Methods to embed Instagram feed widget in WordPress
There are a few different ways to do this, depending on what kind of website you have and what features you want to use.
- WordPress Instagram Feed Plugins (basic option)
- Native Instagram embed code (manual option)
- An Instagram aggregator like EmbedFeed (automatic option)
1. Use Instagram aggregator to embed Instagram feeds without a plugin
EmbedFeed has a plugin, but in our experience, most of the users don’t need to maintain yet another plugin just to paste the code from the platform. That is why the EmbedFeed Instagram Feed for WordPress is designed for users who want to embed the Instagram feed without a plugin.
The platform can also be used externally from WordPress, where users can generate their Instagram posts and create the widget they like. This method is explained in detail below in the post.
2. Use an Instagram feed WordPress plugin
If you’re using WordPress, you can use Instagram WordPress plugins to embed your Instagram feed. One great option is the WP Instagram Widget plugin.
This plugin lets you easily embed your Instagram feed in your site’s sidebar or any other widget area.
3. Use an embed code from Instagram
If you don’t want to use a plugin, you can embed Instagram posts using an embed code from the Instagram app. To do this, go to your Instagram account and find the post that you want to embed. Then click on the three dots in the post’s top right corner and click on “Embed.”
Copy the embed code and paste it into the HTML editor of your WordPress post or page.
Note: The limitation is that you will need to copy all the codes of the separate posts and build the feed. It is not recommended to do this if you need to embed more than 5 posts. In that case, you need an actual Instagram feed plugin or Instagram aggregator to embed multiple posts with one single code.
4. Use a shortcode
Another option for embedding your Instagram feed is to use a shortcode. There are a few different plugins that you can use to generate a shortcode for your feed but manage and customize the feed on an outside platform.
The difference is that the plugin enables only the embedding of a shortcode and is a simple light plugin that doesn’t require you to maintain it regularly. All the updates are done in the outside platform, where you create the widget and get the shortcode.
Basically, the plugin is only needed to use a shortcode for a simple way to embed without the need to paste an entire JavaScript code.
For example, the EmbedSocial WordPress plugin does this.
Once you have installed and activated the plugin, go to your EmbedFeed account and choose Instagram Feed to connect to your Instagram account. After connecting your account, you can configure the plugin settings according to your needs.
After that, you can go to any post or page and use the following shortcode to embed your Instagram feed.
5. Use an oEmbed URL
The fifth and final method we’ll cover is an oEmbed URL. This method is a bit more technical than the other methods, but it’s still pretty easy to do.
An oEmbed URL is a URL that points to a specific Instagram post.
You can query the Instagram oEmbed endpoint to get an Instagram post embedded in HTML and basic metadata to display the post on another website or app. Supports photo, video, Reel, and Guide posts.
Before you start to use oEmbed, your app must undergo App Review for the oEmbed Read feature and provide an access token to a personal account or an Instagram business account.
Here’s an example request and response:
Now that you have the oEmbed URL, you can paste it into any post or page on your WordPress website. When you publish the post or page, WordPress will automatically embed the Instagram post into your content.
Detailed Steps to Embed Instagram Feed in WordPress
Before you start, please note that you can use the EmbedFeed platform with or without a WordPress plugin to embed the Instagram feed for free.
It is directly integrated with the Instagram API, so you won’t need to configure your user id or update access tokens. You will only need to click a button and give your permission to our platform to sync your posts on your WordPress website.
EmbedSocial provides two options: a javascript code to embed it directly in your WordPress post and a plugin for embedding Instagram feeds with a shortcode. The choice is yours on how you want to do this. And below are the instructions for both available options on how to start.
Step 1: Create an Account in EmbedFeed
The first thing to do is to create an EmbedFeed account.
When you log in, you will see a popup window with instructions.
Just click “Let’s get started,” which will navigate you to the Sources section to add connect Instagram account and Instagram as a source.
Step 2: Connect Instagram account
In the Source type screen, select Instagram, and a popup box will appear, asking you to connect to your Facebook account that is connected to your business Instagram account. If you are not logged in, your will need to enter your Instagram credentials. Once the system gets the account in the list, select the account you want to generate posts from.
Please note: In the Source type screen, you have 3 options:
- Instagram account – when you want to fetch the posts from an account that you have access to
- Hashtag – generate posts from a specified hashtag
- Mentions – generate posts that mention a selected account to which you also have access.
