Note: If you’re saving another person’s video to share it on your own social feed, make sure to credit them in the post!
Not only is it the right thing to do, but you can avoid the kind of backlash that happened to Jerry Media in early 2019. The brand and their Instagram meme account came under fire for repurposing users’ tweets and posts without getting permission or crediting them.
Consider reading Instagram’s in-depth copyright policy before reposting any content from other users.
1. Save Instagram posts to your Collections
This method helps you save videos to your private Instagram profile. You can further organize the posts you save via “Collections.” Collections organize all the videos and pictures that users save on Instagram.
And it’s a simple: When you see a video you want to save, click the save icon below it.
Once you tap the icon, it’ll be available to view in the Saved page of your profile. You can access that by going to your profile page, clicking the hamburger icon in the top left side, and selecting Saved.
If you want to save the video to a specific Collection you’ve created, tap and hold the save icon and choose which collection you want to save the video to.
This method allows you to return to a video any time you want and watch it again. But, you can’t repost content to your own feed from Collections.
2. Save your own Instagram videos
If you have a video you created on Instagram for your profile or story, you can easily save it when you’re finished making it.
Simply record your video, and click on the download button at the top before you post it on your feed or story.
This works with videos you create for your feed and the ones you create for your Instagram story.
Luckily, if you’ve already posted the video to your Instagram Story, you can still save it.
Start by going to your Story and viewing the video. In the lower right hand corner, click on the three dots for more options.

You’ll then be taken to a menu where you can tap Save Video.
Your video will then download directly onto your phone.
Pro tip: Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Story Controls and then toggle on Save to Camera Roll to automatically save all your Instagram Stories to your phone.
3. Manually record Instagram Stories
Unfortunately, Instagram doesn’t allow you to download videos you find on your feed or on other users’ stories.
But, as long as you have the original poster’s permission, there are several workarounds for that. One easy way to save Instagram videos is to record your screen while the video is playing.
For iOS users, you can do this in five steps:
- Swipe up from the bottom of your iPhone to reach the Control Center.
- Press the circular Record button.
- Tap Start Recording. A three second countdown will now begin before recording.
- Record your video.
- Open the Control Center again and tap the red circular Record button to stop.
Your video recording will now be available in your photos app. Check out the gif below for a full breakdown of this.
Androids don’t currently have a built-in function that allows you to record a screen. But there are some great apps out there that allow you to do it. Here’s a few of them:
- DU Recorder
- AZ Recorder
- YouTube Gaming
- ScreenCam
- RecMe
Any of these apps will give you a good screen recording experience—and they’re free.
4. Use an app to save Instagram videos
The easiest way for you to save an Instagram video to your phone in order to repost and share with your users is with a third party app.
The good ones will allow you to easily download videos from another user’s feed or Instagram Story (again: as long as you have their permission). With it, you’ll be able to share it or save it to view at another time.
To help you out, here are a few great apps to download Instagram videos.
Note: For each app, we’ve included a link for either the Android or iOS download.
StorySaver (Android)A free app that allows users to download videos and photos from Instagram stories. Users can download the images from the stories of users they follow. The app is very intuitive and easy-to-use. It takes just a few taps to download a video.
Once downloaded, you’ll be able to post the video on your own Story or feed (with permission from and credit to the original creator, of course).
Story Reposter (iOS)Another great iOS app that allows you to download videos from users’ Instagram stories. Like StorySaver, you’ll be able to save and repost videos and images from different Instagram Stories.
All you need to do is search for the profile you want to rip the video from, and click on it before choosing the video you want to download.
An app that allows you to both repost images and videos, as well as save and download them.
It has a very intuitive interface and simple design. Simply copy the link to the image or video you want to download, and it will save it to your device.
Quicksave (Android)Another great app that’s similar to Quick Reposter. To save a post, simply copy the image or video URL and start downloading.
Also, with more than three million downloads, you’ll be in plenty of company with this popular Instagram video download app.
5. Use a web downloader
There are a number of great websites out there that allow you to download and save Instagram videos to your computer.
