How to tag someone on Facebook

Want to tag a friend to show them something on Facebook? Or perhaps you're a parent who wants to tag your child in the ugliest, most embarrassing photo of them of all time because that's what parents on Facebook do.

We'll tackle tagging people to show them posts, first. And unfortunately for all of you with parents on Facebook, we'll go over photo tagging after.

How to tag someone in a comment section

1. First, find the post you want to show to someone

2. Go to add a comment

3. Begin typing the person's Facebook name, or type the "@" symbol first to get more suggestions.

4. Select the person's profile in the search suggestions

1. Go to create a new post

In general, you can tag people by typing there name in the designated area and selecting their profile – whether it be in a comment section, on your own profile page, or even if you write a post on somebody else's page.

You can also tag people (or yourself) in your friends' photos. If a photo has the "tag" icon (pictured below) in the top right, just tap it, then tap the area of the photo you want to tag. Type the person's name you want to tag, and select their profile. That's it! That person will be tagged in the photo.

How to Tag Someone on Facebook on Desktop and Mobile

There are a couple ways to tag your friends on Facebook in a web browser and in the mobile app.
You can tag both friends and pages in your Facebook status.
Tagging friends is a way to show you're with them, call their attention to something, or give them a shoutout.

Facebook, at its core, relies on our connections with other people — and our ability to stay connected by tagging them in funny videos, memes, and statuses.

Whether you want to check in to your favorite restaurant with a best friend, or write a lengthy post of gratitude to your closest family and friends, there are a couple ways to tag your friends on Facebook.

How to mention someone in a status on the Facebook website

1. Start typing your status and hit "@" followed by the person's name. Wait until the dropdown menu offers you the names of your friends or pages you're following. The menu also includes pages you don't follow or haven't liked just based on how they might fit what you typed in.

You can tag people or Pages in photos you share on Facebook. You can also tag other people's photos if allowed in their privacy settings.

Mobile browser classic

To tag a person in a photo

Open the desired photo.

Click Mark on photo.

Enter the name of the desired person and select Done.

To tag a person in an unpublished photo

At the top of the Feed, click Photos.

Select an image from your camera roll and click Next or Finish. Tap the icon to take a new photo with the camera, and then select or Next. nine0003

Enter a name in the text field and check the box next to the person's profile photo. When you're done tagging people, click Done.

Click Publish.

To tag a person in a posted photo

Go to the photo and tap the icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

Up to 50 people or Pages can be tagged in a photo.

When you tag someone in a photo, that person's friends can view, comment on, and like the photo.

You may need approval from the tagged person or the person who posted the photo (if it's not yours) for the tag to appear, depending on your privacy settings for checking timelines or checking the person's tags.

Three main ways

There are three ways to tag a person on Facebook.

The first and last name of the user is entered in the text of a post or comment in the form in which it is presented on the social network. The system reacts to this by popping up a drop-down menu with matches, where you can select the desired user.

Tag users on a photo

To begin with, an image is published that captures the desired user or users. You can either create a separate post or add a new photo to your album.

After uploading a photo, click on it and a special window with this image will open.

Removing a tag

There are two main ways to do this.

You can remove a tag by clicking the downward triangle icon in the upper right corner of a post and clicking Remove tag.
You can delete multiple labels at once. To do this, open the "Action Log", select "Photo / Video" (left column). The necessary publications are marked with checkmarks, the "Complaint/remove tags" button is pressed, then the user confirms this action.
