Instagram videos – stats & factsNow you have all you need for the job. But for the full story, let us give you a little bit of background information about Instagram videos and why they matter.
Already in 2019, 54% of consumers were interested in watching more video content from businesses they support. That means that you definitely have an incentive to prepare more video content in general.
Moreover, Instagram is seeing a big-time rise in ad dollars coming to the platform lately. It seems brands have found greener pastures on Instagram over Facebook’s News Feed. Instagram states that 33% of the most-viewed Stories on Instagram are those that were posted by businesses.
This calls for changes in the way marketers capture leads. Instagram video campaigns are no longer a nice-to-have strategy; now it’s your necessary survival gear!
What’s more, experts say ‘Stories’ was Instagram’s smartest move yet. ‘Stories’ were released in August 2016 as a directly copied feature from Instagram’s competitor, Snapchat. Now, in 2022, it hits 500 million users daily. That’s over twice the number of users Snapchat had for its entire app life!
Today, brands can use Stories to promote their products too! The platform lets you seamlessly integrate your video ads between organic releases so that they blend in.
According to Instagram, 60% of users said they found out about a new product through Instagram.
For all these reasons, Instagram videos are definitely worth the money. That’s a bulletproof investment, and that is why you should consider them for your next (or current!) social media marketing strategy. 🙂
If you’re not using the power of video to meet your marketing goals yet, it’s time to start. Pick up a camera and start churning out video content like there’s no tomorrow!

When Instagram first graced our iPhone Home screens, it was primarily a photo-sharing app. But as the quality of our picture-taking (and editing) skills increased, so did the app’s capability to incorporate other mediums we can use to elevate our digital footprints. Video was, without a doubt, the most notable addition.
Instagram introduced video-sharing in 2013 with posts enabled to feature videos up to 15 seconds long. It was a glorious time in social media, as accounts creatively curated new content for this format.
Now, video is a massive component of an overall high-quality and engaging Instagram presence.
So if you want to add video to your Instagram strategy, there’s no better time than now.
As with all good things, there are still limitations in place today on Instagram videos. In this section, we’ll go over all of the size and length restrictions you need to be aware of prior to shooting.
Instagram Stories are arguably one of the most popular features on the app, so it’s no surprise that Instagram allows and encourages users to post their videos through Stories.
Even though it may seem like the sky is the limit for videos posted to Stories, there are some restrictions to be aware of, such as:
It’s also important to note that when you upload a video longer than 15 seconds to Stories, it automatically splices it up into 15-second chunks for you. So you might have to trim your iPhone video if you want it to fit in one Story.
You won’t find any feature-length films on this social media app. While videos on Instagram have drastically changed from the original 15-second rule, there is still a short-form limitation in place. And the dimensions depend on which kind of video you use: vertical, landscape, or carousel and square.
Here are the requirements and restrictions for vertical videos:
Here are the requirements and restrictions for horizontal videos:
Here are the requirements and restrictions for carousel and square videos:
In June 2018, Instagram launched IGTV in an effort to meet users’ requests for long-format video.
IGTV videos can be posted to your feed or can be found in the IGTV section of your homepage.
While you have more wiggle room when it comes to length for IGTV videos, there are still some limitations to be aware of:
Uploading videos might seem as simple as pressing a button — and often, it is — however, there are two components to consider if you want your content to be high quality: resolution and aspect ratio.
A video’s resolution is the number of pixels that can be displayed in each dimension, which determines how clear or unclear a video is. The aspect ratio is the relationship between the video’s height and width, which also determines the overall picture.
As you may have guessed, Instagram has its own requirements regarding resolution and ratio. We’ll dive deeper into those numbers in the sections below.
Having crystal clear videos on your Instagram Story can lead to an increase in engagement and user action. Here are some requirements and recommendations to keep in mind:
It’s no surprise that using high-quality videos counts the most in your posts.
In general, Instagram supports photos and videos that have a width between 320px and 1080px.
However, the recommended resolution and aspect ratio depends on the format you choose: vertical, landscape, or square and carousel.
Below are the requirements and recommendations for vertical video posts:
These are the requirements and recommendations for landscape video posts:
And here are the requirements and recommendations for square and carousel video posts:
Since IGTV is increasingly growing in popularity and use, it’s important to make sure the videos you share there are easy to watch.
Below are the requirements and recommendations for aspect ratio and resolution on IGTV videos:
Yes, Instagram does support videos with a resolution of 1080px for IGTV, posts, and Stories.
If you need or want to crop a video for Instagram, the process is fairly simple. Here are the instructions:
Once you go through these instructions, your newly cropped video will be saved to your Camera Roll.
If your video is too large to upload, you’ll have to resize it first. Thankfully, there are many apps and tools designed to change the Instagram video size. For the purpose of this article, we’ll be using the app No Crop, which is free to download in the App Store.
Here’s how to resize a video for Instagram using No Crop:
Instagram supports the video format MP4 for IGTV, posts, and Stories. To get even more technical, the supported video codecs are H. 264 and VP8, and supported audio codecs are AAC and Vorbis.
If you’re active on Instagram — or are strategizing to be more active in the future — you’ll want to include video content. Not only is it one of the leading online formats, but it’s a creative way to break up your feed and be even more engaged with your followers. Hope this guide helps you figure out the optimal Instagram video size, format, and resolution to best tell your story.

Usually, users are interested in two things - how to upload a long video to Stories and how to add it to the feed. As you probably already noticed, there are a few limitations on the social network. So, you can add a video to a regular feed, the duration of which is no more than a minute. The same is true for Stories - if you add a minute and a half video to your Stories, the service will automatically cut it to a minute and the last segment will not be published. These restrictions can be easily bypassed ... Catch a few ways.

