  1. Melde dich bei deinem Facebook-Account an.

How to create an Instagram Business account

2 min

Instagram serves a global community of more than 1 billion people who are active every month. People use Instagram to share moments, find passions, be inspired and take action. Instagram can help businesses of every size find customers and grow. With an Instagram business profile, businesses can promote their products and services to a global audience of people who are most interested in what they do.

Use this training to:

  • Get started with Instagram business tools to reach more people
  • Prepare to create your Instagram business account

Instagram business account features

Instagram business accounts have features and settings that can help your business reach more people, stay connected with them and boost sales.

Note: If you switch to a business account, you will no longer be able to set your account to private. You'll also only be able to share your Instagram posts to the Facebook Page already associated with your Instagram account. However, you can switch back to a personal account at any time.

Let people learn more about your business and contact you easily

When you create a business account, you'll be able to add an address field and contact buttons to your profile. You can include directions, a phone number and an email address, which people on Instagram can use to get in touch with you.

Build and maintain relationships with potential and existing customers

With a business account, you'll have access to a simplified inbox ( Instagram Direct) to manage the messages people send you on Instagram. You can star conversations that you want to come back to, and filter messages from people you want to follow up with. Additionally, you'll be able to create and use templated responses ( quick replies) so you can respond to common questions quickly.

Learn about your followers and the performance of your posts and stories

Get information on who your followers are, when they're online and how they interact with your photos and videos. By understanding when and how people interact with your content, you can increase opportunities for them to see it and take actions. You can also create more of what resonates with them.

Promote your posts

Use the Promote tool to turn your Instagram posts into ads that can help grow your business. When you promote a post, it will appear as a sponsored post in Instagram stories or feed.

Convert your personal Instagram account into a business account

To get started, you'll need to have the Instagram app downloaded on your phone. Visit the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) to download the app.

To create a business account, you'll need to have an existing personal Instagram account. If you do not already have an Instagram account, you can create one here.

To switch your account to a business account:

  1. Go to your profile and tap the menu icon in the top-right corner.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Account.
  4. Tap Switch to business account.
  5. We recommend that you connect your business account to a Facebook Page that is associated with your business. This will make it easier to use all of the features available for businesses. Only one Facebook Page can be connected to your Instagram account.
  6. Add details, such as your business category and contact information.
  7. Tap Done.

Getting started on your Instagram business account

As you set up your free Instagram business account, here are a few things that you can do to make it easier for people to discover your business.

Profile photo

Simplicity works. We recommend using your business's logo or a graphic symbol. Your image will be cropped into a circle and appear as a small 150 x 150 pixel icon.

Account name

Choose an account name, ideally your business name, that's easily tied to your brand. Keep it short. The limit for usernames is 30 characters.

Learn more about account names in our Community Guidelines and Terms of Use.

Bio

Create a short description of your business. You can include relevant hashtags to make your business more discoverable or add emojis to describe it visually.

Website and contact options

Help people get in touch with your business by adding your website, email, phone number and location.

How to link an Instagram business account to a Facebook page and what it will do

Content [show]

If you have a brand page on Facebook and a business profile on Instagram, be sure to link them together. This will not only give you four additional benefits, but also help you avoid trouble.

How to link a Facebook Page and an Instagram business profile

To do this, go to Page Settings, Instagram section and click the Connect account button.

After that, log in through Instagram, enter the login and password of the business profile you want to link.

Done, your account is connected!

Please note that in the same section at the bottom there is an option to disconnect Instagram from the current Page. To do this, simply click the "Disconnect" button.

What benefits will you get?

Linking the resources of one company means getting several significant advantages.

1. All messages and comments from both networks are now available in one window - Inbox

It is very convenient when administrators, editors and moderators can see and reply to all messages and all comments on Facebook and Instagram in the Facebook Pages section.

2. Schedule and post to Instagram from a Facebook Page

By linking these two resources, you can post to Instagram from a Facebook Page and vice versa. It is convenient to do this in the Creator Studio section. And the most important plus: you can schedule posts on Instagram. Up to this point, the issue with auto-posting on Instagram was difficult, you had to use third-party services. Read about Creator Studio in our article.

You can post and schedule feed and IGTV. And Stories are still the old fashioned way, with pens.

3. Create ads on Instagram through Facebook Ads Manager with additional features

You can create ads on Instagram through Facebook Ads Manager without linking your Instagram business profile. You may not even have an Instagram account, this is an optional condition. In this case, ad impressions in Instagram placements will be on behalf of your Facebook Page.

But once you've linked your Facebook Brand Page and Instagram Business Profile, you can:

  • Create custom audiences in Ads Manager based on Instagram Business Profile interactions;
  • Use an Instagram account to serve ads on Instagram. Your profile photo will be clickable when your ad is displayed, and users will be able to go to your Instagram.
  • When creating new ads, you can use images and videos that were posted on the Instagram business profile;
  • You can use business profile Instagram posts when creating ads in Ads Manager;

4. You can synchronize contact information between two accounts

Page administrators and editors can synchronize the phone number, email address, address from the Facebook Page and these changes will be reflected in Instagram.

What do I do if my Instagram business profile is linked to the wrong Facebook Page?

In practice, there is often a situation when you need to link these 2 resources, and the Instagram business profile is already linked to another Page.

This happens when you didn't provide a valid Facebook Page when you migrated your personal Instagram profile to a professional account. Facebook automatically created the Page, the name of the Page in this case repeats the name of the Instagram account. At this point, a Business Manager is also automatically created. This Business Manager will own the automatically generated Facebook Page and your Instagram business profile.

What do I need to do to link my Instagram business profile to the correct Page?

  1. Unlink the Instagram business profile from the automatically created Facebook Page. If that doesn't work, try switching back to your personal profile on Instagram. And repeat the procedure one more time;
  2. Link your Instagram business profile to the correct Facebook Page as mentioned at the beginning of this article.

For the above actions, you will definitely need a login and password from your Instagram account and administrator rights on the Facebook Page.
