Starting in 2017, WhatsApp began allowing users to delete their sent messages with a feature called "Delete for everyone". There are a couple of caveats to how it works - like that you have to delete your sent message within a certain timeframe. Still, here's everything you need to know.

Update and open the latest version of the WhatsApp app on your phone and follow these steps:

Go to the chat with the message you wish to delete.
Tap and hold the message, then choose Delete from the menu.
You can also select more messages to delete multiple messages at once.
Then, tap Delete, and then tap Delete for Everyone.

Tip: Tapping Delete for Me instead of Delete for Everyone will only delete the message for you. Your recipient will still see it.

How long do you have to delete a message?

Even if you managed to delete the message in the first minutes after sending, this does not mean that the message has not yet been read. The text of the messages may appear on the lock screen of the recipient's phone.

Deleting a conversation completely is even easier. Here is what you need to do for this:

How to permanently delete a WhatsApp conversation

You cannot do this on your own. Requires admin-level access to the application with an encrypted login key.

Activate airplane mode or turn off the Internet.
Go to the "Basic" tab of your Apple account.
Select date and time settings.
Disable the “Automatic” option next to the “Date and time” item.

Other conditions and features of this option in WhatsApp

We have already said about the need to install the latest version of the program for the option to work successfully. But there is one more condition: the message must be sent no later than 60 minutes ago. Is it possible to delete a message in Whatsapp until it has been read, but on the condition that more than an hour has passed? No, in this case, you can only erase the text on your own. Sometimes it takes a lot of time to find what you wrote in a general chat. In order not to engage in endless rewinding of the dialogue tape, find your messages with a search. For this:

All attachments that you have ever received and opened on your device are saved to the memory card in the Whatsapp/Media folder. When deleting a letter with an attachment, the corresponding file is cleared from the directory. If you have deleted the chat, but have not yet closed the program, this file will still be in the Media folder - minimize the messenger and find a picture, video or office document through the PC;

Deleting or clearing a chat

WhatsApp provides two options "Delete Chat" and "Clear Chat". The user must distinguish between them.