When you connect with Facebook, the system is able to pull all the accounts that you have with an Instagram handle. If you have several Instagram accounts that you manage, the system will show all of the accounts.
Select the Instagram account you want to pull the posts from and click Next – as shown below:
Step 3: Choose layout and customize the Instagram widget
Next, choose the layout of the widget Feed or Slider and click on “Create widget,”. You will be redirected to the screen where you can view the code that should be embedded on your website.
In the Widget editor in the ‘Settings’ panel, you can choose the layout,
Step 4: Moderate Instagram feed
In the Widget editor in the “Moderation” tab you can moderate the widget, choose which posts to be shown in your widget, pin posts, etc.
Step 4: Paste the Instagram widget code in WordPress
For this step, you can use 2 codes, a JavaScript code, and a Shortcode. Below we explain how to do both:
Option 1: Paste the Javascript widget code in WordPress
To get the code for your widget, just click Copy code in the top left section of your Settings panel. This is the JavaScript code that you can embed in any WordPress Page or Post.
Next, login to your WordPress account to enter the WordPress admin area and go to Posts or Pages to find the page or post where you want to display the widget. Then follow these steps:
- In the WordPress editor, click the +plus icon and select HTML block
- Paste the code you got from EmbedFeed (see example below)
- In the top right area of the WordPress sidebar, click the Publish button.
Please note: If you use the Classic WordPress version of the editor, you will only need to switch from Visual to HTML editor where you can paste the widget code.
Option 2: Paste the Shortcode in WordPress Shortcode block
As we mentioned, EmbedFeed has a Shortcode that can be used as a simpler version of the JavaScript code.
To find this code, just follow these steps:
- In the top left code area click the “Installation guide” link
- In the popup click ‘WordPress Shortcode’
- And just copy the provided Shortcode (as shown below)
- Go back to WordPress editor, click the + icon choose the Shortcode block
- Now just paste the shortcode.
That’s it, the feed will appear in your post.
Embed Instagram Hashtag feed in WordPress
If you want to embed an Instagram hashtag feed, you can do so by using the EmbedFeed platform. This product again makes it easy to embed all kinds of social media content on your WordPress page, including Instagram hashtags.
To get started, first create a free trial account and follow these steps:
- Go to Sources and select Instagram
- Select the Instagram hashtag option and type the hashtag, and click Next
- Select the widget layout and click Create widget
- To embed the widget, just copy the top-right code and paste it into your WordPress page HTML block
That’s it. The platform will automatically pull all the latest posts containing the specified hashtag and continue to sync again automatically.
Embed Instagram Reels widget in WordPress website
Adding an Instagram Reel to your WordPress website is a great way to engage with your audience and show them the latest Instagram videos from your brand. To do this, simply create a new widget in EmbedSocial and choose the “Instagram account” that contains Reels.
The steps are the same as creating a widget with Hashtags. The difference is that you will need to connect your Instagram account first.
Here is the editor with an Instagram Reels widget:
Embed Instagram posts from multiple Instagram accounts
EmbedFeed has the option to get posts from multiple Instagram accounts that you manage and create a combined Instagram feed with all the posts.
Here are some of the use cases when you might need to create Instagram feeds from multiple Instagram accounts:
- If you are a real estate agency, you can showcase listings from different real estate agents
- If ou are a talent agency, you can showcase the Instagram activity of multiple talents in your agency
- If you are a car dealership. you can showcase the Instagram posts from different car dealers
and similar. The use cases are endless, and embedding multiple accounts’ Instagram feed to WordPress is the same as previously described.

An Instagram profile can serve as an extremely useful aspect of cultivating an audience. You can use it to showcase your products, build interest in your brand, and simply make your content stand out from the crowd.
By adding and embedding Instagram content on WordPress, you can further increase your exposure (and potential conversions). It offers also offers an easy way for followers to interact with you on both platforms, and it streamlines the process on your end.
In this post, we’ll show you various ways to add Instagram to WordPress. These include manual methods, as well as using WordPress plugins. Let’s get started!
Benefits of Adding an Instagram Feed to WordPress
Before we jump into the how-to, here’s the why: Adding an Instagram feed to your WordPress site will boost your brand and your business by showing site visitors the latest photos you’ve uploaded to Instagram. The primary benefit of incorporating this type of feed on your site is increased brand exposure. However, there are a number of other notable benefits.
