WhatsApp’s ability to instantly reach anyone around the globe has secured the messaging app's enduring popularity among mobile users. Some WhatsApp chats may be so important users may wish to safely save conversations. The good news is the Facebook-owned app has helpfully introduced a great feature to retain your cherished messages: WhatsApp Archive.
The WhatsApp Archive is not dissimilar to the features available on Gmail or Instagram.
Archive Chat allows you to hide a conversation from your Chats screen and access it later
Archiving a chat makes the chat disappear from the main WhatsApp window where the conversations appear.
Users can then unarchive and access the chat at any time.
WhatsApp users can archive individual and group chats, however, the entire chat threads need to be archived.

To archive a WhatsApp chat on Android phones, tap and hold the chat.
Then from the options that appear at the top, simply select the Archive icon.
To archive a chat on iPhone, swipe from right to left on the chat. Then tap on the Archive option.
While on WhatsApp Web, just hover your mouse curser over a chat, then click the down arrow and select Archive chat.

How to view archived chats on WhatsApp on iPhone:Begin by tapping Chats – the speech bubble icon at the bottom of the screen.
If WhatsApp opens to a conversation, first select the Back button in the screen’s top-left corner.
Next swipe down in the middle of the screen, which will open Archived Chats at the top of the screen.
If all of your conversations are archived, users will see Archived Chats at the bottom of the screen without needing to swipe down.
Selecting Archived Chats will display a list of your conversations already archived.
Finally, select a conversation. This will open it, allowing users to view the archived WhatsApp conversation.

How to view archived chats on WhatsApp on Android:Start by selecting Chats, found in the tab near the top of the screen.
If WhatsApp opens to a conversation, hit the Back button in your screen’s top-left corner.
Scroll to the bottom of your chat inbox, where you should see Archived Conversations.
If you do not see this option it means you do not have any archived chats.
Tapping Archived Conversations will display all your archived conversations.
Choosing the chat you wish to view will open the conversation and allow you to scroll through it.

Did you accidentally archive a WhatsApp chat? Now you are puzzled about how to bring back the archived chats? Don’t worry. It’s easy to retrieve archived WhatsApp chats. For the unaware, the archive is one of WhatsApp’s useful features to hide individual or group chats from the chats list without deleting them.
So if you unintentionally hit the archive button on WhatsApp, this post will guide you to get back the archived chats in WhatsApp on Android, iOS, web, and Desktop.
It’s important to mention that the archived chat will be automatically unarchived when you receive a message on such a chat. In normal cases, there are two ways to bring back archived WhatsApp chats to the main chats list.
Firstly, using WhatsApp’s search, look for the archived contact/group name or any message from the chat. You will notice the Archived label on the chat in the search results. Touch and hold the chat. Select Unarchive chat from the menu.
In the second method, scroll down to the bottom of the WhatsApp chat list. You will see the Archived section. Tap on it. Here you will find all the archived chats. Long touch the chat thread that you want to unarchive and tap on the Unarchive icon to unhide it.
Similar to Android, WhatsApp chats can be unarchived on iPhone using two methods. The first method involves taking the help of WhatsApp’s search. Type the group or contact name or a message present in the chat. When the required archived chat appears, swipe left on it to unarchive it or hit the Unarchive option.
Alternatively, go to the Chats tab in WhatsApp and swipe down from the top. The Archived chats option will appear below the search bar. Tap on it.
Now touch and hold the chat that you want to unarchive and select Unarchive, or simply swipe left on the chat to bring it back to the main list.
On WhatsApp Web and desktop app too, chats can be unarchived using the search feature. Search for the archived chat’s contact or group name. When the required chat appears, hover your mouse over it.
A small down arrow will show up on the right side. Click on it. That will bring up a menu. Choose Unarchive chat from the list.
In case you want to see all the archived chats, click on the three-dot icon at the top of the chats list. Select Archived from the menu.
Move your mouse pointer over the chat that you want to bring back to the main chats list. Click on the small down arrow at the extreme right corner of the chat. Select Unarchive chat from the menu that shows up.
When you unarchive a chat, it will again show up in the WhatsApp chats list. Do note that the chat will not appear at the top of the chats list, instead, it will appear at its original position or the last message date. Meaning, if it’s an old chat that you have unarchived, you might need to scroll down in your chat list to view such a chat.
As mentioned earlier, archive doesn’t impact your old messages.
So all your messages will show up in the chat after unarchiving it.
Also, the chat that you unarchive on mobile will be unarchived on PC as well and vice versa. You don’t need to unarchive the chat separately for mobile and desktop.
Lastly, in case you want to delete a chat, it’s not necessary to unarchive it first. You can delete an archived chat directly as well. Find the archived chat and touch and hold it. According to the patch notes, the WhatsApp archives help us organize our inbox. Just as archives help us organize our files in the real world, the purpose of an archive in WhatsApp is to hide a private or group chat from our chat list in order to better organize our list.
Let's move on to what exactly is happening with your archived chat!
You may often wonder what happens when you archive a WhatsApp chat. Obscure knowledge leads to unnecessary rumors. Contrary to popular belief, archiving a particular chat does not mean that you block or delete the content of the chat. You just take messages out of sight.
You don't have to worry about how to find archived WhatsApp chats. Chat archives can be easily accessed by scrolling to the bottom of the chat list. The Archived Chats (number) option shows the number of chats you have archived so far.
By clicking on this particular option, you will see the contents of the archived chats.

How to archive a chat To archive a chat on Android, press and hold a chat. Then, in the options that appear at the top, click on the "Archive" icon.

There are no specific steps to delete an archived chat on Android. All you need to do is go to the "Archive" section and hold the conversation you want to delete. Then click on the "Delete" icon. You will receive a popup. Select Ok to confirm.
On WhatsApp Web, go to Archive. Click the down arrow next to a chat and click Delete Chat. Confirm in the pop-up menu.
