How to become beta tester for instagram

How to be an Instagram beta tester?

Instagram is constantly testing and getting feedback on new Instagram features. The developers of this social network add several features to the Instagram app every week, and for practical tests, they have to disable these features for some active users and after a while.

The problems with this issue have caused Instagram developers to think of presenting an alpha app to apply all the new and future features to it, and after going through evaluation and feedback periods; Activate the main Instagram app for all users around the world.

Difference between the original version of Instagram and the alpha and beta versions

When software is going to be launched, it goes through several stages. For example, the first step is to test these versions, then a series of people try the software to fix the bugs. Finally, the version that has passed the filters and tests enters the market.

  • Alpha version

The alpha version of Instagram is a version that is still in the early stages of testing. Usually, many companies try these versions to get the attention of their customers.

  • Beta version

The beta version is a bit more advanced than Alpha. If you want to try out the new features of Instagram before it reaches everyone, download the beta version. But you probably have to endure a series of bugs.

  • The official and original version

After the new Instagram goes through the alpha and beta, now is the time to unveil the new version. This version is usually bug-free and has no particular problems. Everyone downloads the original version for use.

What is the Instagram Android Beta Program?

The Android beta program gives people who use Instagram for Android early access to upcoming versions of the app. join the program to give early feedback and help improve the Instagram for Android app for everyone.

If you’re interested in joining, please keep in mind that beta versions of Instagram for Android are early versions of the app. They’re still in development, have known issues, and are updated multiple times per week.

How to use the Instagram alpha app?

Instagram Alpha app is available for both iOS and Android platforms and allows users to experience the new and future capabilities and features of this social network. A feature may be released on the main application shortly after it may be forgotten and never made publicly available.

Working with Instagram Alpha comes with some bugs, but for users who want to try everything faster than others; it is a really exciting world!

Instagram used to release a beta version for Android that put some new features to the test, but now Instagram Alpha, in addition to being available for both major mobile operating system platforms; includes all features under development.

For the first time, an employee and developer of Instagram shared the app with users on the Reddit site, asking them to install and test it. He asked users to share their thoughts and concerns about the future features of Instagram.

The alpha program was originally launched but public invitations didn’t exist until a now-deleted Reddit post from an Instagram staff member. Since then, people have gained access to both the iOS and Android alphas by joining a Google Group and receiving an invitation.

Joining the group seems to no longer be a requirement though, because, at the time of this writing, the link people were receiving through the group is functional for anyone with a Google account.

For now, at least, anyone who clicks this link can download the Instagram alpha on Android. Multiple sources on Reddit and other sites report that the iOS Instagram alpha is no longer accepting new members. iPhone owners would probably be best served by joining the Google Group and checking the resulting page for a link, or keeping a close eye on related subreddits and online communities for a word-of-mouth update.

Usually, big apps like Instagram do not do that, and the release of the Alpha app is a special event and a bold move.

  4. Tab again on the "Leave" option to confirm.

What are the benefits of being an Instagram beta tester?

There are many benefits to being an Instagram beta tester. One of the biggest benefits is that you get to try out new features before they are released to the public. This means that you can give feedback on the new features and help to improve them.

Another benefit is that you get access to exclusive beta testing features. For example, in the past, Instagram has allowed beta testers to add a number of people to a live video at the same time. This is a great way to connect with friends and family members who might not be able to join you live.

Finally, being a beta tester can give you a competitive edge. If you are using features that other people don’t have access to, you will be able to stand out from the crowd. This can be a great way to boost your business or personal brand.

What are the risks of being a beta tester?

Beta testing can be a risky business. There are a lot of things that can go wrong, and if you're not careful, you can end up losing a lot of money. Here are some of the risks you need to be aware of before becoming a beta tester.

1. You might not get paid.

Some companies will not pay their beta testers, or they will only pay them a fraction of what they would earn if the product was released. Make sure you understand the terms of your beta test before you agree to participate.

2. Your data might be stolen.

Beta testing often involves sharing sensitive information like your name, email address, or phone number. This information can be stolen by hackers and used to spam or damage your reputation.

3. The product might be unstable.

Beta testing is often done on unfinished products, which means they might not be very stable. Your computer might crash, or the product might not work at all.

4. You might be banned from the beta test.

If you break the rules of a beta test, you might be banned from participating in future tests. This could mean you miss out on important early access to new products.

5. The product might be released without your input.

Sometimes beta testers are given a chance to provide feedback, but their feedback is not taken into account when the product is released. This means you might put in a lot of hard work for no reward.