By regularly updating your feed with enticing, shareable images (complemented with searchable hashtags), you can keep engagement levels high, and potentially develop long-lasting customer relationships.
Finally, adding an Instagram feed to your site helps you establish a greater sense of trust with your customer base. By regularly updating your feed, you can continuously demonstrate how your company is relevant, innovative, and able to respond to trends.
How to Add Instagram to WordPress
Fortunately, there are various ways to add Instagram to WordPress. First up, we’ve outlined a simple and popular method—let’s take a look!
Gutenberg and Instagram
Do you want to embed an Instagram feed to your WordPress website? With the new Gutenberg editor found in WordPress 5.0+ embedding an Instagram feed or post to your site is easier than ever. Simply use the Embed block and link directly to your post. Check out this quick video tutorial:
Adding an Instagram Widget to WordPress
Outside of the Gutenberg example above, using a widget to add an Instagram feed to your site is another option. A WordPress widget is a modular element that enables you to add a particular feature—such as a newsletter signup form or a search bar—to your WordPress website. They can be added to different areas of your site, though sidebars and footers are the most common.
Using an Instagram widget in WordPress, you can directly add your live Instagram feed to your website. It can be displayed on all pages, or you can set it only to appear on certain ones.
To add an Instagram widget, we recommend you use a WP Instagram widget plugin such as Instagram Feed WD. This plugin actually includes its own Instagram Widget feature:
Once installed and activated on your website, go to Instagram Feed WD > Settings within WordPress. Here, you’ll need to log into and connect with your Instagram account:
Next, navigate to Appearances > Widgets, then scroll until you find the Instagram Widget section. Click it, then drag it over to your WordPress sidebar on the right:
You can also adjust your feed’s exact location by moving other widgets around, giving you a quick and simple way to customize how your sidebar or footer appears.
Should You Use an Instagram Widget or Plugin For Your Website?
It’s important to understand the difference between widgets and plugins. Plugins add a new feature to your WordPress website that may or may not be visible. However, when you activate a WordPress plugin, it may install a widget on your behalf—which is where the confusion can begin. Unlike plugins, widgets are always visible, often in the footer or sidebars.
When it comes to choosing between a widget and a plugin for Instagram, everything depends on your desired features. If you just want to display your Instagram feed or add social icons, a simple Instagram widget works well. Businesses that don’t rely on visuals or want the fastest site possible may prefer widgets.
For more control over appearance and functionality, a full-fledged plugin is best. eCommerce businesses, artists, and restaurants can all benefit from an Instagram plugin.
Because visuals are such a powerful tool for conversions, we always recommend using a plugin for Instagram.

How to Embed Instagram Photos on WordPress
There are two ways to manually embed Instagram photos on your WordPress posts and pages. First, head to Instagram and log in to your account. Next, find the image you want to embed and open it in a new tab. To do this, click the timestamp that indicates how long it’s been posted:
On the new page, select the URL from the address bar of your browser, and copy it. To embed the photo on your WordPress website, navigate to Pages or Posts on your WordPress dashboard. Next, select the page or post you want to add the photo to.
From here, simply paste the URL into your desired location within the WordPress editor, and you’ll see the image appear automatically.
Alternatively, you can use an Embed Code. Back in Instagram, and at your chosen image, click the ellipsis icon next to the Add a comment section:
Choose Embed, and copy the code provided. You can also remove the caption from the embed if you’d like, by unchecking the relevant box:
Finally, return to your WordPress page or post, but make sure you select the Text editor before pasting your code wherever you’d like:
Using the Embed Code approach takes a little bit longer than the widget method, but is a great choice for those with coding experience, as it has the potential to be more flexible.
How to Embed Instagram Videos on WordPress
Similar to image embedding, there are also two manual ways to embed videos. The first is the easiest, and requires only the Instagram post’s URL.
To do this, find the video you’d like to embed from Instagram, and click the timestamp at the bottom to open it in a new tab. Then, simply copy the URL from the address bar, and paste it into the WordPress editor. The video should automatically appear.
You can also embed the video using Instagram’s own Embed Code that’s generated for each post. As with images, simply click the ellipsis icon next to the Add a comment section, select Embed, then copy and paste the code into WordPress’ Text editor.
If you know your way around HTML, you can also tweak a few of the video embed’s attributes. For example, you can set the video to start at a specific time, or adjust the width and height of the post to better fit your website.
