How to work facebook video call

How to video call on Facebook Messenger

Facebook allows you to use its Messenger platform to make one-on-one video calls and group video calls with up to 50 people through Messenger Rooms, which is like a virtual hangout, where friends can just drop in just to say hi.

Here's everything you need to know about making video calls on Messenger.

Getting started with Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger is one of the most widely used messaging services, with more than 700 million people making calls on it every day. It's free and offers several communications features including video calling, and it's available around the globe, across a range of devices.

You can install the Messenger app on your iPhone or Android phone from the Apple App Store or Google Play, respectively. There's also a Messenger app for MacOS and Windows desktops.

You can also access Messenger from Facebook on the web or from the dedicated Messenger web app. Installing or using the latest version of Messenger ensures you will have access to the latest features.

  • Go here to grab the latest version of the Messenger app

If you should ever deactivate your Facebook account, you can still use Messenger. In fact, you can share photos, videos, start group chats, and more - all without a Facebook account. Eventually, Facebook said it hopes to integrate all its messaging platforms, including WhatsAapp and Instagram, so that users will be able to start a conversation and access it across from any of Facebook's services.

The first phase of this effort comes in the form of Messenger Rooms, a video-calling feature introduced in 2020, which we discuss in detail below.

How to video chat with someone or a group on Messenger

You can video chat with just one person or with a group of people using Messenger.

Messenger mobile app for iOS and Android

From the chats area, open a conversation with the person or group you want to video chat, and then click the video call icon.

Note: If you're not connected to Wi-Fi when placing a video call with your mobile device, the feature will use your existing data plan.

You can download the Messanger mobile app for iOS from here, and for Android from here.

Facebook.com or Messenger.com

From the chats area, open a conversation with the person or group you want to video chat, and then click the video call icon.

Note: Calling on messenger.com or facebook.com is only available using the browsers Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Opera.

Messenger desktop app for Mac and Windows

From the chats area, open a conversation with the person or group you want to video chat, and then click the video call icon (see above).

You can download the Messenger desktop app for Mac here, and for Windows here.

Facebook Portal devices

Portal calls can be received on Portal devices, the Messenger app on mobile phones or tablets, messenger.com or facebook.com, or on WhatsApp on mobile phones. But you can't use Portal to call Messenger connections that don't have Facebook accounts - confusing we know.

Anyway, to make a video call on a Portal, be sure to add your Facebook Messenger account when you initially set up the device, and then you can simply say to it: "Hey Portal, call [contact name]." Portal may ask you to confirm which contact you're trying to call.

How do Messenger Rooms work?

  • Messenger Rooms: The Zoom-like video calling feature explained

Facebook rolled out a video-calling feature called Messenger Rooms in 2020. It allows you and up to 49 others to join a group video call - which Facebook calls a "room". You can start a room from Messenger, Facebook, Instagram Direct, WhatsApp, or Portal, and you can open the call to all or lock it to stop uninvited people from joining. You can remove participants, too.

While in a Room, you can use Facebook's augmented reality filters and change out your background to a virtual one. Facebook includes 360-degree views of exotic locations for backgrounds, and there's beauty filters as well as filters designed to brighten a dark room. Keep in mind Zoom, a popular alternative, also lets you join large group video calls and use virtual backgrounds.

Create a Messenger Room

Here's how to create a Room from your phone:

  1. Open the Messenger mobile app.
  2. Tap the People tab at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap on the first person you want to create a Room with.
  4. Tap on the menu icon with four circles in the bottom left corner
  5. Tap on Create room.
  6. You can share the room in your News Feed, Groups, and Events.
  7. To share a room with people who don't have Facebook, you can send them a link.

Rooms are now available globally in the Messenger app. Messenger Rooms are eventually coming to all of Meta's messaging products, starting with Messenger and Facebook, and then Instagram Direct, WhatsApp, and Portal.

You can join a room from your phone or computer -- no need to download anything. Room calls are not end-to-end encrypted.

Facebook Messenger Rooms privacy concerns

While Facebook has also grappled with many security and privacy problems, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a livestream that the company has been "very careful" and tried to "learn the lessons" from issues with other video conference tools in recent months.

More than 700 million accounts participate in voice and video calls every day on Facebook Messenger and the Facebook-owned WhatsApp, and the number of calls has more than doubled in many areas since the coronavirus outbreak began, the company said in a press release.

Facebook

Messenger Rooms' privacy protections include the ability to control who sees your room, and can lock or unlock it. If it's unlocked, anyone with the link can join and share the room with others. But the room creator has to be present to start the call. They can control who can join, and can remove participants at any time, too. People can report a room for violating Facebook rules -- though those reports will not include any video or audio from the call. Facebook doesn't listen to your calls at all, the company said.

