How Can Facebook Help My Business?

We’ll try to keep it short — Facebook is the gateway to getting your products in front of billions of shoppers. We’ve been partnering with Facebook for years to give you access to some of the best social selling tools available for your online store. Here are a few ways Facebook can grow your business:

  • Facebook Shop
  • Instagram Shop
  • Facebook Product Catalog (a fancy file that’s filled with important product details like pictures, prices, and titles, to easily create product ads)
  • Facebook Pixel (retarget customers with ads, measure conversions, and setup dynamic ads)
  • And Facebook Messenger

And with these social media integrations, Facebook holds the key to the future of social selling. While several of these tools require an e-commerce integration, users can use Facebook Messenger and Facebook Pay to receive money on Facebook. You’ll find out what this means for your business and why you need a Facebook Shop.

Is a Facebook Business Page Free?

Your standard Facebook Business page is free to create and use. However, if you want to use the e-commerce capabilities, such as a Facebook Shop. You’ll need to connect a product catalog to your account and this generally requires a fee.

If you decide to run marketing campaigns, such as boosted posts or sponsored posts — you’ll want to allot for a marketing budget. But to simply start promoting your business on Facebook with a business page, it’s completely free! And why we recommend it as a great place to start for beginners. You don’t risk losing money and if you start seeing organic growth, there are opportunities to build on that.

How Do I Accept Payment on Facebook Business Page?

Unless you have a Facebook Shop with payment, there are not many ways to receive payments on your business page. This is why we recommend setting up an Ecwid E-commerce store and getting access to over 60 payment gateways.

The one circumstance you can use Facebook Pay as a business is within Facebook Marketplace. Currently, Ecwid is building out capabilities to give merchants access to marketing their products via Marketplace, check back for more!

Other than that, as a personal business (per Facebook) you are prohibited from using Facebook Pay to receive payments. But if you’re still wondering, “how to receive payment on a Facebook business page?” And not quite ready for a website, non-Facebook services like PayPal or Venmo are a good place to start.

How Does Facebook Pay Work?

This payment feature works in a few ways:

  • Send money to friends or family through Messenger (availability varies by country)
  • Purchase games and in-app purchases
  • Contribute donations to a charity or personal fundraiser
  • Buy and sell items on Marketplace and in groups.

The main way users can receive money on Facebook Pay is in conjunction with the Facebook Messenger app. You should check availability in your country as the feature is being rolled outed to a select set of countries and apps.

Once both users initiate a conversation, a “$” icon will appear, allowing you to send money. You can start using Facebook Pay on Facebook or Messenger with just a few taps.

  • Go to “Settings” > “Facebook Pay” on the Facebook app or website
  • Add a payment method
  • The next time you make a payment, use Facebook Pay
  • You can choose to setup Facebook Pay across the different apps (where available) — Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp

Here is how to use Facebook Pay with Messenger:

Can You Accept Credit Card Payments on Facebook?

With Facebook Pay, they do currently support most major credit and credit cards as well as PayPal. Keep in mind that Facebook Pay is only available to a select set of countries and not widely available to all users.

The platform has taken steps to ensure a safe and secure payment gateway. By outlining the following safety measures:

  • Anti-fraud technology monitors purchases on our systems to detect unauthorized activity.
  • Advanced data storage and encryption for payment card and bank account details.
  • Notifications when we detect unusual activities on your account.
  • You can also add a PIN or use your device biometrics for added security when sending money or making a payment. Facebook does not receive or store your device’s biometric information.

These steps add another level of protection when sending money. However, Facebook does state, “the actions you take with Facebook Pay can be used for purposes such as to deliver you more relevant content and ads.” For example, if you purchase home decor items from Facebook Marketplace. You could see an ad for recommended decor products based off your previous purchases.

What Does This Mean for Your Business?

Now that you know users are linking payment information to Facebook, they are more likely to make purchases via the platform. This is why it is crucial to integrate your business with Facebook and start social selling.

Facebook is seen as one of the major advertising platforms, don’t miss the opportunity to get your products infront of the 2 billion users. And an Ecwid Facebook Shop is a must-have for business owners who want to take their selling to the next level.

