.

STEP 2: Go to the main screen. Press and hold the WhatsApp icon until it starts to wiggle. Click the X in the top left corner of the icon to uninstall WhatsApp.

STEP 3: Open the App Store. Whatsapp search. Download and install the app.

STEP 4: Click the WhatsApp icon to go to the login page. Enter the correct username and password to log into your account. After logging in, click "Restore" to restore chat data from iCloud.

Check if the problem is solved, if not, go to the next method.

5. Force stop WhatsApp and restart your phone

Restarting the application will always be an effective way to solve most problems. Try to force stop whatsapp and restart it to see if you can get notification sound for whatsapp.

For Android phone users, here are the steps.

STEP 1: Go to Settings> Applications> Application Management> WhatsApp.

STEP 2: Click Force Stop to close WhatsApp.

STEP 3: Then restart your Android phone. After booting up the phone, check if the issue is resolved.

For an iOS device such as the iPhone, there are different ways to force stop an app, depending on the generation.

  • If you have an iPhone 8 or earlier, double-click the Home button first to see your most recently used apps. Swipe left or right to find WhatsApp and swipe up to close WhatsApp.
  • If you have an iPhone X, you must swipe up from the home screen to see running apps. Also, swipe left or right to find WhatsApp, then you can swipe up the screen or click the red minus symbol to force stop WhatsApp.

Then restart your iPhone.

6. Update WhatsApp

If you don't have the latest version of whatsapp, there might be some bugs, so you'd better update whatsapp to get notification tones back.

If you have an Android phone, you can see the process as listed.

STEP 1: Open the Google Play Store. Press the Menu button in the top left corner and select My Apps.

STEP 2: Find out whatsapp and click on it. Click Accept to update the app.

If you have an iOS device, you should contact the App Store for help.

STEP 1: Open the App Store. Click the Updates icon in the lower right corner.

STEP 2: Go to WhatsApp and click the refresh button next to it. Enter your account ID and password correctly if required.

7. Reinstall WhatsApp

You can reinstall WhatsApp to fix problems. But since reinstalling WhatsApp will delete all your chats, you should back up WhatsApp messages and photos on your phone before reinstalling. If you are using an iPhone and want to back up WhatsApp messages and media files on a computer, you can use iOS Data Backup & Restore, which allows you to restore individual WhatsApp chats instead of the entire chat history.

To reinstall WhatsApp:
