So if a friend of friend puts up your picture on Instagram, or someone shares a quote you love, what do you do to save it in your phone? Take a screenshot? Well that’s what most of us do. Take a screenshot and crop it, and it’s as good as new. Isn’t it? While that’s certainly an easy way out, quality-wise, screenshots really lose on the image resolution; and deep down we all know it is never as good as being able to actually download an image. Download on smartphone

For iOS users especially, there’s an app called InstaSave, which you can download from the App Store, and login with your credentials. Select the photo you would like to save. Then, tap the arrow download icon on the bottom right and choose “save” from the pop-up menu. Now, just select Copy Share URL to download the photo, and you are done. Download via desktop

There are web services like 4K Stogram, which you can use to download images in your computer. You’d obviously first need the service’s desktop application on your PC, and you’d need to install it. Once that’s done, open the program and insert an Instagram username, hashtag, or even location into the search bar. Click Subscribe. Now, just click on each photo you want to download and it will automatically open the image. This is free for a limited number of profiles, and after a few, it’ll ask you to sign up against a premium.

Alternatively, you can also try DownloadGram, which is another easy way to download images. Just navigate to Instagram on your desktop, and find the picture you want to download, copy it’s URL. Now go to DownloadGram’s website, and input the URL into the box with the auto-generated Instagram link. Now just click the Download button, and then click on the resulting Download Picture button to save your image.

Download like a coder

This is probably the toughest solution of the lot, but we are confident, you can crack this. Basically, another way to download the images is by going to the page source of these pictures on Instagram’s website. So what you need to do is, head to Instagram find the photo you want to download. Here your right-click on the picture and choose View Page Source or equivalent.

Now here’s the tricky part, this may look complex, but it’s pretty simple once you know what to do. Locate the section that has “meta property” information (you can also find it by hitting control/command F, and typing meta property into the search bar). Here, you’ll see a line of code that starts with <meta property=”og:image“. Just copy the link that follows the “content=” after that meta property tag until you see a common photo extension, specifically JPG or PNG. Or you search JPG or PNG in meta property.

Now, paste the link into your browser and hit Enter. You will be taken to a page with just the photo. Now, right-click or Ctrl-click the image, and select Save Image As to save the photo.

Having mentioned a bunch of ways to help you download Insta images, we also want you to first stop and think if you are violating anybody’s privacy. Please respect other users’ photos. You should be aware, along with it being unethical, reposting someone’s images without their consent and permission violates Instagram’s copyrights policy. So use these tricks mindfully!

You’re probably familiar with the fact that Instagram dramatically downsizes images, often stripping away much of their sharpness and detail, when they are uploaded to the site. The conversion helps make the site load faster, but it prevents you from saving the images or seeing the original versions—unless you know a workaround.

For years, if you wanted to download an image off Instagram you needed to go into the page source, hunt down the image URL, and save it. It was a massive pain. Thankfully, now there’s a better way.

There’s a handy little workaround that uses Google Chrome‘s built-in developer tool to uncover the URL for the original, full-sized image.

Finding the original image URL is easy, and all it takes is a few mouse clicks.

1. Find a page with an image that you want to save and download.

4. This will cause the Chrome browser’s developer tools to pop up. It looks complicated, but we’re headed to a very specific spot, so don’t be intimidated.

8. Click the arrow next to “Images” to see a list of all the image files that the page is showing. This list will include the full-sized version of the Instagram photo, which is often much more detailed and of significantly higher quality than the one that appears on the page itself.
