When scrolling through your contact list on Telegram, you might find a few unknown contacts. Also, there are times when Telegram also sends notifications that one of your contacts joined Telegram, but you don't recognize the contact.
In such cases, you would want to delete the contact immediately, and you don't know how. This guide will walk you through deleting Telegram contacts on different platforms.
Telegram is available on all major platforms like Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows. When you sign in to Telegram on any platform, it syncs all the contacts from the platform to your Telegram account.
If you signed in to your Telegram account on someone else's computer or phone, you'd have most of their contacts in your account.
It's not always user-friendly for Telegram to sync contacts from multiple devices, and it's another reason why you might want to stop using Telegram.
You can delete a contact from your Telegram account on any platform. Also, when you delete a contact on Telegram, you'll still have the contact on your phone but deleted from your Telegram account. However, if you want to delete a contact permanently, you'll have to delete contacts from your iPhone, Android, Windows, or Mac device.

Unfortunately, you can't delete multiple Telegram contacts on macOS. However, follow these steps if you want to delete all the contacts from your Telegram account on iOS and iPadOS.

Deleting contacts on both is similar if you access Telegram on Windows PC or a web browser.
Follow these steps to delete a single Telegram contact from your Windows PC and web browser.
You can't delete multiple Telegram contacts on Windows or the newest web version. Nevertheless, you can delete them using Telegram's legacy version.
Here's how you can switch to the old version and delete multiple contacts on Telegram web.
The Telegram contact(s) will disappear from all platforms when you delete them on one platform. You'll have to add them manually if you want them back to your Telegram account.
Having these unknown contacts on your Telegram might not be appropriate for you, so luckily you can remove them.
When you create a Telegram account, all the contacts on your phone get synced to the application. These synced contacts are accessible on any device running your Telegram account because it’s a cloud-based service.

You can delete one or more Telegram contacts at a time. Besides, when you delete the contacts, they (contacts) will not be notified. So, here’s how to delete contacts on Android devices.
Step 1: Open the Telegram app on your Android.
Step 2: Tap on the hamburger menu at the top left and select Contacts.
Step 3: Now, search and tap on the account you want to delete.
Then, click on the contact’s profile.
Step 4: Now, tap on the three dots at the top right corner and select Delete Contact.
We recommend deleting the chat before deleting the contact.

This is the fastest way to delete contacts from Telegram at once. Follow along.

Step 3: Under Contacts, toggle off Sync Contact.

The steps for deleting contacts on Telegram on iOS are slightly different than the Android ones. Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Open the Telegram app and go to the Contacts tab.
Step 2: Tap on the search bar to find the contact you want to delete.
Step 3: Go to their details page and tap on their user avatar in the upper right corner.
Step 4: Now, go to Edit, select Delete Contact, and tap on Done.
Step 5: Finally, select Delete Contact to confirm.
That’s all. The contact you delete will be removed from Telegram’s contact book. To remove all contacts simultaneously, check the next section.
Step 1: Open the Telegram app and go to the Settings tab.
Step 2: Tap on ‘Privacy and Security’ and go to Data Settings.
Step 3: Tap ‘Delete Synced Contacts’.

Further, you can directly disable contact syncing on Telegram using iPhone to avoid contact sync or the notification altogether.
Step 1: Open the Telegram app and go to the Settings tab.
Step 2: Tap on the ‘Privacy and Security’ and go to Data Settings.
Step 3: Under Contacts, toggle off Sync Contacts.
Note: When you delete synced contacts, you will lose access to synced Telegram contacts only and not your phone contacts.
The steps for this are slightly different when compared to Android or iOS, but the steps are quite similar. However, there are certain limitations to the desktop application, which we will overcome by using Telegram web. Let’s begin.
Step 1: Open the Telegram Desktop app and click on the hamburger menu in the upper left corner.
Step 2: Go to Contacts.
Step 3: Now find the contact you want to remove from Telegram and tap on the profile.
Step 4: Go to Contact’s Profile and click Delete Contact.
Step 5: Select Delete in the prompt to confirm.
That’s all there is to it. You can use Telegram desktop and Telegram web to do this. Mind you, once you delete a contact from the app, the contact’s phone number and other details will not be removed from your phone’s contact list.
To remove a contact from the phone’s contact list, you need to follow the traditional way of deleting contacts from the phone.
You can’t delete multiple contacts on the Telegram desktop. So, we will be using Telegram Web to execute this. Let’s proceed.

Step 3: Now, switch to the older version.
Step 4: Then, click on Contacts.
Step 5: Choose Edit and select the contacts you want to remove from Telegram.

There you go. You have removed unwanted contacts using Telegram Web.
There are many ways to delete your Telegram contacts, one at a time or all at once. Contact lists in Telegram and in the built-in phone book on a smartphone work independently of each other. After deleting a person in the application, his number will remain in the device's memory. And vice versa: if you delete a user in your smartphone contacts, he will remain in Telegram until you delete him from there.

In the mobile and desktop applications, contacts can only be deleted one at a time. But there is a way that allows you to erase several contacts at a time - through the web version of Telegram. At the same time, there is no limit on the number of deleted entries - you can select and erase at least 10, at least 100 contacts.
Open the Telegram web version in any browser by clicking on the link. Log in using your smartphone (“Settings” → “Devices” → “Scan QR code”).
Click on the menu icon in the top left corner and select Switch to Old Version.
Go back to the menu by clicking on the icon with three bars, and then open Contacts.
Click Edit to edit, select the contacts you want to delete and click Delete. Please note that there will be no confirmation of deletion - after clicking on the Delete button, contacts will be deleted from your Telegram account on all devices.

On an iPhone or iPad:

How to remove a contact from the list if you do not know him and how does this happen? This happens if you log into your account from someone else's device. The numbers are pulled from the owner's phone book. There is no point in deleting them if you use someone else's gadget temporarily. If you are sure you want to permanently delete a user, do everything as we described above, including deleting the chat. Once the unwanted contact is gone from the app, go to your address book and delete it there too if you find it.
To prevent the user from sending messages anymore, block him in Telegram. Blocked contacts won't know they've been blocked, but their messages will stop bothering you. The block option is in the same menu list as delete. Unlike deleted users, who cannot always be restored, blocked users will get a second chance by using the "unblock" button in the contact's settings menu.
