Knowing how to send disappearing photos and videos in WhatsApp will give you an advantage over your chat buddies.
WhatsApp recently rolled out a new Snapchat-like feature called View Once, which lets you exchange media that is later automatically deleted from all chat logs. To put this feature to use, you have to tap the "View Once" icon each time you're sharing a photo or a video while using WhatsApp.
As of right now, WhatsApp is one of the world’s most popular chat apps, with an estimated 2 billion users exchanging messages around the globe every single month.
So if you've just updated your WhatsApp app and are curious to try the new feature, we'll explain how it works. Below, we've got a guide on how to send disappearing photos and videos in WhatsApp on iOS, Android, and desktop devices.
One thing to note, however, is that, unlike Snapchat, WhatsApp doesn't notify the sender if the receiving user takes a screenshot of the photo or video, so there's no guarantee they won't be able to save a copy.
1. In the WhatsApp app for iPhone , tap the chat with the person to whom you'd like to send a disappearing photo or video. Select the Camera icon to proceed.
(Image credit: Facebook)2. Next, tap the circular shutter icon to take a picture or hold it to record a video. Alternatively, select the gallery icon to send existing media.
(Image credit: Facebook)3. Once you've captured or selected a photo or video, tap the "View Once" icon. This should be located next to the "Add a caption" box near the bottom of the screen.

If this is your first time using the feature, a new window should open, describing how View Once works. At this stage, you can read more about it by tapping the "Learn More" option or select "OK" to finalize the process.
Finally, tap the "Send" icon and you're all done. Keep in mind that you'll have to repeat the above steps each time you send a new View Once photo or video.
(Image credit: Facebook)1. Similar to iOS, in the WhatsApp app for Android , tap the chat with the person to whom you'd like to send a disappearing photo or video. Select the Camera icon to proceed.

Once you've selected or captured the picture or video, go ahead and tap the "View Once" icon, as shown in the screenshot below.
3. If this is your first time using the feature, a new window should pop up describing how View Once works. At this stage, you can read more about it by tapping the "Learn More" option or select "OK" to finalize the process.
Otherwise, tap the Send icon as shown below. All done! Keep in mind that you'll have to repeat the above steps each time you send a new View Once photo or video.

(Image credit: Facebook)2. At this stage, you can decide whether you'd like to capture a new picture or video using your webcam, or select existing media from a folder on your computer.
3. If this is your first time using the feature, a new window should pop up describing how View Once works. At this stage, you can read more about it by clicking the "Learn More" option or select "OK" to finalize the process.

Keep in mind that you'll have to repeat the above steps each time you send a new View Once photo or video.

(Pocket-lint) - WhatsApp recently revealed it'd let users send disappearing photos and videos.
Now, it's rolling out the feature to everyone.
Any user of the Facebook-owned messaging app can share a photo or video, but if they select the new “view once” mode before sending, WhatsApp will limit the recipient to a single viewing before the media disappears for good. For you (the sender), the media will show up as opened after it's been viewed once. This feature is handy if you're, say, sending a photo of a password or sending a sensitive video you don't want to be saved and shared with others.
The thing is, your recipient could always take a screenshot, so keep that in mind.
New feature alert!
You can now send photos and videos that disappear after they’ve been opened via View Once on WhatsApp, giving you more control over your chats privacy! pic.twitter.com/Ig5BWbX1Ow
— WhatsApp (@WhatsApp) August 3, 2021
To send a WhatsApp photo or video that disappears after a single viewing, follow these quick-and-easy steps:
Note: You must select the "1" button every time you want to send a "view once" photo or video.
Once you send a "view once" photo or video, you can't view it again. It also won't be saved to the recipient’s photos or gallery. In fact, no one can forward, save, star, or share photos or videos that are sent/received with "view once" enabled. And if you don’t open it within 14 days of being sent, it will expire from the chat. That said, "view once" media can be restored from backup - but only if the message is unopened at the time of backup.
You can find out more about "view once" from this WhatsApp FAQ page.

Sometimes you need to send a message that would be better if it disappeared after some time. Now WhatsApp has such messages, and below we will tell you how to use them.
First, let's talk about how disappearing messages work and what the limitations are. nine0003
What are WhatsApp disappearing messages ?
All messages in private and group chats will be automatically deleted after 7 days, even if no one reads them. This is handy if you need to share a personal screenshot or content that would be better off disappearing later.
However, these messages can be forwarded or screenshots taken.
Does this affect old messages at WhatsApp ?
No. Only those messages that you send after the function is enabled will disappear.
Can disappearing messages be enabled in group chats?
Yes, disappearing messages are also available in WhatsApp group chats. Only the chat administrator can enable the feature. In private chats, settings can be changed by both participants.
If the message is forwarded, will it be seen?
Yes, but only for 7 days. When the original message disappears, the forwarded message will also disappear. nine0003
Is it possible to recover such a message?
No, messages are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
Is it possible to automatically remove disappearing media from Photos?
No. All media from the messenger will be automatically saved in the Photos app.
Even if the photo or video disappears from the chat, it will remain on your device.
If you don't need it, go to Settings WhatsApp > Data and storage and disable Media autoload .
Step 1: Open the WhatsApp application.
Step 2: Open the profile of the person you want to chat with disappearing messages.
Step 3: Select option Disappearing messages . You will see a description of the function. Press Continue .
Step 4: Now press On to enable the function.
Now all chat messages with this person will automatically disappear after 7 days. When you open a chat with disappearing messages, you will see a warning that the feature is active.
Step 1 : Open a WhatsApp group chat.
Step 2: Tap the chat title.
Step 3: Click Disappearing messages .
Step 4: Press On .
To disable the feature, just go to the chat settings and change the option to "Off". Changes will only affect messages sent after the options have been changed.
WhatsApp also allows you to send photos and videos that will disappear immediately after the first viewing.
Step 1: Open any chat. Click the add media icon. nine0003
Step 2: Take or select a photo or video.
Step 3: Next to the submit button, you will see a "1" icon. Click it to make the media disappear immediately after viewing.
Disappearing messages and photo features are very useful, but it would be great if they added screenshot alerts as well.

Want to send disappearing Snapchat-style photos or videos on WhatsApp? Facebook's messaging service allows you to do this.
This feature is called "Single View".

Developer: WhatsApp LLC

Sending disappearing media tends to give the illusion of privacy as the photos or videos will be removed from the chat, but that doesn't mean that your media files are truly private. For starters, there's nothing stopping anyone from taking screenshots of the media you send using WhatsApp's Single View feature. nine0003
WhatsApp also notes that encrypted media can be stored on the company's servers for several weeks after being sent. Also, if someone sends a message on WhatsApp, the company will have access to the missing photo or video that you sent using the messaging service.
If a photo or video has been opened, it will not be included in WhatsApp backups and therefore cannot be restored. However, unopened media uploaded with the View Once option enabled will be backed up and can also be restored from the backups.
nine0003
However, this feature has some privacy benefits. Media sent using WhatsApp's One Time View feature will not be automatically saved to the recipient's gallery. These media files will be deleted after the recipient has viewed them, and the sender will not be able to view the files after they have been sent. Once you receive a disappearing WhatsApp photo or video, you will be able to view it within 14 days of receiving it. If you cannot do this, these files will be automatically deleted. nine0003
These messages cannot be forwarded, saved, shared, or tagged. However, as we mentioned earlier, anyone can take a screenshot or screen record of these files to bypass some of these restrictions.
It is currently not possible to enable the one-time view feature by default. You will have to select it each time you submit. By sending media files using the View Once feature, you will only be able to determine if the recipient has opened them if they have turned on read receipts in WhatsApp.