How to Add an Instagram Feed to WordPress
As outlined above, it’s easy to embed photos and videos on your WordPress website. However, you can also add entire feeds. This is a great way to keep your readers updated, but it can also be used within pages and posts to embed the feeds of others.
The best way to add an Instagram feed to WordPress is with a dedicated plugin. We recommend the one mentioned above, Instagram Feed WD, or another favorite of ours, Spotlight.
Spotlight Instagram Feeds pluginTo start, go to Instagram Feed WD > Feeds within WordPress. Here, you can create custom feeds for different areas of your website:
To create a new one, click Add new. You can choose your Layout, determine which Media to display, and even assign Conditional Filters:
Once you’re done, you can Publish the feed. Then simply copy the shortcode from the Feeds page, and paste in the Text editor of any page or post.
How to Share WordPress Posts on Instagram
If you’d like to automatically share your latest WordPress posts with your Instagram followers, WordPress plugins once again come to the rescue.

By now, you probably either have an Instagram account or have seen one online at some point. As of June 2018, Instagram has over a billion active users, making it one of the most popular social networks today. And since it has become such a powerful media hub, it's no wonder you'll want to add your feed to your website.
By integrating your Instagram account with your WordPress blog, you will be able to send some of the traffic your blog receives to your Instagram profile (and vice versa if you add a link to your blog to your Instagram profile). This is a great way to connect with your blog audience and opens up more opportunities for you to build your brand online. Ready to start?
There are several easy ways to add Instagram to your blog - embed a post or install a plugin. Each is an option to add your Instagram posts or your feed to your site, but aesthetically, each is very different.
1 Embedding Instagram Posts
If you just want to add an Instagram photo to one of your posts, it's as easy as inserting your photo's URL into your content. WordPress supports a huge number of embedded URLs by default (you can see the full list of embedded URLs in the codex).
To add a photo, first copy the URL of the Instagram post. Here's a visual so you know which part of the URL to copy:
How you add the embed will depend on whether you're using the classic editor or Gutenberg.
Adding Instagram photos in the classic editor
In the classic editor, simply paste the copied URL directly into your content. It should look something like this:
And if you want, you can also adjust the display width or height as part of the inline shortcode. So if we enter a URL with the following parameters (removing the spaces just after the opening [ and just before the closing ] brackets to make the code work):
[ embed ]https://www.instagram.com/p/Bf1sDIBg0kQ /[ /embed ]
The Instagram post we published above would look like this (only 320px wide):
Embedding an Instagram photo in Gutenberg
For Gutenberg, you'll want to use the Instagram block. Click the + icon and search for Instagram:
Paste the block, then paste the Instagram post URL and save. You should now see your photo:
However, if you want to add your feed to your WordPress site, you should consider using an Instagram ready theme or plugin.
2 Install the Instagram plugin.
Another option is to use a plugin because there is a plugin for literally everything, including Instagram. When choosing a plugin, be sure to read the details so you know you have all the features or layouts you need. And read the description to make sure the plugin complies with current Instagram terms.
Here are some of the best Instagram plugins (in our opinion) for adding your photos or feed to your site.

Instagram - Support
Instagram is an easy way to create, customize and share photos and short videos using your smartphone. You can upload photos and videos to your Instagram profile to share with other Instagram users, or connect your Instagram profile to other social networks such as Facebook and tell your friends and followers on different social platforms about yourself.
There are several ways to integrate Instagram with your WordPress.com site, including embedded Instagram objects, recent Instagram posts, and the Instagram widget.
Instagram Embedded Objects
Embedding refers to posting content, such as videos or photos, on a website or blog. If the material is "pasted", the video or photo can be viewed without leaving the site.
Watch the video below on how to embed an Instagram block on your website.
You can insert images and videos from Instagram on any page or post on your site using two different blocks:
Instagram block
Using Instagram block , you can insert one Instagram post per site.
First, copy the URL of the Instagram post from the browser's address bar while viewing the image. It looks something like this:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B-XJ8ALl32q/
Paste it on a new line in the editor and this entry will be automatically inserted at Instagram block .
Done! By default, a maximum size image of 612 pixels wide is inserted. Video embeds look very similar, but they have a triangular play symbol:
View this post on Instagram
"Recent Instagram Posts" can insert an automatically updated list of recent Instagram feed posts.
