I never thought I'd miss craigslist but Facebook marketplace has more or less completely taken over as the ubiquitous local trading post and it's fucking awful.
This is what happens when you search "Les Paul" on marketplace and sort by distance. It's not just the results but the whole experience. If you type something into the price fields and hit enter to apply it unselects the other sorting methods you put into place. It's utterly maddening and I can't help but feel it's on purpose and belongs on r/assholedesign

Ths option deselecting is just such an obvious design flaw that must be a glitch.

This might be a bit off topic, but the one time I tried to sell something on Facebook Marketplace, I got nothing but the cheapest, low-ball offers or spam messages wanting me to send money to an obvious scam.
Iâm in France, so maybe itâs different elsewhere. I only sell on Le Bon Coin⊠the French version of Craigslist.

I've only tried buying a shipped item once and it got cancelled after 2 weeks.

I was with you until that last bit. Guitar Center peeps must be fucking allergic to cameras with more than 1 megapixel.
And you can't convince me it's not 100% asshole design. It's not shitty design, it's asshole design. It's this way on purpose. Entirely to shunt people into shipping or buying things that are shipped. OR things that are boosted.

Yeah but if you call the store they are usually very good about sending you more detailed pics and info. Iâve also gotten crazy deals from misidentified gear cuz their reps are often clueless.
Iâve had some luck with FB marketplace but yeah the UI is shit. The bigger headache is all the tire kickers out there. And lots of folks tend to prefer trades - âIâll trade my Gibson for an ATV or an assault rifleâ

I wish they made Marketplace it's own app instead of tied to the actual FB app.
It's awful on mobile as well. It's the only reason I have a FB account, to buy/sell stuff.
I prefer OfferUp as an app and use it mainly, but get alot more hits (especially with selling) with Marketplace.

Its awful for searching for cars because there's like no filtering unlike Craigslist. Problem is more people are using Marketplace. Its annoying I can't filter out all the cars that are automatic and instead have to waste my time clicking on all of them.

lol, so true. Why are the guitar center pictures for used guitars so terrible? Either way, Reverb is still the best option IMO for used guitars.

It's intentional.
They try to get a profile on your interests by throwing up random shit they hope you'll click on and buy while looking for different stuff. Then they can start targeting you with more specific results and therefore try to control your consuming habits. It's always all about control.
