How to Split Photos for Instagram (the EASIEST Grid Maker APP)

And it doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as splitting a photo in 2  pieces. Your grid will look more aesthetic instantly.

How to split photos into grid for Instagram using Preview app

Preview has an Image Splitter tool within the app.

Here is how to split a photo with Preview:

  1. Press on “+”
  2. “Split image”
  3. Choose a grid option
  4. Adjust the image within the grid if you want to (zoom in and out, move the image)
  5. Done.

 

Your picture will be split into pieces.

Each individual post will appear into your Preview grid.

How to post your grid on Instagram

You can auto-post to Instagram, or you can post manually.

To post manually:

  • Press on the post
  • Press on the “Share” button
  • “Post to Instagram”

Done.

Tip: Post individual images in the right order. Start posting from the bottom right corner of your screen and move your way left, and up.

Here are 3 useful features in Preview.

1. Change the order of your posts.

If your posts are not in the right order, you can move them.

You have 2 options:

  • Drag and drop (hold a finger on one post and drag it somewhere else), or
  • Swap (select the 2 images you want to swap, and press on the “arrows” button)

Prepare the captions for your posts.

Want to write a caption?

  • Press on the post
  • Press on the “Notes” button
  • Write your caption

Press on “Find Captions” if you want caption ideas.
Press on “Find Hashtags” to find hashtags.

Caption tip: Want your followers to know that the post is part of a bigger picture? Annotate the image. For example, if you split your big picture into 3 images, you can write “1/3” or “1 out of 3” in the caption of the first image you share.

3. Schedule.

Want to post later?

Press on “Schedule Post”.

You can choose to:

  • Set yourself a reminder to post, or
  • Auto-post later (tag people and location in advance too if you need)

Tip: Make your big image the perfect size. This way each individual image will be high quality.

  • 4 rows = 12 posts = 3240×4320px (that’s 3,240px width and 4,320 height)
  • 5 rows = 15 posts = 3240×5400px (that’s 3,240px width and 5,400 height)

How to Split Pictures on Instagram with PhotoSplit:
Step One: Choose Your Grid Option

With this app, you can choose between a 1×2, 1×3, 2×3, 3×3, or 4×3 option.

Depending on your photo, you may want to only take up one row (1×3 grid) of your Instagram 9 grid or up to 4 (4×3 grid)!

Step Two: Adjust Your Photo

How to Split Pictures on Instagram with ImageSplitter
Step One: Upload Your Image

ImageSplitter gives recommendations on the sizes that will work best for each different type of grid option.  

So, if you want to only post 3 pictures in a row on your Instagram, you can choose an image that will look best horizontally with the 3×1 grid.

If you have more vertical space you want to show, you can choose the larger grids.

Step Two: Choose Your Grid Size

How to Split Pictures on Instagram with 9Square for Instagram:
Step One: Choose Your Grid Preset

9Square has the option for a grid from 3×1 to 3×5 and even 2×1 to 2×5.

Choose what layout works best for your image. Here, we uploaded a photo to a 3×1 horizontal grid to show our lovely team members on a windy day in Oklahoma last year.

Step Two: Crop

Once you have the exact split you want, hit the Crop button on the top right.

This will send you to a page where you can post your images directly to Instagram or save them to your device.

Again, these images are conveniently labeled in the order you should post them!

Step Three: Upload to Instagram!

Now, you’re ready to upload your images to Instagram!

How to Split Pictures on Instagram with PineTools:
Step One: Edit Your Image (optional)

To take full advantage of this tool, scroll through the left sidebar to see the different options available to edit your image!

We wanted this image to be a bit browner to match our feed and cropped to just the right size.

Be sure you have the right ratio when you crop to ensure that your image will be split into equal parts that are compatible with the square images on Instagram!

Step Two: Split Image

Once you have the image you are excited to work with, select “Split Image” on the left sidebar.

You’ll upload your image again and decide how many blocks you want your image split into.

This tool does not provide the standard grid options, but instead lets you choose exactly how to split your image yourself! 

You do this by clicking on Vertically, Horizontally, or Both (Grid) to determine the direction you want your image sliced. 

Then, you choose the Quantity of Blocks you want on each column and row. This allows you to get really creative with how you’d like to cut your photo!

Step Four: Download Your Split Images

Now that your image is split, PineTools will generate the pieces of your larger image labeled by each row and column.

Step Five: Upload your images

How to do?

Desktop editors

You can cut a photo into equal parts in any graphics editor such as Photoshop or GIMP. Just open the photo in the editor, divide it into equal square parts and save each part as a separate file. nine0003

Photoshop

From the View menu, choose Show→Grid. Go to the Edit menu and open Preferences → Guides, Grid and Slices.

You can divide the image into parts depending on the panorama you want to create. Just enter the desired value in the "Internal division by" field.

Now that your image is divided into parts, select and copy the desired fragments into separate files.

GIMP

Go to the View menu and enable the Show Grid and Snap to Grid options. Then click on "Image", select "Adjust Grid" and split the image into parts. nine0003

Select parts of the image one by one, copy and save to separate files using "File" → "Create" → "From Clipboard". Use the hotkeys Ctrl + C and Shift + Ctrl + V to speed up the process.
