WhatsApp is quite popular for letting people connect with their loved ones. But the instant messaging app isn't limited to text messages, and offers a way to connect you with a group of people either over voice or video. This is useful if you want to speak with multiple contacts at once — may be to discuss something important or just to know their well-being. Group calling on WhatsApp is available across platforms. So no matter whether you have an Android device or an iPhone, you can make group calls. Also, the chat app supports cross-platform group calls, which means you can speak with your friends regardless of the platform they are using.
Introduced back in July 2018, group calling on WhatsApp is an important and useful feature for a large number of people who don't want to understand how other group calling apps like Zoom or Google Duo can be used to make group calls. The ease that the Facebook-owned company offers through its group calling feature is indeed what has attracted various users. You can add a new participant to an existing group call or start a call with multiple members directly from your one of your group chats.
All this shows how group calling is an integral part of WhatsApp. But how can you make a group call? Here's our step-by-step guide on how to make a group call with WhatsApp. This guide provides you with steps for Android and iPhone. We've also distinguished parts to let you understand how you can make a group voice call and group video call with your contacts using WhatsApp. So, let's get started.
Before beginning with the steps, it's important to note that WhatsApp allows group calling with up to four participants at once.
This means that you can't make a group call with more than three of your contacts on WhatsApp on any platform.
Open WhatsApp on your phone.
Tap the Calls tab from the bar that includes tabs for Chats and Status.
Now, hit the call button from the bottom-right corner of the screen.
You'll get a list of contacts with whom you can connect through a WhatsApp call.
Tap the New group call button.
The app will now let you select your contacts from the list with whom you want to speak through a group call. Remember that you can add only three of your contacts for a group call.
Now, you'll see circles of the contacts that you've selected for your group on top of the list.
You can then choose between a video and voice call by tapping the phone and video camera button, respectively.
At any time during the call, you can also add new participants — as long as this is within the limit of four participants — by tapping the contacts icon from the top-right corner of the screen.
You can, of course, add any additional participants to your group call — until the list reaches four participants — by tapping the contacts icon from the top-right corner of the screen.
WhatsApp also lets you make a group call directly from a group on both Android and iPhone. This can be done by following identical steps on both Android and iPhone.
However, the contacts that you want to connect with through a group call need to be in your contact list.
WhatsApp also recently brought an update for the groups that have four or less members. That update made it easier for users to make group calls as it allowed a group audio call simply by tapping the phone button or a group video call by hitting the video camera button — just like how you can make an audio or video call to an individual on WhatsApp.

(Pocket-lint) - Facebook-owned messenger app Whatsapp, allows up to eight people to participate in a group video call.
This feature tells you everything you need to know about making group WhatsApp video calls, which are available on both iOS and Android, as well as the WhatsApp desktop.
WhatsApp has long supported voice and video calls and introduced group video chats in 2018. As we mentioned, you can make a group call with up to eight people simultaneously. Competitors like Google Duo offer up to 32.
Formerly, you needed to start a one-on-one voice or video call like normal on WhatsApp and then add multiple other participants to make it a group call. However, it's much easier nowadays.
It's worth noting that during any video call, you always have the option to turn off your video to revert to a voice call and/or mute your microphone.
To call a group, they need to be an existing WhatsApp group. To make a group, go to the Chats tab and tap 'New Group' at the top your chats.
The group participants need to be in your contacts.
You can also tap the New Chat icon and then select New Group.
After you've created your group, or opened the group of people you want to video call, you'll need to tap the video icon in the top right corner. This will appear if you there are eight people or less in the group. Once you tap that, the group video call will begin.
If the group has more than eight people in it, you'll need to creat a room where you select up to seven other participants for the video call. In the group, tap on the call icon with the "+" in the top right corner and select your participants. If people in the group aren't in your contacts, they won't appear in this list.
Once you have selected your participants, tap the blue video icon - you can also tap the phone icon if you just want voice.
When participants receive a group video call, the incoming call screen shows the participants currently on the call.
If you want to start by placing a one-on-one call, this bit is for you. Just open the chat with the contact you want to voice call, then tap Voice call (phone icon) or Video call (camera icon).
After placing a one-on-one voice or video call, you will see an add participant button in the top right corner in the form of a person icon in a circle with a "+". Tap it to add more contacts to the call.

As a summary, you'll need the below for it to work though:

If you're concerned about your organisation's security, this is a no-brainer.
Now, if you miss a group call when the phone rings, you can still join whenever you want. You can also drop-off and re-join so long as the call is still ongoing.
WhatsApp has also created a call info screen so you can see who is already on the call, and who has been invited but not yet joined. If you simply don't feel like joining a group call, you can always hit "Ignore". But you can still join later, if you change your mind, from the calls tab in WhatsApp.

Group calls are "always end-to-end encrypted," according to WhatsApp. They're also designed to "work reliably" in various network conditions, although we'd ensure you have a strong data signal when you're making group video calls.

WhatsApp is now releasing an update that will allow you to initiate calls directly from group chats of up to four people. Right in the conversation, buttons will appear to start a video or audio call without intermediate steps. WhatsApp says that this feature is not yet available to all users.

- Open the WhatsApp application on your phone.
- As usual, we can make a call via whatsapp and a video call.

- Next, select the contact that we want to add to the group call.
- Confirm the action by clicking on "Add" or "Cancel" if you change your mind.
- Anyone from the group can add a new interlocutor in the same way.
The second method allows you to make group calls from the Calls tab.
- Open the "Calls" tab in the application, which usually shows the latest calls.
- Next, click on the button "New call".

The third way from a group chat, for those who are already in a group.
- Open the Whatsapp group you want to call.

Useful information about WhatsApp group calls.
- During a group video call, you or any other participant can turn off the video by simply clicking on the "Turn off camera" button.
- Please note that the quality of the call or video call will depend on the participant with the weakest internet connection.
- When you receive a group call, you will see "Whatsapp video call" on the screen and the participants who have already joined before.
- You cannot delete a contact participating in a group call, this contact needs to disconnect from the group call on its own.