The catch is that you won’t be able to repost them on Instagram without importing them to your phone first. It’s a handy trick if you want to save Instagram videos and images for posterity.
Here are a few good websites that allow you to download a video with an Instagram link:
- Downloader4Insta.
com
- Blastup.com
- SaveFromWeb.com
- W3Toys.com
- Downloadgram.com
And don’t forget: Make sure you have the original poster’s permission to download their video, especially if you are going to repost it on your own account.
And that’s it. You now have the tools and know-how to save videos on Instagram.
Now go make great content (or repost great user-generated content).

Instead, you can save it to your Instagram Collections, record your screen to capture it, or download it with a third-party app.
Here's how to save and download any Instagram video on your iPhone or Android phone.
How to save Instagram videos to CollectionsYou can save Instagram video posts and reels within the app in your Collections.

How to shoot videos on Instagram - format and main features
Recently, Instagram has been redistributing content. Previously, millions of pictures were posted daily on the favorite social network for photographers. Now more and more users prefer to publish not static pictures, but videos. So far, film mania has not completely captured everyone, but many have already taken up the issue seriously. For example, they are concerned about the video format for Instagram and the duration of the videos.
There is good news on both issues. As for the video format for Instagram, not so long ago, users were offered a limited set: only mp4 or mov, only a square shape, 640:640 pixels in size. As a rule, there were no problems when downloading or shooting videos on the phone. But when the video was shot on a digital camera, before publishing it, you had to tinker: change the encoding and size.
Now Instagram gives its users the opportunity to choose. The site allows you to upload videos in a variety of formats. Only two dozen items and more and more are being added to them. We list the most popular ones: avi, mkv, mp4, mod, mov, mpeg4, 3g2, 3gp, 3gpp, asf, dat, m4v. See the full list in the Instagram Help Center.
The minimum resolution for square video files is 600:600 pixels, for horizontal video files it is 600:336. Video with vertical orientation (600:750) can also be uploaded to the network. But this form is considered unpromising. Since the picture will take up the entire screen. This is inconvenient for grading and commenting. By the way, the maximum resolution allowed in this social network is 1080:1080 pixels.
Look for bots or high-quality and live followers on Instagram - we have them! Get a new audience for your profile at incredibly competitive and cheap prices. Choose the most suitable service option and achieve an effective result.
Now about the video time on Instagram. The further the network develops, the longer the videos last. Recently, the longest video could not exceed half a minute (30 seconds). Now you can add clips to the tape from 3 to 60 seconds. And in history - up to 15 seconds. Although maybe at this very time the Instagram developers give the go-ahead to double the duration. By the way, one of the novelties of the social network is the IGTV channel. There, some users were given the right to upload videos lasting an entire hour. We will tell you more about IGTV later.

In the meantime, a little more about the format. It happens, however, quite rarely that the material you shoot does not fit into the framework offered by Instagram. In this case, you should use programs for converting. According to users, such resources as Online Video Converter, Online MP4 Converter and Clipchamp have proven themselves well. And it is more convenient to use them on a computer, and not on a phone. If you don't know how to add video from computer to Instagram, read our article. By the way, the administration of the social network assures that it is impossible to upload photos and videos from stationary devices (PC) to the site. But we refute this rule in the material “Add photos to Instagram from a computer - the simplest ways”.
In the meantime, let's recall the instructions for the procedure, which has already become familiar to the old-timers of the site, but is new for beginner instagrammers. We will tell you how to shoot video on your phone for publication in the feed:
-
Open the Instagram app, go to your profile;
-
Click on the "+" icon located at the bottom of the screen;
-
To record, touch the word "Video" at the bottom of the screen;
-
Next, click on the white circle with a stroke and keep your finger on it while you are shooting, if you need to pause, release the “button”;
-
So you can record a number of clips in sequence, if necessary, switch the camera to the front mode, this is done by the button with circular arrows;
-
When the video is recorded, prepare it for publication, apply a filter, write a description, set a geotag;
-
Finish sharing the video you just shot by touching the word "Share".
