When changing the background color on your Instagram Story, you can use defaults provided by Instagram.

To do this, when creating a story, you just need to tap on the color icon at the bottom right corner of the Story screen to switch between default background color options.

One of the easiest ways to add a non-default background color to a Story is by using the Create screen.

You can then select a color from a color wheel rather than a preset provided by Instagram.

The same process applies to both Android and iOS.

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Add the photo or video to your Story.
  2. Make the background visible by making the photo or video smaller by pinching your fingers together on the screen
  3. Tap on the squiggle icon at the top of the screen.
  4. Select the color dropper and tap the desired color from the photo.
  5. Press and hold the background. You'll notice that the whole Story becomes the chosen color. Don't worry, that's how it should be.
  6. Tap Done. Then swipe up, tap on the image icon, and choose the same photo/video that you wanted to upload in the first place.

Your background color is now ready and set. You can add any additional effects to the Story that you want. When you're ready, hit Send to > Share to add the Story to your account.

If you use Instagram’s in-built gradients, there are only 6 set gradients to choose from (with additional grey and black plain backgrounds). This is a simple way to create a colourful background with ease. However, if you want to make a gradient background with specific colours, various gradient angles and amounts of blend, you’ll have to use an additional app. Perhaps you’d like your Instagram stories background to match your brand colours or a style that suits a particular theme you’re exploring. You can do this very easily through the new app Mixter.

How to create any colour gradient for Instagram stories

Unlimited colour gradients are available on the Mixter app. You can shuffle through a colour gradient generator or create your own gradients exactly the way you like them.

How to create your own colour gradient
  1. Open the Mixter app.
  2. Select one of the three coloured dots under the gradient preview. From here you can change the colour for that section of the gradient.
  3. There are three ways to find your perfect colour.
  • You can select a colour from the grid, which makes it easy to pick out a distinct colour from a selection of shades.
  • You can select a colour on the spectrum. This allows greater fluidity in finding your perfect shade.
  • You can create the colour using sliders. This allows you to determine the exact amount of red, green and blue you want in the colour. Here you can also input an exact Display P3 Hex Colour #, making it easy for you to get your brand's exact shades in your gradient.
Grid, spectrum and slider options for selecting the perfect colours for your Instagram background colour gradient

If there’s a shade already in the preview you’d like to replicate, you can use the colour picker in the top left-hand corner of any of these options. If you want to save the colour you’ve selected for future gradients, select the plus (+) symbol at the bottom of the screen. To delete a saved gradient, hold down on the shade’s circle and tap delete.

4. When you are happy with the colour, tap the cross (x) in the top right-hand corner of the box.

5. Repeat step 2-4 until you are happy with all three colours making the gradient.

6. When you are happy with every shade, move the colour dots along the slider to determine how much of each colour is in the gradient. You can also change the order of the colours by sliding these colour dots along the slider. This can dramatically change the overall look.

Move the colour dots and change their order to customise your Instagram background colour gradient

7. If you’d like to change the angle of the gradient, tap the rotate symbol (second icon) in the bottom left-hand corner. Place your thumb or finger on the screen and move in a circular motion to rotate the background gradient until you are happy with the angle.

Background for Instagram stories: how to make beautiful, change the background color

Stories may soon become the main type of content on Instagram, but along with the number of stories, competition is growing. You need to come up with new ideas for stories and ways to design content to stand out.

We have already given 16 examples of text design in posts, and in this article we will offer some ideas for creating an unusual background using the standard story editor.

How to change the background of the story on Instagram

By default, in the story editor, you can shoot a video or make static stories with a background. The background can be a picture from your phone or a gradient.

To add your picture, click on the square in the lower left corner and select a photo from the gallery.

To use a gradient fill, click Create at the bottom. We will talk more about the gradient in more detail.

Stories background hacks

Sometimes a picture or a built-in gradient may not be enough for a spectacular story. How else can you transform the background using the editor?