A guide to beta testing

A practical guide and reference document to help you get the most out of Unity Early Access as a beta tester.

Welcome!

The Importance of Beta Testing

Our QA staff is hard at work to keep our releases stable, but we can't do without members of our developer community providing feedback on upcoming builds. We are very happy that you want to help!

To help you help us (help you), we created this guide for beta testers - how to submit your project to us, how to write a bug report, and more. By following these steps, you will be able to provide us with the most important information so that we can troubleshoot issues that affect you and the development of your projects.

Your feedback on the beta is invaluable. We analyze every bug report with a rating of 4 and 5 and do our best to consider reports with a lower rating (if you do not know what this means, read the blog). Once we confirm the bug and fix it, we will schedule the release of this fix with an upcoming beta. We are currently unable to provide information on which fix will be in which beta, but know that it will be released as soon as possible!

Below you will find detailed information on how to submit bug reports and feedback. Here you will also find a summary of the most important steps.

If you have further questions regarding beta releases, please visit the beta releases forum.

Table of Contents

  • 1. Installation and Getting Started
  • 2. Bug identification
  • 3. Documentation and bug reporting
  • 4. Subsequent interaction

01

Install and get started

  1. Download the latest beta build directly as a standalone installer or as a new Unity Hub app. This page also contains tons of beta information and resources. You can also learn about new features, find helpful documents and tools, and stay up to date with the latest competitions.
  2. Run the installation file or the Hub application. If you are using the setup file, install the beta to a new directory. It is possible to have multiple versions of Unity side by side as long as they are located in different directories.
  3. Start a new project or make a copy of the project you plan to use to test the beta, then open it in the most recent beta.
    • Don't forget to back up your project if you decide to run an existing project in beta. Backward compatibility is not guaranteed, so it may not be possible to revert to a previous version after upgrading a project.
    • Note that when Unity opens a project, it will automatically migrate it to the Unity version you are using. So working on a copy of the project also saves time because you don't have to re-import the project when you revert to the current stable version.
  4. Develop as usual and/or test new features and updates. If you think you've found a bug, follow the steps in parts two, three, or four of this guide.

02

Dealing with bugs in Unity

So... you've found a bug. Here's how you can help deal with it most effectively.

Situation assessment

Primary actions

Secondary actions

1. Evaluate the situation

Check the bug tracker for reports of the bug you found.

Search Google for a mention of the problem and check the relevant forum threads.

2. Initial Actions

Is this a known unresolved issue?

Vote on the priority of resolving the issue by going to the bug tracker.

Is this an unknown problem?

Report a bug by submitting a minimum reproducible design and respond to requests from Unity staff.

3. Secondary actions

The problem has already been reported, but you want to be sure that the bug fix will affect your case as well?

Report a bug by submitting a minimum reproducible design and respond to requests from Unity staff.

Already have a forum thread about your problem?

Write in it. If you don't already have one, start a new one with your problem ID.

If you stumble upon an issue with Unity, the first thing you should do is find out if it's related to an already known issue or if you're the first to encounter it.

The Unity beta forum is another great community resource. You can see what other users are reporting, find workarounds, or provide your own information. It's also a good way to get in touch with anyone from Unity. Just make sure the issue you're raising is in the current beta, and don't put multiple issues in the same forum thread.

If you didn't find anything related to the bug you found, then it's time to file your bug report. Once you've done that, it's a good idea to come back to the forum and post a description of the bug you found. Thanks to this, other users will become aware of this bug and will be able to add more content or write how they can work around the problem. This will also speed up processing times as we review the beta forum frequently and prioritize review of new cases discussed in the forum.

If you start a new thread about your issue, be sure to include your case number (provided in your confirmation email) with the post so our team can identify the bug report you submitted - this is the first thing they'll ask if it's not will be.

If you're not sure if your problem is related to a platform or project bug, and reading the forums and documentation didn't give you the answer, please file a bug report.

03

Documenting and reporting bugs

Writing a bug report can be intimidating at first, but it's not that hard and it's important for stability. Follow these simple steps to write a good bug report that our team can easily understand and respond to.

Don't be afraid to make mistakes. If we can't reproduce the issue based on the information you provided, we'll contact you to see if there's anything missing from the bug description.

Open the bug reporting tool

Start Unity and choose Help → Report a Bug from the menu. You can also find the bug reporting tool (Bug Reporter) installed next to the editor in the programs folder. In addition, this application starts automatically after a crash.

Provide basic information

In the “What is the problem related to” field, select the option that best matches the bug you found. Because this is a beta bug, it's usually "A problem with the Editor" or "Crash Bug".