Now details about the innovation, which has pleased all lovers of amateur cinema. The authors of short films will find their audience if they create an IGTV channel on Instagram. There, ordinary users can upload videos lasting from 15 seconds to 10 minutes. And established Instagrammers (if you're not in their ranks yet, read about the best free and paid promotion methods) with over 10,000 followers are allowed to upload up to 60 minutes of video. However, this operation is only possible on a computer. By the way, the IGTV channel works for downloading and displaying both on stationary devices (PCs, laptops) and mobile devices (phones, tablets).
And all users will be able to see your films. Of course, if your profile is not closed. In a hidden account, only approved subscribers will be able to view the channel. How to make a closed Instagram and what it gives, we told separately. And for the most inquisitive, we will show you ways to look into the contents of a secret profile.
Since the IGTV channel is a novelty of the site, the video format is still subject to strict limits. Only MP4 format is accepted. Size from 650 MB to 5.4 GB (maximum for videos up to 60 minutes). Orientation must be vertical, 4:5 or 9:16.
But creating your own channel is not difficult at all. Instagram developers have made the procedure very simple and convenient. You can connect IGTV on your phone and on your computer. Pay attention to these letters and the symbol "TV" on the screen. Click on it and follow the prompts.
If you are just starting to master this social network, you will definitely need our materials "Registration on Instagram from a computer and phone, a profile without it", "Instagram people search - effective ways to find a person" and "Instagram nicknames for girls and guys , with a name, in English and Russian.
For those who are bored with the site for photo and video amateurs, we will show you how to quickly and permanently delete your account. And to evaluate and choose another social network, visit avi1.ru. On this resource you will find information about 9 communities from the Internet.

How to make an Instagram video with music without overlaying it
Instagram was originally conceived as a visual network. Therefore, the site developers paid the most attention to photo and video files. And everything that concerned the sound, for the time being, remained forgotten. Fortunately, this one-sided situation is gradually beginning to improve. Just the other day, Instagram introduced a new feature for video voice acting. For now, it's only available to iPhone owners. But soon, the administration of the network promises, there will be an option for android. We'll talk about the novelty a little later.
Now let's find out how to make an Instagram video with music. Since the network developers did not offer tools for this procedure, third-party applications took care of it. The AppStore and Google Play stores offer many applications for phones with different operating systems and web versions. Among the most popular programs: Replay, Lumify, GoPro Quik, VivaVideo, Pic Music, SoundTracking, KineMaster, Flipagram. They help you add music to a photo slideshow or video. One of the proven programs for Android devices is VideoShow.
And let's look at how to make a video on Instagram with music without connecting third-party applications. For example, a completely simple option: shoot a video with your phone, and turn on the music louder on some other device before recording. Place the sound source nearby so that the quality is acceptable. Then add the music video to your story or Instagram feed. But keep in mind: the voice acting will still not be very good, because the microphone will pick up all the accompanying internoise.
There is another option for connecting music and video on Instagram. But for this you need to have a player installed on your phone (no matter what it is: an iPhone or an Android device), and the music you need has already been saved. The instruction is simple, especially for those who have mastered the swipe movements well:
-
Open the audio player on your phone;
-
Let's find a song that we will attach to the video;
-
Turn on playback;
-
Stop playback by pressing pause;
-
Open the Instagram application, enter your profile;
-
Click on the “camera” symbol (top left corner) to record a new video story;
-
Before shooting, move your finger up the screen (swipe) to open the player, start the music again and start recording video;
-
As a result, the recorded clip must be synchronized with the sounding melody.
And it remains to tell about the innovation that allows you to record a video in a story with music, using only Instagram tools. This summer, the network carried out a functional update. Among other things, the Music in Stories option appeared. At first, iPhone owners from 51 countries will be able to test its work. And the updated application for android is still in the works.
