Trying to add paragraphs in your Instagram captions can be a very annoying, tedious task.
Even if you manage to find the elusive “return” button on your keyboard while using the app, Instagram’s formatting doesn’t allow the caption to include line breaks.
Luckily we have a couple of easy solutions to help you out with this problem. Here’s how to (painlessly) add paragraphs in your Instagram captions.
How To Add Paragraphs in Your Instagram Captions in the Instagram App
The idea here is to use symbols as your line breaks, which gives you an opportunity to get creative if you want use a set of emojis. If you’re looking to keep it minimal, use a symbol that is barely visible, such as a full stop instead.
Write out your first paragraph.
Next, click on the “123” button and hit “return.”
Enter your symbol of choice, before pressing “return” again and continue with typing your next paragraph.
Repeat the steps until you’ve finished your full caption.
How To Add Paragraphs in Your Instagram Captions with Notes app
There are now a surprising number of apps you can download that can help you format your Instagram captions, but there’s an easier solution…
If you’re using iOS you can try making the most of the Notes app on your phone (or even an e-mail draft).
All you need to do is open the app and type in the caption text, before sharing it within your Instagram post.
When you want to start a new paragraph, do not press space after your last word or symbol.
Immediately press “return” and continue typing your next sentence.
Copy and paste the text into Instagram: the caption will retain your paragraphs when you post it!
And there you have it! Two easy ways to add paragraphs to your Insta captions without third party apps.

Instagram Line Breaks: How to separate paragraphs.

How many times have you done and redone a post on Instagram because the spaces between paragraphs didn’t look right? Sometimes with a space, sometimes without or even with two periods together.
For reasons that we don’t quite understand, Instagram doesn’t usually allow insert spaces between paragraphs, that is by pressing enter, you don’t go directly to the next paragraph.
If you write a post on this social network and all the text is shown together and messy, the quality of the content will be reduced and the caption of the Instagram photo won’t be legible.
As a great social media professional, the objective is the same for all:

↪️ Ensure that the experience on your Instagram profile is enjoyable and encouraging for your followers so they come back.
So, how do you insert line breaks and easily split paragraphs?
There are two possible ways to do it…
Create a space or line break on Instagram with punctuation marks
This is the easiest way to create separate paragraphs on your Instagram captions, although it’s not very aesthetically pleasing.
To do so, simply write a text that goes with your image. Then, when you want to make a line break:
- Finish your phrase with a period or emojis and press enter. Don’t add an extra space otherwise the line break won’t remain. [Period or Emoji + enter]
- Now that you are in the next “paragraph”. Write a new period and press enter again.
- In the third paragraph you can continue writing.

As you can see the result is not very aesthetically pleasing. However, is a quick and easy option to separate texts and make sure everything is in the right place.
Invisible spaces on Instagram: Copy-paste a space
This option is the cleanest for uploading your posts on Instagram. There is no need to use periods or commas that can ruin a great copy.
The process is simple, copy this space between parenthesis ( ) and paste it wherever you want to insert a line break.
During the text edition, you will see more than one space, it is only visual, that is, when you save changes, you will only see one.

Let us explain why it is so necessary. For example, your text has 7-9 lines. Yes, it is still readable on the phone screen, but if there were more lines in your post, then the presence of indents is simply necessary. Indeed, sometimes such material is difficult to perceive not only through the phone, but even through a computer monitor.
Using paragraphs, the text is divided into structured blocks with logically arranged information. After explaining the need for these parts, we will talk about how they can be done on Instagram.
Since people most often use Instagram on their phones, for example, arrange live broadcasts, process and upload photos, etc., let's figure out how to make paragraphs on mobile devices.
How to make a paragraph on Instagram on iPhone
Start creating an Instagram post the way you used to do it, that is, select a photo, process it, etc.
After that, write the text part.
Put a period, exclamation/question marks at the end of your last sentence. But in no case do not press the space bar. Pressing the spacebar will reset all corrected material.
When you edit the text, the indents will be visible, but after publishing, they will disappear!
To create paragraphs, go to the keyboard with numbers and various symbols. You will see an Enter button. Click on it twice. And voila! Your text is indented.
How to indent on Instagram on Android
Just like on the iPhone, start creating a post in the usual way using the Instagram app for Android.
- Write the text.

There are other ways to indent or indent text on Instagram:

How to do it? When you have finished writing one semantic part, press the "Enter" or "Enter" button, thereby moving the cursor (a blinking vertical line) to the next line.
Open the keyboard section on Instagram with various symbols and select any one you like. For example, it can be a lattice, an asterisk, etc. Paste the icon into an empty line and click on the enter button again. You may also be offered emoticons instead of symbols!