In the “How often does it happen” field, you need to indicate if this problem only happened once or if it happens sometimes or whenever you take the steps that led to the discovery of this bug.

Please provide your email address in case our team needs to contact you for more information. If you are signed in with your Unity account, this field will be filled in automatically.

If your report is approved, the text from the "Title" and "Describe the problem" fields will be available to everyone in the Issue Tracker. It helps the community. Other users will be able to leave comments, vote (which helps prioritize fixes), and see when a fix is available. None of your personal information will be published. Your projects and other attachments are only available to Unity employees.

Identify the bug

How would you describe the bug in the most precise terms? Be short and specific like this:

Errors appear in the console after cleaning GI Cache and reloading project

Classify the bug and write a title

If you need to classify a bug, what would you choose? UI (User Interface)? Asset import? Specific platform? Crash? In this case, the bug was related to lighting and, more specifically, to the Enlighten lightmapper.

Okay, now add the classification and description of the bug to the title in the following format:

[Category] description

In this case, the title of the bug would look like this:

[Enlighten] Errors appear in the console after cleaning GI Cache and reloading project

Specify the steps to reproduce the bug

The QA team and the development team need all the help you can provide to diagnose and fix the issue. Depending on the information they receive, they may not be able to determine the cause of the problem, or they may go astray and fix something other than your bug. So it's in your best interest to provide as much information as possible to pinpoint the problem. The easiest way to do this is usually to mentally go back to the steps that led you to discover the bug. So, what would you do just before you hit the bug?

Close and reopen the project

So this was right before the bug was discovered. What did you do just before that?

Clean the GI cache: Edit > Preferences > GI Cache > Clean Cache

Keep rewinding - ideally until you open Unity. The more information you provide, the easier it will be to reproduce the bug and fix it. If you can't remember everything, try to reproduce the bug and pay attention to the steps taken.

Please note that you do not need to describe the steps in writing - for example, you can provide a video recording of your screen. It is important to clearly illustrate all the steps so that our specialists can reproduce the bug.

Give expected and actual results

What did you expect to get instead of a bug?

Expected: no errors in the console

What happened instead?

Actual: errors appear in the console

Please note that if an unexpected error message appears, then it is worth adding it to the bug description.

After filling in all the information, your report will look like this:

Attach project folder

The bug report tool will automatically include the currently loaded project in the bug report if you open it with an editor. If you launched this tool through an executable, you will need to attach the project manually. Unless the project is already small, it's a good idea to get rid of irrelevant assets. Submitting a minimal reproducible draft containing only what is needed will allow our QA team and development team to more effectively isolate the problem and provide a fix much faster.

If the problem occurs in a specific scene in your project, try exporting that scene and then importing it into a new project and see if the bug appears. If it shows up, give us a new, smaller project. If it doesn't appear, you can continue working with a larger version of the project.

To help you reduce project sizes and create minimal reproducible designs, we've developed several tools to help you save a lot of effort.

  • Repro Project Wizard
  • Project Stripping Tool

You can find more information about their use by clicking here.

It's ideal to report a minimal project that reproduces the problem, but large projects are better than nothing, so include the entire project in your report if you can't make it smaller. Our system supports bulk attachments. Please do not upload individual assets, because projects contain the necessary information and files that are not in individual assets.

The final report should look like this:

Great! You have created a brief informational report about the bug that our team can use to find and fix the problem. One last step left:

Submit your bug report

Click the “Send” button to submit your bug report to us.

Once your bug report has been received, you will be sent a confirmation email with your case number - you will need this number for further referencing of the bug. The email will contain a link to a web page that displays the current status of the bug. You can return to this page at any time to view the current status. Please do not share this link in forums or other public places as this link contains your contact address and bug report history. The case number will be enough for other users to find the issue on the Issue Tracker.

For the sake of convenience, we suggest that you keep an eye on your bug reports and related projects. We recommend that you do the following:

  1. Whenever you write a bug report, create a .zip file of the project to accompany the bug report.
  2. Save the .txt file of the report itself and store it in the Assets directory so that you always know what error appears in the project and how it can be reproduced.
  3. After submitting a bug report and receiving a confirmation email with your case number, write that number to the beginning of the .zip file name.

This makes it easy and quick to find the project attached to the report as soon as you receive an email from Unity notifying you that your bug report has been closed.

When you receive notification from Unity that your bug report has been closed, you can check if the bug has been fixed by opening the corresponding project in the most recent Unity beta.