The latest option attaches music tracks to photos or videos as effortlessly as stickers. The instructions for it are simple and understandable even for beginners. How to add music to stories:
-
Open the Instagram app, tap the camera icon on the left and top of the screen;
-
Start capturing a video by clicking on the white circle with a stroke;
-
When finished recording, touch the sticker icon;
-
In the window with stickers, check the "sticker" called "Music", in some versions of the application you can select a melody before starting recording;
-
From the list that opens, select the music file that will accompany your publication.
Pioneers who have tested this feature say that the Instagram audio library is not yet pleased with the variety. But as the administration of the social network assures, new tracks will be added frequently. So after a while, any user will be able to find a melody or song to his taste. In addition, the music library will not only be actively expanded, but also systematized. It has been designed for easy navigation. You can search for songs by genre, as well as by mood. Before publishing the audio file, you should edit it, then listen to what happened, and only then combine it with the video.
According to many Instagram users, the musical direction on the site should be further developed. High-quality and appropriate voice acting for videos will make the feed and Instagram stories even brighter. The novelty will help to share visual impressions and favorite music with subscribers.

3 reasons to record a video for Instagram Stories
Videos work great for a variety of reasons.
- First, it is the length. Your story can be up to 15 seconds long, unlike a photo, which will only be shown for 7 seconds.
- Secondly, video is, of course, much more convincing than a simple photograph. For example, imagine you have a call to action to follow a link to a website. If you support this call to the viewer to swipe up (swipe) with a recording of one of your team members making a bottom-up hand motion, it will be even more effective.
- Also, 70% of people watch Instagram stories with sound on. Publications with sound give bloggers the opportunity to talk to their followers.
Since 2020, Internet video content viewing statistics continue to grow. Marketers encourage blog authors to create more media content instead of text posts.
The reality is that social media users prefer video content, and it's important for creators to create content that subscribers want.
The problem that three out of five companies face is the psychological barrier of how to make an Instagram video without spending a lot of money.
Instagram Clip Size
However, Instagram video gives businesses the opportunity (or forces them) to focus on creating concise content. The video for the feed of posts is limited to 60 seconds, for stories, the video should not exceed 15 seconds. So there's no better way to dive into display marketing than to test concise content on Instagram!
We wrote more about the video size for Instagram in the feed and video resolution for Stories in the Standard Sizes review.
The social network is seeing a rapid increase in video views and watch time. The social network reports that algorithms have recorded an increase in 80% of the time spent watching videos in recent years. And we have seen a fourfold increase in the number of videos released since 2016.
With the popularity of video views and the many tools available for creating media, there's no better way to start making and posting videos to get your profile noticed!
Life hacks for short notes
When a blogger considers how to create a content plan for instagram and add videos that are less than a minute long, it is important to write a script for everyone.
Here are some tips for getting the most out of your videos:
- Start with a clean slate. Skip the boring intro or monologue with the introduction of the author. Go straight to the post.
- Add branding throughout the video or in the first 10 seconds. Use the advertised product or logo as a basis so that it is obvious who the author is without explanation.
- Stick to one topic. Do not complicate the post - keep the thought around one topic.
- Adapt clip for silent viewing. Short films are often viewed without the sound on, so if your video can be viewed in silent mode and still repost the message, then this is a win! If the viewer is required to unmute, offer to do so with a sticker, icon, or text.
- To improve the quality of your Instagram video, record sound without noise! Nobody wants to listen to bad audio. Listen to your recordings in the room without distracting background noise. Add music to stories instead of voice.
- The shorter the better! No need to stretch the clip for a minute if you fit faster.
If you managed to formulate a message in 20, 30 or 40 seconds, then leave it like that.
How to shoot movies
There are two ways to shoot videos on Instagram :
- Capture videos directly from the Instagram app.
- Load previously captured clips from the gallery.
Recording through the application is used to shoot a realistic story. In this case, the video is uploaded immediately. For a feed of posts or an advertising clip in stories, blanks are taken from the gallery and decorated with effects.
Shooting via app
To shoot a video story on Instagram through the application, press the + button on the main screen and select the “Video” option. To record a video, press and hold the round start button.
