The Takeaway

This is because you must go back through time to a point before you deliver that message to make the “Delete for everyone” option available to you. So, do make sure that you have done that. You can bypass the 68 minute limit and delete any message much later. We will explain how the new WhatsApp feature works and show a life hack that makes it easy to manage the chats of the application.

68 minutes is not the limit. Delete messages at any time - we'll show you how to bypass WhatsApp rules. Hurry before the developers fix this vulnerability.

How to delete a WhatsApp message after sending

Recent app updates have made it possible to delete messages sent to WhatsApp chat. And it does not depend on whether they were read or not.

  • Once you've sent a message, you have 68 minutes to delete it. When this time passes, there will be no going back.
  • To delete a message, hold it down until the message management menu appears. Click on the urn icon which indicates the delete option.
  • If 68 minutes has not yet passed, select "Delete for all". Later, only the "Delete for me" function will be visible, which will only delete the message from your chat, but not from the chat of the interlocutor.
  • Instead of a message in the chat, the notification "This message has been deleted" will remain. The recipient will also see this notification, regardless of whether they have read the deleted message or not.
  • In group chats, deleting works the same way.

By the way, if your interlocutor is offline, you cannot be sure that he did not read the message. Your friend might have seen it on their smartphone's lock screen.

Life hack: how to delete a message even after 68 minutes

In theory, you only have 68 minutes to delete the message for both parties. But this rule can be tricked and even older messages can be deleted.

  • To do this, open "Settings" on your smartphone and activate the flight mode.
  • On iOS, select "Date & Time" under the "General" category. On Android, the same item is in the main settings menu.
  • Turn off automatic time detection and then manually change the date and time to match the period you sent the message.
  • Open WhatsApp and delete the message as described in the instructions above. Activate the automatic time setting again and only then exit the flight mode.

Please note that this security hole will be closed shortly. But in any case, you will have a whole 68 minutes.

How to delete a message from whatsapp from the interlocutor if a lot of time has passed and if you deleted it from yourself

In today's article you will find step-by-step instructions on how to delete your sent message on WhatsApp (whatsapp) for everyone - for both contacts and in the chat. The secret way to delete a message if the time limit has expired.

Such a thing as deleting sent messages is something akin to fantasy for any messenger user, because we all know that once a message has been sent, it is no longer possible to delete it.

This rule is unconditional for everyone except WhatsApp users. If you use this messenger to communicate with friends and colleagues, now you have the opportunity to delete messages sent by mistake. You just have to figure out how to delete your sent message in whatsapp (vatsap).

Why the function is useful

If the message is sent to the wrong number, it will not be possible to cancel the sending. But if the user has lost the desire to share the message with the interlocutor or just needs to erase the history of correspondence in order to avoid leakage of important information, all participants can delete the sent WhatsApp message from all participants within 68 minutes. After this time, only the “Delete from me” function will remain available in the menu, that is, the messages will reach other participants and be saved in the chat history of the interlocutors.

How to delete a WhatsApp message after sending

The latest app updates allow you to delete messages sent to WhatsApp chat. It doesn't matter if they were read or not. Once you've sent a message, you have exactly 68 minutes to delete it. When the timer expires, there is no going back.

  • To delete a message, hold it down until the message control appears on the menu screen.
  • Click on the bin icon which indicates the delete option.
  • If 68 minutes have not passed, click "Delete for all". Then you will have the "Delete for me" function active, which will delete the message only from your chat, but it will remain in the chat of the interlocutor.

Instead of a message in the chat, there will be a notification "This message has been deleted." The recipient will also see this inscription. Whether he read the deleted message or not does not matter. In group chats, deleting works the same way.

The "Delete for everyone" option works only during the first 7 minutes from the moment of sending. After that, the time limit will turn on and this item will disappear from the context menu!

If you previously deleted the message by clicking on "Delete from me" instead of "Delete from everyone", then nothing will come of it. If you make a mistake, you lose control over the management of the correspondence of the other subscriber.

Deleting a WhatsApp message from the sender

Even if you managed to delete the message in the first minutes after sending, this does not mean that the message has not yet been read. The text of the messages may appear on the lock screen of the recipient's phone.

The scheme for deleting SMS in Vatsap is the same for the sender on all devices:

  1. Press and hold the message with your finger until the context menu appears.
  2. Select “Delete” or the urn icon.

After that, the interlocutor's chat will remain in the same form, and will be corrected on the sender's phone. You can delete any number of letters in this way and at any time.

How to clear WhatsApp chat?

Cleaning a chat allows you to free up device memory, because it destroys all messages inside conversations, but at the same time it saves all conversations, contacts, group dialogs on the Chats tab.

