One of the most popular is the Viber messenger, now owned by the Japanese company Rakuten. The application with a recognizable purple icon depicting a handset has more than a billion users worldwide and tens of millions of users in Russia.

Viber's advantages include its multi-platform nature - there are versions of the application for the most popular mobile operating systems, Android and iOS, for less common devices based on BlackBerry and Windows Mobile, Symbian, Bada. However, not everyone trusts the built-in security algorithms. Some prefer to periodically delete messages and even entire chats. But is it possible to recover deleted messages in Viber if you suddenly need them again? Yes, but subject to certain conditions.

If you deleted the message for yourself or for all users

In this situation, it all depends on what exactly you did. If the message was deleted by themselves, then you can ask the interlocutor to forward it to you from the chat - the other user has the message saved and he can send it to you again.

If you deleted a message from all participants in the correspondence (from the interlocutor or from the group chat), then it is not so easy to restore it here. If the message was in a secret chat

How to set up a backup

• On a smartphone in Viber, open the "More" screen;
• Enter the "Settings" menu;

• Find "Account";

• Select the "Backup" section;

• Activate "Create backup";

• Decide how often you want to back up your chats - daily, weekly, or monthly.

How to restore deleted messages in Viber from a backup

If you have activated the backup beforehand, then at any time you need, you can restore the archive. This will require:

• Open the "More" screen on your smartphone in Viber;
• Enter the "Settings" menu;
• Find the item "Account";
• Select the "Backup" section;
• Activate "Restore";

After installing Viber for PC, you connect your smartphone, sync your contacts and message history, and can pick up where you left off. All messages that you send or receive in Viber on a computer or smartphone are synchronized between all your devices in real time.

If necessary, you can use third-party applications, such as Wondershare Mobile Trans or Wondershare Wutsapper, which allow you to save data from your smartphone to your computer or even transfer messenger archives from Android to iPhone or vice versa, which can be very important if you decide to change platforms and switch to a device with a new operating system.

In principle, there are no particular difficulties in recovering messages deleted in Viber. But only on the condition that you have taken care of creating backup copies in advance and, ideally, set up regular archive copies of your chats. If you use secret chats, where all correspondence is irretrievably deleted automatically according to a set timer, then here you should rely only on yourself - that you will not forget to save the necessary information before it disappears from your device and your interlocutor's gadget. Because Viber keeps the confidentiality of correspondence and in the case of secret chats with self-destructing messages, this concern goes to the maximum level.

Otherwise, if you are afraid of inadvertently losing important messages, do not use secret chats and forget about the function of deleting messages for all users. Even if you accidentally delete something from yourself, you will not have a backup copy of the chats, but you will remember with whom you discussed important information, then there is always a chance to receive the desired message from the interlocutor, which he will send you from his version of the correspondence.

But still, for greater reliability, set regular backups in the settings, or at least install Viber associated with one number on the maximum number of devices - at least on your computer - to increase the likelihood that all correspondence will be saved on two different gadgets. Self-recovery of deleted messages in Viber

Viber mobile messenger allows you to restore deleted dialogs only if you have a backup created in advance. There are two options for saving the archive:

• Create CSV files
• Upload to Google drive

Save correspondence as CSV files

Open the mobile application and click on the icon with three bars in the upper left corner of the screen. The Viber menu will open. To access the options, select "Settings". At the same time, chats must be available on the device so that you can save them and restore deleted correspondence in the future.

Go to the "Calls and messages" section (third line from the top).

Select Email Log to create a compressed file from which you can recover deleted conversations. Also in this menu you can clear the history of dialogues. It is recommended to erase the history only if there is a backup, which will be created in the following steps.

The application will start creating an archive of all user conversations. The operation execution time depends on the number of dialogs and messages in them. The more chats, the longer the backup takes. Also, the amount of available RAM on the phone affects the archiving speed. If the process is taking too long, close background programs to free up memory.

Send message archive in Viber

Choose where you want to import the finished ZIP file. For example, it can be sent via email. Also in the list of options are other programs and online storages, the client applications of which are installed on the phone.

Enter an email address to send the file, or save the message as a draft. At this stage, you can edit the subject and accompanying text of the letter. Based on this data, you can find it when you need to recover deleted messages.

Important! Do not make mistakes in the postal address to which the message is sent. The archive will not be password protected, so if you enter the wrong e-mail, your correspondence will be sent to another person, and he will be able to read it.

The received file is best opened on a computer, as chats from Viber are saved in CSV format and packed into an archive. It is less convenient to work with such data on a mobile device; this requires additional utilities. Open the mail web interface through a browser, enter your username and password.

Open the conversation with the contact you are interested in, which you managed to restore. The information will be presented in the format:

• Date;
• Time;
• Sender's name;
• Phone number;
• Message text.

Please note! Only the text of the dialogues will be available. Multimedia files (photos, videos, audio recordings) cannot be restored in this way.

Saving and restoring messages via Google drive

Return to the main menu of the program and go to the last section - "Backup". It provides the ability to save a backup of correspondence for further restoration of all user chats. By default, this feature is disabled in Viber, so the message "Cannot connect to Google Drive" will be displayed. Open the "Settings" link to change the archiving configuration.

Select the Google account to which the backup of conversations will be uploaded to the cloud storage. Clicking on the primary account used on an Android device will not require re-authorization. If you want to save messages to another account, the system will ask you to enter a username and password. Confirm your choice by clicking on the "OK" link.

A notification will appear on the smartphone screen that Viber is requesting permission to view and edit information on the Google drive. Select "Allow" to give the application the necessary access.

The pop-up window will be closed. Click on the new item that will appear in the menu - "Create a copy." The information will begin to be copied to the Google Drive storage.