There are two ways to upload a long video to the feed.
The first way is to post it on IGTV and add a one-minute preview to the post. Here's what you need to do for this ...
Instruction 1
I personally like the "Long Video" option because it saves the length of your video, plus you can choose a beautiful frame for the video cover to appear in your Feed post.
The second way is to cut your video into several equal pieces no longer than a minute long and publish them in a post in the feed in the form of a carousel.
Instruction 2

Now let's look at two ways to post a long video on Instagram Stories .
The first way - it also involves the use of Instruction 2, which we wrote above. With Story Split - Video Splitter app you will have to cut your long video into 15 seconds long or one minute long pieces. Explain why! Because one story on Instagram is 15 seconds. That is, you will simply publish all these 15-second videos in the correct order.
Either cut a minute-long video and upload several minute-long videos to Stories one by one.
The second method assumes the same scheme, but using the applications that you have. Usually everyone has an InShot video editor on their phone, for example. Just upload the video there, split it into two or more parts lasting no more than a minute, and then save each. After that, in the correct order, we upload a long video to Stories.
Well, now you know how Upload a long video to Stories Instagram and feed.

Before uploading videos to IGTV, it is important to know a few technical features 9017. Firstly, you cannot shoot videos on IGTV, for this you must first shoot a video on your phone or camera. You can upload videos in both horizontal and vertical formats. Secondly, the length of the video for IGTV uploaded from a mobile phone must be between 1 and 15 minutes. If from a computer - up to 60 minutes. You can choose a cover for the video from a fragment of the video or upload a photo separately. We talked about technical recommendations in more detail in our article - What videos can be uploaded to Instagram.
The title of video should briefly convey the meaning of the video or intrigue with an interesting question.
The optimal title length is up to 30 characters. In the description, open the topic, highlight the questions that will appear in the video.
To reach as many people as possible, post a video to your feed (we'll show you how to do it a little later) and optionally enable video display on IGTV on your Facebook page. To do this, you need to link your account to a Facebook page, how to do this is described in the article How to link and unlink Instagram to a Facebook page.
How to add a video to IGTV from your phone
In the upper left corner, click on the plus icon and select "IGTV Video". Or, on the bottom panel, click on the plus icon and upload a video from the smartphone gallery and select "Long video". Add cover art from your smartphone gallery or select a still image from an uploaded video. Come up with a title and description for the video, add hashtags.
To reach as many people as possible, enable "Publish preview" - the first 15 seconds of the video will be published in the Instagram feed.
Turn on "Show on Facebook" to add the video to your Facebook Page (for this, your Instagram account must be linked to a Facebook Page).
If you want to add subtitles, click "Advanced settings" and turn on "Auto generated captions". Instagram rolls out this feature gradually, so it is only available in the app and not yet for all users.
If the video consists of several parts, select the "Add Series" function. Come up with a title for the show and a description. You can also add previously downloaded videos to the "Series". The convenience of this option is that when watching a video, a mark is added, by clicking on which the user goes to a separate tab with videos on this topic. If you do not want to post videos in series format, then just skip this step.
How to add video to IGTV from computer
If you want to upload videos up to 60 minutes, use the web version of Instagram. Go to Instagram.com and go to your profile.
Click on IGTV (between the tabs with your posts and tags). Download the video. Select a cover and add a title with a description. Upload the video and cover in JPG or PNG format (minimum resolution 492 x 762 pixels). Add a title with a description.
If you want the video to appear in your feed, check the "Publish preview" checkbox. Check the "IGTV and Facebook Page" checkbox if you want to post the video to Facebook as well (for this, your Instagram account must be linked to a Facebook Page). Automatic subtitles are not yet available on the web version.
Stories have been on the rise for quite some time, but are now one of the most popular types of content on Instagram. How promising IGTV is as well is difficult to judge, but if you need reviews, viral or educational videos to attract and retain customers, then you should include IGTV in your content plan.
Your own show. Cooking recipes, music show, business coaching, educational guide.
Vlog. You can shoot a vlog or travel video, blog about beauty (make up, nail, beauty treatments, fitness exercises, etc.).
Reviews and guide. This type of content can be linked to almost every topic: a review of technology, a new arrival of goods (for example, for a showroom), a review of cosmetics, new movies, games, and more. Guidelines for using a product or ordering a service.
Humor and challenge. For bloggers, IGTV is a great way to share long videos with your vines or pranks. You can also arrange challenges, for example, for hairdressers - to do a hairstyle in 2 minutes or for makeup artists - to create a complex make up in 5 minutes.
News and trends. You can cover the latest news and evaluate it through the lens of your opinion or experience.
Answers to questions. Relevant for both commercial accounts and bloggers.
You can make TOP-5 main questions from clients/subscribers and sort them out.
Reviews. To build trust and reputation, businesses can upload video reviews of their product to the IGTV channel. For example, a girl takes pictures of your product unpacking and the first impression, a blogger makes a review and shares his impression about the quality of the product or demonstrates its use.
Live broadcasts. If your subscribers are used to the format of live broadcasts in stories, then you can upload them and duplicate them in the IGTV channel. In this way, you can save some useful content, and users can easily find it.
For image and reputation, the company can shoot interviews with the director of the company, an expert in a particular field, which will touch on the main questions and pains of customers. This can also include collaborations with bloggers - a joint discussion of some relevant topic.
IGTV videos are now mainly used by humorous publics and bloggers for reviews.
For commercial accounts, this is still a developing channel. But in any case, IGTV has its own audience, so you should use it and stand out from your competitors at the same time.
