- WhatsApp users can chat without saving the number of a person in their phonebook via click to chat feature.
WhatsApp Tips and Tricks: WhatsApp app can be found installed on almost everyone's smartphone. And all the WhatsApp users must have observed that they can send message to or chat with people whose contact numbers are saved in the users contact list. Yes, that is in order to talk to any person outside your contact list you will have to first save his/her number. However, you might want to reach out to a business or service contact for a one-time chat and adding the number to your phonebook could lead to clutter. But, do you know that you can chat and message people not in your phone's contact list without saving their numbers? Yes, there is a feature in the WhatsApp app using which you can do so. WhatsApp click to chat feature allows you to begin a chat with someone without having their phone number saved in your phone's address book. As long as you know this person's phone number and they have an active WhatsApp account, you can create a link that will allow you to start a chat with them.
By clicking the link, a WhatsApp chat with the person automatically opens. It can be noted that WhatsApp click to chat works on both your phone and WhatsApp Web. Here are a few ways to initiate a WhatsApp chat without adding a phone number as a contact.
Create your own link
Use https://wa.me/<number> where the <number> is a full phone number in international format. Omit any zeroes, brackets, or dashes when adding the phone number in international format.
Examples:
Use: https://wa.me/1XXXXXXXXXX
Don't use: https://wa.me/+001-(XXX)XXXXXXX
Create your own link with a pre-filled message
The pre-filled message will automatically appear in the text field of a chat. Use https://wa.me/whatsappphonenumber?text=urlencodedtext where whatsappphonenumber is a full phone number in international format and urlencodedtext is the URL-encoded pre-filled message.
Example: https://wa.me/1XXXXXXXXXX?text=I'm%20interested%20in%20your%20car%20for%20sale
To create a link with just a pre-filled message, use https://wa.me/?text=urlencodedtext
Example: https://wa.me/?text=I'm%20inquiring%20about%20the%20apartment%20listing`
After clicking on the link, you will be shown a list of contacts you can send your message to.
Also, WhatsApp users can know that the process of creating your own link to chat is the same for both Android and iPhones.

How to send WhatsApp messages to unsaved contacts
By Rita El Khoury
Updated
So much faster than creating a new contact
Whenever you need to send a WhatsApp message to someone new, you typically need to add that person as a contact first and wait for the app to sync before you can start chatting. In the best-case senario, your app should sync within a few minutes, but some times it can take much longer.
A long wait sort of defeats the very purpose of an instant messenger.
Thanks to a few workarounds, you can easily bypass WhatsApp's restriction and start messaging your acquaintances without saving their details first. Here are a few ways that will come in handy in such situations.
The wa.me short URL allows you to publicly share your custom link, so people can messsage you on WhatsApp with a single click. You'll frequently find these shortened links on websites and online stores, but you can easily customize them for your personal use.
Here's how to do it:
- Open a browser on your phone or desktop and type the link: https://wa.me/cccxxxxxxxxxx in the address bar.
- Replace “ccc” with the country code of the recipient (which is a must) and “xxxxxxxxxx” with their phone number. Do not add the + sign or any other modifier, like dashes or brackets, for this link string to work. For instance, an Indian phone number with the country code +91 will look something like https://wa.me/919876xxxxxx. You can bookmark this short link for quicker access later on.
- After you go to this address, WhatsApp will ask you to press the Continue to chat button, which will direct you to the WhatsApp app installed on your phone or computer.

- A chat window will open, where you can start messaging as usual. In case the phone number isn’t registered on WhatsApp, the app will let you know with a pop-up message.
Some Android skins like MIUI and OxygenOS allow you to run multiple instances of messaging apps like WhatsApp to let you use two accounts simultaneously. If you have set up a second WhatsApp instance, the browser will ask you to pick one of the two after the third step, as shown above. Everything after that remains unchanged.
Even though WhatsApp’s official solution is pretty straightforward, not everyone is comfortable with tweaking URLs. As an alternative, you can use a third-party app to automate the entire process. You just need to enter the phone number.

WhatsDirect and Click to chat are the easiest apps we've found to create WhatsApp links. Simply enter the phone number, make sure the country code is correct, and start chatting on WhatsApp. The best part is that both apps are entirely free and don’t show ads or ask for any device permissions.

Installing these single-purpose apps is justifiable only if you often need to send WhatsApp messages to temporary acquaintances. For more infrequent use, you can instead use websites like whats-app-dialer.com and whapp.contact. These save you from fiddling with the URL in the first two steps above.

