Instagram 101: How to Insert a Line Break in Your Instagram Caption « Smartphones :: Gadget Hacks

  • Instagram 101

As you all journey along with me on my challenge to become some sort of Instagram expert, let me share with you one hack that is currently helping me out a lot. If you've ever wanted to put a line break in your posts, then keep on reading.

If you are in Android user, then you probably already have the much sought-after "return" key up front and center on your keyboard that lets you make a line break. For all us iPhone users, though, we don't have that convenience.

I always thought that I would only ever be able to create that perfect line break on Instagram by typing everything out in my notes app, and then copying and pasting it to my post. This actually isn't the best way, though. I'm here to tell you that there is a much easier way of creating a space on IG and it's all from within the comfort of your iPhone's keyboard.

Don't Miss: This Boomerang Hack Lets You Post Apple's Live Photos on Instagram

From within your Instagram app, all you have to do is click on the "123" button on your keyboard and you'll see a "return" key pop up on the right-hand side. Tap on return and then go ahead and start line breaking away, you all.

There is one catch: You can't use emojis at the beginning of your line breaks. Yeah ... that pretty much sucks because who doesn't like to use emojis at any chance they get?

There is a solution, though. Just make sure you always put your emojis in the middle of sentences or at the end, rather than at the beginning. This will keep your line breaks all nice and sleek giving you one pretty awesome looking feed.

How to Put Blank Spaces in Instagram Post Captions

  • You can put blank spaces in an Instagram post caption to break up lines of text using recent versions of the app.
  • If you don't yet have the option, you can write the original text in an external app, like the iPhone Notes app or Google Docs (Android), and copy it over.
  • Visit Business Insider's Tech Reference library for more stories.

Whether you have an Android or an iPhone, a recent Instagram update made it possible to quickly and easily add line breaks within your captions — without having to copy over your text from another app.

Being able to add those kinds of breaks is important. Not only does it allow you to space things out the way you want them to appear within Instagram's feed, it also helps make your posts easier to read and understand.

Plus, it can allow you to hide long lists of hashtags that many people use to help boost their visibility. While those can be helpful, they can also be something of an eyesore, and line breaks solve that problem.

For those who aren't familiar, here's what you need to know about using the new option, what to do if it isn't yet available to you, and more tips for formatting your Instagram posts:.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

How to put spaces in an Instagram post caption

If you have the new option to add line breaks within the app, the process is simple: You just need to hit the "enter" or "return" key and format it as you'd like it to appear, creating the rest of the post as normal.

Up-to-date versions of Instagram will let you add line breaks freely. Devon Delfino/Business Insider

However, if you aren't yet able to use the line-break option, it may be worth updating your app. If that doesn't work, though, there is still a way to add those line breaks to your posts. Here's how:

1. Open your notes app of choice, and create a new note.

2. Add your text, then select it and hit "Copy."

You can type your caption out in another app first. Devon Delfino/Business Insider

3. Open Instagram and log into your account, if needed.

4. Create and edit your new post, but don't publish it yet.

5. For the caption section, long-press on the blank space and select "Paste."

6. Remove any periods from the last sentence that precedes each line break.

Your text should then copy over, including your formatting. Post it.

Once posted, double-check that the formatting's been done correctly. If it hasn't, delete the post and try again.

Formatting tips and tricks

Formatting can drastically change how your followers perceive and interact with your posts, so knowing different techniques is essential as a creator. Again, if you don't have the new invisible line-break option, or you just want to try something different, here are some tricks you should add to your Instagram game:

Create line breaks using symbols

You could use a specific symbol of your choosing on the lines where you don't wish text to appear. By doing so, you give the old version of the app something that acts as a placeholder and thereby gives you the overall effect of having line breaks. But the symbols you use, of course, will still be visible. So while it's a better option that relying on huge chunks of text, it's not perfect.

You can use emojis to separate your lines. Devon Delfino/Business Insider

Hide hashtags with periods

As mentioned earlier, hashtag groups are commonly found at the end of captions, which can help the reader focus on what's important: Your message. However, if you don't have a long caption ahead of it, those groups can still be distracting. To get around this, you may choose to use a period placed on each line break to visually differentiate between the caption and the hashtag group.

You can create vertical ellipses to break up your text. Devon Delfino/Business Insider

Try a dedicated space maker tool

If you've tried your usual note-taking apps but still aren't getting the line-break effect you desire, a dedicated tool, like TextSpacer.com, can be a solid option. With that site, you'd create and format your post as desired within the site, then click "Copy" and paste it into your Instagram caption.