💡
If you have "reels" videos in your Instagram feed , they will be displayed as static images. Visitors can click on the video image to view it.
See detailed instructions for adding blocks.
When adding the "Latest Instagram Posts" block , a request appears to connect an Instagram account.
⚠️
If your site is on a plugin-enabled plan, your site must be public (not in Coming Soon) to connect to Instagram.
After enabling the connection, several options will appear in the block settings in the sidebar. If the sidebar is not visible, click the gear icon next to the Publish button.
Block settings are available in the sidebar. These options are:
- Account settings. View the connected Instagram account and disable it if you need to delete it or connect another account.
- Display settings. Set the number of Instagram posts to display, the number of columns to use, and the spacing (in pixels) between posts in the Instagram grid.
- Vertical layout on mobile devices. If you enable this option, the contents of the left side will be displayed above the content of the right side (and not side by side, as on desktop screens). This will make your site much more convenient for mobile device users.
- Optional. In the advanced settings tab, you can add a CSS class to your block, which allows you to customize the style of the block to your liking using custom CSS. Additional information.
Each block also has a toolbar with corresponding controls. The toolbar of the Latest Instagram Posts block, in addition to displaying in wide format or full width, if supported by the theme used, provides options for aligning the block to the left, right, or center.

If there is no option to change the block to wide or full size, and your theme supports these options, the block may have been added to the block group . For more information about the block group, see here.
Shortcode
Using the Shortcode block, you can specify the Instagram URL by pasting it instead of LINK :
[instagram url= LINK ]
Using this shortcode, you get the same result as placing the URL (i. e. Instagram block) , but it does not need to be placed on a separate line.
The shortcode can also be used to change the size of the inserted post. By default, it takes up the entire width of the content area, but if you add a width indicator to the shortcode, it can be reduced to 320 pixels (the minimum size for insertion).
For example:
[instagram url= LINK width=320]
Instagram Widget
Instagram Widget has been replaced with the Latest Instagram Posts block to show your latest Instagram photos in the sidebar or footer of the site.

Disabling Instagram will remove connections from all WordPress. com sites.
Multiple Instagram accounts
If you want to connect two Instagram accounts to your site at once, you can use two "Recent Instagram Posts" blocks (one account per block) or two different accounts for Instagram widget (one account per widget) as below.
⚠️
This process will require two different Instagram usernames. It will not work if you manage multiple Instagram accounts with the same username.

Using Instagram to increase traffic
Are you already using Instagram to grow your audience and traffic to your blog? With millions of users, the Instagram social network offers great opportunities for attracting new readers, establishing contacts with like-minded bloggers and other partners in social networks.
Using hashtags
Hashtags in captions or comments help new followers find your photos on Instagram (as well as your other pages on the web, such as your WordPress. com blog). Hashtags are very active on Instagram - you can find almost anything here and meet people who share your interests: from #street art to #travel and #cooking.
Use hashtags wisely! Don't tag the photo with every conceivable term, like #art #street #wall #paint #city #urban (and so on ad infinitum). It is better to focus on meaningful tags to attract people interested in meaningful and deep communication, both on Instagram and WordPress.com.
Getting a Personal plan
Showing your true self is a great way to reach interested readers. Most of us love to peep and peek behind the scenes, which is why Instagram feeds are especially popular, featuring photos from real life.
Share the moments that make up your day, such as a repair you're currently doing on your own (but not yet ready to blog about), or the kind of mess you just made in the kitchen by making a horribly unlucky cookie (#culinary flop) ). When you've completed a renovation or baked a lucky cookie, blog about it and share the winning photo on your Instagram page, including a link to the post with all the details.
Site content extension
Share not only fragments of your daily life, but also photos taken from individual records.
- Did you blog during your last vacation? Pick the best photo from your trip and post it on Instagram, and include a link to your blog text in your caption for those who want to click through to your site.
- Do you have a post with a lot of images but little text? Make a collage with PicMonkey.com or Instagram's Layout app.
- Are you a book reviewer or beauty blogger? Share a stylized image associated with your blog post and use it (along with a few relevant hashtags) to get more attention for your post.
Include a link in your bio
It's important that users can easily navigate from Instagram to your site. Since Instagram doesn't allow active links in captions or comments, update the link on your profile so that users can follow it to one of your posts or pages.
In the image below, Lorena of Cravings Journal has changed the link on her profile to point to her latest blog post:
