  1. Go to the Instagram user’s Story.
  2. Tap the filter’s name in the top-left corner of the screen.
  3. When a pop-up box appears, select “View effect.”
  4. Select either “Try it” or “Save effect.”

Keep in mind that a single Instagram Story lasts 24 hours, so if it has expired, you might not be able to find the exact filter. You can try browsing the Instagram filter database instead.

Method 2 – Search by Category

This is probably the most fun way to search Instagram filters. But be warned that if you don’t know precisely what you’re looking for, you might spend hours trying out filters—and having a fantastic time.

Here’s how it works.

  1. Launch the Instagram app on your iPhone.
  2. Swipe right to open the camera.
  3. Browse through integrated filters at the bottom of the screen. To find more, swipe left until you see a magnifying glass icon.
  4. Tap the magnifying glass icon to open “Effect gallery.”
  5. Use the search bar icon to enter specific terms, such as “glasses” or “elf ears.”

How to save and download an Instagram filter to your camera

1. While in the Effect Gallery, tap on a filter you'd like to try and wait for the preview page to open. 

2. Find and tap the download icon located at the bottom right of the screen to save it to your camera.

Quick tip: While testing a filter you can also tap the name of the filter on the bottom of the screen to bring up an option to Save Effect, which you can tap to save the effect to your camera.

  • You may not have enough memory on your phone, delete apps/files to free up space
  • try logging into Instagram on another smartphone (iPhone for example)
  • try VPN
  • try to change the account country in the settings

Instagram masks disappeared or not saved/disappeared

If you kept a mask for yourself, the masks appeared and then disappeared - this happens very often. Why are they not saved? You may not have enough space on your phone. Or perhaps the author himself removed the mask or blocked it. What to do and how to return?

How to apply a filter on an Instagram photo

First, upload a photo to Instagram with the + button on the main screen. Then select the desired image from your phone's gallery and click the "Next" button. Use Instagram's built-in camera to take a photo, but it's usually easier to use your phone's camera.

If you keep the square format, put your fingertip on the photo to move it and get exactly the frame you want.

The grid lines that appear will help you adjust your visual composition. This is no accident a 3x3 grid; it helps to follow the classic “rule of thirds”.

Once you click "Next", the application will take you to the filter screen. When you click on any of the filter thumbnails at the bottom - Clarendon, for example - the app immediately applies that effect to the image. (This works exactly the same if you're posting a video.)

If you click on the same filter thumbnail a second time, Instagram will reduce the intensity of the filter to achieve a more subdued look.

If you're taking a photo with an iPhone, click on the small square icon to add a simple frame.

Before selecting "Next", click "Edit" at the bottom of the screen. And adjust the alignment of the photo: contrast and brightness, warmth, saturation and color, and a few other categories. The setting is changed by linear sliders or buttons. nine0003

How to save and swap effects

As you get more experience with effects, you'll start developing favorites that you'll come back to over and over again.

You can hide filters by clicking on the checkmark. This way, your favorite filters will appear first and you won't have to wade through the ones you never use.

Unnecessary options can also be hidden without a menu. On the filter page, press and hold any thumbnail for a few seconds. The thumbnail will become slightly larger and ready to be moved.
