How to Create, Edit, Delete WhatsApp Status Updates

When WhatsApp turned eight in February, it has launched a new feature that seems to be pointing to a future where the app moves away from text messages, and relies much more heavily on photos and short videos - the ephemeral status update. This newest feature from the Facebook owned messaging company bears more than a passing resemblance to social rival Snapchat, and the update hasn't just added a new tab for the status in the menu on top of your screen, but also a camera button right in the middle of things, which can be used to update your status, or a contact, or group. It's an exciting change, and it's really straightforward too, but in case you have any doubts about how to use the feature, here's what you need to know about the revamped WhatsApp Status updates.

What happened to my old text WhatsApp status?

You mean the line which most people completely ignored, leaving it on the default "Hi there, I'm using WhatsApp"? Well, that's gone. Put the past behind you. According to some people the old text status is still visible, but it's gone for the most of us, so try restarting the app if you're still seeing the old status. Of course, the user backlash over the beloved text status made the company bring it back in March.

There are a couple of different ways to create a WhatsApp status you can do. Let's look at them.

How to create a WhatsApp Status using the Status option:

  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Tap on Status.
  3. Tap on My Status. If you've already got a status, tap the little circle with a + sign on the top right.
  4. Take a photo by pressing the shutter button, or hold the button for a video. Or select one from the camera roll at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Add a caption if you want by tapping on Add a caption, and then tap on the Send icon at the bottom right.
  6. You can tap on it to view, or press the menu button on the right side to check how many people have seen the update, or to forward it. Tap on the eye icon to see the names of the people.
  7. The WhatsApp status will disappear in 24 hours.

Here is another method to create a WhatsApp Status:

  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Tap the camera icon on the top left.
  3. Take a photo or video, or select one from the camera roll.
  4. Add a caption if you want. Tap the green tick to finalise.
  5. Next you can either send it to a contact, or select My status to update your status. Tap the Send icon at the bottom right.
  6. You can now go to the Status tab to see your status, as above.

Made a mistake? Don't worry about it, you can easily delete these updates. This is how you can delete your WhatsApp Status:

  1. Open WhatsApp obviously.
  2. Go to the Status tab. Scroll to find the status you want to delete.
  3. Tap on the eye icon that shows how many people have seen the status.
  4. This will show a list of the people who viewed your status.
  5. Tap the trash icon, and tap Delete to confirm.

There doesn't seem to be a way to delete multiple WhatsApp Status updates in one go though, so don't mess up too much!

You can set it so that only specific WhatsApp contacts can see your status, or you can make a list of contacts who can't see these, or set it to show to all your contacts.

This is how you can change the privacy settings of your WhatsApp Status:

  1. Once again, naturally, open WhatsApp.
  2. Go to Status and tap on the Three dots menu icon on the top right, and tap on Status privacy.
  3. Alternatively, you can tap on the menu button in the main chats screen and open Settings > Account > Privacy > Status.
  4. There are three options here, My contacts, which is all your contacts; My contacts except.., which lets you pick contacts to exclude; and Only share with.., which lets you pick contacts to share with.

And that's it, you're done, that's all you need to know about WhatsApp Status updates. To know about more things, do check out our How to section, and tell us what you think about this new feature, or ask us your questions via the comments below.

How to delete status in Whatsapp on android, iphone and windows

In this article: show

Whatsapp status means not only brief general information visible to other users, but also various activity notifications generated automatically.

Sometimes, situations arise when you need to remove your status from the messenger without fail. This can be done in many ways, both on a computer and on mobile devices. The differences are determined by the features of a particular operating system, but the general algorithm of actions will be approximately the same.

The status of a WhatsApp user installed on an Android smartphone is not at all difficult to remove. To do this, there are two main methods that allow you to complete this procedure as quickly as possible.

Method No. 1

The procedure for this option will be as follows:

  1. Open the WhatsApp application on the device and go to the "Status" section in the top menu.
  2. Find "My Status" and click on it.
  3. The browse screen appears with the View button at the bottom. You need to click on it, and then touch the image of the basket, also located below.
  4. Next, a pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm the deletion. It is necessary to tap the "Delete" button, after which all information will be permanently erased from the device.

If the structure of the broadcast to be deleted includes several parts, the previous steps will have to be repeated in each of them until they are completely deleted from the smartphone.

