How do i repost videos to my instagram story

How to Repost a Video on Instagram in 3 Different Ways

  • You can repost a video on Instagram from another user in several ways, using the official Instagram app, a screen recording, or a third-party app.
  • To repost a video to your Instagram Story, tap the paper plane icon underneath the video post you want to share.
  • There's no built-in way to repost Instagram videos to your profile — you'll need to make a screen recording of it, or use a third-party app like Repost.
  • Make sure you get permission to repost the video from its original source — it'll help you avoid copyright strikes, and is just good manners.

Not all Instagram posts have to be 100% original — in fact, some of the biggest accounts out there are dedicated to reposting other people's work. The best ones, of course, get permission before reposting anything, and always give proper credit.

There are several ways to repost videos you find on Instagram. The easiest way involves sharing the video to your Instagram Story, which will let your followers view it for a full day.

If you prefer a more permanent repost, you can save the video using a screen recording and then post it like any other Instagram post. This will put it on your profile alongside your other photos and videos.

There are also third-party apps like Repost, which convert someone else's Instagram post into one of your own.

Here are three ways to repost an Instagram video, using an iPhone or Android phone.

How to repost a video on Instagram by sharing it to your Story

1. Open the Instagram app and go to the post you want to share.

2. Directly beneath the post, tap the paper airplane icon. This will let you share it with someone via direct message, or repost it to your Story.

3. In the pop-up menu, select the option to "Add post to your story," which should appear at the top of the list.

4. On the next screen, the post will appear in a Story draft. You can add text, stickers, or other content as you would with any other Story.

5. Tap "Send To" at the bottom of the screen, and in the pop-up, select "Share" beside "Your Story."

When you share a post using this method, anyone who views your Story can tap on it to go to the original posting.

How to repost a video on Instagram by screen recording it

If you want to post another user's video to your profile without downloading an extra app, you can simply record your phone's screen while the video post is playing.

With this method, you can crop, edit, and shorten the screen recording so it appears on your profile just as you want it to. However, make sure you don't crop out the username of the original poster, and be sure to credit them in your caption.

Both iPhone and Android phones have screen recording features, usually built right into the phone. Check out our articles on the subject:

How to repost an Instagram post, Stories, and videos

One of the best ways to increase engagement and grow your following is to build a community by reposting photos, Stories, and videos you think your audience will enjoy.

Instagram is one of the few social media platforms where you’re discouraged from sharing posts belonging to others. There’s no easy way (yet) to share photos, videos, or Stories on the native Instagram platform, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

If finding and reposting awesome content created by others is more your speed, read on. We’ll talk about how to easily repost photos and videos on Instagram and avoid legal issues.

Is it legal to repost on Instagram?

While it seems like the internet is a lawless land, where folks share all kinds of content without giving it much thought, the truth is that it is illegal to repost copyright-protected content that you don’t have permission to share.

According to Instagram’s Community Guidelines, you should only share photos and videos that you’ve taken or that you have the right to share. If you do want to share content created by others, always ask permission to repost the photo or video on your Instagram, give proper credit within your caption, and tag the image with their Instagram handle.

You're probably taking tons of iPhone photos

Reposting an Instagram Story

Instagram Stories let you create and share multiple photos, videos, polls, and other content that is put together in a slideshow format for your followers to watch over the course of 24 hours. Using Instagram Stories is essential to growing an engaged following on Instagram, and reposting Stories is a great way to build up your community.

How to repost a Story on Instagram

As a general rule, Instagram has never been about sharing content posted by other users, but in the summer 2018, the platform rolled out a new feature — the ability to share Stories you’re tagged with on your own Instagram account. This has been a game changer in many ways, making Instagram Stories one of the best ways to connect with your followers.

If a friend tags you in one of their Stories, you will get a direct message from Instagram letting you know. For the next 24 hours, you’ll be able to repost the Story.

Here’s how to repost an Instagram Story you’ve been tagged in:

  1. Go to Instagram > Direct Messages.
  2. Open the message that says “@username has mentioned you in their story.”
  3. Tap Add This to Your Story.
  4. In the Story editor, you can add stickers, additional tags, and text, just as if it were a Story you created yourself.
  5. Tap your profile icon with Your Story written underneath.

Your new Story is live!

Can I repost an Instagram Story I’m not tagged in?

If you’re using the native Instagram app, you can only save and repost Stories that you’re tagged in. When someone tags you in a Story, they are essentially giving you permission to repost it.

If you have verbal permission to repost an Instagram Story but haven’t been tagged in it, there’s an iPhone workaround that you can use with your built-in screen recorder.

Here’s how to record someone’s Story and save it to your Camera Roll:

  1. Go to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls.
  2. Scroll down until you see Screen Recording and tap the plus sign. This will add the screen recorder to your swipe up screen, where you’ll also find your flashlight, camera, and other shortcuts.
  3. When you want to record an Instagram Story, just swipe up and tap the red record button. Swipe back down to return to the Story. Your screen recorder will record everything on the screen, including sound, until you swipe up and tap the Record icon again.

Screen recordings are automatically saved to Camera Roll. Once you’ve saved someone’s Instagram Story as a video, you can edit it and repost it to your own Story. You should always give proper credit by tagging the original Instagram account, and again, you should never repost someone’s Story without permission.

Can I see who shared my Instagram Story?

As you already know, whenever you’re tagged in someone’s Instagram Story, you receive a direct message letting you know that you have been mentioned. You will get this message whether you’re being tagged in one of the user’s original Stories or one of your own Stories that they are reposting.

However, if someone creates a screen recording of your Story, saves it to their Camera Roll, and then reposts it, you won’t be notified unless they voluntarily tag you. This is because they have essentially created a new Story using your content. If someone shares your Story in a private message, you won’t be notified either.

How to repost an Instagram post

There are definitely ways to repost photos and videos on Instagram, and as long as you have permission from the post’s original creator, it’s totally fine to do so. None of the reposting methods available are completely straightforward, as Instagram is primarily focused on creating original content, not sharing the content of others.

Here are some ways that we’ve found to repost photos and videos to your Instagram feed or Stories.

How to repost a post on Instagram

Probably the simplest way to repost photos and videos on Instagram is to take a screenshot or make a screen recording of the post you want to share. We already talked about taking a screen recording using the feature in your iPhone’s settings.

To take a screenshot of an Instagram photo, simply navigate to the post you want to share, and hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time. This will capture whatever is on your screen and save it to your Camera Roll.

After the screenshot is taken, tap on its preview to crop the image and get rid of the Instagram logo, comments, and other distractions. Once you’ve edited the photo, you can repost it to your Instagram feed.

How to tag someone on Instagram

Whether you’re posting an Instagram post or sharing a Story, you can tag accounts to alert them to your post and help expand your reach. Below, you’ll find instructions for tagging someone in your Instagram posts and Stories.

How do you tag someone on Instagram?

Tagging accounts in your Instagram posts is easy. You can tag up to 20 accounts for each Instagram post. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Upload your post to Instagram like you normally would.
  2. After editing and/or adding filters to your post, you will see an option labeled Tag People under the caption box.
  3. Tap the photo and start typing the name of the account you want to tag. Instagram will help you out by auto-populating suggestions. You can tag up to 20 people using this method.
  4. When you have finished tagging accounts, tap Done.
  5. Tap Share to add the post to your feed. Any accounts that you’ve tagged will be notified.

How to tag someone on Instagram Story

You can also tag people in Instagram Stories. Anyone you tag will be able to share that Story with their own followers. Here’s how to tag an account using the text tool or the @ sticker:

  1. Create your Instagram Story.
  2. When you’re typing text as an overlay, you can tap the Aa icon and simply use the @ symbol to tag someone.
  3. If you want your tag to stand out more than in the above option, tap the sticker icon and choose @mention.
  4. Now start typing the name of the account you want to tag, and Instagram will find it for you.
  5. Tap Your Story at the bottom of the screen to share your Story.
  6. The accounts that you tag will be notified and be able to share your Story.

Can you repost an Instagram post to your Stories?

Yes! Instagram rolled out a feature last year that makes this very easy to do using the native Instagram app. If you find an Instagram photo or video that you want to repost in your

Stories, just do this:

  1. Navigate to the post and tap on the paper airplane icon below the post.
  2. From there, tap on the plus sign to add the post to your Story Editor.

You can customize the post in your Stories making it smaller or larger, adding stickers or text. When you finally share it with your followers, Instagram will automatically tag the post’s original creator.

Can you repost Instagram posts with captions?

The easiest way to repost Instagram posts with captions that you have permission to share is to use a third-party app. The most popular of these is Repost for Instagram, allowing you to repost with just a few taps.

Repost for Instagram adds a small watermark to the corner of the post, providing attribution to the original creator. You should also tag the creator both on the image and in the captions. Once you’ve got the post uploaded in Repost for Instagram, you can copy and paste the original caption to add to your post.

Can you repost your own post on Instagram?

You can definitely repost your own photo or video on Instagram. In fact, this is a great way to repurpose your content. You just need to be careful that you’re not reposting the same photo or video so many times that it gets old to your followers.

You can use the Repost for Instagram app mentioned above, which will tag you in its included watermark. Your alternative option would be to screenshot your photo, crop it in a photo editing app, and repost that way.

Until Instagram embraces sharing content across its platform, you’ll have to get creative with how you do it. The most important things to remember when reposting on Instagram are to always ask permission and to give proper attribution. If you’ve covered your bases legally, Instagram is perfectly happy with you sharing the best content you can find across your feed and your Stories.

    It is still impossible to repost a video on Instagram, despite frequent updates to the mobile application and the browser version of the social network - developers are still forced to look at the pages of services for reposting and uploading content to the device, and then add videos to the story or news feed and attach links to the author below or above, that is, make a mention.

    It is very problematic to call such methods of social activity convenient, but those who are interested in promotion will find a way to get out. And the instructions below will help you not to get lost in the interface!

    Video repost using applications

    There are plenty of applications on the network that cope with reposting other people's video publications on a personal page: the same Repost For Instagram is presented both in the Play Market and in the App Store and copes with all tasks in a semi-automatic mode - adds author's text and links to the original post, transfers hashtags and additional information.

    The listed functionality is enough to repost a video on Instagram to your profile - you just need to follow the instructions provided by the developers.

    In addition to Repost For Instagram for iOS and Android, third-party assistants have also been released: more about this in the article "A selection of programs and applications for reposting on Instagram".

    Video repost via download

    The classic way to repost a video (and other content) on Instagram is to use third-party tools, special downloaders that can find and upload materials to a hard drive, internal or external memory of mobile equipment by a link added to a text field.

    Service for downloading videos from Instagram Instagrabber

    Downloaded videos are played without restrictions and are freely added to the news feed. The only thing to deal with is adding links to the author of the original publication - otherwise, instead of a repost, a standard video will appear that violates the rights of copyright holders.

    How to repost a video on Instagram Stories

    If it is impossible to repost a video on Instagram directly to the feed due to restrictions still in force on the territory of the social network, then Stories are made many times faster, and even with links saved, leading to the author's page.

    Content is uploaded to history both in an official way (through the context menu), and in other scenarios: as an option, by uploading the materials you like to the internal memory of mobile equipment with iOS and Android.

    How to repost a video to Instagram stories so that it plays

    Posts added as a repost to stories are not automatically played: instead of videos, only a preview (start frame) with a link to the author and tools for editing and adding widgets appearing on top and other materials.

    The problem of reposting a video to Instagram stories so that it plays when opened is solved by already familiar methods - by downloading special software that can prepare a repost (like Repost for Instagram) or by uploading content through Instagrabber.

    1. Download video from Instagram to your phone using a service or application;
    2. Start the story editor in the Instagram app;
    3. Add the downloaded video and the author's mention to the new story;
    4. Post a story.

    Regardless of the choice, videos in stories will start playing automatically, and a link to the author will have to be added manually.

    Repost video from Reels

    Repost video from Reels to stories on Instagram is officially and fully supported: content starts playing immediately if you repeat the following algorithm: central access;

  • Scroll through and turn on the appropriate video, click on the "Share" button on the right;
  • From the menu that appears, select the item related to adding content to Stories.
  • Wait for the appearance of the graphical editor, correct the details and upload the materials.
  • Video repost in Reels

    Repost in the standard way

    You can repost a video on Instagram to a story using the app's built-in method, but videos will not play when creating Stories using the method of reposting other people's publications through the "Share" button. The image will not move further than the preview.

    Video repost in stories

    Therefore, you will only have to rely on downloading content (through the same Instagrabber) and turning to thematic services for help. The second option is a little more practical - there will be a chance to make the link to the author more clearly and add additional visual details.

    How to repost a video on a computer

    The browser version of Instagram does not even allow uploading videos to the news feed, and therefore very expected problems will arise with the design of video reposts - instead of the suggestion “add a post to Stories”, only a list with recommended recipients for forwarding will appear post via Direct.

    But it is possible to get around technical limitations: you will need an Android operating system emulator (BlueStacks or similar - Nox App Player, MEmu) and a service for uploading materials from social network pages - Instagrabber. After preparing the necessary tools, it is enough to repeat the following algorithm of actions:

    • Run the emulator, download the latest version of Instagram through the Play Market;
    • Log in to the social network by filling in the text fields "Login" and "Password";
    • Copy the video link through the emulator and upload the content using the Instagrabber service.
    • Reopen BlueStacks or Nox App Player and make a "repost" (or rather, upload the video to the feed with information about the author).

    In addition to emulators, auto-posting services such as SMMPlanner, SMMbox, Livedune also handle reposting on a PC. Which of the listed assistants to choose depends on the tasks and the current budget.