Use WhatsApp short links to send a message without saving the number
Another way to exchange messages with unsaved WhatsApp numbers is through the WhatsApp API. To get started, paste the following address into the address bar and replace "X" with your phone number. Here, the prefilled "91" refers to the country code. If you want to send a message to someone outside of India on WhatsApp, don't forget to change the country code as well.
https://wa.me/91XXXXXXXXXXXX
After pasting the URL with the phone number you want to send a message to, click Continue in Chat. The website will redirect you to that person's WhatsApp chat window and you can now send a message.
Send WhatsApp messages without adding a desktop contact
You can also use the WhatsApp API to start a new conversation on WhatsApp Web or Desktop. To get started, follow these steps:

As mentioned above, be sure to change the pre-filled country code "91" if you want to send a message to someone outside of India. Click the Continue Chat button to open the conversation window.
https://wa.me/91XXXXXXXXXXXX
2. When the confirmation message appears, click Open to open the chat window in WhatsApp Desktop. If you have installed WhatsApp Desktop, the browser will redirect you to the desktop application. nine0003
3. If you are not a WhatsApp Desktop user, you can click "use WhatsApp Web" to continue using the web version.
Use Siri shortcuts to send WhatsApp messages from iPhone
If you're an iPhone user, you can also rely on the excellent Siri shortcut to text unsaved WhatsApp numbers with ease. If you don't already have the Shortcuts app, you can download it from the App Store (free). Then do the following:
1. Visit this link on your iPhone and click "Add Shortcut" to download and install the "WhatsApp To Non Contact" Siri shortcut. After that, you don't need to do anything, as the shortcut will be installed automatically.
3. In the Shortcuts app, tap a shortcut to launch it from My Shortcuts. Alternatively, you can also use Siri and say "Launch WhatsApp Shortcut for Non-Contact" to access the same popup option to enter the recipient's phone number. nine0003
4. Enter the contact number in the label along with the country code and click "Done" in the upper right corner. You will then receive a privacy notice asking if you want to allow the shortcut to access WhatsApp. Click "Allow" on this notification.

WhatsApp is one of the most widely used messaging applications in the world. If you are using a smartphone, chances are you are using WhatsApp to send SMS to your friends and family. Since WhatsApp is free and runs on multiple platforms, it has become the most popular messaging service on the web in recent years. Even though apps like Telegram or Signal may offer better features and privacy, the sheer number of users on WhatsApp keeps people from switching to other instant messaging apps. nine0003
Although recently WhatsApp has been adding more features to the app such as UPI payments, calls using WhatsApp Web, etc., there are a few important features that are still missing. One of these features is the ability to send WhatsApp messages to unsaved contacts. If you want to send a message to someone who originally uses WhatsApp, you need to have their contact saved on your phone. There is no built-in option to enter a phone number when creating a new conversation. Instead, you can only select one of your saved contacts. nine0003