Plain background

Sometimes a simple plain background may be needed, for example to emphasize text. First you need to add a picture from the gallery as a background (it is written above how). Then go to the drawing tool - the wavy line icon.

Select the leftmost marker icon, and at the bottom select the desired color, for example, green. Or you can use the eyedropper tool.

Then pinch any place on the photo with your finger and hold until the background becomes solid. In the same way, you can change the color if you change your mind - select another one from the palette and again pinch the screen with your finger until the color changes.

Now you can add the desired text, photo or GIF. You can use this method for the background of current stories.

P.S. If the proposed palette is not enough, then you can hold down any color and a more diverse one will appear.

Text Rectangles

This trick can be used to add design elements. We take a photo from the gallery or make a solid background. Click on the Add Text icon. We put a point (you can use another sign, most importantly, a small one), then 10-15 spaces and one more point. Add a background to the text - icon A.

A colored rectangle is obtained.

Now stretch and move the rectangle to the corner.

You can do this several times, making rectangles of different colors, experimenting with shapes. It turns out a frame.

P.S. The more spaces, the less you need to stretch the rectangle, and the stripe is already obtained.

Gradient

We already wrote above that the gradient is a standard editor feature. When we click "Create", a gradient opens, to change it, you need to click on the gradient icon in the lower right corner.

There are 5 types of gradient in the editor.

If you want to make your own gradient, you can use the trick. Click on the sticker icon. Scroll to the emoji and select the one that suits us in color.

Stretch the emoji to make a color.

Do the same with the other emoji and then combine them.

Of course, the transition here is not as smooth as in standard gradients, but you can experiment. It is better to choose solid-color emoji so that dead pixels are not very conspicuous. Alternatively, you can arrange activities or games in stories like this.

You can use not only emojis, but also gifs or any PNG image from the Internet.

Another way is to use text boxes (previous point). We make a solid background - choose the main color. Then we make a rectangle from the text of a different color. It is better to choose a color from an expanded palette.

Now enlarge the rectangle and tilt it to the desired angle. It remains to add text. This method is better than the GIF gradient, as it has a smoother color transition.

Semi-transparent background

Semi-transparent background is useful if you do not want to use just a picture or a solid background. Adding a neutral picture from the gallery. Go to the drawing tool (wavy line icon) and find the highlight marker there.

Select it, select the desired color in the palette at the bottom (you can use the pipette) and pinch the screen with your finger until a translucent fill appears. The principle is the same as for a transparent background, only there we used a regular marker. Then you can add an inscription and other elements.

P.S. Unfortunately, the percentage of transparency cannot be adjusted, and sometimes the translucent fill flies off and changes to a solid color.

Symbol background patterns

For this life hack, we need coolsymbol.com. Here you can find interesting symbols and fonts and insert them into your story as text. Yes, new beautiful fonts have recently appeared in the story editor, but they still do not suit many. So let's go to the site.

Scroll down and select the desired symbol. Click on the symbol, it is saved to the clipboard.

Now we need to add text to the story (we add all the characters from this site like this). Click on the Text tool (the icon with the letters Aa), pinch the screen with your finger so that the “Paste” button appears, click on it and paste the copied symbol.

The pattern can be enlarged, duplicated and moved to the right place.

You can change the color of the pattern because it is recognized as text in the editor. Click on it and select the desired text from the palette.

Depending on the type of text, the symbol may change. True, in this case, the pattern again becomes small, it must again be enlarged and moved to the right place. And the size is limited - if with the classic style you can increase the pattern to the maximum, then in the rest the increase is negligible.

Symbols can be used as frames and patterns for photos, and can also be used to make a pattern.

Erase a part of the background with an eraser

You can make an interesting pattern with an eraser — first, select a photo and apply a solid background over it (the very first life hack). Then we go to coolsymbol.com and select the desired pattern for the frame, for example, a square (described in the previous paragraph). We impose a square in the place where it will be necessary to develop part of the photo, for example, where the face is.