When you stop holding the button, the movie will stop shooting. This option is used to combine video fragments taken at different times in one video.
When finished recording, click the Next button to edit the clip.
Choose from any of the filters to add branding to your post.
The author has access to options for editing the cover for Instagram stories and we recommend doing the design. The first frame of a post is rarely the best frame to post.
Free templates for Instagram stories in the same style can be downloaded in the "Story Covers" section.
When viewers scroll through the feed, the first thing they see is the thumbnails for the video. Therefore, having a clickable cover image is much more effective than a blurry, awkward, or confusing image.
To make an intro for a video on Instagram, download the template on our website or foreign stocks. Customize the template in Adobe Photoshop or Canva and upload it to the app.
If you do not want to make a cover, then select a frame from the video to place a better quality image in the feed of posts or stories.
Loading a finished clip
To add a recorded video to your Instagram story, select the "Gallery" option on the upload screen and select the video to upload.
Click Next to make an Instagram video frame or apply a color filter and video covers. Edit files by cutting off any part of the beginning or end of the clip.
Use the trim function to remove unwanted parts from the beginning or end of the downloaded file. To cut video in stories, use the built-in options of the application or download the Story Cutter program on your phone.
At the end of editing, add a concise caption to the file you are uploading. The text should talk about the content and motivate viewers to watch the clip without delay.
Features of recording clips in Stories
Before making a video on Instagram, pay attention to the recording features:
- Instagram Stories are viewed vertically. Record vertical videos for stories and horizontal videos for posts.
- The aspect ratio for stories is 9:16 (full portrait format). This is slightly wider than a normal photo or video taken with a mobile phone. Therefore, keep in mind that the video may be cut off at the top and bottom when you upload it to your story.
- Watch the story UI so it doesn't overlap the video. The edges of the interface can block the places for text and the inscription will have to be done in the center.
- Instagram stories are only available for 24 hours. So try to keep your videos up-to-date and fresh. Nobody wants to watch stories about what happened a month ago.
We wrote about ideas on how to design an Instagram page for business in the review “Stories for Instagram business”.
Standard recording effects
To make a video with effects on Instagram, use the built-in tools to create funny animations:
- Instagram boomerangs.
- Super zoom.
- Rewind.
These whimsical styles are fun and meant for short content.
In Instagram Stories, you must first choose to record in rewind, boomerang, or super zoom before shooting.
how boomerang works instagram
Boomerangs on Instagram is a shooting mode in stories, in which looped 1-second videos are recorded.
The story itself will be 4 seconds long, and the 1 second scene will repeat 4 times.Instagram Superzoom
The super zoom zoom option is designed to bring the focus closer to the video subject.
Emotions revealed by the effect of an unexpected approach will not leave the audience indifferent and the author will earn subscribers likes.
How to make a reverse video on instagram
Reverse video mode is a standard Instagram option. Defy the laws of physics, whether it's dropping a microphone and watching it fly into your hand, or filming a fountain's water moving backwards.
When shooting stories, select the "reverse shooting" option and record a clip. When the recording is ready, upload the video to the story.
In the process of uploading a video to Stories, the video is converted and the finished clip is played from end to beginning. In this example, the clip is recorded with a reverse filming effect.
The blogger can record 15 second clips by pressing the "Normal Mode" button.
Also, there is a "Hands free" option to shoot videos on instagram without holding down the start button. After clicking on Hands-Free, the author has 3 seconds to install the phone's camera before starting shooting in automatic mode.
Make clips for stories more realistic than posts in the feed, this is necessary to get live video and audio.
The app has an option to upload pre-recorded videos to Stories. Since most bloggers don't record videos in short bursts at a time, it's wise to cut tips or informational messages from a pre-recorded video.
If you have long stock that you want to cut at 15 second intervals to use in stories, download the Continuous cutting and editing app available for iOS.
After shooting or uploading a video, the author can add stickers, text, hashtags and other design elements to complete the design of Instagram stories.
