Don’t want people to know the last time you were on Telegram? Follow this guide to hide your “last seen” status from some or all of your contacts.
Image Source: CanvaTelegram allows its users to hide their “last seen” status, which refers to the last time they used the app. You can hide it from all of your contacts at once, or hide it from a select few contacts. By concealing your last seen time, you can ensure no one knows when you were last online on Telegram. We’ll show you how to do it on an iPhone or Android device below.
In both Android and iOS, hiding the “last seen” status is virtually the same, except for the different location of the settings option. Therefore, no matter which device you’re using, you can hide the status the same way.
To hide your “last seen” status on Telegram, follow these steps:
- Open the Telegram app.
- Navigate to the settings. On an iPhone, tap the gear icon located in the lower-right corner. On an Android device, tap the three lines in the top-left corner.
- Tap on the Privacy and Security.
- Then, go to Last Seen & Online.

Here you’ll have three options to choose who can see your timestamp. Let’s briefly discuss what each option does:
- Everybody: No one will be able to see your “last seen” status with this option.
- My Contacts: This option hides the “last seen” status from only your contacts.
- Nobody: Anyone will be able to see your “last seen” status.

Adding contacts to the exception list will hide Telegram’s “last seen” status for those contacts. To add new users to the exception list, tap Add Users or Groups. To remove one, tap on the Edit option in the top-right corner of the Never Share window. Then, tap on the minus sign (–) located in front of the contact name and hit Delete.

Hopefully, you’ll now be able to foolproof your privacy by hiding your online status in Telegram. Prying eyes will no longer be able to see the last time you were online. Although you might consider Telegram more secure than other instant messaging apps, that’s not necessarily the case. With the end-to-end encryption off, numerous disclaimers in the privacy policy, and many other reasons, it’s not always as safe as you think.

How to hide the last seen status on Telegram (On iPhone and Android)
Like other messaging apps, Telegram also allows users to hide their last seen status to keep it private. Moreover, there are multiple options like hiding the last seen from everyone or certain people in your contacts! This prevents people from checking your online status.
If you are still learning, read this article to understand how to hide the last seen status on Telegram using your iPhone, Android, and desktop!
- Open Telegram.
- Tap Settings at the bottom right.
- Go to Privacy & Security → Last Seen & Online.
- Select Nobody to hide your last seen status.
You can also select My Contacts to hide your last seen from people other than in your Contacts.
Note: The process remains similar for all devices, including Android and desktop, except for the Settings option. If you do not see it at the bottom, you’ll find the hamburger menu (three-line icon) at the top left. Tap it and go to Settings.
However, if you only want to hide your last seen from specific people or show it to a specific group rather than all your contacts, you can easily do it! Read to know more.
If you have chosen Nobody in the previous step, you will be allowed to use a feature called Always Share With. This will allow you to select the people who can see your last seen. If you have chosen Everyone or My Contacts, you will see the Never Share With option. This will allow you to select people who can never see your last seen status.
In order to select specific people, follow these steps.
- Open Telegram → tap the Settings at the bottom right.
- Go to Privacy & Security → Last Seen & Online.
- Select the appropriate option under WHO CAN SEE MY TIMESTAMP

However, there’s a catch! Read on to know more.
Telegram does not completely hide your last seen status like WhatsApp. If you have hidden your last seen status from someone, they can still receive the following last seen updates from you:
- Recently: You were online on Telegram less than 3 days ago.
- Within a week: You were online on Telegram between 3 and 7 days ago.
- Within a month: You were online on Telegram over the last month, but not the past week.
- A long time ago: You were not online on Telegram for the entire past month.
That’s it!
You can hide your last seen from everyone or only a few people using these steps. One downside of Telegram is that it still gives rough updates about your last online status, despite hiding your last seen. For extra privacy, you may also want to enable two-factor authentication on Telegram.

How to hide the time of the last visit in Telegram?
Despite the safety and security of personal data, many Telegram users do not like it when their interlocutors display the exact time of their last stay online. We will tell you how to make sure that your friends do not see when you were last online.
In order to hide the information that you were online at a specific time, use the settings of the messenger itself.
- Log in to the application (picture of an airplane on a blue background) from a smartphone running Android, iOS or Windows.
- Press the menu button - three horizontal stripes in the upper left corner of the dialog box. Scroll down and select Settings. Click on Privacy (padlock icon).
- In the privacy section, you will see the Last Activity tab. “The time of my last activity is seen” - and an indication of the options: Everyone, My contacts, Nobody. Here you can select Nobody, but add exceptions for some friends. By selecting the Add button under "Always share with", specify who will know to the minute when you were online. This option will be active all the time, no matter what you set in the settings above.
It is convenient that you can adjust the parameters in detail, separately selecting the persons who will be aware of your "was online" status, and cutting off those who do not need to know about it at all.
Now the persons to whom you have restricted access to this information will only see the approximate time when you logged into the messenger: last seen recently, this month, and so on. However, the settings work in a two-way manner - you, too, will no longer be able to track when other users specifically entered Telegram.
Editing parameters is only possible from a mobile phone, but what you do on a smartphone will also work in the desktop version.
Detailed privacy settings
The undoubted advantage of Telegram is that it allows you to partially disable the time display function on the network. For example, some members of the community will not be able to access this information, while others will see it.
However, the shutdown feature is meaningless as messages and notifications continue to arrive on your smartphone. The status on the network is turned on when you enter the application: the functions of hidden surfing and the "invisible" mode in Telegram are not yet available, and encryption will not work. Alerts that are displayed on your screen in preview mode help out: in fact, the message has not been viewed, but you have already read it.
Account deletion
If you do not use the application for a long time, the account is automatically deleted along with chats, files, contacts. The standard period of inactivity after which you will be removed is 6 months. But in the profile settings, you can change this value from 1 month to a year. Such a feature helps to rid the program of "dead souls" by removing those who do not use the service.