Now take the eraser tool (for this we go back to the drawing panel) and click on the eraser icon. Erase part of the photo. It turns out such a sticker effect. Can be used to arrange a swipe in stories.

Pattern (stripes, circles and other patterns)

Here we go back to coolsymbol.com. First, we make a solid background, then go to coolsymbol and select the appropriate pattern for the pattern. Copy, paste as text, select the desired color.

Now zoom in and do it a few times until the whole background is filled with squares. Elements cannot be copied into stories, so each square must be inserted as a separate text and then enlarged / moved. You can make smaller squares so that the lines are not as thick, but then you need more squares. Change the color of the background and squares until you get what you need.

An example of using : this is how you can make a background for a story where you want to share a post.

The outline on the photo

You can make a doodle effect using markers. Add a photo from the gallery to the background, then go into drawing mode and select a marker. You can use plain or neon.

Select the thickness of the brush (slider on the left). You need subtle touches. And we start drawing.

Patterns with a brush

Open a photo in the gallery and draw any pattern. For example, coils. You can choose from a regular marker, a neon marker, or a highlighter marker. Neon looks better. The main thing is that the brush should be smaller.

Then very carefully erase what comes in the photo (it may not work the first time). As a result, you need to achieve this effect:

You can experiment, everything is limited by your imagination and ability to draw. The drawing tool in stories takes some getting used to.

Translucent gradient

Hidden story function

  1. Adding a photo from the gallery.
  2. Then we swipe to the right, as if we want to scroll through the photo.
  3. A translucent gradient appears and overlays over the photo.

Effects

You can apply animated and static effects on top of photos or videos in stories, for example, glitch effect, mosaic, multiple faces, duotone, bokeh, golden dust. This feature is clearly peeped from Tik-Tok.

To add effects, you need to upload a photo for the background from the gallery and click on the star smiley icon.

Full screen words

Not to say that this is a very original idea, but there is something in it. At least it’s clear what the main message of the stories is and what the emphasis is on. We take a picture for the background from the gallery, fill it completely with color, then erase part of it with an eraser and repeat the main word or several words on the remaining part many times. You can add a couple of patterns.

Conclusion

There are few functions and tools in the story editor, but if you use our life hacks and use your imagination, you can expand its capabilities a little. Perhaps you will come up with new ideas based on ours, and you will be able to get the most out of the editor.

Hidden features of Instagram - Daily Poster

A bunch of tips to get Instagram like a pro and post stories like a travel blogger.

Stories with a beautiful solid background

There is a difficult way: choose a brush and paint over the entire screen with it for a long time. And there is a way five times easier.

How to Add a picture to your story, select any color for the brush, press and hold your finger - now there is a solid color background.

Stories with color filters

Photos with a color translucent filter are obtained in almost the same way.

How to Add a picture to the story, choose any color for the brush, but then switch to the marker. Press and hold your finger on the screen - there is a photo with a color filter.

Beautiful stories with a gradient

In addition to a solid background, there is another beautiful option - a background with a gradient, like in a story with text.

How to Go to the text story, select a background and write one word. Click next and delete the text - you have an empty gradient on which you can add pictures in the same way as in the previous paragraph.

A real palette for those who don't have enough colors

Are there only 27 standard colors in stories? In fact, there is a whole palette to find any color at all.

How to make Hold your finger on the color bar and choose something you like.

Stories collages that everyone dreamed of

The main question of all Instagrammers is how to make a story collage. You can download an application with a bunch of templates, or you can do the following.

How to Open a story, add a picture, for example, a colored background. Then go to the photo gallery, select a photo, click the "Share" button, and then "Copy". Return to Instagram - a pop-up window will appear with the copied photo, click on it - it lies on top of the first picture. Repeat to infinity.

As well as collages with videos

Several small videos are added to stories in almost the same way. The sequence of actions in this case is different.

How to Add a picture to the story, for example, a colored background, click on the sticker icon, and then on the round icon with the photo icon. Only in the gallery, select not a photo, but a video.