How to make a video call on Facebook?

In the age of modern technology, contacting your friend, who is, say, thousands of kilometers away from you, is very, very simple. To do this, there are many applications for smartphones and services for personal computers. But in some cases it is much more convenient to make a video call on Facebook, because you don’t even have to install additional programs.

How does it work?

A video call is an online chat with a friend using a webcam. To make a call to Facebook, you only need a valid Facebook account and a device with a built-in or plug-in webcam. If necessary, the video can be turned off, leaving only the possibility of voice communication. nine0003

The main convenience of Facebook video chat is that no plug-ins or programs need to be installed. The main thing is that the Internet connection is stable, and the webcam and microphone function without interruption.

How to start?

Actually, the video call itself will not cause any difficulties. You can launch it in a matter of seconds. We do the following:

  • go to the social network under your account;
  • open a conversation with a friend you want to contact via video chat; nine0016
  • in the right corner, click on the camera icon.

All. Video call started! Now you can chat for hours with your Facebook friends in real time. A great alternative to Facetime and Skype!

Useful information

If you have already tried to make a video call on Facebook, you probably appreciated the quality of the broadcasts. Naturally, much depends on the speed of the Internet connection you and your interlocutor, as well as the quality of devices for transmitting video and audio messages. For quality video chat, the following conditions are required:

  • Internet connection with a speed of at least 150 kbps;
  • current versions of Google Chrome, Opera or Mozilla Firefox web browsers;
  • working high resolution webcam;
  • stable operation of the computer.

Video calls may stutter or drop out due to slow computer performance. In these cases, disconnect USB devices, pause other programs and file downloads.

And some more interesting facts about Facebook video calls:

  • no video chat is recorded by the system, so the conversation cannot be archived;
  • You can communicate via the webcam with only one user of the social network at the same time;
  • If you don't have a webcam, you can still make a video call, but your friends can only hear you.

By providing messenger on Facebook with a video chat function, the leadership of the social network has made life much easier for many users. Now you don't have to create an account in separate video services. You can chat directly with your friends directly through FB. nine0003

Facebook Calling Guide - gadgetshelp,com

Facebook allows you to make free video and audio calls from their website and app, or from a Facebook portal device. This means you can make free internet calls with your Facebook friends wherever you are. nine0003

When you make a Facebook VoIP call from your mobile device, you're using your mobile device's data plan, so it doesn't count towards your carrier-restricted voice minutes. If you're calling Facebook over Wi-Fi, this doesn't even count as your data usage.

Making voice and video calls with Facebook is very easy because it works in much the same way no matter where you are - from your computer, phone or tablet. nine0003 Franek Strzeszewski / Getty Images

Facebook calling requirements

The Facebook mobile app and mobile website do not technically support audio or video calls. You need access to the Facebook website on your desktop or a messaging app called Messenger.

Messenger runs on Messenger.com computers, or you can download Messenger to your computer. Another way to use Facebook's voice or video calling feature is to install the Messenger app on your phone or tablet; You can get it for iOS, Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry. nine0003

The same app is used for both video calls and audio calls, so you don't need a separate Facebook app. To have a private video chat with someone via Facebook, use the same Messenger app that allows you to make voice calls (available from the links above).

Not : Not all devices that have the Messenger app installed can make video and voice calls. Some only support text messaging. nine0003

Obviously you can't make video calls without a camera, and you can't make audio calls without a microphone. Your device must have this hardware, either built-in or externally connected, in order to successfully call another user.

Facebook Voice Calls

To make a free call from Facebook.com, Messenger.com, or the Messenger app, simply open a conversation with the recipient and click or tap the phone icon at the top of the message window. nine0003

During a Facebook voice call, you can click or tap the video button to request that the recipient play the video on their side. If they do, your audio call will be converted to a video call.

Tip : Facebook voice calls used to work on the Facebook app in 2013, but now you can only make Facebook audio calls from your phone or tablet via the Messenger app.

Facebook video calls

Starting a Facebook video call is as easy as making a phone call. Open a conversation with the recipient and click or tap on the video camera to start a video call. This works wherever you can access calling features: Facebook.com, Messenger.com, and the Messenger apps for PC and mobile devices.

During a Facebook video call, press or tap the video button to turn off the video camera. This will convert the conversation into an audio call.

Help with Facebook calls

Facebook's video and voice calling features require that your computer or mobile device is properly configured to accept these requests. Without these options, you may not be able to talk or share your video with your Facebook friends.

If you are making a Facebook call from your computer, you must ensure that your webcam and microphone are properly connected and working. If you use your web browser to call Facebook, a pop-up blocker can interfere with the call, and if you don't enable your browser to access your camera and microphone, the other person won't be able to see or hear you.