Simplifying Payments with Facebook Pay

Meta

By Deborah Liu, VP, Marketplace & Commerce

Today we’re introducing Facebook Pay, which will provide people with a convenient, secure and consistent payment experience across Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.

People already use payments across our apps to shop, donate to causes and send money to each other. Facebook Pay will make these transactions easier while continuing to ensure your payment information is secure and protected.

With Facebook Pay you can:

  • Add your preferred payment method once then use Facebook Pay where available to make payments and purchases on our apps, instead of having to re-enter your payment information each time
  • Set up Facebook Pay app-by-app, or choose to set it up for use across apps (where available) — that means we won’t automatically set up Facebook Pay across the apps you are active on, unless you choose to do so
  • View payment history, manage payment methods and update your settings in one place
  • Get real-time customer support via live chat in the US (and in more places around the world in the future)
  • Clearly understand which payment services are part of Facebook

Facebook Pay will begin rolling out on Facebook and Messenger this week in the US for fundraisers, in-game purchases, event tickets, person-to-person payments on Messenger and purchases from select Pages and businesses on Facebook Marketplace. And over time, we plan to bring Facebook Pay to more people and places, including for use across Instagram and WhatsApp.

How It Works

You can start using Facebook Pay on Facebook or Messenger with just a few taps:

  1. Go to “Settings” > “Facebook Pay” on the Facebook app or website
  2. Add a payment method
  3. The next time you make a payment, use Facebook Pay

Once Facebook Pay is available on WhatsApp and Instagram, you’ll be able to set it up directly within each app.

Facebook Pay supports most major credit and debit cards as well as PayPal. Payments are processed in partnership with companies like PayPal, Stripe and others around the world. Facebook Pay is built on existing financial infrastructure and partnerships, and is separate from the Calibra wallet which will run on the Libra network. (Update on December 1, 2020 at 6:05AM PT: Calibra is now called Novi, and Libra is now called Diem.)

Security and Protection for Payments

Facebook has offered trusted payment experiences since 2007, and we’ve processed more than $2 billion in donations alone since we launched our first fundraising tools in 2015.

With Facebook Pay, we’re continuing to invest in security. We designed Facebook Pay to securely store and encrypt your card and bank account numbers, perform anti-fraud monitoring on our systems to detect unauthorized activity and provide notifications for account activity. You can also add a PIN or use your device biometrics, such as touch or face ID recognition, for an extra layer of security when sending money or making a payment. Facebook does not receive or store your device’s biometric information. Learn more about Facebook Pay privacy.

What’s Next

Facebook Pay is part of our ongoing work to make commerce more convenient, accessible and secure for people on our apps. And in doing so, we believe we can help businesses grow and empower people everywhere to buy and sell things online. We’ll continue to develop Facebook Pay and look for ways to make it even more valuable for people on our apps.

    4. If you agree to donate on a recurring basis, you authorize us to store your payment details and invoice you for the first donation immediately, and then re-bill at the start of each recurring donation period. We will continue to automatically charge your payment information for each recurring donation period until you cancel your donation, which can be done at any time on your account settings page. 5. You agree that we do not endorse or make statements about charitable organizations and are not responsible for their actions or omissions.
  • Hold request . When you request a hold on an item in the Marketplace ("Hold Request"), we obtain prior authorization from the issuer of your chosen payment method for an amount determined by the value of the item ("Hold Amount"). This amount will be returned to you when the seller marks the item as sold, if the seller does not accept your request within 24 hours, or if either of you wants to cancel the purchase.
  • No warranty . You acknowledge that any goods or services you purchase are sold by the sellers and not by us. WE MAKE NO WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, REGARDING ANY GOODS OR SERVICES PROVIDED OR SOLD IN OR THROUGH THE META PRODUCTS.
  • 2. Payment methods