Two cameras per story for reaction videos

To record a story in the My Reaction to Anything genre, you need to quickly switch from the main camera to the front camera. That's how the genre works. There is a special button for this, but it is located in such a place that it is easier to break your index finger. Here is an alternative way.

How to Tap the screen twice quickly while recording, the camera will switch. Repeat to infinity.

Bokeh for phones that don't have bokeh

Owners of older iPhones and Androids can't be happier with the beautiful blurring of the background when taking a selfie with the front camera. But the disadvantage can be compensated in the Instagram camera.

How to Go to the "Focus" tab in the camera and see if the selfie looks better if the background is blurred.

Boomerangs for those who don't have a Boomerang

Live Photos on iPhones is an underrated feature. Instead of one photo, she makes a short video, from which they then choose the right moment. And another underestimated feature is boomerangs, because they are simply constantly forgotten about. It's not scary, because boomerangs can be obtained from Live Photos.

How to Add a Live Photo to your story, hold your finger on the screen or press it hard - the photo will turn into a short looped video.

Stories that can't be forwarded to anyone (well, almost)

Maybe your stories are secret and you don't want your followers to send them to anyone. Of course, you can't make it so that random people don't see them at all, because you can always take a screenshot. But at least complicate this operation to the maximum.

How to Go to the camera, click on the gear and turn off the "Allow sharing" option

Comments that are no longer needed

You may think that comments are a thing of the past decade and have no place in today's social media. There are many ways to remove them from your profile.

How to do First, go to Settings - "Privacy & Security" - "Manage Comments" and choose who can leave comments under posts. Second, disable comments before publishing a new post. To do this, go to the advanced settings at the very bottom of the publishing screen. Thirdly, turn off replies to stories: on the camera screen, click on the gear and turn off replies.

Weird tags you don't want to see on your profile

Luckily, Instagram doesn't tell all your friends that you've been tagged in a bad party photo. Unfortunately, friends can still see the photos you're tagged in on their profile. This is a solvable problem.

How to Go to settings - "Privacy and security" - "Photos and videos with you" and hide all the photos that you do not like in the last menu. But be careful: this will remove the marks on the photos forever!

Unsubscribing from beauty salons, which is twice as easy

Shops, beauty salons and people who subscribe to 2500 people, you do not need, because they do not interact with your content and thereby reduce reach. There are two ways to unsubscribe them from yourself: a difficult one - go to the profile and block it - and simpler.

How to Go to the subscribers screen, click on the three dots next to the nickname and on "Unfriend". Save two taps!

Real web punk description

Profile description supports a bunch of weird fonts not found in standard keyboard layouts. What if you always wanted a nice description like "𝖒𝖔𝖘𝖈𝖔𝖜 𝖌𝖔𝖑𝖉𝖊𝖓 𝖌𝖗𝖗𝖗𝖑" but didn't know how to write it. And very simple.

How to make Go to igfonts.io, come up with a cool description in English and choose the best font.

Invisible mode (to hide from your crash)

In 2008, we asked friends how to hide our online on VKontakte. In 2019-m this is more relevant on Instagram.

How to do Go to settings - "Privacy and security" - "Network status" and turn it off. But after that you will not see your friends online either.

Likes you forgot about a long time ago

There are a lot of saved posts to make moodboards. The problem is that not all likes are added to saves. And it's good that there is also a list of likes.

How to do Go to settings - "Account" - "Posts you like".

Instagram editor as a replacement for VSCO

Instagram has a good photo editor, but there is one drawback: it does not save photos to memory. But the disadvantage is easy to get around.

How to Turn on airplane mode, process the photo, upload it and wait for the message that the post cannot be loaded. During this time, Instagram will save the processed picture to memory.

Your entire Instagram archive

Maybe Instagram is your life and it would be nice to keep it in a safe place. Or maybe you just decided to leave? Then download the entire Instagram with photos and messages to your laptop memory.

How to do Go to settings - "Privacy and security" - "Download data".