This is convenient when you want to continue communication, but there is a need to clear not very important history in order to unload the messenger and increase the performance of the application.

Android

Step-by-step instructions for using the "Clear Chat" function for a personal or group conversation individually:

  • Start the messenger.
  • Go to the Chats page.
  • Open a conversation to clean up.
  • Call up the menu by clicking on the icon with three dots at the top of the window.
  • Select "More".
  • Type on the Clear Chat option to launch.

If a bulk purge is to be done, a feature that allows you to clear all chats at once, while maintaining their location on the page, will come in handy.

Action algorithm for clearing all chats:

  • Open WhatsApp.
  • Go to the "Chats" tab.
  • Call up the menu.
  • Activate "Settings".
  • Go to the "Chats" setting.
  • Open the conversation history.
  • Type on the "Clear All Chats" button to delete absolutely all messages, even in group conversations.

Remove text from both chat participants

If the sender decides to delete one or more messages in the conversation, he will be able to remove them from the phone only with the latest version of WhatsApp installed. The other participant must also have the app updated on their gadget, otherwise you will not be able to use the “Delete for everyone” function.

To update the app to the latest version, you need to sign in to your Play Market account on the Android platform or the App Store on iOS.

Android

You can delete a message in your smartphone if you perform these manipulations in the phone settings:

  1. Open the application on your smartphone.
  2. Mark one or more messages.
  3. Hold one message until the icon bar appears.
  4. Select the trash icon.

Instead of a message in the chat, a notification about deleting the message will appear. The interlocutor will also see it.

iOS

On an iPhone, follow the procedure similar to that used on smartphones based on Android:

  1. Open a WhatsApp chat.
  2. Mark all required messages with a blue checkmark.
  3. Hold one message until the context menu appears.
  4. Select the “Delete” option.
  5. Confirm the action in the opened dialog box.

Delete on iPhone.

Windows

You can also delete unwanted messages from a PC.

To do this, you need:

  1. Open the application and synchronize it with your phone.
  2. Select the sent messages to be excluded from the correspondence.
  3. Press “Delete”.

Delete SMS on the computer.

Erase the entire history of correspondence and chats

Deleting a conversation completely is even easier. Here is what you need to do for this:

  • Open WhatsApp Chats, find the one you want to clear and go to it.
  • Click on the menu button with 3 vertical dots located in the right corner of the top bar. From the list of options, select More and then Clear Chat.
  • Confirm your actions in the prompt window by clicking Clear. Additionally, you can "Delete media files from your phone" to free up some memory space.
  • Verify that the conversation cleanup was successful.

From now on, the dialogue with the other subscriber will be cleared of messages, however, he will remain in the list of chats in the main window of the messenger.

If you want to delete not only the correspondence itself, but also the mention of it, follow these steps:

  • Select a personal chat and click on the corresponding button then "Delete all correspondence / all chats" and click on this button.

You can only delete conversations and other information in the WhatsApp application on your smartphone. Information that has already been delivered to the interlocutor will be stored on his mobile device.

Voice messages

Audio recordings are removed from the conversation history in the same way as text. After holding down the desired voice message, click "Delete". But audio messages in WhatsApp may not disappear forever, since they are stored not only in the chat, but also in the internal directory of the application (when this option is activated). In order to activate the function of saving files offline, it is not necessary to make attempts to restore deleted recordings. It is enough to select the backup function and virtual storage in the phone settings, where audio messages will be duplicated.

Features on the iPhone

On the iPhone, you can also save voice recordings in the cloud and have access to them after deleting the application from the chat. All voice messages will remain in the iTunes service. The files will be available for listening outside the network.

Another way to save an audio file from "Whatsapp" in the device's memory before deleting it is to send an audio message to your own e-mail, indicating yourself as the addressee.

How to permanently delete a WhatsApp conversation

You cannot do this on your own. Requires admin-level access to the application with an encrypted login key.

Many people ask us: “if you delete WhatsApp, will the correspondence be saved?”. Yes, even if you uninstall the program, the dialogue history will not go anywhere. Moreover, all participants in the conversation will have copies of them.

All that subscribers have at their disposal is the deletion of whatsapp correspondence for those dialogues in which you yourself participated, sent or received SMS. The top two options we have considered partially solve this problem.

If these points do not suit you, go to the final one.

Cleaning the Whatsapp printout

There is a professional way to delete correspondence without restoring or vice versa, the same method can return all deleted messages, both your messages and someone else's phone number.

All of you are familiar with the term Whatsapp Printout, which allows you to copy the dialogues of any person and send the file to e-mail. All manipulations are performed at the messenger server level, where you can purge whatsapp by phone number. The geographic location of the subscriber is absolutely irrelevant. The only negative is the service is paid.

