How to change the WhatsApp icon on an iPhone: the fastest and easiest way to do it
One of the best ways to personalize a mobile is to change the icons of the apps. Either by changing your theme in the case of Android, or by choosing among those offered by the app itself. The latter is also on iOS, though Apple does not allow us to change the icons so easily. And less in the case of WhatsApp, which does not even offer an icon pack.
Nevertheless, yes there is a way to change it in iOS. And, just like Android, it’s not really complicated. In this post we will show you how you can do it in a simple way through the Shortcuts application.
As we already told you, it is the Shortcuts application that you will have to use to change the WhatsApp icon. Although technically you will not be changing the icon of this, but you will create a shortcut with another aesthetic different. Of course, you should know that this functionality is only available on iPhone with iOS 14 and later.
To do this, the first thing you have to have at hand is the icon in the form of an image, either stored in your photo gallery or in the Files application. For find a different icon and to your liking You can use Google image search, but also websites like Flaticon or macOSicons. Of course, you can also create your own icon and save it on mobile.
Having the icon ready, it’s time to create the direct access to WhatsApp, for which we already entered the Shortcuts application. In this case, we divide the steps to follow into two parts. The first thing you should do is create a shortcut that serves only to open WhatsAppfollowing these steps:
- Placing you on the tab My Shortcutsclick on the icon + from the top right.
- In Shortcut Name type “WhatsApp”.
- Click on add action.
- In the search engine, write “Open app” and select the script that precisely says “Open app”.
- At the top, where it says “Open”, click on “App”.
- Find “WhatsApp” and select it.
- Click on the X from the top right to close the shortcut. Don’t worry because it will have been perfectly saved.
What’s up now is create a shortcut to this shortcut and, now yes, customize it with the icon that we have previously downloaded. The steps here are as follows:
- in the tab my shortcutslong press the WhatsApp shortcut that you had previously created.
- Click now on Share.
- Now select the option Add to home screen.
- where does it say Home Screen Name and Icon make sure it says “WhatsApp” and click on the shortcut icon.
- From the options that appear, choose select photo if you have the icon saved in your gallery or Select File if you have it stored in the Files app.
- Select the file that has the icon you downloaded.
- Click on Add at the top right.
You will now be able to exit the Shortcuts app and you will see that the shortcut has been created and appears as another app. As you will see when pressing it, the WhatsApp app opens directly and with the icon you had chosen. However, there is a banner at the top that can be annoying, but you can easily remove it through the Time of Use settings.
As you may have noticed, this is not an intuitive technique. Little by little it seems that Apple is improving the customization of the iPhone with updates such as iOS 16, although it does not make it easier to change icons. In any case, once you have seen this tutorial, you will have verified that it is neither difficult nor takes too much time. In fact you can change other icons following the same steps and, once you have already started with WhatsApp, you will no longer need any guide for the following.

Why do I need shortcuts in iOS
In general, the Commands app was originally designed to create personalized commands for Siri. Thanks to them, you can fit several actions at once into one phrase. For example, at the command "Siri, let's go home", the voice assistant will turn on your favorite playlist and plot the best route, bypassing traffic jams.
In iOS 14, Shortcuts got additional triggers that provoke activation depending on the occurrence of certain events, for example, when the battery reaches a certain level of charge. That is, if the iPhone is discharged below the specified limits, you can set the automatic activation of the power saving mode.

Previously, they were available on a separate screen to the left of the desktop, but now they can be placed interspersed with application icons. Many criticize this move by Apple, meanwhile, the hashtag #ios14homescreen has already gone viral on Twitter, according to which users share their home screen design variations. We tell you, AIN.UA tells you how to change icons on iOS-14.

What happened
Desktop customization has been implemented on Android for a long time, but on iOS it never happened, so many users took the innovation with great enthusiasm. It reached its climax when it became clear that the main screen can be diversified not only with widgets - now on the iPhone you can change the images of application icons.
Users began to actively share their design options. Some look good, others can easily guess the age of the owner and his hobbies, and quite infernal options come across. Sometimes it turns into a separate art form (but mostly, it is still used for self-expression).
How to change icons on iOS - step by step instructions
In fact, you can't really do it. But you can change the name of the icons "through a crutch." To do this, we will use the "Teams" application or Widgetsmith.
We go to the teams.
Press the "+" in the upper right corner. The New Command menu opens.
Click "Add Action" -> "Scripts". A list of command options will open. You need to scroll down to the option "Open application".
By clicking on the "Select" button, a complete list of applications installed by you will open. Select the one you want, then click on the icon with three dots in the upper right corner.
Enter a name for the application (this is optional, you can leave it as it is). Already here, if desired, you can customize the icons in a single color. To do this, click on the icon, select a color and a suitable glyph.
But if this is not enough for you and you want to upload your own image instead of an icon, click on the link “Add to Home Screen”.
Enter the application name here again and click on the icon. In the menu that appears, select the appropriate option, for example, "Select photo", set any photo from the gallery instead of the icon and click "Add".
The command will appear on your desktop.
You need to understand that this is not an application icon - this is an icon of the command to open the application. By clicking on it, you will first see a menu of "quick commands", after which you will be redirected to, in fact, the application itself.
Next is a matter of patience and technique. You will have to do the same for each application whose icon you want to customize.
But that's not all.
What to do with old icons?
Now you have two on the main screen - one for the command, the other for the application.
Old icons can be hidden. To do this, hold the desired icon on the screen and select the menu item "Change Home Screen".