Some third-party apps will add the breaks for you, too. Devon Delfino/Business Insider

For about 15 years he has been repairing equipment and solving technical problems for iOS and Android. I dealt with almost all more or less popular brands of mobile smartphones and tablets Samsung, HTC, Xiaomi, etc. I use iPhone 12 and Samsung Galaxy S21 with the latest firmware version for testing. nine0003

Information about the author

Many people upload the most valuable photos to Instagram, for which they are definitely not ashamed. If you are reading this text, this is probably the case for you. Alas, due to absurd accidents, the photographs (seemingly) disappear without a trace. Most often this happens due to the deletion or blocking of the account. The saddest thing is that priceless memories go with the account.

Is it possible to solve the situation with an optimistic outcome if publications on Instagram have disappeared? It depends on the circumstances. We will cover all Instagram photo recovery scenarios that currently exist. nine0003

  1. Ability to restore default photos
  2. Checking if there are deleted photos in the archive
  3. Find and restore photos on the phone
  4. We use recovery programs
  5. Restoring Instagram images via Google
  6. Checking the internet archive
  7. Making a backup of valuable photos
  8. Frequently Asked Questions

1. Instagram doesn't have Recycle Bin / Restore features

The first thing to understand is that there are no obvious recovery methods on Instagram. The online service does not provide recovery options. There is no basket, as on the Google Photos service.

Although photos and videos are stored on Instagram's server indefinitely even after deletion ("for legal purposes"), according to the rules, they can only be restored by court order.

Accordingly, if you need to provide a photo as evidence, please contact Instagram technical support. But this is an extreme case. If there are no relevant documents, tearful letters to technical support will not convince Instagram employees to send you a backup. nine0003

2. Check the Instagram archive

In 2017, a new feature appeared on Instagram - post archiving (how to use it?). It is useful because:

  • you can hide any photos and stories from public access
  • will always be able to recover a priceless photo.

Roughly speaking, the Instagram archive can be compared to the Recycle Bin - temporary file storage. Until the moment you clear it, your photos will be available for quick restoration to the feed. Accordingly, as soon as you delete a photo from the Instagram archive, you definitely cannot restore it. nine0003

Download the latest version of Instagram

Tip : Always archive instead of directly deleting photos if you want to get rid of something, even if you think you will never need a photo. No one knows what you will be interested in in a year or five years.

3. Restoring photos on your phone

It is reasonable to assume that photos can be stored on a mobile device before being published online and after that (unless you have deleted them). In total there are several sources where you should look for copies of photographs. This is:

  • Android Gallery
  • DCIM/Camera Folder
  • Downloads folder
  • Other user directories where you store photos

For a quick search, we recommend using any file manager with convenient sorting, filtering and flexible search.

4. Connecting recovery software to the case

You can forget that the photos were stored on the Instagram server - in fact, you can't return the images online. But you can try the traditional method of restoring local files. How to do it:

  1. Remember where the photos were (see above),
  2. Install photo recovery software,
  3. Scan where deleted files are stored,
  4. Save all found images.

If the photos are deleted from the internal memory of the phone, the chances of finding something are only fresh traces. In extreme cases, the DiskDigger utility for Android will help.

5. Photo recovery via Google account

Many android users store photos on Google Photos or Samsung's proprietary service without even knowing it. Thus, it makes sense to check if there is a backup of photos in the online cloud.

To do this:

  1. Log in to your Google Photos account;
  2. Examine the contents of all published albums, if available;
  3. Check if there is something in the Cart that has been uploaded to Instagram.

6. Look at the Internet Archive

The Internet Archive service helps out if you need to look at the old version of a site. This method also works with Instagram.

  1. Go to the main page https://web.archive.org/
  2. Enter the address of your instagram account in the text field
  3. In the calendar, select the snapshot date to view

As of 2017, the Internet Archive stores more than 300 billion pages, but the "time machine" is not available for all Instagram accounts. Often, instead of images, the service issues a blank page. However, there is no more efficient alternative to this service yet. nine0003

7. Back up your most valuable photos

Read an excerpt from the Instagram rules:

Instagram is not a backup service, so you are advised to keep a copy of your photos and videos.

Although it sounds like an excuse, it's actually worth listening to the recommendation. Always back up your most important files - including Instagram photos. There are two options for storing copies of images:

  1. Install the Backup and Sync 9 application0022
  2. Enable Gallery sync with Google Photos.

Yes, backing up your photos will take 10 minutes of your time, but it will insure against trouble. Subsequently, you can easily restore photos from Instagram, Camera and other applications and services, even if access to them is lost.

FAQ

I accidentally deleted 2 photos from Instagram. How can I restore along with comments? nine0003

A post can only be restored if it has been archived and is still there. Otherwise, both photos and comments will be deleted. You can appeal to your audience, suddenly someone managed to save the picture on their phone.

My friend and I recently broke up. I got angry and deleted the photos on my Instagram. Is there a way to restore these photos with likes and comments without reposting?

There is no Recycle Bin on Instagram, and after deleting the photos disappear from the server. Tech support will not help in any way. Try another way: install the DiskDigger application and use it to restore photos on an SD card or internal memory of a mobile device. nine0003

On my birthday I posted a post with a photo and text. Now I can not find it - most likely, I deleted it. Help find and restore!

Was the post archived by mistake? Check out the History Archive. If there is no post or picture, please refer to the web.archive.org Web Archive, indicating the closest possible date on the timeline.

Instagram deleted my photo post because someone complained about it to piss me off or just for fun. But I didn't violate the community norms! nine0003

Log in to your account through the Instagram app. When logging in, a message will appear that your profile has been blocked, and “if an error occurs, please report it to us.” Click on the link and submit an unlock request. After a while, access will be returned to you and you can return the photo and other data back.

How to recover an Instagram account if you forgot your email

If you forgot your email (or password) in addition to your password, then it will be more difficult to restore your Instagram account. nine0003

1. Forgot email

If you don't remember which email you registered Instagram with, then try resetting your password (see above), but you need to remember your login. Then check your mailboxes, you may receive an email with a link to reset your password. If you did not find the letter in any mail, then check the SPAM folder.

2. I forgot my mail password

Officially, the Instagram support service recommends contacting the mail service support service when you forgot your mail password. But there is another option. You can contact Instagram support by writing that your account has been hacked. Usually, when Instagram is hacked, they change mail and personal data, i.e. in fact, you do not have access to the mail to which the account is currently registered. And this can be treated as a burglary. See details below 👉🏻 “What to do if Instagram was hacked. How to recover?". nine0247 -

Blocked on Instagram. What to do?

Why they can be blocked on Instagram: for violating the rules and / or exceeding the Limits. First of all, it is relevant for those who use Massfollowing or Instagram promotion.

Very often they block not permanently, but for a week/month. But if you already have not the first such blocking, then they can do it forever. What to do? You need to either wait or create a new account if you are blocked on Instagram. But there is also a third option. You can try to recover a blocked Instagram by complaining to the official support that your account has been hacked. Details below. nine0003

What to do if Instagram has been hacked. How to recover?

If your Instagram account has been hacked, then recovering it is more difficult than if you just forgot your password.

Crackers will almost immediately change the mail, password, linked phone number and Facebook page. But in this case, you will definitely receive a letter in the mail about changing the postal address.

We write to the support service https://help.instagram.com/contact/740949042640030 .

If the account is deactivated, then you can contact here https://help.instagram.com/contact/1652567838289083

The support team is extremely reluctant to help and rarely answers. To get through a stream of complaints similar to yours, write several times every day. Same. Perhaps they will notice you and help you.

Instructions on how to restore Instagram for Android and iOS

  1. Click Help with logging in (Android) or Forgot your password? (iPhone).
  2. Enter the email/login or phone number associated with the account. Do not remember anything - enter at least some of your mail. Click "Next"
  3. Here, in the official help for restoring the Instagram page, they promise that you will need to follow the instructions on the screen and you will receive a letter with instructions to the specified mail. You will need to provide documents confirming your identity (list below). But in fact, a page with articles is now opening, where they tell you (in short) that if you don’t remember anything at all (password, mail, phone), then they won’t help you. This is how account security is ensured. Don't forget to check that there are no extra spaces when you enter your mail/code. Check your different mailboxes and be sure to SPAM folder. Often letters from Instagram fly there. nine0022

What to do? If someone offers you to restore Instagram (without login/mail/password/phone) - remember that it is impossible to do this by official methods if there is no access to mail/phone/Facebook. Therefore, this “someone” must have acquaintances among Facebook employees who will personally restore your page.

Accounts are often hacked to be used to buy subscribers. Therefore, while your Instagram is in the clutches of the enemy, it can be blocked for exceeding the Limits. But this will not affect the process of restoring access (although you will then have to unsubscribe from a bunch of leftist accounts). nine0003

What documents can be asked from the support service if Instagram was hacked?

For personal accounts

  1. Photo with passport in hand
  2. What phone did you log in from and smartphone model
  3. A photo with a piece of paper with your full name and a code that will be sent to your phone number or mail.
  4. E-mail to which account
  5. was registered

For business accounts

  1. Local Business License (issued by your city, county, state, etc.)
  2. Tax return
  3. Registration certificate
  4. Charter
  5. Utility bill

The documents and photos you are asked for depends on whether you have personal photos in your account. Therefore, even if you have a professional Instagram, it’s good to have a couple of your own photos there to make it easier to recover your account in case of a hack. If your business is not officially registered (for example, your mother knits hats, and you sell them), then it is better to write to the support service for recovery as a personal account. nine0003

An account can be restored in a few days/week/month, there is no exact timeframe. They may not recover at all. Try to write to support several times (with a break of a week or two). Applications are processed by real people (even when they send "template" answers), so maybe one of the support staff will help you unlock your Instagram account.