    1. Payment details . For your convenience, we allow you to transact using a variety of different funding sources, such as credit and debit cards, Facebook Gift Cards, and other payment methods. You can store your payment information and add it to your account, update or remove it from there at any time on the account settings page. Any refund we owe you will be credited to the payment details you used to make the original transaction. If your original payment information is not available, we reserve the right to credit your refund to other payment information in your account or in any other way we deem appropriate. You agree to keep your payment information up to date. If we participate in the provision of a payment card account update service, you authorize us to contact your card issuer or payment card network to obtain your up-to-date payment information and automatically update your payment information, including account number or expiration date, if such information is available.
    2. Your authorization. By providing us with payment information, you confirm that you have the right to use it. When you make a transaction, you give us (and our payment processor) permission to charge the full amount using the payment information you provide for that transaction. Subject to clause 2.1 above, you also authorize us to collect and store this payment information along with other related transaction information.
    3. Prior Authorization Freeze . If you are paying by credit or debit card, we may obtain a pre-authorization from your card issuer for an amount that may be the full value of your payment. Such pre-authorization may take the form of a "freeze" of funds on your credit card or funds associated with your debit card. Funds will be debited from your card at the time of the payment or shortly thereafter. If you cancel a transaction before it is completed, this pre-authorization may result in the credit or funds becoming available to you only after your issuer lifts the freeze.
    4. Unsuccessful payments . If your transaction results in an overdraft or other fee by your card issuer due to overdraw or insufficient funds in your account, your card issuer may charge you a fee for which you alone are responsible.
    5. Facebook gift card balances . Facebook Gift Cards may be used to create a gift card balance ("Gift Card Balance") in the Meta Products. Going forward, you can use this Gift Card Balance on our platform as a payment method. The balance of gift cards is subject to the following conditions:
      1. If you enter the Gift Card PIN and click Redeem at www.facebook.com/giftcards/redeem, we will credit the value of the Gift Card to your Gift Card Balance. After entering the Gift Card PIN, you will not be able to return the received funds back to the Gift Card.
      2. All Gift Cards redeemed at www.facebook.com/giftcards/redeem in the manner described above will top up your Gift Card Balance, which is dedicated exclusively to payments to developers on our platform; the funds of the Gift Card Balance can be used to carry out payment transactions that you want to make. In the event that there are not enough funds in the Gift Card Balance to complete the transaction, we will offer you to choose an additional payment method to cover the missing amount. If you enter a Gift Card code in a game, in some cases the funds credited from it can only be used in that game or in other games from the same developer.
      3. We are not a bank, so Gift Card Balances are not considered deposits and do not earn interest. Gift card balances are not insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Financial Services Compensation Program, or any other public or private organization or insurance program.
      4. At any time we deem it necessary, and without prior notice to you to the maximum extent permitted by law, we may change the way Gift Card denominations are converted to Gift Card Balances or how funds credited to your Gift Card Balance can be used. as a result of this conversion.
      5. Some Facebook Gift Cards are eligible for bonus offers. Bonus offers are available to customers who have used such Gift Cards during the offer period indicated on the Gift Card packaging. To claim your bonus item, go to www.facebook.com/giftcards/redeem, enter your Gift Card PIN and follow the instructions. We will not notify you when said bonus offers expire. The list of offered free items may vary; the average retail price of such goods ranges from one to fifteen US dollars (1-15 US dollars). Bonus offers cannot be combined with other offers and discounts, cannot be exchanged or cashed out. Different terms and conditions may apply to Facebook Gift Cards and www.facebook.com; see more details on the website.
      6. You may not sell all or part of your Gift Card Balance or transfer any part of it to any person outside of the Meta Products.
      7. We do not exchange Gift Card Balance funds for cash or other benefits of monetary value unless required to do so by law.
      8. Facebook Gift Cards and Gift Card Balance can be used for an unlimited time. However, Gift Card Balances are subject to the Orphaned Property clause (Section 3.6 below).
    6. Incompatible . At some point, you may encounter a situation where your preferred payment method is not supported by any app or feature; however, you can choose a different payment instrument (such as a credit or debit card or mobile phone bill).
    7. Payment from mobile phone account . Mobile phone bill payment is another payment method introduced by us for your convenience. If you choose to pay by mobile phone as payment data, you assume the following possible risks and agree to other conditions:
