Instagram’s mute feature lets you silence stories from accounts you follow without having to actually unfollow those accounts — which is perfect if you’ve ever had a friend who posts *way* too many Instagram Stories!
But did you know that you can hide your stories from other users as well?

How to Hide Instagram Stories From Other People
You have a few different options when it comes to hiding your Instagram Stories from other people.
If you want to prevent someone from seeing anything you post to your story in the future, simply head to your profile and open your account settings.
Next, tap Privacy.
And then Story.
Tap the number of people next to Hide Story From.
Select the people you’d like to hide your story from, then tap Done.
You can also choose to hide your story from specific users from as you’re looking at who’s seen your story.
Just tap the ellipsis button to the right of their name and select Hide Story From [Username].
If your story is appearing on a location or hashtag page, you’ll see it at the top of the list of people who have seen your story. You can tap “x” to the right of a location or hashtag page to hide your story from it.
Note: When you hide Instagram Stories from certain people, they won’t be able to see anything you post to your story in the future.
Hiding Instagram Stories from someone is also different from blocking them and doesn’t prevent them from seeing your profile and posts.
To mute an account’s Instagram Stories, all you have to do is tap the ellipsis button (“…”) in the top-right corner of any post and tap Mute.
From there, you can choose whether to mute posts or mute posts and stories from an account.
You can also mute posts and stories by pressing and holding on a story in your tray or from a profile.
This moves the account’s story to the end of your queue and prevents it from auto-playing.
Note: The accounts you mute will not be aware that you’ve muted them — and you can always unmute an account to get their stories back in your tray! Just re-follow the steps above and select Unmute.
Why You May Want to Mute or Hide Instagram StoriesWe all have one… an irritating Instagram account that clogs your stories with photos and videos you have no intention of engaging with.
It could be an old friend or recent ex, but whatever the social dynamic, the ability to hide an accounts’ Instagram Stories from appearing in your tray without actually unfollowing them gives you way more control over the content you see!
It’s also a lot less drastic than unfollowing someone.

There are two methods that you can try if you want to hide the story from everyone except one person. These methods are:
Using the Hide Story Option: Instagram offers the users a hide story option. One can easily restrict the users from viewing their story if they put them on the list of ‘Hide Story From.’
By Creating a Close Friend List: Instagram came up with a feature of creating a close friend list, which allows you to create a list of your close friends. When you post a story with the Close Friend feature, only those will be able to view the story who are on the close friend list.
Method 1: Use the Hide Story FeatureThe hide story feature on Instagram allows you to hide your story from particular followers easily. Therefore, you can use the hide story feature to hide your story from everyone except one person. However, this method can be time-consuming if you have a long list of followers, say above 1000.
You can follow these steps for this method.
1. Open Instagram on your device.
2. Tap on your Profile icon from the bottom-right of the screen.
3. Tap on the three horizontal lines or the Hamburger icon from the top-right corner.
4. Tap on Settings and open the Privacy section.
5. Now, tap on Story.
6. Finally, tap on ‘Hide Story From‘ to hide the story from everyone except the person with whom you wish to share your story. Tap on the arrow icon next to the user name for adding them to the list to hide your story.
That’s it; the people you add to this list will not be able to view your story except the person who is not on the list.

Method 2: Create a Close Friends ListInstagram allows you to create a close friends list.
This feature is for the users who do not want to share their stories with everyone but their close friends. So, if you’re going to hide Instagram story from everyone except one person, you can create a close friend list with only the person with whom you wish to share the story.
1. Open Instagram and tap on your Profile icon from the bottom.
2. Tap on the Hamburger icon or the three horizontal lines from the top-right corner of the screen.
3. Tap on Close Friends.
4. Now, remove the existing list, if any, by tapping on the Remove all option.
5. After clearing the list, you need to add the person with whom you wish to share the story. Use the search bar at the top to search the user from among your followers.
6. Once you add the person to the close friend list, go to your story section and select the story that you want to share.
Select the Close Friend list from the bottom of the screen before posting it.
Now, only the person who is on your Close Friend list will be able to view your story. This method is excellent if you have a huge followers list.