Why exchange messages with unsaved contacts on WhatsApp?
However, there are several workarounds that allow you to send messages about unsaved contacts in WhatsApp. This is especially useful when you want to send a message to someone while maintaining some privacy, in terms of opting out of posting your WhatsApp profile picture or status, depending on your privacy settings. You may have come across situations where you needed to text someone you don't know very well, or you needed to quickly share your location with a delivery manager. In such cases, it is easier and safer to send a WhatsApp message without saving their number as a contact on your phone. nine0003
Different ways to send WhatsApp messages to phone numbers not in your contact list
Depending on the platform(s) you use WhatsApp on, you can use several different ways to send messages to unsaved contacts in your phone book or address book on whatsapp. Some of the methods include using WhatsApp's own links to start a conversation within the app, while some of the methods use third-party apps and shortcuts that use the WhatsApp APIs to start a conversation with unsaved contacts or phone numbers. We will cover all these solutions divided into categories depending on the platform/OS you are using. nine0003
How to send a message to unsaved WhatsApp contacts on Android
There are two main ways to send unsaved WhatsApp contacts if you are using an Android smartphone or tablet. Both methods are simple and effective, so you can choose which one you want to use, or you can use both depending on the situation. Let's look at both methods.
1. Using the WhatsApp conversation link.
WhatsApp has a feature where you can share a link with your phone number with someone who wants to start a conversation with you. Using this link you can change your phone number to any number you want to send to whatsapp without saving them as a contact. nine0003
The link you need to use is as follows: http://wa.me/XXXXXXXXXXX
Just copy this link into a web browser like Chrome and replace 'X' with an international phone number that you want to send to whatsapp. Note that the first two digits are the country code followed by the mobile phone number. For example, if you want to send a message to someone in India, the link would look something like this: http://wa.me/91XXXXXXXXX where "91" is followed by a 10-digit mobile phone number. Once you've entered the numbers, click "Go" and you should now be automatically redirected to WhatsApp, where a conversation with the entered phone number will be opened.
2. Using a third party application.
If you think the previous method is complicated or you don't want to remember and type in a link every time you want to send a message to an unsaved contact, there are third party apps that automate the whole process for you. Although some of them can be found in the Play Store, we recommend using Click to Chat. We've been using the app for a while now, it's free, works flawlessly, and is lightweight. nine0003
Simply open the app after installing it and you will see a pop-up asking you to enter the country code as well as the phone number you want to send a WhatsApp message to. Just enter the required details and click "Open" and the message box will be launched. Click to Chat also offers some extra features like pasting from the clipboard directly or accessing numbers you've recently contacted, making your job easier. If you frequently send messages to unsaved contacts, we highly recommend that you install this application. nine0003
How to send a message to unsaved WhatsApp contacts on iOS
Just like on Android, there are two ways to send messages to unsaved WhatsApp contacts if you are using an iPhone. While the first method is simple, there is no third-party app on iOS that allows you to perform the same functionality as on Android. Instead, we'll use a Siri shortcut. Let's discuss both ways.
1. Using the WhatsApp conversation link.
This is the same method we used on Android. You can refer to the section above for detailed instructions, but all you have to do is paste the same link - http://wa.me/XXXXXXXXXXX in your iPhone's web browser and add the appropriate phone number to start a conversation . Since this is the official WhatsApp link, it works on both Android and iOS. nine0003
2. Using Siri Shortcuts.
Siri shortcuts are an incredibly powerful way to automate a lot of things on your iPhone. Using this tool, you can launch a custom shortcut that will allow you to start a WhatsApp conversation with an unsaved contact or phone number. However, before you can add this shortcut, you will need to go to your iPhone's Settings > Shortcuts > and enable "Allow untrusted shortcuts". Then get a shortcut from here. nine0003
Once you add a shortcut, you can see it in the Shortcuts app on your iPhone. Click on the three dots in the top right corner of the shortcut to customize it. Here you will see the "Recipient" field. If the field already has a value in the "Ask every time" line, click on it and select "Clear". The recipient field will now be empty. Here you need to enter the phone number where you want to send a WhatsApp message.
Enter a phone number with country code prefix and select Done. Then you just have to click on the shortcut and WhatsApp will open the conversation with the entered number. Please note that this whole shortcut customization process is just a one-time job. Next time you only have to go to the shortcut settings and enter the phone number you want to send a text message to and click on the shortcut. You can also customize the home screen icon to launch a shortcut easily, or set a shortcut to a contact. nine0003
How to send unsaved contacts to WhatsApp using WhatsApp Web
If you spend most of your day on your computer or laptop, chances are you use WhatsApp Web to view and reply to your WhatsApp messages directly from your computer instead of to constantly check your phone. If you want to send a message about an unsaved contact via WhatsApp Web, it's quite simple, both on Android and iOS.
All you have to do is use this particular link: http://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=XXXXXXXXXXXXX and just like in the link mentioned above, replace the characters at the end with the phone number, by to whom you want to send a WhatsApp message. The first two digits are the country code followed by the mobile phone number. For example, if you want to send a message to someone in India, the link will look something like this: http://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=91XXXXXXXXXX where "91" is followed by a 10-digit mobile phone number.
Once you have entered all the digits of your mobile phone number, simply enter the link in the address bar of any browser you are using and press Enter. You will now see a web page that will ask you if you want to start a chat with the entered number and ask for permission to open WhatsApp Web. Once you allow it, the conversation with the entered phone number will start on WhatsApp Web.
Why it's important not to save every WhatsApp contact
These are some of the ways you can message unsaved contacts or phone numbers on WhatsApp using your Android or iOS smartphone and even WhatsApp Web. As said earlier, it's not a good idea to keep all your contacts on your phone, especially if it's a stranger or someone you don't know very well.
You may end up compromising your privacy as they get access to your profile picture and status updates, which are quite private. Chances are, you might even forget to delete their contact after you're done, which means they'll still have access to your photos or any personal information you share. nine0003
Frequently asked questions about messaging with unsaved contacts on WhatsApp
Now that you know how easy it is to message unsaved contacts on WhatsApp and send text messages to a person without saving their phone number, you may have a few questions about this topic which we will try to answer.
1. Can I send a message to several unsaved contacts or phone numbers?
Sorry, you cannot send messages to multiple unsaved contacts and phone numbers at the same time. You will need to use one of the methods listed above to manually send messages to each contact and replace phone numbers afterwards after each individual message. This is time consuming if you want to send a message to multiple people at once, so in these scenarios it probably makes more sense to save the numbers as contacts and then broadcast the message right away. nine0003
2. Can I create a WhatsApp group without saving contacts or phone numbers?
The answer to this question is yes and no. You can create a WhatsApp group without saving all phone numbers as contacts by creating a group invite link and sending it individually using the methods listed above. Recipients can then click the link to join the group. You cannot create a group by directly adding members without saving them as contacts. nine0003
3. Can I create a WhatsApp broadcast without saving contacts or phone numbers?
Broadcasting is similar to sending a message to several people, which, as stated in the answer to the first question, cannot be done without storing phone numbers as contacts. What's more, the broadcast will only work if the recipient has also saved your number in their contact list, so keep that in mind when messaging people.
4. Is it safe to use third party apps and shortcuts to send messages to unsaved WhatsApp contacts? nine0009
The apps and services mentioned in this article use native WhatsApp APIs to open WhatsApp conversations with unsaved contacts. You do not need to enter any of your personal information in the apps and services we have mentioned and hence they are safe to use. ATTENTION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!! » If you use an app or service other than those mentioned, be sure to read the app's description and reviews to make sure it's safe. nine0003
5. Can I send messages to unsaved WhatsApp Business contacts using these methods?
Yes, you can also use any of the methods we mentioned to send messages about unsaved contacts and phone numbers on WhatsApp Business. Both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business use the same APIs, so they work in a similar way. If you have both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business installed on your phone, the link or app, whichever you use, will ask you if you want to start a chat on WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business.
