How to Hide Your WhatsApp 'Last Seen' Status From Specific Contacts
In a new privacy-centric update released in August 2022, WhatsApp has added the ability for users to adjust the visibility of their "Last Seen" status on a contact-by-contact basis. Keep reading to learn how it's done.
As regular WhatsApp users will know, the "Last Seen" status of a contact you're in conversation with sits atop the conversation thread, informing you when that contact last opened and was active on the app.
Previously, WhatsApp let you disable your Last Seen status so that other contacts couldn't see when you were last online, but the setting's options were limited to "Everyone," "My Contacts," and "Nobody," and there was no way to make exceptions for individual contacts.
The good news however is that WhatsApp is switching things up by adding the option "My Contacts Except..." which lets you select specific contacts so that they don't see when the last time was that you were active on the messaging network.
Here's how to make the change to your privacy settings in the WhatsApp app for mobile.
- In WhatsApp, tap the Settings tab (the cog icon) at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Account -> Privacy.
- Tap Last Seen.
- Select My Contacts Except....
- Choose the people from your contacts list that you want to hide your Last Seen status from.
- When you've finished selecting contacts, tap Done in the top-right corner of the screen.
If you don't see the new option in the Last Seen menu, make sure you've updated WhatsApp to the latest version, then try again.

How to Hide Your 'Last Seen' Status in WhatsApp
For a long time now, WhatsApp has included a feature that shows when a user was last online or last active on the messaging platform, which can be either helpful or a hindrance, depending on your personal or business situation.
As regular WhatsApp users will know, the "Last Seen" status of a contact sits atop the conversation thread, informing you when that contact last opened the app and was active on the platform. But if you don't want people to know when you were last active, WhatsApp includes a setting to hide your Last Seen status or limit its visibility to certain users.
You can set it so that your Last Seen status can be seen by everyone, no-one, or only your contacts. Just bear in mind that if your Last Seen is hidden from another person, you won't be able to see their Last Seen either. Here's how it works.
- Open the WhatsApp app on your iPhone.
- Tap the Settings icon in the bottom-right.
- Tap Account.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Last Seen.
- Tap to select Everyone, My Contacts, or Nobody.
WhatsApp is currently working on giving users the option to adjust the visibility of their Last Seen status on a contact-by-contact basis, according to a September 2021 report, although the option has yet to be rolled out as of writing.
At the end of 2021, WhatsApp also made a privacy change to prevent people on its messaging platform from viewing the Last Seen status of users whom they have never chatted with, however people and businesses a user knows or has previously messaged are not affected by the change.

Whatsapp" can see the time of visiting the service of another contact. This feature is a factory setting. But the developers decided to give their customers some freedom and privacy. Therefore, it is possible to turn off the time of visiting WhatsApp. True, the principle of response works here. OS "Android"
Owners of phones based on the operating system "Android", who want to hide the time of visiting Whatsapp, you need to follow these steps:
- enter the messenger settings;
- then go to the "Account" tabs;
- open the "Privacy" tab.
This will open a window with possible privacy settings. In this list, you must uncheck the item "Visit time". Here, specify who exactly should not see the time spent online. So, the selected item "My contacts" will allow you to hide your visits from everyone, except for contacts from the telephone directory. I can't see the visit time of the interlocutor
There are several reasons why WhatsApp does not show the visit time of other users.
The first thing you can check is your messenger settings. You may have turned off the time display in this account. At the same time, it is not visible whether the interlocutor is online or not. nine0003
The second thing to pay attention to is the private settings of the messenger. The time display function may be disabled.
And the last reason may be hidden in the blocking of the contact. If the visiting time is not visible only for one interlocutor, most likely you have been blacklisted.
These reasons ensure the privacy of using the program. That is why WhatsApp does not show when the user was last online.
Time displayed incorrectly
Sometimes you may notice that the messenger shows the wrong time of visit or messages. The most common reason is that the settings on the phone have gone wrong. More precisely, the time and time zone parameters have gone astray.
Your mobile network operator automatically sets the time and time zone when you connect your smartphone to the Internet. This takes into account the region in which you are located.
You can set the correct time yourself through the settings of your device:
- On devices with the Android operating system, go to "Settings" - "System" - "Time and date".
- On iOS devices, go to Settings - General - Date & Time.
- For Windows Phone, go along the path "Settings" - "Date and time".
The time data may be invalid if the time zone is incorrect. So check if the belt matches your location.
The message delivery time also changes if there is no network connection.