Method No. 2

In the second case, you need to do the following:

  • Open the application, find the status item and enter it. On the right side of the line "My status" there is a button in the form of three horizontal dots, which should be clicked.
  • The View Status page opens. To the right of the line with the number of views is an icon in the form of three vertical dots.
  • After clicking on it, a context menu with possible actions will pop up, where you need to click "Delete".
  • Next, another confirmation window pops up, in which "Delete" is selected again. After that, all information transmitted to the participants will be deleted from the messenger.

If you want to remove several parts of the current status, you must perform all the previous actions in relation to each of them in turn. Also, you can use a long tap to mark each update. Next, you need to click on the basket located at the top and confirm the deletion in the pop-up window.

Many owners of American technology also have to remove the WhatsApp status on the iphone. For example, the wrong video or photo was accidentally loaded. It is not difficult to delete this and other information. This is done in much the same way as on smartphones.

Method No. 1

  1. Enable the WhatsApp application on the iPhone. Find and click on the "Status" button located at the bottom of the screen. A page with the "My Status" tab will open.
  2. Click on the inscription: "My status", after which you need to tap on the status picture itself, located to the left of the number of views. The page will open in full screen mode, after which the eye icon located at the bottom of the screen is pressed.
  3. An area with views will open where you need to click the icon with three horizontal dots. After that, you need to double-click "Delete" - first in the context menu, and then in the pop-up window when confirming the action.

If the status in WhatsApp is formed from several updates, you must repeat the previous steps until the Status tab is completely cleared.

Method #2

  • Open messenger installed on iphone. At the bottom left is the “Status” tab, after clicking on it, a page will open where the “My Status” line is located.
  • Next to the number of views, there is an icon in the form of three horizontal dots that you need to click on.
  • A context menu will open with a list of possible actions, where the "Delete" item is selected.
  • Next, a pop-up window will appear on the screen asking you to confirm the deletion. After that, the operation is considered completed.

If there are several status updates, you will need to perform the manipulations described above several times. There is also a more convenient way using the "Edit" link located at the top. After opening the "My Statuses" section, all the content must be marked, after which - tap "Delete" at the bottom of the screen. Once confirmed, the status will be completely cleared.

Deleting WhatsApp status in the Windows operating system has its own characteristics associated with the limited capabilities of the messenger installed on the computer. The schemes used for mobile versions are completely unsuitable here.

On a computer, only the current status can be viewed, and all deletions are performed only from mobile devices - smartphones and iPhones.

The operation to disable the status function is not entirely correct in its essence, so you will need root rights to perform it. However, there are situations when this option is not needed at all, and then you need to perform several actions:

  1. Whatsapp is being forced to stop. The following scheme is used: Settings - Applications - Here you should click the "Forced stop" button.
  2. Use the file manager to find the folder /data/data/com.whatsapp/shared_prefs/. It contains a file called com.whatsapp.preferences.xml. It needs to be opened in a text editor.
  3. Various codes will be displayed in the key name "Status_mode". Here you need to change 1 to 0.

All changes are saved, you are logged into WhatsApp. In the menu bar, you will see that the Status tab is gone and is not visible.

How to delete WhatsApp status 'user is writing a message'

WhatsApp sends various notifications to other users with information about your status. One of these warnings appears when you write a message. Other users, both in groups and in individual conversations, can see the notification "Writing ...". Obviously, the most jealous guardians of their privacy may prefer this not to happen. If this is your case, here we will tell you how make it so that others do not know that you are writing a message .

How to delete WhatsApp message “Writing…” in airplane mode

The easiest way to prevent the message “Writing…” is to use airplane mode . Before writing a message, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the control center.

Open the phone control center

Then find the airplane icon and click on it. This will disconnect your phone from the network and disable Wi-Fi and mobile data.

Turn on airplane mode before texting

Note that there is an aircraft in the status bar at the top of the screen. If yes, please write your message. Since the WhatsApp application is not connected to the Internet, it cannot send a "Writing..." message to another user. When you're done typing, click the submit button.

Write a message while in flight mode

You can send as many messages as you want, but none of them will leave your phone. If you're done typing, open Control Center again and turn off Airplane Mode.

Turn off airplane mode and connect your phone to the network

WhatsApp will reconnect and send all messages at once without telling other users what you have been writing and for how long.