To completely delete WhatsApp correspondence, our specialists connect to the messenger servers, which store databases with messages for all phone numbers. All messages are usually encrypted, so the risk of our employee reading the chat is minimal.

You can erase all unnecessary dialogues, both from yourself and from strangers, even a year old. No stories - no compromising evidence. Chats will disappear forever and cannot be recovered.
Order

Non-standard solution

Whatsapp has a method to remove the time limit to delete unwanted messages. This tricky deletion method makes it possible to return to the past and clear the history of the dialogue.

Android

After 68 minutes after sending, voice messages can be deleted from the chat if you follow this algorithm:

  1. Go to the "Settings" tab on your smartphone, which has a gear sign.
  2. Turn off the Internet or set the flight mode.
  3. Select the setting “Network date and time” and deactivate automatic data update.
  4. Manually set the date and time before the first message to be removed. The time should be set earlier than the desired one by at least an hour.
  5. Send text, video and files from the application to the trash.
  6. Restore original date and time settings and deactivate flight mode.

You can remove text, an obsolete link, or an image this way.

Turn off the automatic time detection function on your smartphone.

iOS

A sent message on an iPhone will disappear from the chat history forever if you do the following:

  1. Activate airplane mode or turn off the Internet.
  2. Go to the "Basic" tab of your Apple account.
  3. Select date and time settings.
  4. Disable the “Automatic” option next to the “Date and time” item.
  5. Click on the current date and time.
  6. Scroll the drums with the date, hours and minutes and correct the time before the date of sending.
  7. Erase all unwanted messages, photos or media files.
  8. Restore network settings, date and time.

Changing the time on an iOS device.

If the interlocutor performs such manipulations in a dialog or chat, the text, audio or video file delivered to the user will be deleted, and a corresponding notification will appear in its place.

Other conditions and features of this option in WhatsApp

We have already said about the need to install the latest version of the program for the option to work successfully. But there is one more condition: the message must be sent no later than 60 minutes ago. Is it possible to delete a message in Whatsapp until it has been read, but on the condition that more than an hour has passed? No, in this case, you can only erase the text on your own. The table shows the options for Android and iPhone:

On Android On iPhone
Open a chat in WhatsApp → select message → “Trash” button → “Delete from me”.
Or:

Open a chat in WhatsApp → highlight a message → mark a few more with a short press → “Trash” button → “Delete from me”.

Open a chat in WhatsApp → select a message → the “Cart” button.
Or:

Open a chat in WhatsApp → highlight a message → select a few more with a short press → the “Basket” button.

You also need to keep in mind that:

  1. If you delete messages in WhatsApp from the interlocutor before they have been read, there will be no trace of them.
  2. If the entire chat has been read, then the opponent's text you wrote will be replaced with "This message has been deleted." The same applies to correspondence in the group
  3. If the option did not work for some reason, then there will be no notification about this. That is, on your part, everything will pass in the normal mode, and nothing will change for the interlocutor.

All the instructions / conditions in the article on how to delete messages from the recipient (recipients in this case) in WhatsApp are 100% applicable to group chats.

If you do not want to receive messages from a specific user, then you can delete unwanted contacts from Watsap.

Life hack for working with group chats

Sometimes it takes a lot of time to find what you wrote in a general chat. In order not to engage in endless rewinding of the dialogue tape, find your messages with a search. For this:

  1. Click on the “Menu” button (the panel above the general chat).
  2. Select the line “Search”.
  3. In the search bar, enter the word or phrase that is in the search text.
  4. Press the “Magnifier” icon (found on the keyboard).

The tape will automatically rewind and all matches will be highlighted. If you delete a message in Whatsapp in this way, will it be deleted from the interlocutor (s)? If less than a chat has passed, then yes.

Move messages between devices

In the event of a change of smartphone, you can easily copy all chats and messages to a new gadget.

To do this , install the messenger on the second device and log in (on both smartphones you need to log in to Whatsapp under the same cell numbers).

Then move the files from the Databases directory from the old gadget to the new one. Next, restore from an existing backup.

As a result, all your dialogs with other users will appear on the new gadget, the phone book, attachments and program settings data will be saved.

Retrieve deleted media files and attachments

The standard Whatsapp backup contains only text content, that is, simple messages and chains of related letters indicating the author and date of sending.

Attachments of media files and office documents are not saved, and often because of them there is a need to return chats.

Follow instructions:

  • All attachments that you have ever received and opened on your device are saved to the memory card in the Whatsapp/Media folder. When deleting a letter with an attachment, the corresponding file is cleared from the directory. If you have deleted the chat, but have not yet closed the program, this file will still be in the Media folder - minimize the messenger and find a picture, video or office document through the PC;
