By Yasmin Ahmed: People often panic at the thought of relatives or friends reading their messages. In the age of WhatsApp and incessant incoming messages, it is always a sane option to hide message preview on the home screen. It is convenient for iPhone users as the settings can be managed from the WhatsApp app itself. Android users can also tweak notifications by going to their phone settings or trying out the following methods. Although, only a brief preview of the Message is displayed in WhatsApp Message Notifications, it is still possible for someone to guess the purpose and the entire content of message by taking a look at WhatsApp Message Previews.
Hence, we are providing below the steps to Hide WhatsApp Message Previews on Android Phone and also the steps to Hide WhatsApp Message Sender Names from appearing on the Lock Screen of your Android Phone.
Follow the steps below to hide or disable WhatsApp Message Previews on Android Phone or Tablet.
1. Open Settings on your Android Phone.
2. On the Settings screen, scroll down and tap on the Apps or Applications option located under “Device” section.
3.
On the All Apps screen, scroll down almost to the bottom of the screen and tap on WhatsApp.
Note: On Samsung phones, tap on Application Manager to view the list of downloaded apps.
4. On the next screen, tap on Notifications.
5. On the Notifications Screen, tap on On the Lock Screen option.

This setting will prevent WhatsApp Message Preview from appearing on the Lock Screen of your Android Phone.
When you hide content in WhatsApp Message Notifications, you will still receive WhatsApp Message Notifications with only the Names of WhatsApp Message senders being visible on the Lock screen of your Android Phone.
However, you may not even want the Names of WhatsApp Message senders being visible on the Lock Screen of your Android Phone.
The only option in this case is to totally disable WhatsApp Message Notifications from appearing on the Lock Screen of your Android phone.
1. Open Settings > scroll down and Apps.
2. On Apps screen, scroll down almost to the bottom and tap on WhatsApp.
Note: On Samsung phones, tap on Application Manager to view the list of downloaded apps.
3. On the next screen, tap on Notifications.
4. On Notifications Screen, tap on On the Lock Screen option.
5. On the pop-up that appears, tap on Don’t show notifications at all option.
This setting will totally prevent WhatsApp Notifications from appearing on the Lock Screen of your Android Phone.
At any time you can enable WhatsApp Notifications on the Lock Screen of your Android Phone, by going to Settings > Apps > WhatsApp > Notifications > On the Lock Screen > tap on Show All Notifications Content.
Every time you receive a notification from an Android app, you see the app's name and icon, as well as a preview of its content. When it comes to messages, you also see who sent you the message, and at least part of it is easy to read and understand. For example, you can see the names of people who send you messages on WhatsApp, Messenger, Messages, and other apps, as well as a preview of their content. Some of this content may be important to your privacy and you may not want others to see it. To fix this problem, you can set your Android smartphone to hide the content of notifications displayed on the lock screen until you unlock your smartphone. Here's how it's done.
In this guide, we used a Huawei P30 smartphone running Android 10.
The procedures are the same for all Android devices, although they may not be the same. Some Android smartphones, such as Nokia, do not have the options shown in this guide and our guide does not work.
The first step to hiding notification content is to open the settings on your Android smartphone. Then scroll down and tap on the Apps & Notifications or Notifications section.
Android shows settings related to notifications and all apps for which you can personalize notifications.
If you want to hide the contents of all notifications displayed on the lock screen, tap Lock Screen Notifications.
By default, Android sets notifications to Show so that they appear fully on the lock screen. Select Show but hide content.
In theory, this setting should apply immediately to all Android apps on your smartphone.
From now on, notifications displayed on the lock screen should show the name of the app that sent each notification, how long ago each notification was sent, and a line that says: "Content hidden."
Unfortunately, not all Android applications meet this parameter, especially those that are commonly used for messaging and communicating with other users: WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram, etc. Therefore, you may need to manually configure the apps for which you want to hide notification content. Keep reading to see how.
On the Notifications screen, you see a long list of all Android apps for which you can set their notifications. Some apps like WhatsApp or Messenger may ignore the setting from the previous step. To make them behave, scroll down to the app name and click on it.
We wanted to set up WhatsApp and knocked on it. Then you will see many types of notifications: call notifications, group notifications, message notifications, etc.
Click on the notification type you are interested in. We have chosen Message Notifications because we want to hide the content of the messages we receive on WhatsApp.
Then tap Lock Screen Notifications and select Show but hide content.
Go back to the other notification types and change them in the same way.
Unfortunately, different applications show different sets of parameters. To help you understand the general approach, we have another example: the Facebook Messenger app. We clicked on Messenger on the notifications screen. As you can see below, its notifications are split differently. We clicked Chats & Calls because we wanted to hide the content of chat messages received on Messenger.
Then tap Lock Screen Notifications and select Show but hide content.
Repeat this procedure for all notification types you are interested in. You might think you're done, but Messenger has additional settings hidden at the bottom of the notification screen.
Scroll down and click on Advanced settings.
Now you see different notification settings. Turn off notification previews so that Facebook Messenger no longer displays the name and message in its notifications.
Now you're done and Messenger should stop showing notification content.
REMEMBER: The approach you should follow is similar to the one we showed for WhatsApp and Messenger. The notification options you receive may vary, but the general approach should work for other messaging apps (Skype, LinkedIn, Telegram, Viber, etc.) as well.
The steps shown in this guide should work on most Android 10 smartphones. If it doesn't, the last step is to restart your smartphone to make sure the new notification settings are applied. One thing we've noticed is that not all smartphone manufacturers allow notifications to be configured in this way, and some devices have no notification options at all.
Before you close this guide, tell us if it worked for you, what smartphone you have, and what version of Android you have.
