1. Add a drop-shadow effect to text.
Select the Aa icon on the top right, then write your message. Tap the Aa icon again and write the message for a second time, using a different color. Move one layer of text over the other, but put it a bit off center so that the bottom layer still shows.
Note that if you resize or angle the text, it’s not as easy to line up the layers.
2. Choose a custom color.
The basic color choices don’t quite cut it for users who want to stay in-line with their personal or company branding. Access virtually every color by tapping either the pen or Aa icon on the top right corner, then tap and hold a default color to bring up more options in the color slider. 3. Create a GIF.
If you usually just post regular photos and videos to Stories, you may not know what the other media format options are along the bottom of the screen.

4. Create a solid background.
If you want to add to your Story but don’t feel like showing a photo or video, you can create a solid background. First, you’ll need to upload an image of some sort – since you’re going to be covering it up, it doesn’t matter what you use.
Hit the pen icon on the top right, choose the marker or neon brush, then choose a color. Tap and hold the screen for a few seconds –it will fill with the solid color you choose. If you want to reveal a bit of the photo or video, you can either use the eraser tool to show a part of it or the chisel-tip brush for translucent, instead of solid, color.
5. Download your Story to the Camera Roll.
Even though the content you post to Stories disappears after 24 hours, you may want to save some of the photos or videos for yourself. To do this, open your Story and swipe up, then tap the arrow that’s in the circle icon on the top right corner. This will let you save the entire Story (complete details here).
If you just want to save single posts, you can do so as you upload them by tapping the downward arrow on the bottom left. If you’ve already shared the photo or video you want to save, tap the three dots on the bottom right and then choose Save Photo.
6. Filter the Stories you see from specific accounts.
The more people you follow on Instagram, the more you’ll be bombarded by Stories. If you want to weed out the accounts you’re less interested in, you can hide Stories from certain users without un-following them.
When you see an account that has a new Story and you want to unfollow Stories from that user, press firmly on their picture in the Stories feed, then choose the mute option from the menu that pops up.
7. Hide your story from specific accounts.
If you don’t want someone to see your Story (such as one of your business’ competitors), head to Instagram settings. Choose Story Settings, then Hide Story From. Wondering just exactly how to tag some on Instagram videos or photos?
Choose the Aa icon, type the @ symbol and then type the username. A menu will show up on the bottom of the screen where you can choose the account you want to tag. It’s important that you choose the user from the pop-up menu; if you just write @username, it won’t actually create a tag. You know you did it right if the tag is underlined.
In each Story, you can tag up to 10 other accounts. When you mention someone in Stories, they’ll see a notification that says they’ve been tagged and they’ll also be sent a direct message with a preview of the Story.
10. Pause, skip and go back when watching a Story.
Sometimes you don’t want to see every single Story at the top of your Instagram account. Other times you want to re-watch them or even zero in on a certain part.

12. Show your video backward.
Some videos look even better when played in reverse, like when you drop something or capture a waterfall. Rewind mode will let you create a video that you can play backward. To shoot in Rewind mode, open up the Stories camera, then scroll to the bottom until you see Rewind.
13. Situate a sticker or text on a particular point of a video.
If you’re uploading a video, you can pin a sticker or text to an object or location so that the text will move with the video. To do this, position the sticker or text where you want it, then press and hold until the Pin option pops up.
If you’re not happy with the placement, press and hold again for another try.

Tagging a location in your Stories will make your content show up in that location’s Story feed, which can help you rack up a bunch of views in a short amount of time.

When you go to post, Instagram won’t let you because your phone is on airplane mode. Press the “X” to remove the content and then turn airplane mode off. Now, when you go to Stories, the content you just tried to upload to Instagram will show up as new content.
- Change the date in your iPhone to the date of the content you want to post. To do this, go to Settings, General, Date & Time, then turn off the Set Automatically option. You can then change the date to whatever you want, and all of the content from that date up to the current date will be available in the 24-hour window in Stories. Just make sure to change your phone back to the correct date once you’ve finished posting.
- For a super quick way to repurpose old content, take a screenshot of a photo, which will make Stories think it’s brand new content.
16. Use selfie stickers.
With selfie stickers, you can create a small selfie that you can edit and then use later on as a sticker. Tap the stickers icon (the square smiley face) at the top of the screen, then choose the camera option, which is to the left of #hashtag. Take a selfie, then either tap it again to add a white border or leave it alone to keep the glowing edge. Move the selfie sticker to wherever you’d like it on the screen.
Keep an eye out for more sticker packs, too – Instagram seems to release them pretty frequently.
17. View how your Story’s performing.
Wondering who’s peeked at your Story?
Open the Story and swipe up. You’ll see the number of people who have viewed it as well as their usernames. You can also see Story analytics from the Instagram Insights tool, which is available on business accounts. Above your newsfeed and next to your name, click the bars to get performance information. I tag people in Instagram Stories almost every time I use the feature — whether I want to make sure my friends see funny memes or give credit to the original creator when I'm sharing a cool post, it's an effective way to communicate with the people you follow. But if you're not familiar with Instagram's tagging capabilities, you won't know how to see if you've been tagged in an Instagram post or Story.
Seeing if you've been tagged in an Instagram Story is relatively straightforward. In fact, there's really only one way to do it: you have to check your Instagram direct messages on a regular basis. If someone mentions you in their Story, Instagram sends you a preview of the post in your direct messages and gives you the option of re-sharing it to your own followers with added text and GIFs. If you don't open the notification within 24 hours though, you won't be able to view it, since the Story will have expired. You'll still see get a message that someone mentioned you, but it won't show you what exactly was shared.
Now that we've covered Stories, here's how to see whether you've been tagged in an Instagram post. You may have not have realized it, but you actually have quite a few options.
View Story Reshares

If someone shares a post of yours on their Story and doesn't tag you, you can still view the share by clicking on the three dots in the top-right corner of your post and selecting "View Story Reshares. " From there, you'll see all of the public accounts that have shared your post in the last 24 hours. And just to clarify, this works even if they didn't tag you.

The hands-down most popular option for seeing if you've been tagged in a picture or comment is checking your Instagram notifications. When someone tags you in a post or comment you'll get a notification that you were tagged, and you can find it by clicking on the little heart icon at the bottom of your screen. If you get a lot of Instagram notifications, though, you might miss the message, so you have to make sure to scroll.

If the notification still isn't showing up for some weird reason or you'd have to scroll too far down to find it, there's a rather-clumsy workaround using Google. You can instruct Google to search Instagram's website by typing, "site:instagram.com" and including your username in quotation marks. The biggest downside of this method is that it pulls up posts you've made too, so you'll probably have dozens of pages to sort through. If you're desperate for a solution though, it's an option.

Instagram Stories: Everything you wanted to know about them but were afraid to ask swipe right across the screen anywhere in your feed. To take a photo, tap the circle icon at the bottom of the screen (Normal) - for video, you need to hold it with your finger. To select an existing photo/video from the gallery on your phone, tap on the gallery thumbnail at the bottom left, or simply swipe up anywhere on the screen. You can select multiple photos and videos at once.
After taking or selecting a photo, you can apply one of the filters to it by swiping right or left on the photo. You can delete an added item by dragging it down to the trash can icon at the bottom of the screen.
Then you can either save your story or publish it right away by clicking on "Your story" below the "+" sign in a dashed circle. This will make it available to all subscribers. Or you can pre-select a particular recipient or a group of recipients at the bottom right.
To share a published story in Direct, tap the paper airplane icon in the bottom right corner of a photo or video, select the people you want to share, and click Share. In order for a story to be seen on Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler or Odnoklassniki, your account there must be linked to Instagram. Then, after creating a story, click on it and click "More", select "Share in the publication ...", "Next" and mark the desired social network. In the "Advanced settings" you can select "Share posts on Facebook" - then your photo and video stories will appear on this social network automatically.
In a hurry, accidentally submitted a story for publication, or just changed your mind? No problem - just click on your own story, tap the vertical ellipsis "More" icon in the bottom right corner of a photo or video, and then select "Delete".
If, on the contrary, you want to save the created (not only in the feed and then in the archive), in the same "More" select "Save photo / video" - this is how it will appear in the gallery on your phone.
How to repost a story
In your story, you can repost someone else's post from the feed - but only if the user's account is public and reposts of his posts are allowed. Click on the paper airplane icon below the photo or video in the feed and select "Add post to your story." At the same time, everyone who views your story will see the signature of the real author of the content (Instagram profile name).
Stories can only be reposted using a third-party app — search Google Play or the App Store using story saver, story repost, etc. You can only repost other people's stories on Instagram if you are tagged there with the @ tag. In this case, you will receive a corresponding message in Direct and you will be able to add this story to yourself, editing, if necessary, in preview mode.
Is it possible to add multiple stories
You can add multiple photos and videos, repeating the algorithm from the previous section over and over again, but all of them will be combined into one common "Your Story" and displayed sequentially. You can switch between stories by touching the screen on the left or right side.
How to add a link in history
Not all users can add a link in history - only owners of verified accounts and business accounts with at least 10 thousand subscribers (if you have a personal account, when you reach this number of subscribers, it will automatically get business status).
In this case, when you create a story, at the top right, in addition to the usual icons, you will see an image of a pair of chain links. After clicking on it, a new window will open where you can add the URL. In the history, the link itself will not be visible, but a label will appear at the bottom: “More”, “More”, “Install”, “Register”, etc., depending on the content. You can go to the address only by swiping up on this mark with your finger.
In this case, the user viewing your story will be able to follow the link only by swiping up on it.

If you want a different cover, click on the story in the "Actual" and select "Edit cover" - this way you can change the look of the photo or video frame (for example, zoom in and move) or select any photo from your own photo gallery on your phone.

At the end of June, Instagram added a new feature to the app - the ability to add music to a story right at the moment the story is created. To do this, click on the sticker icon at the top right, and then select the appropriate Music sticker. This will open the audio library, where you can search for tracks or select something in the categories “Popular” (Popular), “Moods” (Moods) and “Genres” (Genres). The track can be trimmed and added to the story with a passage lasting from 5 to 15 seconds. At the same time, while viewing a story, a person, by clicking on a music sticker, will see the name of the track and the name of the artist.
The feature is currently unstable and not available at all in many regions, including Russia, due to music licensing issues.
